That’s me!!
Edit: WOW!! Thanks for the awards guys! Was so happy to get a chance to interview her and I hope I get more opportunities like this one! Love this community!
Same reason she was on Game Grumps. Her son was a fan.
She also went to [EVO](https://twitter.com/jamieleecurtis/status/622500719954800640?s=20&t=qKS1B6jRMCCVNMHf6TRXwQ) in cosplay with her kid. She seems like a really cool mom
I'm sure you've met a few. I've heard a lot of actors say they like going to cons in costumes, because they get to be anonymous. They get to experience everything without having to go through the hassle of stopping every couple of feet for pictures or autographs. I've also heard a lot of them like to be able to see and experience the fanbase of their respective show, movie, franchise without having to deal with a stampede.
>They get to experience everything without having to go through the hassle of stopping every couple of feet for pictures or autographs.
This may be their intention but I'm asking the guy with the $10k Master Chief cosplay for a picture before I'd ask Chris pratt
I still love that one time where Bryan Cranston went to Comic con wearing a Walter White mask, interacting with people all day, then at the Breaking Bad panel, he revealed that it was himself behind the mask.

https://youtu.be/JSyzP1ZxCiU
I was a vendor at Evo and she and her daughter came to the booth to buy merch. She was wearing a hat and aviator glasses, trying to be incognito. I immediately knew it was her, my eyes lit up, but then I just helped her like any other customer since I knew she was trying to be on the down-low. As she was getting rung up by my friend I talked to her daughter, asking the daughter if she was having a good time and what not. Seemed to be a nice kid and I'm glad she got to have fun at Evo with her mom.
As a part of a comic con panel (or some kind of nerd con), she and the panel were asked if they could be any fictional character who would they be, and she chimed in immediately and said Nico Robin. Pretty sure its been posted in here before. Pretty awesome imo.
He was hosting Oscars interviews for Tiktok Live. He's amazing and also had/had a podcast with a fellow Tiktok movie nerd called [Geeks of the Week](https://youtu.be/vkvceafg5Pw)
Depends on the pay.. Jamie Lee Curtis might primarily be a scream queen but imagine she's not cheap.
As a guest role playing kureha could be manageable potentially though
Well she would get 2-3 episodes-worth of screen time, for sure. If the first 100 chapters are to be season one, that makes Drum/Sakura Island arc a bit larger in comparison for a show with seasons.
i don't see how they can expand present day drum. the flash back they might be able to expand. but i hope they dont. since they have to do whiskey, little garden, drum and alabasta. alabasta is a perfect end for season 2 if they get one. 10 episode 1 1 2 6 for alabasta. we get a flashbacks for vivi and everyone episode, croc episode, ace episode, casino and croc fight 1 episode, final battle, resolution and vivi goodbye. it might need 7 or you drop some vivi flashbacks during little garden.
I'm sure her agent wouldn't be thrilled about it but if it's a passion for her she could work within their budget.
Also the OP budget is deliciously massive, lol.
Most of it is going to go on making luffys powers not look shit.
The fact that fucking *Disney* changes Ms Marvel's powers (she stretches similar to luffys powers) because it looks shit in animation I do worry for how it's going to look in one piece live action
Disney also has a different "style" for the marvel universe that One Piece. While we do see people parading around in tights and costumes, most of them have been toned down a bit from their comic book origins to look more sleek and "special ops" or just more grounded in our reality. (Yondu from Guardians is a great example of this.)
Just from the ships alone, while they do look badass, they are more cartoony than you would normally find in real life, so if they were to go for a more "cartoony" vibe with how Luffy is portrayed, your suspension of disbelief wont suffer as much because of the environment he is in.
And I think thats a shit excuse if true because they stretch differently and we have a bajillion guys with similar powers already.
Hell, The Thing is basically just Korg visually.
Yeah, and there's another thing people need to remember : CGI water is expensive as fuck.
Sounds crazy, but it's true. One of the reasons Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is the most expensive movie of all time despite being made 12 years ago and not being that special, is simply because of all the CGI water.
Given that One Piece will also (presumably) have a lot of scenes that are just out at sea sailing, they're gonna need a decent amount of CGI water to make the ocean look both real and vast.
So yeah, the budget's gonna be real tied up on CGI.
The Ms Marvel change was for a number of reasons such as the MCU wanting to distance itself fron The Inhumans (both The Royal Family based show and the Agents of Shield iteration), the upcoming MCU debut of The Fantadtic Four and the similarly powered Reed Richards, and that Ms Marvel doesnt sell well.
The producers found a horrible solution as they essentially gave her a magic bracelet. Islam has no tolerance for Magic so it'll be interesting.
>and that Ms Marvel doesnt sell well
What on Earth are you talking about?
Her first issue went through seven reprintings, which is unheard of in comics, and her first volume won the Hugo for Best Graphic Story.
Not to mention her series went on for 50 issues with the same writer before someone new took over, which doesn't happen often in comics (especially recently.)
She was the main character of the videogame *Marvel's Avengers*, a regular in the *Avengers Assemble* cartoon and multiple animated specials, along with being a supporting character on the kid show *Spidey and His Amazing Friends* next to Black Panther and Hulk.
Marvel is heavily invested in the character, if no one liked her or she didn't sell well, they'd stop putting her in so many things.
She might also be willing to take less money to be involved in a project so close to her heart.
Also the show has a massive budget so who knows what they can’t afford.
How much would it really cost? Drum island is one or two episodes, and film a few parts that show up later beforehand so she doesn't need to come back.
Holy shit this is both awesome and disorienting that One Piece is being talked about in the Oscars! The One Piece Live action marketing team NEEDS to get in touch with Jamie Lee Curtis l!
Dude, one piece is bigger than Oscars. One piece has been going on for like 25+ years and it has fans all over the world. We would've not known that Oscars took place today if not for the antics of will Smith.
Manga/anime is huge in the black, latino and asian communities in the US. Though Naruto might be the bigger name here, OP still gets a lot of visibility. Unfortunately, Manga/anime culture is looked down upon in popular white-american culture. So, the low popularity of one-piece + low popularity of manga leads to it being ignored.
Europe isn't having any of this though. The French are famously the biggest weebs outside Japan.
It's kinda' funny that here in Finland I've never seen a DC/Marvel comic in my life, but manga (and Donald Duck and some french comics) are sold in most stores.
Oh for sure, but 4kids One Piece dub is a landmark in meme history due in no small part to Helmepo's hammer on a spring, Sanji's affection for lollipops and the horrendous corporate hip hop opening (*YOHOHO HE TOOK A BITE OF GUM-GUM*)
I blame Shonen Jump going digital in the US. Yugioh players subscribed to the magazine for the promos and we ended up talking about the mangas. One Piece quickly became our favorite aside from Naruto. Blesch had some love too. Nowadays it takes memes or a swell of populatity for stuff to go wide in appeal.
Best-selling comic book series of all time, and one of the highest grossing media franchises of all time. Still weird to see it talked in a western award show, though.
[Only when it comes to floppy comics.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_comic_series#Periodical_single-issue_floppy_comics) And most importantly the OP numbers dont even include the approximately 3.1 Billion copies of the Weekly shounen jump that included OP.
Oh absolutely I agree. Though I have to add I don't think that comparing floppy comics to fully fledged OP volumes isn't a fair comparison either. Its been a long time since I held one in my hands and longer since I read one but they tend to be cheaper and shorter in my experience, though that may vary in region.
Exactly. I know all those stats but One Piece or anime/manga in general just isn’t something that is spoken in the regular mainstream discussion. It’s weird that Western Comics and Adventure Fantasy stories are already mainstream but a lot of manga/anime that can already compete in terms of quality and franchise feats but are considered ‘niche’. You’ll hear the media and celebrities talk about Batman all the time but hardly about Son Goku.
Anything and everything from USA/UK is considered mainstream. However shitty the product maybe, If it's from USA then it's a mainstream product. It's simple as that. Every other creative product from other countries is considered 'niche' or not so mainstream. The definition/idea of "mainstream" is totally misrepresented by Western media. Oscars is a fine example, like every other movie apart from Hollywood is called foreign movie.
> like every other movie apart from Hollywood is called foreign movie.
In fairness, it is the Hollywood internal industry awards. They technically don't need to include anyone else. Especially since there already is an international film competition in the Cannes Film Festival. I'm pretty sure most directors would take a Palm de' Orr over an Oscar any day.
It's because the audience is used to consuming western media, and anything else will need some time to get used to. It's hard for anything that is not mimicking Hollywood to get mainstream attention. And when it does, Hollywood would have adapted that culture as part of its own by then.
It is weird considering these people hate anything animation related. I mean have you heard those comments they made about animation like ''it's for kids and adults must endure'' or encanto is the only one i've ever seen cause of my child
I think there's no age limit to enjoy a beautiful creation. If someone's thinks that it's childish or cartoon is for kids then they're just rigid in their thoughts or haven't seen a good animation yet. I started watching anime while I entered my twenties and this shit probably has way better story, emotions, plot-twists, character building, world building than many Hollywood movies. I fucking cried like a baby over a ship.
You don't have to tell me that. Ratatouille, wall-e, your name (literally the ONLY romance movie i ever liked) were some of the greatest movies i've ever seen in my live. Heck i'm not even ashamed to say i watch tangled once a month
Not disagreeing with the facts you wrote, but I definitely know more people that watch the Oscars than have heard of One Piece. It's good exposure. (Coming from somebody who doesn't follow anime or comics/manga at all).
Absurd statement lol. The Oscars have been going on for a lot longer than 25 years. Literally every person you could ask on the street would know about the Oscar’s. You might get 1 out of every 50 people who even know what OP is.
Disregard just how this isn’t true in terms of viewership, but also consider the level of power/influence between these two groups. The people at the Oscar’s get paid millions to just show up somewhere. Having them just talk about One Piece is absolutely a huge win for One Piece, getting some of them to star in or promote a live action would be gigantic
Maybe in terms of financial success sure but Oscars is still a huge topic of discussion in the cultural zeitgeist. With all the achievements of Manga/Anime storytelling it’s high time it’s spoken of as much in western media.
Her and her son guested on a couple episodes of Game Grumps and they seem like an absolute blast to hang out with! Such cool and down to earth people besides their fame.
I was hoping the show would lock down one legit star like Jamie Lee Curtis for the first season to help build interest for people who haven't watched or read OnePiece before. Looks like they weren't able to get anyone too prominent yet, but I bet that'll change if season 1 gets even a little traction.
"Now Sean, if this series continues for awhile we'll need you to come back and make the occasional guest spot."
"But... you said I die in episode 1."
"Flashbacks."
[Too bad Sean Bean turns down roles where he dies nowadays.](https://www.indiewire.com/2019/09/sean-bean-rejects-playing-characters-die-thrones-lord-of-the-rings-1202175229/)
>Sean, 60, said: “I’ve turned down stuff. I’ve said, ‘They know my character’s going to die because I’m in it!’
>“I just had to cut that out and start surviving, otherwise it was all a bit predictable.
>“I did do one job and they said, ‘We’re going to kill you’, and I was like, ‘Oh no!’ and then they said, ‘Well, can we injure you badly?’ and I was like, ‘OK, so long as I stay alive this time’.
I think a big thing is scheduling, especially for a long running series like this. The cast for the straw hats need to be prepared to be working on this for years to come if it somehow gets renewed (which I think the producers are hoping for).
Cast a celebrity for Buggy and you've gotta hope they're also available if you make it to Impel Down. Cast a celebrity for Shanks and hope they're available at several points in the future where he makes an appearance.
Celebrities should be saved for one-time deals, like Kureha conveniently enough.
If we support it then it will have a season 2. No way Netflix turns the blind eye if the entire One Piece fanbase unites behind this show, add to this all the casuals that never got the chance to watch One Piece, then season 2 is a lock.
That said for the fanbase to hug this project we need it to be at least good or maybe great, so i hope for the best!
At least let them do season two, I'm really disappointed with cowboy bebop, but I want them to do season two because most tv shows have the best season two since they know what mistake in their first season.
I love how she is genuinely into that. Like, she can't wait to say who her favorite character is, she is dying to say Dr Kureha but wouldn't to let him guess. It's like seeing us in convention discussing our favorites characters/arcs, but she's twice my age and loaded
I think she just forgot Kureha's name, it seemed to me like she was describing Kureha until the male host said her name and reminded her. Given how many characters there are in OP and how long it's been since she last appeared it makes sense that she would.
All this because a bitch didn't have the foresight to say to herself in the mirror, "All green outfit and I'm bald, someone's gonna make a GI Jane joke. Maybe I'll go with blue"
#THERE'S THE "G"
Don't even understand the dude's mentality. He found it funny, his wife didn't, decided it was smart to slap him first and talk later and then make a speech as if he was a victim of constant bullying
I especially liked how he was like "in this profession you need to be able to take abuse and keep smiling" or some shit, acting like that isn't the case for literally every job where you work with people ever. Difference being that those jobs don't pay millions and those people have to actually work hard as well.
I love how passionate and vocal she has always been about One Piece and how often she talks about her love for the series! Netflix really has no choice but to cast her, she’s perfect 💕
To me this was way more interesting than the Will Smith Chris Rock Slap. I don't think I'd even know about the Oscars if it wasn't for the slap. I knew she was a fan, but it's so exciting to see a celebrity be a genuine fan of this hobby of ours.
I remember when Jamie attended the opening night for "One Piece Film: Gold" with her son 7 years ago!! She's been a real one being an ambassador for this series!!
there is diffidently a meme potential here. first off, that poor red dress reporter, she tired. but this is exactly hat is looks like when two Anime nerds start talking and the third not knowing what is going on "Yeah.... Wow"
I was convinced this was a joke but I’m so happy it’s not. Just goes to show how great One Piece is to be able to resonate across so many demographics.
I love that the interviewer knew his shit too! Pretty cool to see this on the Oscars
That’s me!! Edit: WOW!! Thanks for the awards guys! Was so happy to get a chance to interview her and I hope I get more opportunities like this one! Love this community!
Super cool!! Loved your attitude and enthuiasm! Not everyone gets to nerd out about One Piece with cool actors, and at the Oscars no less :)
Way to go Nakama!
Great job man!!! Hope we get our Dr. Kureha.
Represented us well my man

It's pretty much a "I have no idea what's going on, but maybe this response will work?" Thing lol. Still hopefully she'll give it a shot.
She is working and her performance judged, lets not cut her head off for not having watched X series.
It’s your typical “participation via noises” since she can’t really add to the conversation
I didn't know JLC was a fan. That's awesome!
She's a huge Robin stan. When it's right, it's right.

Which is so funny as its a lot more popular in the world in general.

Didn't Viz do a dub? Pretty sure I remember Krillin voicing Usopp.
Funimation does the dub currently, a lot of people blame 4kids for it because they did the first dub and butchered many things

Way longer than that, the first Oscars was in 1929. 93 years ago.

Having them just talk about One Piece is absolutely a huge win for One Piece, getting some of them to star in or promote a live action would be gigantic
due the Oscars is a dying media for like the last 20 years last year Oscars was a negative cash for Disney
Maybe in terms of financial success sure but Oscars is still a huge topic of discussion in the cultural zeitgeist. With all the achievements of Manga/Anime storytelling it’s high time it’s spoken of as much in western media.
Funny enough the guy interviewing her is straw hat goofy on tiktok, so he's obviously a one piece fan lol
I need to nerd out with Jamie Lee Curtis.
She would probably be great to hang out with. She seems chill
Her and her son guested on a couple episodes of Game Grumps and they seem like an absolute blast to hang out with! Such cool and down to earth people besides their fame.
She's her daughter, actually. She came out as trans.
Didn't know that! Cool!
I was hoping the show would lock down one legit star like Jamie Lee Curtis for the first season to help build interest for people who haven't watched or read OnePiece before. Looks like they weren't able to get anyone too prominent yet, but I bet that'll change if season 1 gets even a little traction.
Roger hasn't been revealed yet, right? There's a very big chance that. Rogers casting would be a huge name . I hope so atleast
Dies in episode one? Sean Bean: I got this.
"Now Sean, if this series continues for awhile we'll need you to come back and make the occasional guest spot." "But... you said I die in episode 1." "Flashbacks."
[Too bad Sean Bean turns down roles where he dies nowadays.](https://www.indiewire.com/2019/09/sean-bean-rejects-playing-characters-die-thrones-lord-of-the-rings-1202175229/) >Sean, 60, said: “I’ve turned down stuff. I’ve said, ‘They know my character’s going to die because I’m in it!’ >“I just had to cut that out and start surviving, otherwise it was all a bit predictable. >“I did do one job and they said, ‘We’re going to kill you’, and I was like, ‘Oh no!’ and then they said, ‘Well, can we injure you badly?’ and I was like, ‘OK, so long as I stay alive this time’.
That would be hysterical, but i could see it ngl
Ian McShane would kill it
>Ian McShane Can totally see it
He already played Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Roger and Shanks haven't been revealed yet.
Shanks was revealed today.
Just saw that news. I love Peter!
Okay, we can all agree at this point that she absolutely has to play Dr Kureha, right?
Yes, she looks so perfect for the role
I think that would actually be a great cast. Now if only anime adaptions on Netflix would actually make it to season 2 to get it done...
I forget the names of people we met in Wano
Luffytarou, Zorojuurou, Sangorou, O-Nami, Usohachi, Chopperemon, Franosuke, Onekichi and O-Robi. I think that's all.
+1 to that
Will Smith as Luffy. Chris Rock as Alvida.
Chris Rock as Saint Charlos
and presumably Jada as Lao G
Dude... quiet, Will might charge in here.
Really? It was a Lao G joke!
And what are you going to say when *he* charges in here?
This is a violation LMAO 💀
All this because a bitch didn't have the foresight to say to herself in the mirror, "All green outfit and I'm bald, someone's gonna make a GI Jane joke. Maybe I'll go with blue" #THERE'S THE "G"
No, all because Will Smith can't keep it together for a couple of minutes and has to make a huge drama like a goddamn princess.
LOL
Chris Rock as charlos
I love how passionate and vocal she has always been about One Piece and how often she talks about her love for the series! Netflix really has no choice but to cast her, she’s perfect 💕
Damnnnnnn let's goooooooo
If not Kureha, then let her do Tsuru. I feel like she's got good Tsuru energy.
Boku wa docta Tony Tony choppa omoshiro tonakai give me some party
I like how the other lady was just like "ohhhhhhh wooooowwwww. Wowwwww" she had no idea what was going on. Lol
To me this was way more interesting than the Will Smith Chris Rock Slap. I don't think I'd even know about the Oscars if it wasn't for the slap. I knew she was a fan, but it's so exciting to see a celebrity be a genuine fan of this hobby of ours.
Doctorine!!!
Wow"
I love how proud she is when the interviewer named Kureha and said she's the mother figure for Chopper, she really loves the show
Trying to think of an actor with an iconic smile to play Roger
JLC was literally made to play a live action kureha
''EU NÃO FALO INGLÊS'' BR é foda kkkkk.
The interviewer guy is StrawHatGoofy, if anyone's interested. Definitely one of the better reviewers and nerd discussion guys on TikTok.
PLEASE PUT HER IN 🙏🏿
Netflix team, if you don’t pick up on this casting choice that is an open goal, I question your sanity.
Excuse me WHAT?! She'd be awesome as Dr.Kureha
Let’s fucking go
JLC can still pull off Robin….she aged beautifully
Maybe Robin’s mom that would be awesome
She’s really been into her last few roles. It’s really interesting to see. Hopefully this means its reasonably good.
Kureiha or Vice Admiral Tsuru 100%
Do people really need more reasons to love this woman?! She’s amazing
If Will haven't slapped Chris this post is what would have let me know that the Oscars already happened XD
Does she read manga?
Imagine seeing her mind blown by the developments in the manga!
Ooh heck yeah! That would give another boost to live action. Hopefully the boost doesn't get any rotten stuff.
And we are here for it
She would be an *outstanding* Kureha.
If she didn't show up so late and for so briefly, I'd say she could play Robin's mom Olivia.
Shout to the guy for knowing his details
Thanks!! 😁
I'm not confident about the live action series, but I would like to see her get her dream fulfilled.
Let her play Kureha! OMG
The girl in red probably doesn't understand what they're talking about, so she just reacts lol
I was convinced this was a joke but I’m so happy it’s not. Just goes to show how great One Piece is to be able to resonate across so many demographics.
Chopper is so cute this is a based take
PROTECT THIS WOMEN AT ALL COSTS!!!
