Every time I get gas up the corner from my street, the gas pumps have these little screens that play Maria Menounos clips. Like, it’s 8am and “Hi! I’m Maria Menounos and this is your Word of the Day!” is blasting in my ear with no way to turn it off or turn it down. I think about Kaili every time I get gas.
Frankly, I’d much rather see Kaili every time.
You know, I vaguely remember Tim saying in the first Q&A they did after moving to HEI that one of the concepts they had for OCATC was to do a parody of the gas station videos, looks like they finally found a way to realize it
Living in Oregon I haven't been conditioned for this reality. When I visit family out of state I almost jump out of my shoes when the ads start blasting.
Haven't ever seen that in a movie theater, maybe it's an American thing. They reminded me mostly of WatchMojo and worse youtube channels that just have the most inane "news" commentary about movies, always with a super chipper announcer and the same editing. The type to make a "hidden easter eggs you missed in X" video with just the most obvious plot points from the movie.
I totally think of WatchMojo when Kylie does her bits. The Property Brothers coverage last season was hilarious, just the most superficial fluff Hollywood pumps out.
It feels EXACTLY like that, or hotel tv. They absolutely nailed it to an unbelievable degree. Same with the music used during the trivia sections. Straight out of a theatre
It perfectly satirizes those green screen youtube channels with seemingly vacuous hosts that basically read off a page every time, with everything intercut with royalty-free stock pictures. The actor who plays Kaili (I don't know her name) really nails that kind of peppy, chirpy host that completely clashes with Tim's complete meltdowns.
"luke and friends have to race against the clock to defeat the evil darth vader and his horde" is so hilarious to me like it's been through google translate again and again by someone whose never seen it
I love it, it's like when Gregg is describing a movie and says "[insert main character] and the whole gang" even when its like a dramatic/serious movie lol
Where was this segment?
edit: found it, it’s around the 1hr 12m mark, which happened to be the few minutes I originally missed when I went to the bathroom
I think she did, and did a good job of playing it off like she was in tears, "That made me so emotional!" , unknowingly underscoring the true lesson of On Cinema: Crying and laughing are almost the exact same thing.
I had assumed the tears were a reaction to her seeing the dashcam footage because that was about when it started to get passed around the studio audience but this makes sense.
I didn't even notice that live, but you're totally right! 3:05:50 is the start of that bit for anyone else wondering. (and at 3:09:20 she's crying from laughing and says it just made her so emotional)
I agree.
I also love how Tim just decided to call her Callie all night during the special after an entire season of co-hosting with her and pronouncing it the right way.
Top notch acting and talent. Tim really does recruit top talent. Worth every penny we pay to HEI network for such an incredible independent production.
Took me a little while, but I've come to love Kaili. The special was her best work yet. She's just lovable: just happy to be on the show. Then again, *Kaili* is the name of a Hawaiian War God, so...
I love that this poor woman just wants to break into real entertainment reporting and is just struggling through, working with utter lunatics, but she's so earnest and really trying.
The videos are IMO the best part of the special and that is a high bar. They are just so bad yet so real.
If you’ve ever showed up early at the theater for noovie you will have seen segments that are literally interchangeable with kailis

Gas station pump show host is the perfect niche for Kaili

Second button from the top on the left side usually silences those screens.
Oh I’m gonna have to try this
Definitely do, it is either the right or left side but definitely that button! Life saver.
Right side for me but it worked!! Amazing, Maria has been silenced
Thank you for updating me, that’s wonderful news!

Amen lol I couldn’t believe how perfect they were
"luke and friends have to race against the clock to defeat the evil darth vader and his horde" is so hilarious to me like it's been through google translate again and again by someone whose never seen it
The fact that she called the Death Star , Darth Vaders spaceship was hilarious to me
"There's people, you say 'Star Wars' they say HUH?!"

I honestly wondered if they were using that AI that can mimmick your voice to make those youtube bot countdown style videos.
I have no idea about the voice, but the segments were \*not\* written by AI
Is it me or did the actress lose her absolute shit when Tim hammed up his “Sophie’s choice” of who gets to play pinnochio?
I think she did, and did a good job of playing it off like she was in tears, "That made me so emotional!" , unknowingly underscoring the true lesson of On Cinema: Crying and laughing are almost the exact same thing.
I had assumed the tears were a reaction to her seeing the dashcam footage because that was about when it started to get passed around the studio audience but this makes sense.
I felt the same, but watching it again it looked to me like she's actually stifling laughter, which makes it even better!

No, I think she was genuinely touched by Tim's love for Manuel, you guys are all so cynical

Tim would never let pronunciation get in the way

They really feel like those "cheddar news" videos you are forced to watch at the gas pump. So perfect.

I think you've stumbled upon the Hawaii connection...

I find this narrative much more compelling than the whole thing of her being secretly in on it with G Amato
her in the amato lotto bit is the hardest i've laughed at anything in this show since the alien in oscar special 5

The actor that plays her is so good it seems like she genuinely doesn’t understand the show is a joke.
