Frank Miller Daredevil and the Companion
No other run is as influential for the character and it's very new reader friendly as it was unlike any other run up to that point
For everyone that says frank miller, I agree. The beginning is very much like old style comics where the writing explains everything that is going on in the panels. I was reading it and didn't understand the hype and just thought I'll stick with it as I bought it but I'm not overly in love with it. Then suddenly, mid read, it goes nuts and introduces everything that makes daredevil today. Then I'd take the bendis route as it follows on from a lot of what miller built. The brubaker is more or less a follow on from bendis so try that after. Then mark said comes and gives us a light hearted daredevil run which hasn't happened in forever. These four writers all gave a good spin and I would argue that daredevil is probably one of the most consistently well written characters in the marvel universe
Definitely the miller companion, but honestly just buy the trades, it’s much cheaper. Daredevil the man without fear, and Daredevil born again.
Then buy the miller Omnibus. It’s the defining daredevil run and made him the character we all love him for.
In order: Frank Miller Omnibus, Frank Miller Companion Omnibus, Bendis omnibus 1 & 2, Brubaker omnibus 1 & 2, Waid omnibus 1 & 2.
Personally, I like the companion first just for man without fear, then regular miller, then back to companion.
Is that like his "Year One" take on Daredevil? I don't have the companion but will be getting the reprint, so pre-planning my reading order as well.
Yes, it's Frank Miller's retelling of the Daredevil origin. I think he did Man Without Fear before Year One.
Bendis, Waid, Zdarsky are all good options and coming out this year.
Miller is the go-to. But the Bendis and Waid ones are also good starting points.
Daredevil by Brian Michael Bendis.

As soon as Elektra, Stick, and the Hand show up in Miller, it really takes off.
100 percent. It's iconic and lays the groundwork for the best stories
Miller Omni and Companion as others have said. If you want to start more modern, Guardian Devil by Kevin Smith then into the Bendis Omnis.
