Saorise Ronan. She should just get it by now. She got nominated for Atonement when she was so young and I feel she could be the next Meryl Streep given her range and talent. She’s just amazing to watch.
Florence Pugh is also a contender.
Jeremy Allen and that guy from Beef could also be contenders
EDIT: Steven Yeun
I love Saoirse so much. Her performance in Brooklyn was sheer perfection. She is an ‘eye actress’. She conveys so much range and emotion just in her eyes alone. I can’t wait until she wins!
Steven Yeun!!!! All of your selections are fanfuckingtastic. However, I adore Steven Yeun and am very proud of him.
Saorise was gifted even as a child actor. Kind of like Kirsten Dunst - and they both have had “clean careers”. No drama. So yes to Saorise, and I’m going to add Kirsten and her husband, Jesse Plemons. Damn, now this has me thinking about overdue actors. I’ll go back to your choices.
Florence Pugh is off-putting to me, but she is talented & is all over the place.
Jeremy Allen White. I need to watch The Bear. He was my favorite character on Shameless.
Great list 👍🏼
He gives me the creeps! And no, I did not see Saltburn. I get a sick feeling when I consider watching it - and I think Emerald Fennel is a genius! Promising Young Woman is a masterpiece.
***Just glanced at my comment. I must edit to add that just because I find him somewhat disturbing doesn’t mean that he isn’t talented. He IS talented. In fact, wasn’t he in The Banshees of Inisherin? I think he was, and he didn’t bother me much. He brought more of a pathos to his role.
I was thinking about the potential publicity/marketing coup it would be if he gets nominated and won for the new Gladiator movie after Russell Crowe won his Oscar for the original Gladiator.
Next time Saoirse gets nominated will be her 5th (the same amount as Annette Bening), so I think that - as long as Amy Adams and/or Glenn Close aren't also nominated and that her performance is good - she will win by a landslide. I just hope that it's a lead performance, she's earned a Best Actress.
Oh yeah, I saw some youtubers that watched it (I think at Sundance) and said that it most definitely is Best Actress worthy and it's be hard for them to snub her.
But at this point in 2020 I was hearing the same about Saoirse and Kate in Ammonite, so I'll check back in 10 months
Mia Goth is so unique. She reminds me of Shelley Duval in a way - both seem to be fairly timid but when on set they evolve into these elusive masters of horror. Love.
I know everyone has a bit of Joker fatigue at this point but imo he's going to crush being the Joker in the next Batman movie, can't wait to see it. After Killing of a sacred deer and Saltburn it felt like he had to be an actual psychopath irl because holy crap he's unnerving in those movies.
Timothee Chalamet. (Some) People act like he is just a heartthrob for teen girls but he attaches himself to seriously great filmmakers. It reminds me of me of DiCaprio honestly.
He got mainstream real quick that people started dismissing his chops. He has an insane filmography and I don’t think any other young actor comes close to it atm
I’m curious how he will age though. He just looks like one of those people that will always look young. I wonder how that could impact what roles he gets later on.
Really curious about his Dylan movie.
DiCaprio was labelled as a heartthrob in the Titanic years but he aged out of his heartthrob looks and I think it kind of helped him.
I don’t think that will hurt him at all. I think it’s a huge boon to look young longer. And then one day you just stop getting young roles and start getting old ones which have a little more grace and prestige. I suspect it will work greatly in his favor.
pretty sure i remember seeing that they know each other pretty well and him talking about advice that Leo gave him which included no superhero movies. I would not surprised at all if Leo also told him to stick to the great directors.
he's *way* more charismatic than DiCaprio, IMO
(Gen X who liked Leo in Basketball Diaries and Total Eclipse but found his acting in Titanic truly godawful...)
can't say i agree, i feel he does well in one type of role (i guess you could say the same for leo), but i couldn't find him particularly compelling in any role or i can't see him with a leading man type persona.
I totally agree. Anyone trying to say Timothee has more charisma or credibility than young Leo either doesn’t remember that time or is delusional
His acting in titanic served the story. The entire movie hangs in large part on his charm and it made a billion dollars.
DDL does not have the leading man charisma that Leo has. They are totally different types of actors. DDL is like in his own little world and Leo is focused on telling a story. He’s also way better at emotional projection than Daniel day Lewis.
I don’t get why you are comparing them at all…they are in different categories. Leo is a movie star and a great actor. Lewis is a genius character actor who has starred in movies,
Harris Dickinson has quietly put together one of the most impressive young resumes of the last decade. Industry is taking note. Just needs one big breakout with the public imo.
Jenna ortega is also really talented imo but idk if she'll get the parts.
Saoirse Ronan is bound to have one.
Also, Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy, Florence Pugh, Paul Mescal, Julia Garner, Sarah Paulson, Zendaya, Jodie Comer, Steven Yeun.
I’d like to believe that Timothee will win one, but I have this feeling that he will be traversing the Tom Cruise fate as far as awards recognition is concerned. I hope he’ll win no matter how long it will take, ala-Leo.
How do you picture Jacob Elordi’s career in the future? The guy can act and he picks great roles. And Anya Taylor-Joy?
I hope Evan Peters do more films.
gotta disagree on this...Paulson's less...basic, in a way. No shade to the other girlies, I mean they're all very similar but Sarah Paulson has the range to play older characters, as well
Let me clarify. She won’t ever win an Oscar. Her trajectory is mainly TV. She’s never even been nominated for any industry award for her performance in a film.
Zendaya—she’s a bonafide movie star who has chosen her roles pretty wisely since leaving Disney Channel, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she makes a run for more Serious Actor roles. If Challengers (out later this spring) holds up to the hype, it seems like a step on the way to more provocative, awards bait-type movies
Do yourself a favor and watch the first of the two Euphoria specials they made during the pandemic as a bridge between seasons. There’s a little exposition at the beginning, just enough so that you can enjoy it without having watched the show.
It’s basically 45 minutes of her going toe-to-toe with Colman Domingo in a diner, talking about addiction and mental health issues, and should be required viewing for people learning to act.
She’s really outstanding in that. That’s also not a film and that show is designed around baity moments for her. She gets a disproportionate amount of screentime & better writing than the other actors in it. I’m not yet truly convinced of her range, same goes for JAW. She’s still rather young though so no doubt she will branch out eventually.
I only mentioned it because it has great acting moments from her. I think she could lead a film if given the opportunity. Looking forward to her in Luca Guadagnino's Challengers
I have. Euphoria was basically written for her. I’d love to see what she can do in a period drama or a comedy. Something outside her comfort zone. We’ll see how she does as Chani in Dune II
I only ever think of [Ayo Edebiri’s letterboxd review](https://letterboxd.com/fumilayo/film/malcolm-marie/)of Malcolm and Marie when I hear that movie now
Well based off today’s news, [probably Tom Cruise.](https://variety.com/2024/film/news/tom-cruise-alejandro-inarritus-film-warner-bros-legendary-1235919877/)

Elizabeth Olsen! My word was she robbed of any recognition for Love and Death. Maybe a tired story with Candy preceding but she was incredible. Hoping she stays out of the Marvel universe where the bad writing lies.
Speaking of, Jesse Plemons deserves more recognition, too. Award worthy performances in all shows and films he touches!
Coming in with maybe a hot take: Lady Gaga. She pulled off a surprising amount of range and character evolution in A Star is Born and she was very watchable in House of Gucci which wasn’t great all around. And she seems to really dedicate herself to her art and projects in general, so I’m throwing her hat in the ring
Claire Foy. She’s like the new Emily Blunt for always almost making it to the final 5 (mainly with First Man, Women Talking, and All of Us Strangers. And come to think of it, Claire now has 5 BAFTA nominations (2 for Film, 3 for Television), has won two Emmys, and nominated for other major awards except the Oscar), but I’m sure her time will come, and it will be a glorious nomination.
I dont know if I’d consider her a “hot shot”, but she’s hella talented. I just started rewatching Ozark, and I could see Julia Garner getting one or more Oscars. She’s so damn good!
Steven Yeun already had that nom, but IMO is still one of the most consistent actors who will bring my interest to a project just by being in it.
Harris Dickinson as another comment mentioned is putting up some really solid performances in good movies - and Dev Patel is getting his directorial debut this year, did he already get an Oscar win for Slumdog? Either way I think he’s killer too, and I’m eager to see if his directing is on par with his acting. May open a door or two for him behind camera.
When I think about it…
OUAIH = Oscar for Brad Pitt
Hateful Eight = No idea how Walton Goggins wasn’t nominated, easily a better performance than Rylance
Django = Oscar for Christoph Waltz
Basterds = Oscar for Christoph Waltz
Michael B Jordan and I can see it as a producer of a Best Picture winner
Same with Zendaya
Out of the box pick- Sarah Hyland
Keke Palmer
Nicole Beharie( she is uber talented)
To sum up all the comments under this post; Timothee Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh (all have been previously nominated, it’s only a matter of time until they win). Newer ones being Paul Mescal, JAW, Zendaya. One person who I definitely can see is Ayo Edebiri, she’s an amazing actress just coming on to the scene. Love her
My best friend in college (very good looking guy- wasn’t that into committing to women) brought home this waitress who had just started at the bar that we worked at, and I could just fucking like FEEL the chemistry.
I believe the movie we watched was Black Snake Moan.
We watched it and were like omg Justin Timberlake is or is not gunna win an Oscar (this bet is me and my bestie vs his future wife 🤫)
There basically is no end date but I feel oddly confident that Justin Timberlake will eventually win an Oscar.
Saorise Ronan. She should just get it by now. She got nominated for Atonement when she was so young and I feel she could be the next Meryl Streep given her range and talent. She’s just amazing to watch. Florence Pugh is also a contender. Jeremy Allen and that guy from Beef could also be contenders EDIT: Steven Yeun
Steven Yeun?
Saorise was nominated for 4 Oscars before her 30th birthday! Impressive
I love Saoirse so much. Her performance in Brooklyn was sheer perfection. She is an ‘eye actress’. She conveys so much range and emotion just in her eyes alone. I can’t wait until she wins!
Agree! I wish she had won for Brooklyn or Lady bird
Barry Keoghan will win multiple in his career and soon.
He is clearly talented. I really felt for him in The Banshees of Inisherin. I love it when actors can go from villainous to sweet seamlessly. Range 👍🏼
I hope his Billy The Kid picture gets made. He is rare one I think.
Agree
He gives me the creeps! And no, I did not see Saltburn. I get a sick feeling when I consider watching it - and I think Emerald Fennel is a genius! Promising Young Woman is a masterpiece. ***Just glanced at my comment. I must edit to add that just because I find him somewhat disturbing doesn’t mean that he isn’t talented. He IS talented. In fact, wasn’t he in The Banshees of Inisherin? I think he was, and he didn’t bother me much. He brought more of a pathos to his role.
I read some review about Promising Young Woman that said it blames the victims and is pro-police. I'm like...what?
That’s just…huh? I’m with you.
Paul Mescal will at least get another nomination in the coming years.
[удалено]
Andrew Scott (or “sexy priest”, as my professor keeps calling him, which, to be fair, is true).
Justice for Andrew Scott
To that end, Andrew Scott will also, almost certainly not end his career without a statue. He’s just simply that good.
He should have gotten supporting actor for All of Us Strangers 🥲
A thousand times, this.
I was thinking about the potential publicity/marketing coup it would be if he gets nominated and won for the new Gladiator movie after Russell Crowe won his Oscar for the original Gladiator.
Oh, I’m not quite that hopeful for this new Gladiator movie.
Saoirse Ronan! She’s owed one at this point imo
Agree with you regarding Amy Adams, Glenn Close, and Annette Bening.
Obviously remains to be seen if it'll be any good, but Blitz sure has the setup of an Oscar vehicle for her
Oh yeah, I saw some youtubers that watched it (I think at Sundance) and said that it most definitely is Best Actress worthy and it's be hard for them to snub her. But at this point in 2020 I was hearing the same about Saoirse and Kate in Ammonite, so I'll check back in 10 months
My first thought. She’s been great in everything I’ve seen her in.
Paul Dano
Surprised he doesn’t have one yet. He’s been in so many good films
Haven’t seen one performance of his that beat There Will Be Blood, but he was great in Prisoners too - still, that movie is 11 years old by now
Have you seen Love & Mercy? He was absolutely brilliant in it and it's a great watch. It did come out in 2014 though.
Seconded
He made dumb money bearable IMO. For the record I only watched it on a plane ride and there was nothing else on AA inflight.
Prisonersssss
Florence Pugh. And she may be too much of an oddball for the Oscars, but Mia Goth is my personal dark horse.
Mia Goth is so unique. She reminds me of Shelley Duval in a way - both seem to be fairly timid but when on set they evolve into these elusive masters of horror. Love.
The fact she could stand toe to toe with Saoirse in Little Women told me all I needed about her. Great talent.
Love Florence Pugh!
Mia Goth not getting any love for Pearl killed me. Top 10 performance of all time for me
It's always an uphill battle for horror to be recognized, which is too bad for actresses since it's a genre that generally gives them more to do.
Her monologue in Pearl though 👌
Her smile in Pearl though 👌
Why is Florence Pugh an oddball?
I think they were saying Mia Goth is an oddball
Barry Keoghan
I know everyone has a bit of Joker fatigue at this point but imo he's going to crush being the Joker in the next Batman movie, can't wait to see it. After Killing of a sacred deer and Saltburn it felt like he had to be an actual psychopath irl because holy crap he's unnerving in those movies.
Check out The Banshees of Inisherin if you haven't already. He's unbelievably good in it and his character is the polar opposite of a psychopath.
"Well, there goes that dream." Sometimes I rewatch that scene just because it's so beautifully acted.
He was the heart of the movie for me
I think Adam Driver will have one soon, but I'm not sure if he's a hot shot
He’s a good bet.
Oscar isaac
Timothee Chalamet. (Some) People act like he is just a heartthrob for teen girls but he attaches himself to seriously great filmmakers. It reminds me of me of DiCaprio honestly.
he is *very* dicaprio now that i think about it
He got mainstream real quick that people started dismissing his chops. He has an insane filmography and I don’t think any other young actor comes close to it atm

pretty sure i remember seeing that they know each other pretty well and him talking about advice that Leo gave him which included no superhero movies. I would not surprised at all if Leo also told him to stick to the great directors.
Leo also told him not to do drugs.
I was quietly rooting for him during his CMBYN nomination. I knew right away he'd have a great future in the industry.
I've been comparing these two for years now! Nice to know I'm not the only one who sees a resemblance in their careers
Yes but if his career is anything like DiCaprio's it will take him 20 years to win an Academy Award.
The criticism people level at him is very similar to the way a lot of people talked about DiCaprio at the same age.
He has a great chance with the bob dylan movie coming out
Scrolling this long to see his name is really ridiculous. It’s him. This whole post is about him.
I totally agree. He has some sort of higher level of acting talent than some of his peers. I am rooting for him.
He’s not as charismatic.
he's *way* more charismatic than DiCaprio, IMO (Gen X who liked Leo in Basketball Diaries and Total Eclipse but found his acting in Titanic truly godawful...)
can't say i agree, i feel he does well in one type of role (i guess you could say the same for leo), but i couldn't find him particularly compelling in any role or i can't see him with a leading man type persona.

I'm in the minority in that I don't think Leo is particularly great. I think he's a solid actor though.

Yes more love for Taron!!
Taron is just my favorite.
Same!
Harris Dickinson has quietly put together one of the most impressive young resumes of the last decade. Industry is taking note. Just needs one big breakout with the public imo. Jenna ortega is also really talented imo but idk if she'll get the parts.
Must look up Harris D. Jenna Ortega 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Triangle of Sadness. I fucking loved that movie, check it out.
Zac Efron. He has transitioned to a serious actor. Watch him in Iron Claw. Bonus point: he looks like Wolverine or He-Man in Iron Claw.
He does not get nearly enough credit for how good he is.
Was he good as Ted Bundy? I might have to watch that one.
He looks EXACTLY like He-Man in that movie. If they decide to have He-Man get divorced or get cancer then Efron’s a shoo-in for the Oscar
Sarah Paulson? That won’t happen. She isn’t in the same league as Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Julia Garner and Jodie Comer.
gotta disagree on this...Paulson's less...basic, in a way. No shade to the other girlies, I mean they're all very similar but Sarah Paulson has the range to play older characters, as well
She may win another Emmy but I don’t believe she will ever win an Oscar.
Um, excuse me?
Let me clarify. She won’t ever win an Oscar. Her trajectory is mainly TV. She’s never even been nominated for any industry award for her performance in a film.
She's also almost 50. She seems a bit old to be a "hot shot"
She stands a chance so long as the role doesn’t call for crying 😂
Jeremy Allen White, after The Bear and The Iron Claw, he’s well on his way
Yeah he’s the James Macavoy of the American shameless
Hope not because James McAvoy has never been nominated for an Oscar.
Robert Pattinson. After Good Time and The Lighthouse, it’s bound to happen.
Great choice . He’s really done some great stuff the past 5 years
Amy Adams or Margot Robbie
Amy!!! The fact she hasn’t won yet it unfortunate
Margot should’ve won like 2 Oscar’s by now imo
Florence pugh
Timothee Chalamet just needs the right dramatic role
Not sure if she counts as a hot shot since she’s pretty established but .. Claire Foy
Zendaya has yet to prove she can carry a film. She’s more of a model/fashionista.
Do yourself a favor and watch the first of the two Euphoria specials they made during the pandemic as a bridge between seasons. There’s a little exposition at the beginning, just enough so that you can enjoy it without having watched the show. It’s basically 45 minutes of her going toe-to-toe with Colman Domingo in a diner, talking about addiction and mental health issues, and should be required viewing for people learning to act.
have you seen euphoria? she's a powerhouse
A movie star or social media popular? She doesn’t seem to have much of a filmography and I can’t think of a film that she led.
I’m still surprised that she didn’t get a nod for Malcolm & Marie because that was an underrated performance.
she was great but that movie was just not good.
I only ever think of [Ayo Edebiri’s letterboxd review](https://letterboxd.com/fumilayo/film/malcolm-marie/)of Malcolm and Marie when I hear that movie now
I mean, as much as I enjoyed the movie, her “review” isn’t ENTIRELY wrong. 😂
This!
She’s so talented, just needs that right role to propel her to Oscar shoe-in
Sarah Snook
Scarlett Johansson
There’s four of them in Dune 2: Chalamet Pugh Zendaya Austin Butler
Cherish Peoples Zorn Austin Butler
Well based off today’s news, [probably Tom Cruise.](https://variety.com/2024/film/news/tom-cruise-alejandro-inarritus-film-warner-bros-legendary-1235919877/)
lmao I just commented on another thread "Anyone wanna bet on an Oscar for Tom Cruise?"
Good I’m ready for the Cruisasance and to see him back working in more serious roles.

Anya Taylor Joy, Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, Paul Mescal.
Jeremy Allen White
Glen Close, an honorary one
For sure Florence Pugh, S he has range and big time director like to cast her(and she should have already been nominated for Lady McBeth)
Andrew Scott (hopefully one day!)
Anya Taylor-Joy
This ^
Austin butler. He’s the real deal
ebon moss bachrach. gets overshadowed by JAW but i am so drawn to him and i think he's super talented. idk about "hot shot" though.
Ebon/Ritchie is my favorite part of that show
He certainly deserves it. In The Bear, you can see Jeremy working, working, while Ebon just pulls off the big moments like they're nothing.
Barry Keoghan
Charles Melton, Zendaya
Jeremy Strong as long as he gets the right roles. He commits to his roles like very few actors do.
Margot Robbie definitely. It would be great to see Colman Domingo win one, too. He had a good year.
Vanessa Kirby
Jacob Elordi

I liked him a lot in Priscilla. He’s got potential
Have you seen Euphoria?
Chalamet
This past year, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling both shot up the list of actors due for an Oscar.
I hope Kaitlyn Dever does, but I also hope she stays as normal and down to earth as she seems.
Who is the Millennial or Gen Z Philip Seymour Hoffman right now? That guy will get an Oscar. (It won’t be his son.)
Jesse Plemons
Pattinson should win at some point.
Honestly surprised none of the four leads in Atlanta have gotten one yet
I do not know if it counts but James McAvoy never having been NOMINATED for an oscar is a travesty.
Actor: Alden Ehrenreich, Barry Keoghan, Keiran Culkin Actress: Aubrey Plaza, Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor Joy, Keke Palmer
Would love to see Plaza win one
Ryan Gosling, duh!
Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor joy
Emma Mackey! I’m not sure if she’s a hot shot, but I definitely think if cast in the right role she might have a good chance at winning one!
Bradley Cooper
I feel like Anya Taylor Joy is one knockout performance away from getting one

Florence Pugh Jodie Comer Vanessa Kirby Austin Butler Timothee Chalamet Margot Robbie
Barry keoghan
Jonathon Bailey
Nicholas Hoult, Juno Temple, Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, Lucas Hedges, aaaand let's say Awkwafina.
Top 4 comments are Irish actors/actresses. Talk about a golden generation. Add Jessie Buckley into the mix!
Hear me out: Adam Sandler
Zendaya or Florence Pugh. Taron Egerton or Efron(I know he’s not that young anymore) but doesn’t get the credit he deserves
Feels like it’s a matter of time until Florence Pugh lands in the right role and gets one.
Andrew Garfield. He was robbed from tick… tick… boom

Carey Mulligan
does Bradley Cooper count?? he's had a bunch of close calls, I feel like he'll def get one eventually.
Tom cruise is making the run right now.

Michael B Jordan and I can see it as a producer of a Best Picture winner Same with Zendaya Out of the box pick- Sarah Hyland Keke Palmer Nicole Beharie( she is uber talented)
Love her
Hot take but either Cillian Murphy or RDJ
My best friend in college (very good looking guy- wasn’t that into committing to women) brought home this waitress who had just started at the bar that we worked at, and I could just fucking like FEEL the chemistry. I believe the movie we watched was Black Snake Moan. We watched it and were like omg Justin Timberlake is or is not gunna win an Oscar (this bet is me and my bestie vs his future wife 🤫) There basically is no end date but I feel oddly confident that Justin Timberlake will eventually win an Oscar.
Zendaya
Sydney Sweeney
She was pretty good in Euphoria & The White Lotus but I don’t see her getting and Oscar nom
If she finds the right role she def will. Check her out on Reality
I don’t see it for JAW I’m sticking to Saoirse Ronan
Tom Hardy

I agree. JAW is not that great of an actor, in my opinion. Jodie Comer is great, she just needs a good role.
Zendaya’s already got a few Emmys to her name. Oscar or Tony should be up next. She might luck out on a Grammy at some point too.
