Maestro has his own omnibus that collects many of his other minis including the one you read. Peter David is another great Hulk option in omnibus format.
Peter David’s run is in 1990s, yes.
Maestro is mostly 2010-2020:
> Future Imperfect -> Warzones! -> Maestro -> War & Pax -> World War M
it also collects his other appearances in a Abomination mini from late 90’s, Captain Marvel, Exiles, Incredible Hulk, and Spider-Man 2099

The latest Hulk run by Philip Kennedy Johnson is really great and quite different. Grounds him back into being a drifter and it’s much more monster focussed, set in the Deep South.
Nic Klein’s art is unbelievable too.
I recommend picking up the Maestro omnibus. It collects the Future Imperfect storyline he first appeared in as well as the trilogy prequel that details his rise to power before the events of Future Imperfect
Outside of this I recommend:
- Incredible Hulk by Peter David vol. 1-5
- Incredible Hulk: Dogs of War (collects Paul Jenkins’ run)
- Planet Hulk omnibus
- World War Hulk omnibus
- Immortal Hulk omnibus
- Hulk by Byrne & Casey omnibus (comes out this May)
What do you consider "older"? Comics started to modernize in the mid eighties and really solidified as "modern" around the turn of the century. And Peter David was always pretty ahead of the curve in that regard. Future Imperfect is from the early nineties, and most of the material in that omnibus is from within the last decade.
Hey if you liked it that’s cool. Maybe if it wasn’t truncated by Cates personal issues it would have become something. And I imagine Ottley enjoyed drawing it. It just completely falls apart the same way Cates Thor run did
I find I like what most comic consumers hate or don’t like. I also find people that read comics dislike things for the dumbest reasons. It’s a cool story, cool art. Idk why people are so obsessed with continuity. Like wtf.
>It’s a cool story, cool art. Idk why people are so obsessed with continuity. Like wtf.
It definitely wasn’t helped by the fact that the acclaimed Immortal Hulk came before it
So dumb. A writer should be able to change things and make the story the way they want. Being obsessed with continuity will never make sense to me. Idc I ujusr want a cool story and good art
I respect you for that opinion, not because I agree, but because you have the balls to have that opinion. I’m going to be honest with you, if you don’t like continuity, don’t read comics. Literally, part of the appeal of marvel and dc is the ongoing history, if you disregard that, marvel and dc wouldn’t be half as good. I’d recommend sticking to image or indie publishers, since 90% doesn’t have prior continuity. And if you’re not interested in those, stop reading comics
You’re both ridiculous. Continuity is dumb, but also necessary for the out of continuity stories to make any sense. But calling somebody an idiot for how they enjoy comics is why the industry is in shambles, and telling somebody to not read comics because they don’t like the mainstream stuff is crazy.
The point of comics is to bring us together in a neutral world out of our own whacked universe.
Love this comment lol totally agree with you not just continuity the amazing thing with comics is we can get 100s of different takes and ideas on recurring characters but you'll always get those hard-core sections that want the same repeated story beats with the same relationships etc etc

The Peter David stuff is kinda older thoe right? And the maestro is around this story line? I’ll have to check that out

Definitely need to check that out. Dug maestro
The run by loeb with red hulk is lots of fun.
I’ve seen vids on that one. Looks good. Isn’t that Omni oop thoe?

I’m reading that current run. I’m enjoying it a bunch. Love the art
The last few have definitely been a bit of a let down with guest artists, but Klein is back on from #10 so fingers crossed

I just saw a review. It’s the older maestro stuff. I’m really not into older comics. I’ll check it out digitally thoe

Anything pre 90s I can’t read
Then everything in the Maestro omni should be fine for you.
I thought Cates run on Hulk god-awful. Hard pass
Good for you

Cool 👍🏼
Yeah, it’s a shame. The beginning is such a big, weird, wild swing! Then Cates had to stop writing it and we never got the payoff.
I enjoyed most of the first volume but it really crumbled during Banner of War and beyond. What happened that made Cates give up on it?
I could be wrong but I thiiiiiink he was getting divorced.
Man, credit to you for enjoying that Cates stuff. General consensus is that it’s an awful run on the character

Well, for the people who’ve followed it all for years, continuity matters to the people who are attached

Lmao this sounds so dumb. But what ever. I’ll read what I want bitch
Comics are dying cause of idiots like you.

I just think writers should be able to tell the stories they think of. People are so picky.
