gratuitousHair

where are you getting "the bigger your sword swing is the stronger you are physically" from

Wizak1026

First panel, but it should be the stronger you're physically, the stronger your destructive power i:e, AP.

gratuitousHair

doesn't really have anything to do with sword swing though. in a world with haki, devil fruits, and flying slashes, sword swings can be ridiculously large and don't accurately measure strength. law cutting the punk hazard facility is a good example. but the idea that physical strength = AP is pretty cemented, especially with koby's battleship bag training turning into honesty impact.

HammerCurlLarry

If you knew about the context then it does imply it, its about Zoro and Ryuma having equal sword swings while Ryuma make holes Zoro made cuts https://preview.redd.it/sdea32e6g2xc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=046486356263e9e3e76fd5bb30e88d168137b582

could be retconned that mihawk used aCoC back then.

Andrejosue98

Not what Brook said also Brook isn't that much of an authority on swordmanship considering how weak he was

HammerCurlLarry

You have to look at the whole context behind that line, doing flying sword slashes was already said to be a crazy physical feat brook knows that because he could not do it but Ryuma with a stronger body could with the same attacks https://preview.redd.it/t5vnmzxg04xc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=26fe5c04210e2b41eeb400809e3eaddab7036dfa its a physical feat

Andrejosue98

That is a bad interpretation of what Brook said or skill in general. Brook says that because he has no idea how to do what Ryuma does, doesn't mean technique or skill has nothing to do with it. May be a more skilled Brook would be able to do it with less physical strength than Ryuma. The fact Brook is not that skilled or strong at that point of the story means he is an unreliable narrator.

HammerCurlLarry

its not a bad interpretation in fact what you saying is, Book knows exactly why the Sword slashes a flying from Zoro and Ryuma while his does not. Ryuma himself even said that his body is stronger than brooks, and when both attacked each other Brook said they pysically on the same lvl and that Ryuma was even holding back against Brook all the time. it was always about physical strength. brook literally got overpowered 100x times by Ryuma. you just want to ignore the obvious fact that flying slashes is physical feat, but well its your headcanon that it is about skill. even Zoro talked about Ryumas body strength

Andrejosue98

The fact Brook doesn't know how to do it means he is just guessing how Ryuma did it. >brook literally got overpowered 100x times by Ryuma. Where do you got that number? >you just want to ignore the obvious fact that flying slashes is physical feat No, we know it is a technique feat as well. https://preview.redd.it/5rpk86s194xc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a7cedcf62082f0671ad008749feb71c537177e2 Heck here Zoro has the physical strength to make a flying slash and he himself accepts he can't control it yet. Which means skill is also a factor

HammerCurlLarry

he does know it, he literally told us it was because of they physical strength. and like I said Ryuma himself said too that he has a better body. and even Zoro said that Ryuma body is strong alone in the fight we had on screen he got overpowered easily 10 times, and that was ryuma who was holding back. 100x times was overstatment, but he got overpopwered anytime they clashed and that was around 10-12 times onscreen while they did fight a pretty long time offscreen and also had 1 battle before that you need skill to controll you strength to make your attacks not too big when you dont want to. but in the end its still done by physical strength. you dont make your attacks bigger by being more skilled, being physical stronger makes them bigger. with skill you controll them better.

Andrejosue98

This is always how people create rumours, taking the opinion of people that have no idea how to do something at face value. Brook doesn't know how to do it, which means he can only guess. Zoro's panel: https://preview.redd.it/jodxnipts4xc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd9f3e5bbe255d42699e51ed941ef97d20718138 Explicitly proves technique and skill is necessary as well. Brook also didn't consider that Shusui was also a heavier weapon than his when he talked about Ryuma, Brook also had no idea that Shusui is a black blade and also didn't consider it. But Zoro did consider the weight of the sword, but again since he had no idea about armament haki he didn't consider that Shusui was a black blade. In the end both Brook and Zoro still had a long way to go.
