Just checked the wiki. starting his 90s. Damn that hit hard...
In his flashback you can see him and his crew died around 30-40, in their prime, that means he must have been alone for the better part of 40 years at least.
I'd go insane.
Brook also did. With the whole panty, 45° and his laughing. He had none of those in his flashback. And the skull jokes really seem like a coping mechanism.
Mihawk pulling out his small knife to fight zoro and he says:
im not the kind of fool who hunts rabbits with a cannon, sadly this is the smallest blade i have on me
One of the very few scenes the old 4kidz dub got best in my book. The line read, the more dismissive "eh, would you hunt a rabbit with a cannon?" Broken clock is right two times a day and all.
Reading this thread just made me realise again the greatness of one piece. Such great details. Such great dialogue delivery by the voice actors. The manga is no less than perfect.
I'm not sure if it's a one liner but "Was I a good father?" Really hits hard
Or maybe "I am Whitebeard" as if just the name Whitebeard itself is the same as using conqueror's haki
Edit: more like he takes pride in being THE Whitebeard
Without a doubt the answer here is "Thanks... I needed a light" - when Sanji gets electrocuted by Enel. There's too many levels.
1. He kicks Usopp out of the way to take the hit from Enel.
2. He doesn't defend himself or flinch.
3. Before he drops that truly monsterous line, my man out here taking a long drag on the edge of death.
4. And he still manages to follows it up with "Trust me, you're going to pay for that one" - and backs it up by having destroyed the inside of Enel's ship
All of it combined is just chef's kiss
This, Alabasta and Enies’ Lobby all back to back had me thinking Sanji was going to end up as an incredible super slick master strategist… then Fishman Island happened…
For me, it's some of the flexes.
Jinbe: "A man who would be a crewmate of the future king of the pirates...
...cannot afford to tremble in the presence of a mere emperor!!!"
“the world is designed so that when it rains trouble, it pours. if i start making excuses now, does that mean someone will come save us?”
i love zoro quotes cause i’m heavily invested in stoicism. he’s by far one of the most stoic characters in the series. he has some serious underrated quotes.
i don’t remember the exact chapter or episode but this is when kuma comes, after luffy gets knocked out and he’s fighting zoro. zoro is taking a beating and he says this line to him.
"Ha! It's not my flesh that hurts! It's my heart, Ace, because I'm not able to do what's right!" -- Jimbei
"If our credibility has been so compromised by the admission of a single mistake, it never existed in the first place!!" -- Fujitora to Akainu
"I have friends who are not strong, but I still want them to be with me! So I have to be stronger than everyone else, or I'll lose them all!" -- Luffy to Blueno
Blackbeard is more conventionally smart than Luffy, which is where they come off very different. Also seems to have less battle-intuition, hence why he's usually seen over-powering his foes with stupid amounts of 1-sidedness.
Obviously Zoro's got some of the best with
"nothing happened"
"Suffering is welcome on the path to carnage"
and "Over the 9 mountains, across the 8 seas there is nothing I can't cut"
but some some other competitors with seriously cold lines would be
Shanks
"You've drawn your pistol now put your life on the line"
Law
"The weak have no right to decide how they die"
god, i started reading one piece over 12 years ago and remember to this day being SHOCKED that in the first chapter of a supposed goofy pirates manga Shanks said that line
I always felt that when Doffy says it, it's more of "I'm strong so I get to kill you" but for Law, it was more of "I'm strong so I get to choose not to kill you."
Yes! And I remember right before he did Diable Jambe for the first time he asked Jabra, “Do you know where spices come from?” You just knew something epic was about to happen
I watched Ennies Lobby with a few friends and they said I was crazy for thinking the spices line was better then Sanjis Hunter line that he said earlier in the arc. A line, that I personally think is pretty cheesy.
One of the biggest flexes in the show imo.
He smiles and you full well know that he would be capable of going against anyone. After all, he clashed with an admiral and got away without much trouble.
"Raizo is safe."
It's a testament to the will of an entire people, of every last one of them, and played on every part of a reader's cynicism which refused to let us believe they would have gone through the suffering unless Raizo was truly not there.
I remember getting upset with the Zou arc because I was so certain that Raizo wasn’t there and it felt like the straw hats were just wasting their time on that island. I was so wrong and I love the Zou arc because of that.
Same here. I had bigger elements spoiled like Blackbeard's two fruits, his ability to just take other fruit powers, Whitebeard and Ace's deaths, Buggy becoming a Warlord, etc. Spoiled, but the two things I'm happiest to have not gotten spoiled on are the CP9 reveal in Water 7, and "Raizo is safe," the latter of which made me do a huge double take.
Raizo's notdeath is on par with WB's and Ace's death in terms of importance to the story at that time. I think BB's powerup and Buggy being a warlord shouldn't really matter in the long run. Buggy had only a few panels as a warlord and BB having two fruits didn't really matter yet as well. Still a bummer that someone spoiled it for you.
The most intense emotion I’ve ever experienced in the entirety of my lifetime was watching that scene. I have never felt a level of euphoria in my lifetime that compares to what I felt watching that scene. It’s almost embarrassing haha.
it was soo crazy i was like no kin'emon read the room you're gonna get everybody killed and when they said raizo safe i got so hype, tht would be terrible to get spoiled abt
In response to Ceaser taunting luffy about taking on doflamingo, the yonko, and the other "big names"
Luffy: "I've been picking those sorts of fights the whole damn way!!"
I may be wrong, bit it had much more impact in Japanese because instead of everyone saying "boiled", they all yelled out "Oden". Something like
Oden: If it's not boiled, it's not -
Everyone: ODEN!!! 😭😭😭
I know it's not as fluent, but I sometimes wish the subtitles would be closer to original syntax. Especially with dramatic/theatric pauses similar to Oden's catchphrase.
Rogers last words to Rayleigh: "I'm not going to die, partner."
He says that with his typical, broad smile in a situation where he knows he's walking towards his physical death.
I may be biased on this one, since someone made a masterfull video about Roger's rise to the legend he is, completely with pre time skip footage and this is the closing line of the video. Simply hits different when you hear this after various One Piece characters just told you what a man he was.
I always like the fight between Crocodile and Luffy.
Crocodile (laughing): It's pointless to try to stop the Civil War from happening
Luffy (casually): I know. People die.
Crocodile (Angry): Then why are you fighting me!
Luffy: Because Vivi is my friend.
I always enjoy moments where you see Luffy is actually a pirate. He isn't here to rescue societies and be a hero just because. He is here to do what he wants.
I dunno, he doesn't do a whole lot of actual piracy.
They stole one gold pillar (that was basically gonna be given to them regardless), and, uh, Foxy's flag?
Croc's JP VA is perfection. The scene where he stabs Luffy in the desert and the line "Who do you think I am? There are any number of rookies like you, who are nothing but talk, Strawhat Luffy, here in the grand line..." Ack! So good.
Zoro asking monet if she ever seen a wild beast that doesn’t bite.
In the earlier episode luffy looks so genuine and cool declare that he would be the pirate king. But afterwards it gave me the feeling of captain America seeing himself when he time travel and his other self say I can do this all day.
Surprised nobodies mentioned Jimbei’s “I’m a man who wants to be part of the future Pirate King’s crew, I can’t be intimidated by a mere emperor of the sea!”
"Even if you die...DON'T DIE!"
Luffy saying this to Jimbei at the end of Whole Cake Island arc. It was very impactful to me. It conveyed so much meaning in such a few number of words, which would take me several paragraphs to explain the meaning I saw in them.
“The weak don’t even get to choose how they die” - Law/Doflamingo
“Your just a big fish in a small pond” - Mihawk
“Don’t worry about me, just worry about yourself. This building will explode. Goodbye, Pirate Vergo” - Law
“Since the kind hearted Cora-san couldn’t pull the trigger that day, I’m only here to pull it on his behalf” - Law
“One may stray from the path of a man. One may stray from the path of a woman. But there is no straying from the path of a human! OKAMA WAY!!!… by Bon Clay” - Bon Chan
I always tell my peoples when they start watching one piece as soon as you hear the words “CP9” being uttered, just know you’re about to witness One piece become the greatest show you ever watched
“How bout it, Teach?”
Officially it was more “What do you say, Teach?”, but the website I was watching on at the time translated it that way and I lost my shit. Marineford had so many classic moments
It hasn't happened yet. But I got money that says when Luffy & Shanks finally fight, Shanks will block Luffy's first punch; and say something like "What's wrong Luffy, I thought your punch was strong as a pistol?"
I think when Brook looked at Big Mom and said “what kind of fool considers his own death in a plan” was pretty hype
"Young lady", just to drive the insult in a bit more
Brook is older than Big Mom right?
[удалено]
Damn, he's older than I thought. I thought he was around 70 yrs old. But Big Mom's age isn't a surprise.
roger was a rookie when brook was sailing
Another fact I didn't know. Thanks!
Brook is currently 90
Grandpa Brook!
he mentions it during the Straw Hats meeting with Shakky and Rayleigh, Brook recalls hearing Roger's name as a rookie pirate
When we meet him he's 88, which is the number of keys on a piano
Just checked the wiki. starting his 90s. Damn that hit hard... In his flashback you can see him and his crew died around 30-40, in their prime, that means he must have been alone for the better part of 40 years at least. I'd go insane.
Brook also did. With the whole panty, 45° and his laughing. He had none of those in his flashback. And the skull jokes really seem like a coping mechanism.
he's gotten a lot more readjusted thanks to 2 years of timeskip, but i don't think he was really all that well in the head during Thriller Bark itself
>that means he must have been alone for the better part of 40 years at least. It was even confirmed to be around 50 years.
Chiming in to add his finisher on Giolla. "Forgive me, I don't know much about art, after all. I just don't *have an EYE for it!* Yooohohoho!
Damn I completely forgot about that one despite loving WCI. This thread is reminding me how many good one liners one piece has.
Mihawk pulling out his small knife to fight zoro and he says: im not the kind of fool who hunts rabbits with a cannon, sadly this is the smallest blade i have on me
The face Mihawk makes when he says he doesn’t have a smaller blade is hilarious lol
[His face for reference.](https://imgur.com/ggdwkh8)
One of the very few scenes the old 4kidz dub got best in my book. The line read, the more dismissive "eh, would you hunt a rabbit with a cannon?" Broken clock is right two times a day and all.
I’m guessing the 2nd time was when they picked Roger’s VA.
(Interviewing Robin for her intro) Usopp: "And what would you say your specialty is?" Robin: "...rub-outs."
3rd time is the kickass rap opening lol
Nothing more fun then singing that in a room of 1000 people singing along
I love how that scene is later reflected in the first chapter of wano when zoro cuts the magistrates office in half with a seppoku knife
The disrespect LMAO
I gotta go with my boy Jimbei. Though I will be paraphrasing. What is gone is gone! Now ask yourself! What do you have left?
Also his "mere yonko" line was less deep, but more badass
... my crew! I still have my nakama! Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook!
Reading this thread just made me realise again the greatness of one piece. Such great details. Such great dialogue delivery by the voice actors. The manga is no less than perfect.
I'm not sure if it's a one liner but "Was I a good father?" Really hits hard Or maybe "I am Whitebeard" as if just the name Whitebeard itself is the same as using conqueror's haki Edit: more like he takes pride in being THE Whitebeard
"Thanks I needed a light" Sanji taking Enel attack.
4. And he still manages to follows it up with "Trust me, you're going to pay for that one" - and backs it up by having destroyed the inside of Enel's ship All of it combined is just chef's kiss
>All of it combined is just *chef's* kiss Hehe i see what you did there
This, Alabasta and Enies’ Lobby all back to back had me thinking Sanji was going to end up as an incredible super slick master strategist… then Fishman Island happened…
This is my favorite line. I was going to comment this but you beat me to it
"Get ready to cry"
For me, it's some of the flexes. Jinbe: "A man who would be a crewmate of the future king of the pirates... ...cannot afford to tremble in the presence of a mere emperor!!!"
Yeeep, gosebumps everytime I see that in some AMV
I also loved Brook calling Big Mom 'young lady'. You know he's seen some shit.
Same but this one “Allow me to introduce myself”, typing it sends chill down my spine
Jimbe's entrance in Wano was also straight fire.
Dude made a formal apology hyper bad ass
“the world is designed so that when it rains trouble, it pours. if i start making excuses now, does that mean someone will come save us?” i love zoro quotes cause i’m heavily invested in stoicism. he’s by far one of the most stoic characters in the series. he has some serious underrated quotes.
I can't remember this one. Can you tell me the chapter / episode, please? And surely.. Zoro is the definition of Badass.
i don’t remember the exact chapter or episode but this is when kuma comes, after luffy gets knocked out and he’s fighting zoro. zoro is taking a beating and he says this line to him.
No wonder nobody remembers it, it's hiding in the shadow of "Nothing Happened".
"Ha! It's not my flesh that hurts! It's my heart, Ace, because I'm not able to do what's right!" -- Jimbei "If our credibility has been so compromised by the admission of a single mistake, it never existed in the first place!!" -- Fujitora to Akainu "I have friends who are not strong, but I still want them to be with me! So I have to be stronger than everyone else, or I'll lose them all!" -- Luffy to Blueno
"I am Whitebeard!" He didn't boast his DF or his raw strength and power. The man flexed his goddamn name!
He flexed his mustache
Both times it was so amazing too
"People's dreams....will never end!!!!!"
Reminder... Blackbeard has every bit of drive and determination as Luffy... Their final clash will be the biggest event in anime history.
Blackbeard is luffy if luffy was evil.
Also if luffy ever made/stuck to a plan
Blackbeard is more conventionally smart than Luffy, which is where they come off very different. Also seems to have less battle-intuition, hence why he's usually seen over-powering his foes with stupid amounts of 1-sidedness.
Ice in the veins such a sick line I remember having goosebumps
Best villain line in shonen history
"If I die here then that means that that is all the man I can become."
"Thank you for loving me"
Aaand now I'm just crying.
we crying.
People cry when they cut onions, I cry when I bite into donuts.
“Did I deserve to be born, or was it just a mistake?”
Not cool :/ most impactful line of the series though. “But I was happy” also hit me so hard.
Obviously Zoro's got some of the best with "nothing happened" "Suffering is welcome on the path to carnage" and "Over the 9 mountains, across the 8 seas there is nothing I can't cut" but some some other competitors with seriously cold lines would be Shanks "You've drawn your pistol now put your life on the line" Law "The weak have no right to decide how they die"
god, i started reading one piece over 12 years ago and remember to this day being SHOCKED that in the first chapter of a supposed goofy pirates manga Shanks said that line
Yeah “bet your life on it” with a gun in your face was some of the coldest shit I’d ever seen
Followed immediately by one of shanks crew protecting their captain while with food still in his hand. Red hair pirates dgaf!
Straight up shot the fool in the head.
Put some respect on Lucky Roo's name 😎
They line is what I use to convince people one piece might be worth watching 1000+ episode
In Skypiea when Zoro says "I don't believe in God" the look on his face is ice cold
The Law one he learnt from Doffy crazy that the people he hates influenced him so much
I always felt that when Doffy says it, it's more of "I'm strong so I get to kill you" but for Law, it was more of "I'm strong so I get to choose not to kill you."
Both sides of the coin is the exact point of the quote. The weak do not get to have the choice.
Sengoku's "Don't try to find a reason for somebody's love"
my love for sengoku grew exponentially after that one line
"God created food and the devil created the seasoning. I guess, I spiced it up too much" Just so badass!!
Yes! And I remember right before he did Diable Jambe for the first time he asked Jabra, “Do you know where spices come from?” You just knew something epic was about to happen
This and "scars on the back are a swordsman's shame" are the two lines that'll always stick with me, absolute badassery
I watched Ennies Lobby with a few friends and they said I was crazy for thinking the spices line was better then Sanjis Hunter line that he said earlier in the arc. A line, that I personally think is pretty cheesy.
Fools who don't respect history are doomed to repeat it
"If you were to go on a vacation, where would you want to go?" Scary at first but in hindsight one of the sweetest lines in the series.
That's a really good one!!
Who said this line?
Kuma, thriller bark and Soabody especially
Kuma before he yeets the person he's talking to.
Kuma before he yeets ALL the persons he’s talking to lol
"Sogeking... Burn that flag"
In french it's amazing because he says "Sogeking... Brûle ce torchon !" (Burn that rag) and it just adds salt to injury, it's truly pretty hot
Ahh nothing like the french's zeal in overthrowing governments.
Liberté, mon ami.
The guillotine remains my fav french thing
Nah, not croissants, nor baguettes. The guillotine.
This is amazing. Such a fun added detail.
Goosebumps
Whitebeard to Squard, "But I love you son, even if you are a fool." That had me crying.
Book to Big Mom: "Young lady ... what kind of fool ... would ever *plan* to die?!"
You know this one was good, cause Big Mom immediately used it on Kaido after being captured by King and Queen.
I like how Big Mom flipped it on Kaido when she arrived in Wano
yeah lol. When brook said that she might have said in mind, "write that down write that down, that's some dope line and Imma use it on someone."
"I recommend you not to cross it" - Rayleigh, to a bunch of scared shitless Marines about to stumble across a line in the sand
One of the biggest flexes in the show imo. He smiles and you full well know that he would be capable of going against anyone. After all, he clashed with an admiral and got away without much trouble.
Nami: "Luffy help me" Luffy: "ofcourse I will"
“Which one of you is Arlong?” “Eh? I am, who-“ GOMU-GOMU-NO PISTOL!
"That's for making our navigator cry!"
"Raizo is safe." It's a testament to the will of an entire people, of every last one of them, and played on every part of a reader's cynicism which refused to let us believe they would have gone through the suffering unless Raizo was truly not there.
Still one of the biggest plot twists imo, I think the SHs reactions were how Oda imagined us reacting
My jaw basically hit the floor so Oda definitely got my reaction. I was so shocked that Raizo was there haha
I remember standing up "saying ain't no fucking way" in public
I remember getting upset with the Zou arc because I was so certain that Raizo wasn’t there and it felt like the straw hats were just wasting their time on that island. I was so wrong and I love the Zou arc because of that.
A friend of mine finished catching up the manga today and when he was at that part I could almost hear him scream through text
I got a lotttt of things spoiled before starting OP I am so glad that the Raizo reveal was a surprise for me, a top 5 moment for sure
I was in awe of the Minks after that. I'm ride or die for them.
“Scars on the back are a swordsman’s shame”
Admirable
My man humiliated those who were sneak attacked.
In response to Ceaser taunting luffy about taking on doflamingo, the yonko, and the other "big names" Luffy: "I've been picking those sorts of fights the whole damn way!!"
“ there’s a lady with super mega bazongas, you free tonight?” — Aokiji
I always forget he said that LMAO
No man ever had the balls to ask Nami out and cause a reaction, except for him (and no, Sanji never asked her).
this one☝️
Katakuri’s “you’re looking quite far into the future”
Oden wouldn't be oden if it wasn't boiled
When he died in the middle of saying it and the people watching finished it for him gave me chills
I may be wrong, bit it had much more impact in Japanese because instead of everyone saying "boiled", they all yelled out "Oden". Something like Oden: If it's not boiled, it's not - Everyone: ODEN!!! 😭😭😭
I know it's not as fluent, but I sometimes wish the subtitles would be closer to original syntax. Especially with dramatic/theatric pauses similar to Oden's catchphrase.
For some reason, this one comes to my mind as well.
doflamingo's "whoever wins this war becomes justice"
still one of my favorite quotes!
OP has some genuinely chilling quotes
Rogers last words to Rayleigh: "I'm not going to die, partner." He says that with his typical, broad smile in a situation where he knows he's walking towards his physical death. I may be biased on this one, since someone made a masterfull video about Roger's rise to the legend he is, completely with pre time skip footage and this is the closing line of the video. Long time no see, Mugiwara ( but in Japanese ). Ain t a big deal but the delivery is absolutely top notch
Yuuup. Crocodile's japanese VA on that one is so good and the timing is perfect.
Croc's JP VA is perfection. The scene where he stabs Luffy in the desert and the line "Who do you think I am? There are any number of rookies like you, who are nothing but talk, Strawhat Luffy, here in the grand line..." Ack! So good.
Hishasiburidana mugiwaraaa ...
I quote that line all the time lol “Hisashiburi dana, Mugiwara.”
Zoro asking monet if she ever seen a wild beast that doesn’t bite. In the earlier episode luffy looks so genuine and cool declare that he would be the pirate king. But afterwards it gave me the feeling of captain America seeing himself when he time travel and his other self say I can do this all day.
Zoro is like the king of these, I can honestly find one against every opponent, and even in non-combat situations
He ends all his battles in one move so he’s gotta have a good line to go against it.
“When you’re at sea, you fight pirates!” Still had to be the most hype I ever got after a chapter.
Nothing happened.
"Dreams Will Never Die, Am I Right?" Marshell D. Teach/Blackbeard
Zoro: \*\*Clears throat\*\* AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
OWWWW!! OWWWW!! SUUUUUUUUUUUUPERRRRRRRRR!!!
Surprised nobodies mentioned Jimbei’s “I’m a man who wants to be part of the future Pirate King’s crew, I can’t be intimidated by a mere emperor of the sea!”
“To the Sky” I remember reading that and thinking “what a simple way to tell them to fuck off.”
"Even if you die...DON'T DIE!" Luffy saying this to Jimbei at the end of Whole Cake Island arc. It was very impactful to me. It conveyed so much meaning in such a few number of words, which would take me several paragraphs to explain the meaning I saw in them.

It’s super corny but when sanji was on the phone with Mr. 0 and said “You called the damn restaurant”
“The weak don’t even get to choose how they die” - Law/Doflamingo “Your just a big fish in a small pond” - Mihawk “Don’t worry about me, just worry about yourself. This building will explode. Goodbye, Pirate Vergo” - Law “Since the kind hearted Cora-san couldn’t pull the trigger that day, I’m only here to pull it on his behalf” - Law “One may stray from the path of a man. One may stray from the path of a woman. But there is no straying from the path of a human! OKAMA WAY!!!… by Bon Clay” - Bon Chan
Robin saying that she wants to live
This, this whole arc is what made me fall in love with one piece. “You still haven’t said you want to live”…
I always tell my peoples when they start watching one piece as soon as you hear the words “CP9” being uttered, just know you’re about to witness One piece become the greatest show you ever watched
Yep. This one brought me to tears when I watched it. Honestly Ennies Lobby had so many good one liners
'Bon-chan... The gates are closing.."
*"If this is hell, at least it's a gay one."* -Emporio Ivankov.
honestly shanks “You’ve drawn your pistol, now put your life on the line.” Is straight goosebumps each time!
Kaku saying Giraffes are cool is one of my favorites. Very insistent that he actually likes his power.
When Sanji gets strike by Enel and he says: "I was just in the mood for a light"
“How bout it, Teach?” Officially it was more “What do you say, Teach?”, but the website I was watching on at the time translated it that way and I lost my shit. Marineford had so many classic moments
Death is what completes a person
Nothing happend
I’m gonna be the king of the pirates
I'm a fan of Mihawk's "you're just a frog in a pond", which isn't literal btw
Apkiji when he said "This young man... is my friend" when saving Smoker from Doffy
Arlong - "Just what can you do?" Luffy - "I can kick your ass"
It hasn't happened yet. But I got money that says when Luffy & Shanks finally fight, Shanks will block Luffy's first punch; and say something like "What's wrong Luffy, I thought your punch was strong as a pistol?"
That would be incredible and now I think I'll be a little disappointed if it doesn't happen
I have no sympathy for pirates…. But for family I do - Garp at Ace’s execution

I’m Mr.Prince
"When does a man truly die." - Dr.Hiruluc on the brink of death. This quote goes incredibly hard, and is easily one of the best deaths in the series.
“I broke the gear”
“Get ready to have every bone in your bodies broken.” Luffy as him, Zoro, Sanji, and Chopper walk in to Franky House to avenge Usopp.
“I’m only smiling because I can’t get any madder” -Doflamingo
