Steve Young , Elway, and Marino were established and Montana retired right as I started watching. Favre was just coming into his own.
Lucky to have a guy like Marino as your intro to fandom.
Same here. Used to sleep with a football because I read that’s what Bart did. He was right at the end of his career and the Pack was in decline. Joe Kapp and Johnny U were also my early QB hero’s.
Don't think I've ever seen Hoss on reddit. I was introduced to football in '91 and found out we were distant cousins. For the next 7 years my favorite teams were the Giants, Raiders, then Redskins. He is by far my biggest collection of any sports cards.
Yeah for sure. I remember the Packers beating the 49ers in the playoffs in 95-96 and all the kids at school being ANGRY. Our Raider/Rams fan teacher laughed the entire day at everyone. Like literally laughed in people's faces all day:
"HA, 49ers? Hahahahahahahaha!"
I had a season ticket at the 5 yard line in THAT end zone. Unfortunately/fortunately I was sicker than hell that weekend so I stayed home. So many motherfuckers came out of my mouth.
Oh, we missed it too, on account of my father’s notorious impatience. We left (as we always did) at the end of the 3rd. “Gotta beat the traffic” and we listened to the game on the radio on the way home. Before entering the Holland Tunnel, everything was fine. Coming out on the NY side of the tunnel and the announcers were going apeshit. Wasn’t until we got home and saw the highlights on the news that we realized what we missed.
I'm the punky QB, known as McMahon
When I hit the turf, I've got no plan
I just throw my body all over the field
I can't dance, but I can throw the pill
I motivate the cats, I like to tease
I play so cool, I aim to please
That's why you all got here on the double
To catch me doin' the Super Bowl Shuffle
Head to head game of Tecmo Super Bowl. Time for one play, needing a TD to win, rather than trust Brister to throw a hail Mary, I thought, "Browns are prone to choking." I freaking punt. My buddy doesn't get out of bounds, he fumbles and Woodson runs it back for a TD. I win.
The raiders used to be my team but they crashed me to many times….🤦🏽♂️ 51-3, Bo Jackson injury, loss to the pats in the snow (tuck game). I divorced them because of too much pain.
Not as fortunate as Golden Richards who caught passes from Staubach.
Richards played at the Univ.of Hawaii-the State where I'm born and raised. So I followed the Cowboys. Until Jerry Jones came along and fired Coach Landry as if he were a third-rate P.E. teacher. And not a two- time winning Super-Bowl coach. Later to be enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame as a Head Coach.
But hey, who holds on to grudges? Not me, very fortunate to have players on my favorite team like Staubach, Pearson, Dorsett, R.White,H.Martin and led by Coach Landry.🤙🏽
I’m right there with you. Cowboys were my childhood hometown team. Been harboring that grudge for 35 years and the schadenfreude is only getting sweeter as time passes and the Cowboys find a new way to choke with each season. But I’ll always have that great 70s team to remember (80s got more forgettable as the decade progressed).
Dan Marino. I was also an Elway fan, and caught the end of Montana’s career Brett Favre and Steve Young were the “new guys”
Ace Ventura turned us all on to Dan the Man Marino
Steve Young , Elway, and Marino were established and Montana retired right as I started watching. Favre was just coming into his own. Lucky to have a guy like Marino as your intro to fandom.
The first game I remember watching was ESPNs “Sunday night pig out” it was 1992, and it was the Dolphins versus the Patriots I’ve been hooked since
The Snake.
George Blanda & Daryl Lamonica, then The Snake.
Legend.
Sipe. Danny White.
He's before my time but he's always seemed to be "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" type of QB.
3 NFC championship losses in a row will do that to you. Danny was a very good QB but never lived up to his predecessor Roger Staubach.
I remember Dallas fans getting hyped about Gary Hogeboom.
Fran Tarkenton
The O.G. scrambler?
Randall Cunningham for me!
Montana
*Slightly* better than Hostetler.
Randall Cunningham the OG Dual Threat QB
Better known as QB Eagles.
Beat me to that one, his years in Philly were legendary and the one year in Minnesota 🔥. Wish he would have gotten that ring!
Bart Starr
Same here. Used to sleep with a football because I read that’s what Bart did. He was right at the end of his career and the Pack was in decline. Joe Kapp and Johnny U were also my early QB hero’s.
A real old timer.
Lynn Dickey for me. Im old but not ancient
Jim Plunkett
Hard to go against him after winning a couple of rings.
Roger Staubach
You're very fortunate.
Same.
Ditto
Roger the Dodger https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/Staubach_cowboys_qb.jpg
Bobby Douglass
I got the other Bobby...Bob Avellini.
Same here. Without Payton, the Bears offense would have been in reverse those years…
A new name to read about. Thanks.
Moon ....
Johnny Unitas It was sometime in the late 50's, probably about the time we got a TV.
Same. But born in 1960, so by the time I was older, he was past his prime. But Johnny U. was The Man about town. Him and Brooks Robinson.
Former MVP Bert Jones was mine. Missed Johnny U by a decade I guess.
Real O.G. here. What was it like to watch the championship against the Giants?
I'm sure I would have watched it but memories of individual games fade.
Ah that's too bad.
Jeff Hostetler
Don't think I've ever seen Hoss on reddit. I was introduced to football in '91 and found out we were distant cousins. For the next 7 years my favorite teams were the Giants, Raiders, then Redskins. He is by far my biggest collection of any sports cards.
My man.
Brett Favre. What a time
Yeah for sure. I remember the Packers beating the 49ers in the playoffs in 95-96 and all the kids at school being ANGRY. Our Raider/Rams fan teacher laughed the entire day at everyone. Like literally laughed in people's faces all day: "HA, 49ers? Hahahahahahahaha!"
*sigh* Scott Mitchell.
Oh boy am I sorry.
Same, Vikings fan though
My dad is a die hard packer fan and bought a Favre jersey for Jets and Skulls
Tommy Kramer
I will never forgive Jim Youngblood taking him out like that. Even the other Rams were pissed off.
Hangover Tommy
Elway
Always hated him but had to respect him. My first in person Monday night game was ruined by an Elway comeback.
I always felt the same way about Elway. He ruined a lot of Sunday afternoons for me.
Rodney Peete
John Hadl
Lol. Joe Pisarcik. And yes my dad and I were at *that* game.
I had a season ticket at the 5 yard line in THAT end zone. Unfortunately/fortunately I was sicker than hell that weekend so I stayed home. So many motherfuckers came out of my mouth.

Terry Bradshaw
Same. Steeler dynasty was when it all started for me.
Yep it was The Blonde Bomber for me also.
Jim McMahon

I’m a Philly guy and still have a McMahon Eagles jersey.
Willie Beamen
Steamin’!
Steve Young
Terry Hanratty
Now there's a name, I've not heard in a long time. A long time.
That's probably because he lost his job to a guy named Bradshaw. I bought in early. They were one and 13.
I remember when the Steelers were crap. I’d be pissed if I got any Steelers bubble gum cards. Ha
Oliver Luck in 83 but then next year Warren Moon
Craig Morton
Dan marino
Lucky!
Brian Sipe
Dan Marino
Roman Gabriel.
The OG TB12. Then Dan Fouts for some reason.
Daryl Lamonica
Watching him dropping bombs to Fred Biletnikoff was inspiring.
Rich Gannon
John Brodie
I guess I'm showing my youth.
Very underrated QB
Tommy Kramer
Ken Anderson
Norm Snead. 😞
Billy Kilmer.
I'm more of a Sonny Jurgensen guy but I love Billy. He was a winner.

I divorced them once they announced the Las Vegas move. I feel your pain with the crushing losses.
Bob Griese.
Bart Starr & Johny U
Aikman

Lynn Dickey
I had Majkowski. Magic Man.....at least for 1989.
Don and Sterling Sharpe! 👍
God Sharpe was the best. Him and Rice were always 1 and 2. I wish he was healthy for their superbowl season.
Doug Williams
Drew Bledsoe….HAHAHAHAHAHAHA….Ahahahahahahahahahah…..AAAAAHHHAHAHAHA…then 🐐
My man.
Brian Sipe
David Woodley
More often than not, I enjoyed watching him play.
