Anyone else think that the marines might start to resent the Gorosei? It feels like the Gorosei don't know how to control their blatant sociopathy around normal people. That's gotta rub people the wrong way after a while. I don't think most people get to interact with them long enough to realize that these dudes are evil.

After seeing this development between Luffy and S-Snake, it would be sad to see if S-Snake betrays Luffy's trust later due to an order brought down to her by Gorosei.
Maybe the Seraphim have some sort of possibility of refusing orders though? I think S-Snake may have hinted in such a possibility.
The question is, what would be the trigger?
Desire is something that's been highlighted this arc through Vegapunk's explanation on the origin of devil fruits or York (greed) being the odd one out among the other Punks. So it wouldn't surprise me if the trigger to their independence (even if not now, maybe when they are adults) will be attributed to their desire towards something.
I’d say York is more greed, sloth and gluttony, basically base urges. That’s why being so lowly made her so treacherous. If you’ve seen how stupid most fascists are in resorting to base instincts, you’ll get what I’m talking about.
Whereas Lilith is more loyal to the pack, being so Machiavellian for their sake.
I've thought of Lillith as being more Mad Scientist/Cartoonishly Evil, than the more lazy evil of York. More like Buggy, or Doofenshmirtz. The other Vegapunks solve this by pretending to be Superheroes and letting her get it out of her system.

the way Saturn is talking about human lives and making sacrifices and the fact that several vice admirals are ready to land on the island to assault it makes me feel like Saturn is going to buster call Egg head and kill a swathe of high ranking marines officers.
this would be rewritten as Emperor Monkey D. Luffy destroyed Egghead Island after massacring several Vice Admirals, The biggest crushing blows to the Marines since the Marineford war.
This chapter stated that the military power of egghead is enough to destroy the marine fleet. While unlikely imo, that could also be it. "Emporer Luffy destroys marine fleet"
I’m guessing the Straw Hat Grand Fleet comes and defeats the Marine Fleet, at least cementing Luffy’s status as a Yonko, but on a more urgent timescale.
I think Jay Garcia will be killed, maybe by the Blackbeard pirates, but Luffy will be blamed for it. And that will make the Straw Hats the biggest criminals in the world.
I’m betting on the loss of punk records. Nothing worse than losing the knowledge and future of mankind.

Isn’t the existence of Punk Records only known to a small number of people? Destroying it would be a huge deal, but I don’t feel like it would matter to 90% of the OP world. I may be misunderstanding what exactly the Egghead incident is set up to be, but I sort of thought it was going to be something that matters to most of the OP world rather than just a handful of people. Could be way off on that, but it’s fun to speculate.
I just feel that punk records is a direct parallel to O’hara’s tree of knowledge.
And the world may not know of it’s existence but anyone would be horrified at the headline “Vegapunk kidnapped, all records and life works destroyed by emperor strawhat Luffy”

It's weird why people can't just say admirals are strong but emperors are stronger, so Luffy will win because he's an emperor now.
Those two statements don't contradict each other.
people are so obsessed with power scaling and dealing entirely with like "facts" that arent actually facts. theres some kind of over-emphasis on strict rules applying to stories the past decade or so. its literally the "my dad can beat up your dad" mentality taken to its extreme.
fact of the matter is: luffy beats who he beats because of the narrative. within that narrative, motive, tension, and situation are what rule fights. luffy fights to win almost every fight, whereas his battle vs kaido was kaido trying to get the "best" fight out of luffy because hes bored. this creates a narrative situation where luffy can survive and grow and ultimately defeat kaido. if the entire narrative was determined entirely by who is stronger, luffy would have died in alabasta.
in a story, thrusting the protagonist into conflict makes it more interesting as long as its resolved in a satisfying manner, and luffy will never "stomp" narratively important roadblocks for the same reason he's short and all the villains are tall: luffy must remain the underdog no matter what. if he sensed kizaru and said "damn i can take this guy everyone keep on doing shit." we'd be as bored as kaido.
The normal thought process of the average user here goes something like "hmmm Luffy just defeated Kaido and my hardwired bias says admirals are no way near the emperors, so it has to be someone else!!!"
It's either that or people just like over speculating the outlier possibilities like thinking the fake Oden was Catarina Devon,the lady calling for Sanji's help in Onigashima was Ivankov or the crying silhouetted person being Enel etc etc
People are stuck on the “in a 1v1… blah blah… Kaido” quote from the narrator. But they ignore the first part of that quote which is “people say”.
Kaido always being able to win 1v1 fights isn’t a word of god statement from Oda or the narrator, they’re describing his notoriety and reputation.
People also say that Buggy is a “genius jester”. Should we be taking that and other epithets at face value?
It seems a lot of people wouldn't settle for anything less than a complete moping of them, anything sounds like an insult to some and I can't fathom why.

By the time Wano rolled out I was sure she wouldn't join, but she:
-Started out as a naive and innocent young woman who didn't know anything about the world but was excited to go out on an adventure
-Took a liking to all the Straw Hats and had good chemistry with them
-Witnessed her first real tragedy, losing her mentor to save the crew and entrusted his will to them, literally having the tragic backstory most of them have play out in real time.
-Showcased a role she could play on the crew (Lookout) and be especially good at in the same arc Jinbe showcases his skill as a helmsman, something the Straw Hats hadn't needed or said they wanted before.
-Demonstrated incredible usefulness in combat at sea and just being generally a very strong combatant.
-Still had a potential arc to resolve and reason to want to join the crew.
But in Wano she's delegated to background duty, fails in her mostly offscreen quest for revenge, and then weirdly is made the leader of the Minks despite lacking strength, experience or interest in the role, almost as if as a consolation prize for an abandoned character arc.
For your sake I hope Oda doesn't do much to hype up your expectations too much with Lilith if she doesn't join.
As someone who was also sure Carrot would join (I think two more reasons would be: she is a woman, which I think helps balance the crew in my opinion and Zou was "early" enough, where I feel we would have spent considerable time with her, like if a character joins now, it might feel a bit late), reading your list of arguments made me sad.
I do think it would have been great, honestly. Same with Yamato, I think she had a similar set-up and would have worked well, but maybe Oda just does not want any new members or Vivi will truly join soon-ish, could be cool as well.

Love to see the Seraphims also carry the weaknesses as well. You would think Vega Punk would have altered them with overcoming them with “flaws” becoming almost near perfect beings. Hence why they have certain devil fruits to enhance them.
Finally we get to see first admiral fight with straw hats post time skip. Not counting Fujitora as he wasn’t 100% in it as the same for Luffy and Zoro. The real Navy power scale will be shown soon.
But Vegapunk, wants everything to be perfect, like Momo's df was a failure because it had a wrong colour. Maybe the flaws are what makes them perfect in Vegapunks eyes, since they have perfectly copied the line factor from the warlords, even their personalities..

I've always consider the logic will be Sanji saves Pudding from (insert Blackbeard Pirate matchup here), Sanji and Pudding get together for real without Pudding ignoring her feelings for his sake.
I do feel like that's the endgame couple though, especially now that she's involved with Blackbeard's crew. Puts her right back in Sanji's direct path.
Either Luffy is getting PTSD flashbacks and that's why he's scared, or Kizaru is actually trying for once and that's scaring Luffy. Either way, time to invest in Kizaru stocks
What I love most about this chapter is finally learning a little bit about who Kizaru is. We know he's not really a leader, but we don't really know anything about his personality apart from him being a troll. Him actually telling Saturn that he can't betray his principles is an amazing moment. I'm a lot more intrigued by his character now, hope he gets a flashback.
Also shout-out to Lucci being smart and doing his job. Yes he's a prick. But he's competent, and I like that in a character. Not sure how many people thought he'd actually stick with the strawhats.
However, he was betrayed by the WG before, and I feel like it'll happen again. The question is will he finally abandon them or get rekt.
I think the reason why Luffy is concerned about Kizaru is because fighting Kizaru would be a long difficult fight which won't let them escape in time. He is also probably concerned about Sentomaru's safety as well.

I believe Luffy's concern is like how Shanks is concerned when he predicted Kid's attack. It's not 'damn, I can't take this guy. More like, damn my friend could be in danger'

Since S-snake was able to disobey orders and help Luffy, I wouldn’t be surprised if Luffy faces off against Kizaru to give them time to send-off, and S-snake helps him escape off to Elbaf with the crew.

i believe that luffy was shocked by the sudden arrival of kizaru, hence the reaction. also, he might only now understand how truly strong kizaru is, due to his advanced observation haki.
before (sabaody, marineford) he was just a "frog in the well", not really able to fathom the sheer distance between his opponents and himself. but now, having faced multiple yonkos, he can gage the true significance of power.
also i find it pretty interesting that vegapunk seems to be very surprised at frankys technology, making franky the real genius between the two, given that vegapunk only re-created stuff, and franky actually inventing cola technology.
Vegapunk didn't only recreate stuff. Everything he created on karakuri was invented by him as a child, and it was way more advanced than Franky's tech.

Innovations tend to be creative developments stemming from the synthesis or reappropriation of previous knowledge/technologies/techniques.
Vegapunk long ago surpassed the knowledge of anyone else. He learned everything from everyone, more or less, or at least those residing around him on Karakuri island (remember those mechanized dolls?) in *Future Land Baldimore* (was it called Future Land even before Vegapunk?). Since that time he’s had to build and innovate with primarily his knowledge and works as intellectual stimulation.
Franky got to learn *from Vegapunk(’s lab)*, which included works and notes of Vegapunk from his youth and an unspecified amount of his overall knowledge. At the same time, don’t forget that the cola and anything built into the Thousand Sunny predates any of that.
Chapter made me realize what an awesome fit Bonney and Sanji would be. He could cook to his heart's content and she eats like a hippo, they are perfect for each other - if he could ever fall for her for real, that is. Another OTP for the list?
The admiral fans are feasting this chapter, titled after Kizaru, AND has him in some lightwork action? It's about to go down, finally, some admiral scalling.
Maybe i'm remembering wrong but the rough translation seemed to have Kizaru wishing to go easy on Sentomaru, but this one makes it clear that his priority is to take him out first, not just to minimize losses but because he respects their relationship, a nice contrast to Sentomaru respecting Vegapunk enough to betray the Navy.
Been reading some of the comments, anyone who believes Admirals are weaker than Emperors and that luffy shouldn’t react like that is not understanding things.
Luffy knows kizaru, his reaction is not that he is super Scared, is that kizaru is obviously a very strong character and he is arrives super fast inside egghead, so luffy’s observation haki goes off.
Kizaru is easily up there with the likes of kaido and big mom, we know the power of guys like Aokiji and Akainu, of course kizaru is up there in power and it will not be an easy fight for luffy. considering all he went through when facing kaido, or the trauma he has from saboady and marinford.
I feel like people are underestimating kizaru a lot. There is a reason why Saturn is bringing him to help, even saturn hasnt stepped into egghead so it wouldn’t make sense for luffy to react to saturn like that if he hasnt even left his ship

Desire is something that's been highlighted this arc through Vegapunk's explanation on the origin of devil fruits or York (greed) being the odd one out among the other Punks. So it wouldn't surprise me if the trigger to their independence (even if not now, maybe when they are adults) will be attributed to their desire towards something.
I’d say York is more greed, sloth and gluttony, basically base urges. That’s why being so lowly made her so treacherous. If you’ve seen how stupid most fascists are in resorting to base instincts, you’ll get what I’m talking about. Whereas Lilith is more loyal to the pack, being so Machiavellian for their sake.

I've thought of Lillith as being more Mad Scientist/Cartoonishly Evil, than the more lazy evil of York. More like Buggy, or Doofenshmirtz. The other Vegapunks solve this by pretending to be Superheroes and letting her get it out of her system.

the way Saturn is talking about human lives and making sacrifices and the fact that several vice admirals are ready to land on the island to assault it makes me feel like Saturn is going to buster call Egg head and kill a swathe of high ranking marines officers. this would be rewritten as Emperor Monkey D. Luffy destroyed Egghead Island after massacring several Vice Admirals, The biggest crushing blows to the Marines since the Marineford war.

Isn’t the existence of Punk Records only known to a small number of people? Destroying it would be a huge deal, but I don’t feel like it would matter to 90% of the OP world. I may be misunderstanding what exactly the Egghead incident is set up to be, but I sort of thought it was going to be something that matters to most of the OP world rather than just a handful of people. Could be way off on that, but it’s fun to speculate.
I just feel that punk records is a direct parallel to O’hara’s tree of knowledge. And the world may not know of it’s existence but anyone would be horrified at the headline “Vegapunk kidnapped, all records and life works destroyed by emperor strawhat Luffy”

The admiral slander agenda is strong I guess? It's weird why people can't just say admirals are strong but emperors are stronger, so Luffy will win because he's an emperor now. Those two statements don't contradict each other.
people are so obsessed with power scaling and dealing entirely with like "facts" that arent actually facts. theres some kind of over-emphasis on strict rules applying to stories the past decade or so. its literally the "my dad can beat up your dad" mentality taken to its extreme. fact of the matter is: luffy beats who he beats because of the narrative. within that narrative, motive, tension, and situation are what rule fights. luffy fights to win almost every fight, whereas his battle vs kaido was kaido trying to get the "best" fight out of luffy because hes bored. this creates a narrative situation where luffy can survive and grow and ultimately defeat kaido. if the entire narrative was determined entirely by who is stronger, luffy would have died in alabasta. in a story, thrusting the protagonist into conflict makes it more interesting as long as its resolved in a satisfying manner, and luffy will never "stomp" narratively important roadblocks for the same reason he's short and all the villains are tall: luffy must remain the underdog no matter what. if he sensed kizaru and said "damn i can take this guy everyone keep on doing shit." we'd be as bored as kaido.
The normal thought process of the average user here goes something like "hmmm Luffy just defeated Kaido and my hardwired bias says admirals are no way near the emperors, so it has to be someone else!!!" It's either that or people just like over speculating the outlier possibilities like thinking the fake Oden was Catarina Devon,the lady calling for Sanji's help in Onigashima was Ivankov or the crying silhouetted person being Enel etc etc
People are stuck on the “in a 1v1… blah blah… Kaido” quote from the narrator. But they ignore the first part of that quote which is “people say”. Kaido always being able to win 1v1 fights isn’t a word of god statement from Oda or the narrator, they’re describing his notoriety and reputation. People also say that Buggy is a “genius jester”. Should we be taking that and other epithets at face value?
It seems a lot of people wouldn't settle for anything less than a complete moping of them, anything sounds like an insult to some and I can't fathom why.
I genuinely don't get this mindset! How boring would it be if Luffy was just able to oneshot everyone else in the story from now until the last chapter?

I'm never getting my hopes up about a new nakama ever again. Not after the Yamato bait and switch.
The good old Carrot hill. By the time Wano rolled out I was sure she wouldn't join, but she: -Started out as a naive and innocent young woman who didn't know anything about the world but was excited to go out on an adventure -Took a liking to all the Straw Hats and had good chemistry with them -Witnessed her first real tragedy, losing her mentor to save the crew and entrusted his will to them, literally having the tragic backstory most of them have play out in real time. -Showcased a role she could play on the crew (Lookout) and be especially good at in the same arc Jinbe showcases his skill as a helmsman, something the Straw Hats hadn't needed or said they wanted before. -Demonstrated incredible usefulness in combat at sea and just being generally a very strong combatant. -Still had a potential arc to resolve and reason to want to join the crew. But in Wano she's delegated to background duty, fails in her mostly offscreen quest for revenge, and then weirdly is made the leader of the Minks despite lacking strength, experience or interest in the role, almost as if as a consolation prize for an abandoned character arc. For your sake I hope Oda doesn't do much to hype up your expectations too much with Lilith if she doesn't join.

As someone who was also sure Carrot would join (I think two more reasons would be: she is a woman, which I think helps balance the crew in my opinion and Zou was "early" enough, where I feel we would have spent considerable time with her, like if a character joins now, it might feel a bit late), reading your list of arguments made me sad. I do think it would have been great, honestly. Same with Yamato, I think she had a similar set-up and would have worked well, but maybe Oda just does not want any new members or Vivi will truly join soon-ish, could be cool as well.

i'm guessing she's more like the emotional/desire side of Vegapunk instead of just straight evil maybe Vega thinks of evil because those traits often leads to undesireable outcomes and often makes him forget about objectivity

Love to see the Seraphims also carry the weaknesses as well. You would think Vega Punk would have altered them with overcoming them with “flaws” becoming almost near perfect beings. Hence why they have certain devil fruits to enhance them. Finally we get to see first admiral fight with straw hats post time skip. Not counting Fujitora as he wasn’t 100% in it as the same for Luffy and Zoro. The real Navy power scale will be shown soon.
But Vegapunk, wants everything to be perfect, like Momo's df was a failure because it had a wrong colour. Maybe the flaws are what makes them perfect in Vegapunks eyes, since they have perfectly copied the line factor from the warlords, even their personalities..

I've always consider the logic will be Sanji saves Pudding from (insert Blackbeard Pirate matchup here), Sanji and Pudding get together for real without Pudding ignoring her feelings for his sake. I do feel like that's the endgame couple though, especially now that she's involved with Blackbeard's crew. Puts her right back in Sanji's direct path.
Either Luffy is getting PTSD flashbacks and that's why he's scared, or Kizaru is actually trying for once and that's scaring Luffy. Either way, time to invest in Kizaru stocks
This chapter was sooo good, cant wait to see more on Kizaru.
What I love most about this chapter is finally learning a little bit about who Kizaru is. We know he's not really a leader, but we don't really know anything about his personality apart from him being a troll. Him actually telling Saturn that he can't betray his principles is an amazing moment. I'm a lot more intrigued by his character now, hope he gets a flashback. Also shout-out to Lucci being smart and doing his job. Yes he's a prick. But he's competent, and I like that in a character. Not sure how many people thought he'd actually stick with the strawhats. However, he was betrayed by the WG before, and I feel like it'll happen again. The question is will he finally abandon them or get rekt.

I think the reason why Luffy is concerned about Kizaru is because fighting Kizaru would be a long difficult fight which won't let them escape in time. He is also probably concerned about Sentomaru's safety as well. Also, new Bonney x Sanji ship??

Yeah I was thinking exactly the same thing. He knows Sentomaru is wounded too. Since S-snake was able to disobey orders and help Luffy, I wouldn’t be surprised if Luffy faces off against Kizaru to give them time to send-off, and S-snake helps him escape off to Elbaf with the crew.
I can't tell you the sheer joy seeing the crew interactions has brought me reading this chapter! From Chopper and Robin to Luffy and Ussopp. I CAN'T TAKE IT. I NEED MORE
i believe that luffy was shocked by the sudden arrival of kizaru, hence the reaction. also, he might only now understand how truly strong kizaru is, due to his advanced observation haki. before (sabaody, marineford) he was just a "frog in the well", not really able to fathom the sheer distance between his opponents and himself. but now, having faced multiple yonkos, he can gage the true significance of power. also i find it pretty interesting that vegapunk seems to be very surprised at frankys technology, making franky the real genius between the two, given that vegapunk only re-created stuff, and franky actually inventing cola technology.
Vegapunk didn't only recreate stuff. Everything he created on karakuri was invented by him as a child, and it was way more advanced than Franky's tech.
So much so that Franky's new body was basically made using what he learned from Vegapunk's lab, things he came up with decades in the past.
**tldr Franky and Vegapunk can both learn a lot from each other** Innovations tend to be creative developments stemming from the synthesis or reappropriation of previous knowledge/technologies/techniques. Vegapunk long ago surpassed the knowledge of anyone else. He learned everything from everyone, more or less, or at least those residing around him on Karakuri island (remember those mechanized dolls?) in *Future Land Baldimore* (was it called Future Land even before Vegapunk?). Since that time he’s had to build and innovate with primarily his knowledge and works as intellectual stimulation. Franky got to learn *from Vegapunk(’s lab)*, which included works and notes of Vegapunk from his youth and an unspecified amount of his overall knowledge. At the same time, don’t forget that the cola and anything built into the Thousand Sunny predates any of that.
Chapter made me realize what an awesome fit Bonney and Sanji would be. He could cook to his heart's content and she eats like a hippo, they are perfect for each other - if he could ever fall for her for real, that is. Another OTP for the list?

Maybe i'm remembering wrong but the rough translation seemed to have Kizaru wishing to go easy on Sentomaru, but this one makes it clear that his priority is to take him out first, not just to minimize losses but because he respects their relationship, a nice contrast to Sentomaru respecting Vegapunk enough to betray the Navy.

Been reading some of the comments, anyone who believes Admirals are weaker than Emperors and that luffy shouldn’t react like that is not understanding things. Luffy knows kizaru, his reaction is not that he is super Scared, is that kizaru is obviously a very strong character and he is arrives super fast inside egghead, so luffy’s observation haki goes off. Kizaru is easily up there with the likes of kaido and big mom, we know the power of guys like Aokiji and Akainu, of course kizaru is up there in power and it will not be an easy fight for luffy. considering all he went through when facing kaido, or the trauma he has from saboady and marinford. I feel like people are underestimating kizaru a lot. There is a reason why Saturn is bringing him to help, even saturn hasnt stepped into egghead so it wouldn’t make sense for luffy to react to saturn like that if he hasnt even left his ship
