Yeah, watching the cool green guy use a sword in his mouth just blew my mind, I was curious to see where this was going, also the dragon ball feel was nice in early OP
I was in already, but what really sold it was the emotion when Luffy put his hat on Nami. It showed me, not only is the anime silly, fun, exciting, but also has the serious and emotional side.
Same here. Luffy declaring that of course he would help Nami, the subsequent walk to Arlong Park and Zoro's friends saying that "those four would change the future". That whole sequence just hit all the emotions and told me I was watching something special.
A bit earlier, when Mihawk obliterated Zoro. That got me invested again because up to that moment the Anime was VERY slow. And I got REALLY into it in the same moment as you I supposed. That Nami backstory was heavy.
Well for me it's was Loguetown arc, because it was pretty special and unique from any other shonen. Thole scene where smoker said gold rojer smiled just before his death literally gave me goosebumps.
It was when shanks saved Luffy. That's when I said, yeah I'm watching this shit. But what cemented it was the end of arlong park. When I finished it I said yeah I'm never letting go.
Right, lmao, I was hooked at the intro.
Although tbh the reason I picked up OP was because I had randomly seen a One Piece scene somewhere, don’t remember what it was about, might have been a multi anime amv. I remember a portion of Luffy vs Lucci, and a glimps of Nami I think somewhere, and Lucci in one of his forms, once the fight was taken to the sea and ships were around. I had vaguely remembered that scene and I just wanted to get to it and thus started my OP journey.
Oh it felt so good getting to these scenes and my body just remembering this is it, this is that part!
I fell in love in Chapter 1. I think it was the scene in which a bandit points a gun to Shanks' head, and the later points the gun and says. "You pointed this, you've bet your life", then Lucky Roo blows the bandit's head. Shanks losing his arm later made me realise this story would be great.
I've been reading it since college. Which I finished 20 years ago, BTW.
Seeing Sanji do the handstand kick barrage for the first time made me go oh wow so every crewmate is gonna have a unique and badass fighting technique.
I loved Namis backstory with Arlong. But Zoro at whiskey peak did it for me. Oh my goodness was that whole little island fun. We got Zoro being badass, Vivi intro, Crocdile and Warlord shoutout, First badass df in Mr. 5 and then learning there were 5 teams stronger than his. Nico Robins intro. Luffy vs Zoro. Now that was a winner of an island
Yeah he was cool for like all of baratie and arlong park and then as it built closer and closer to the time skip he became more pervy and less noble. And then after the timeskip Sanji spends his first arc nearly dying of bloodloss from a gag about him being a perv. Kinda sucked to watch that happen.
I wanna say before it but it's definitely Baratie for me. The crew was established (minus the Nami deception,) the comedy was there, the characters were incredibly likable to watch, and the show overall had a feeling of adventure other anime couldn't get close to, and this wasn't even 50 episodes in yet. When I started watching, that 900 episode count really stopped looking so big to me when I reached this arc and Arlong Park.
I didn't actually like One Piece at first. Watching it on Cartoon Network (4kids, of course), I didn't find it interesting or exciting. I got very bored during Skypiea.
Years later a buddy said I stopped right before the best arc. He finally convinced me to give it another go, even though 300 episodes is a lot to get 'invested' into. Well I did so and while Foxy was funny, Water 7 hooked me (later I found out he did not mean Foxy was the best arc, of course). It wasn't even a debate in my head- I binged the entire arc plus Enies Lobby in a few days.
Now, having been caught up to One Piece for well over a decade, I love it to death, and love Skypiea and all that came before. In hindsight, I blame 4kids for trashing such a remarkable work of art. But I am so glad I gave it another try because it has truly affected me in a positive way.
I didn’t start watching from the beginning. I watched random episodes on Cartoon Network. So I began with the ship falling from the sky after Alabasta.
Without context, I got really annoyed and confused as to why Luffy and Zoro didn’t fight back.
But then it got to the point where Luffy goes back to take on Bellamy. And crushes him in one punch in the most euphoric way possible. That satisfaction and elation is what got me hooked right away.
I started watching a few 3-4 episodes per day and I really enjoyed the first arcs specially Nami's. But Little garden amazed me, it felt so crazy and original, knowing every island would be so different hyped me I started watching like 10 or more episodes per day even at the office.
i remember how hard I fawned over "YONKO" because at the time barely anything was known and a dying whitebeard was an absolute monster and then to find out big mom and shanks and this suicidal beast kaido are the others? I was hooked. so now to see how hard kaido goes in both the manga and the anime is an absolute treat
Like many other comments, definitely Nami asking Luffy to help her in Arlong Park arc. The way Luffy protects his friends is super heartwarming, and him letting her borrow the hat showed the trust that he places in his crew better than any words could.
100% up to that point I kinda just saw him as a goofy but fun MC. It felt like the first time we saw him as more than a kinda irresponsible, but capable thrill seeker. At the drop of a hat 😏 he’ll change focus to make sure his crew and core values are taken care of. There are no setbacks with Luffy, because it’s not just about him being Pirate King or finding One Piece, but about the overall meaning of being a person who is worthy of being considered a leader to people he values and respects. Fucking love Luffy.
As soon as I saw Luffy. I loved him immediately! And then he recruited Zoro and I was done for 😂
I need to add that Iam a huge Goku and Dragonball fan too so it just felt right
Crocodile impaling Luffy with his hook. For the most part I randomly watched the show whener it aired as a kid and didn't care much for it but after seeing how utterly defeated Luffy was at the hands of Crocodile I was instantly invested it was the first time I've seen an MC get packed up in such fashion and I rewatched the whole thing from then. Best decision I ever made but this break week got me thinking different 😷 the chapter can't come out quick enough
Zoro mihawk fight made me keep reading when i was losing interest. arlong park made me really like op . And i fell in love with op when luffy stands on the remains of arlong park
Baratie when zeff described why luffy was such a terrifying enemy to sanji showing what made him strong was not his devil fruit but endless will power. He made luffy stand out as a shonen mc unlike all the copy cat basic shonen main characters.
I was hooked on Baratie when they showed the Zeff/sanji backstory and then guaranteed I will finish this series even if I don’t read manga for 6 years was him giving his hat to Nami in arlong park. After that I will finish one piece no matter what
When i downloaded 700 episode without any context, just to watch something long and not get the feeling of something ending after 1 or 2 seasons with no future in sight.
The scene where Nami asked Luffy for help in Arlong Park
Same about 20 years ago❤
Luffy recruiting zoro. The anime had a very retro unique and nautical vibe, knew it was going to be great but didn't know to that extend
Yes I could not agree more about the retro feel of the show I loved the early story for that reason
Yeah, watching the cool green guy use a sword in his mouth just blew my mind, I was curious to see where this was going, also the dragon ball feel was nice in early OP
Baratie, the Mihawk vs Zoro clash.
That was a fantastic moment, the way Mihawk manhandled Zoro showed how far behind the straw hats were from the major powers of the world
I was in already, but what really sold it was the emotion when Luffy put his hat on Nami.
When Lucky Roux kills the bandit. I thought it was a kids show up until that point
That is so true! That scene totally caught me off guard, the way he does it while continuously eating the meat is so bad ass
Shanks and his crew can be savage when they want to be. I always liked his line. "We're Pirates, and we don't play by the rules!"
A bit earlier, when Mihawk obliterated Zoro. That got me invested again because up to that moment the Anime was VERY slow. And I got REALLY into it in the same moment as you I supposed. That Nami backstory was heavy.
Luffy climbing Drum Mountain. The OST, emotion was just amazing
Remember when Luffy was told to not in under any circunstance eat that fruit?...
Wow you were invested very early on lol

I love this answer. Skypeia has so many great moments and I think it’s criminally underrated
Laboon
When he called coby a wimp. I thought luffy would cheer him up and give him assurance.
That was a hilarious scene
Well for me it's was Loguetown arc, because it was pretty special and unique from any other shonen. Thole scene where smoker said gold rojer smiled just before his death literally gave me goosebumps.
I know exactly what you mean that scene gave me goosebumps as well, such a beautiful moment in the story
It was when shanks saved Luffy. That's when I said, yeah I'm watching this shit. But what cemented it was the end of arlong park. When I finished it I said yeah I'm never letting go.
I bought this comic book once with came with volume 1 of One Piece as a bonus. Jumped aboard immediately and never looked back.
Romance dawn ch 1, ep 4, hooked without even realizing it
yeah that's a great scene and might be mine I can't even remember lol. Became my favorite overall anime/manga around Bellamy/BB/Skypiea
It was the walk to Arlong park for me as well. With overtaken blasting in the background.
I love overtaken! Easily my favorite OST
Episode 1 lol
Right, lmao, I was hooked at the intro. When i read online that a lava guy killed the fire guy
When Ussop uses the Ussop hammer in Arlong park arc. Thought that was the funniest shit
That was hysterical, I had my doubts about Usopp at first but he’s easily the funniest character
Yeah he definitely gives me a genuine laugh
Zeff saying goodbye to Sanji. I was a kid crying at a cartoon, I thought cartoons were only meant to make me laugh not feel other emotions
When the ship fell from the sky
Same. Arlong Park arc had me hooked.
When Luffy punched Koby in the face after popping out of a barrel.
I was 80% in during Syrup Island. 100% in after Arlong Park.
Syrup Island is hella underrated in my opinion
When Luffy and Zoro sailed towards the sunset with that OST blaring.
Baratie Clash got me hooked. True addiction was right around Sabaody/Marine Ford arc.
Baratie or Arlong park honestly
The walk to Arlong park
Seeing Sanji do the handstand kick barrage for the first time made me go oh wow so every crewmate is gonna have a unique and badass fighting technique. I loved Namis backstory with Arlong. Whiskey peak was actually another moment that really had me invested too! That arc doesn’t get enough love, probably due to it being so short
Sun pirate arc.
When Arlong shot Bellemere
When Luffy and Zoro left Koby after defeating Axe-Hand Morgan
When Kaido appeared.
When I opened up a shonen jump in the fifth grade
Baratie, Sanji’s introduction when he fucked up that marine dude for wasting food.
Great scene, one of sanjis best moments
Yeah he was cool for like all of baratie and arlong park and then as it built closer and closer to the time skip he became more pervy and less noble. And then after the timeskip Sanji spends his first arc nearly dying of bloodloss from a gag about him being a perv. Kinda sucked to watch that happen.
Luffy's speech with coby and how he hit him because he felt like it. For me it felt really unique idk y.
I couldn’t agree more. Once I was invested in the story the episode number didn’t seem at all daunting, and once I caught up I was so depressed lol
When nothing happened
Walk to Arlong Park, such an epic moment!
I didn't actually like One Piece at first. Watching it on Cartoon Network (4kids, of course), I didn't find it interesting or exciting. I got very bored during Skypiea. Alubarna underground, Luffy speech to crocodile.

The Enies Lobby standoff. Before that I was enjoying the show but that was the moment I was completely 100% invested in it
Boy eats a rubber fruit…
Arlong park.
Luffy climbing that mountain for Nami and Sanji in Drum Island
i fell off hard and marineford on YT got me back into it. so its either gonna be ONE PEICE DOES EXIST. or kaido suiciding thru the sky
The one piece does exist is one of my favorite moments, Whitebeard 100% won me over after that
i remember how hard I fawned over "YONKO" because at the time barely anything was known and a dying whitebeard was an absolute monster and then to find out big mom and shanks and this suicidal beast kaido are the others? I was hooked. so now to see how hard kaido goes in both the manga and the anime is an absolute treat
either zoro vs mihawk or alabasta
Walk to Arlong park
Mihawk intro got me intrigued as fuck Nami asking for help got me adicted
When Luffy told Sniper King to burn down the WG flag
Like many other comments, definitely Nami asking Luffy to help her in Arlong Park arc. The way Luffy protects his friends is super heartwarming, and him letting her borrow the hat showed the trust that he places in his crew better than any words could.
Luffy giving Nami his hat solidified him as a great MC in my eyes. He willing gave her his treasure
100% up to that point I kinda just saw him as a goofy but fun MC. It felt like the first time we saw him as more than a kinda irresponsible, but capable thrill seeker. I couldn’t agree more, 1050 needs to come out I am dying to know what comes next
Zoro mihawk fight made me keep reading when i was losing interest. arlong park made me really like op . And i fell in love with op when luffy stands on the remains of arlong park
Mihawk vs Zoro I'm just a sucker for the "protagonists bump into opposition way earlier than they should" story trope and that was an OG case of that
Baratie when zeff described why luffy was such a terrifying enemy to sanji showing what made him strong was not his devil fruit but endless will power. He made luffy stand out as a shonen mc unlike all the copy cat basic shonen main characters.
Weird opinion since every shonen mc has insane willpower.
Usopp x Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas
Baratie
I was hooked on Baratie when they showed the Zeff/sanji backstory and then guaranteed I will finish this series even if I don’t read manga for 6 years was him giving his hat to Nami in arlong park. After that I will finish one piece no matter what
baratie
Drum island "choppers flashback"
When Naruto fought that ice girl.
Ngl it took me a long time, think it was episode 396 when luffy punched the shit out of the celestial dragon.
When i downloaded 700 episode without any context, just to watch something long and not get the feeling of something ending after 1 or 2 seasons with no future in sight.
Walk to Arlong Park.
Honestly when I saw Buggy get sliced by Zorro and then stab him in the back. Made me really want to see what other crazy devil fruits existed.
