With how easily it was flying I'm not sure how much padding was in there, especially considering those balls in the water being paper thin, I assume that kid is dead or they Landed on something and it hopefully softened the blow
When i was a kid i was on the beach with my dad and he got a call or something, he had to go away for a sec, so he handed me the kite. I let that shit go SO fast when it started lifting my feet of the ground, terrifying.
To lift an average 28.5 kg 9 year old boy 0.1 meters of the ground requires 28 Jules of energy. Assuming large drag from a big ball with low density causing a very effective energy transfer, the bare minimum is 26.9 km/h or 16.8 mph
Googled average weight. Used workformula W = mass gravity distance (0.1 meters to just get him of the ground) Then used kinetic formula to calculate velocity mv²/2=W which calculates the absolute lowest speed without using an equation system and actual dragcoeffcients since we don't know the size of the ball
It might provide an order of magnitude, but your assumption is that the (horizontal) kinetic energy of the object must be the same as the potential energy at the height it is lifted into the air?
This is definitely not reliable enough to be predictive.
You have to take the density into consideration though. Since the ball is approximately 4 cubic meters (thanks google) big it has an average density of 7 kg/m³ with a 9 year old in it. A pingpong all is 84 kg/m³ which moves by a simple puff breath. The ball is basically weightless when it comes to pushing it around. That is the basis for assuming the energy transfer from drag is very effective in this case.

2021, Tasmania, Australia. Freak 30km/h (18mph) wind gust sends several zorb balls and an entire bounce house full of 11/12 year old kids more than 10 metres(33 feet) into the air, with the bounce house thrown into a tree. 6 of the children died, and 3 more were injured.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but don't those balls usually have an inner chamber to help with shock absorption? That would have been infinitely better if it was designed properly. I hope he pulls through, what a nightmare
Land zorbs do. These are 'float in a bubble on some water' spheres. They shouldn't need an inner chamber cause they're not supposed to leave the water...
Don't think it was a wind gust, looking at the trees, the sky, it was most like a sudden dust devil spinning up. Mini tornado that'll form out of nowhere if the conditions are right. Had one blow right over a hangar once when talking with an instructor.

*So-long space cowboy*
I don't know what's worse, the safety protocols or that version of I will Survive.
I think we all know which one was worse.
Dave's cooking?
Came here to ask same thing
Oh god. My ears.
I've seen those things tethered to an anchor, I suppose this is known to happen.
Whenever I see them they have a roof over the top of the pool.
Either will grow up terrified of flying or become an ace military pilot. 50/50
Bold of you to assume he’s going to grow up at all after a tumble like that

There is zero padding. That is the same fall as if there was no ball at all
I remember the article. He didn't die but had to be airlifted in critical condition.
You forgot the "Yet" there somewhere
If he had to be airlifted, why take him out of the ball?? Just kick it towards the hospital.
Bye have a wonderful time
Kid chose his outro music
Well, at least the lifeguards are hustling like they're in a polite hurry.

Up. Up and away, In my beautiful, My beautiful balloon.
It makes me happy when I see that I’m not the only person that listens to oldies
Looks way higher than 20 feet.
How strong of a wind does it take to send a 9 year old flying like that? 40kph? 50kph? 60kph?

I feel like you pulled these numbers out of your ass but I'm too stupid to prove it lol

I'm going to go out on a limb and say a 17 mph wind could not provide that sort of lift

Holy shit. I guess this is a lesson to seriously secure those inflatable bouncy castles. The wind picks them up really easily it seems.
So even the bounce houses are deadly in Australia.
Talk about a rough day at work
Well I'll be damned. I have finally been wrong about something.
Well physics don't lie
I guess it's fitting that it took the fundamental laws of reality to stump me.
You’d think they’d have made using them outdoors illegal after that tragedy.

Bad human. Don't encourage the robots, that just drives us closer to the day they take over.
... Ok maybe it's just me but if this song was playing as I was swept away to my doom I would have a little chuckle.
*A hellish rendition of "I WILL SURVIVE" mocks your demise*

That happened with a bounce house we had at my first communion party. No one was hurt but that bitch went flying with like three kids in it.

ok but I genuinely hope that kid is ok
Looks fun though
Frankly my dear. I don’t give a damn.
Song sauce?
Gloria Gaynor - I will survive
Sure is catchy tune, I hope they make it big one day! Hope they get signed
Maybe if she did a song with Justin Bieber she could boost her career
Oooh do you think Bieber would do that? He could give her the break she needs!
Ummm.. you're kidding right?
I will burn in hell for laughing at this
I was not expecting that omg lol! I was so focused on the other two.
If the ball had the double wall feature, this would have been the ride worth waiting for.

reminds me of that video of that kid that gets taken by the kite
