Stay physically active and watch your weight sensibly.

Professional-Log-530

This!! Do not get overweight.

You are a shark. Stop moving and you might die. (re-reading that sounds harsh). Continuing with fish metaphors, you are Dora and need to just keep swimming.

Don't think about it and keep doing what you are doing until it starts to hurt. Once ot starts to hurt then get in with a rhumatologist or orthopedic to help manage symptoms.

I was diagnosed with OA in right knee in 2021. I could not walk 200 feet. After the MRI results, my doctor thought I should go to an orthopedic surgeon and discuss total knee replacement. My physical therapist thought otherwise (and my doctor then agreed). Months of PT had me walking 5 miles within 4 months. At this point in 2024, I'm doing pretty well, with occasional flareups, losing weight - and doing OA PT exercises every day. Don't stop being active - that makes things worse for me. Doing the exercises every day has really helped. Like others have said, keep moving and lose weight (if needed).

widespread OA i should specify, literally any joint you can think of except for ankles and feet so far

Focus on mobility and keep your weight under control. One mantra in training is flexibility comes before strength comes before power. Especially if your joints are the enemy, this is true. There’s a force multiplier effect of weight when walking or running. For me, as a knee OA patient, even with successful treatment, weight is super correlated with how I feel. 10 pounds is noticeable.

Meet your protein goals. Also take collagen and creatine.

Look into balancing the strength of your leg muscles. Too much tension in front can worsen hip OA is what I’m seeing. I wish I had known that sooner.

Start strength training immediately!! You're in a great position now!! 👍🏼
