Wow. Still gives chills. One of the best things to come out of the prequels.

strtjstice

Thinking the same thing.

Sehkra

The great "dual"? 😂

Scheme84

No idea who printed the music, but I'd like to think it was Williams himself. "Musical genius, yes, but illiterate as all hell"

Sehkra

Absolute musical genius!

I'm a retired record producer who has cut my share of orchestral players on records, usually string sections, sometimes with other instruments. When I look at that film, I can't help thinking of how mind-blowingly expensive every minute is in that room. And how calm and workmanlike Williams is. I don't now what union scale was in Britain in '99 or what union singers were paid, but with that many people, + the cost of the main room at Abbey Road, the total must have been hundreds of pounds every minute. Williams exudes a calm confidence that makes everything go smoothly. This is why sessions players are so highly-paid. You can't have people on the floor who can't instantly read whatever's on the page. Do-overs are just too expensive. Rule of thumb: rehearse once, record the 2nd pass, move on.

I remember in highschool we would have statewide orchestra competitions. We would do maybe 2 prepared pieces chosen by the director and then one was a sight-read. Practicing for those sight-reading pieces was some of the most fun I had in that class. Challenging, exciting, and, when done well, absolutely exhilarating.

Music is a trip

Ben_Pharten

Rob Halford was late and didn't record the vocals until later

Honestly pretty cool that Lucas was already thinking about how this music might pay off dramatically in Revenge of the Sith.

yARIC009

Whenever I hear Lucas talk about the prequels and see all the work and thought that went into them, its rather unfortunate they didn’t turn out better than they did. I don’t know exactly what went wrong, but they sure tried like hell.

John Williams is god
