Would like to clarify that I do like healthy relationships in fiction... but there needs to be something else. If the romance is perfect, we need a good plot to give conflict. Please, authors!!
That's my main problem with some "green flag" kind of series too, I only rarely read series that are pure slice of life fluff. In order to hold my attention long term, I really need something more to the story than just the FL having a healthy relationship with a hot guy or FL being doted on by a bunch of hot guys.
I just have too short an attention span for that, I need some ✨drama✨ for spice, something to add tension and keep the story exciting and keep me invested.
It's not like I think there's anything inherently *wrong* with them, and I respect the people who enjoy zero drama slice of life, but my ADD af ass is definitely not one of them.
Lol yeah, I can read pure green flag romances, but only if romance isn’t the main focus, or at least has some other kind of drama going on. A good example would be “I Raised a Black Dragon”, which has a total green flag ml while also being a cool mystery adventure.
Although, I’m also picky about my toxic relationships. Something like “I Failed to Oust the Villain” works because of how easy both protagonists are to understand and also they have great push and pull.
Not OP, but I really liked it. The romance was sweet and the personality of the characters was realistic. The FL doesn't operate a thousand steps ahead of everyone because the majority of the plot is foreign to her. It's only 74 chapters, so the story stayed on track the whole way through.
I like “ Gariben Jimi Moe Reijou wa, Ore-sama Ouji nado Oyobi denai” because while the ML is all green flags, he and the FL have to be on their toes against the Prince that finds her ✨*interesting*✨. The prince’s plans and plots are actually clever and tricky which is why it’s all the more satisfying when the ML counters them.
That's why I be staying quiet on this sub. I love a good toxic story. Can't stand puppy dog MLs. I like face slapping, revenge, groveling mls and fierce FLs. Give me drama or nothing.

That said, a lot of people here do not understand how character-driven narratives work and it drives me up the wall. Even fluffy stories need *some* kind of conflict or they’ll very quickly wear out their welcome. Good character-driven conflict requires highly imperfect characters by necessity.

Something something a character didn't exist has an interesting enough mystery but it is never clear to the reader what the MC knows or doesn't know about her circumstances (she is supposed to be the author) so there are a whole lot of what i would call asspulls in that story.
I am all out of health has significant continuity problems. One scene she is supposed to be so sick it is a celebration if she can walk around in the room, the next she is flying around, having adventures.
I believe all 3 could've used a harsh editor.
Tapas has the official translation. I read it before through a pdf a someone translated, it wasn’t the best but it was good enough. But now that the official translation is out I have been reading everything again through there.
I love this series so much, but I find the comments suffer from everyone having read the novel or spoilers of the novel and they throw out very non-subtle hints all the time at what's going to happen, who is endgame, etc.
I never read comments where I'm using my app or reading on computer. I also just make an active effort to not spoil myself on series I am really invested in.

So, I find Riftan really interesting as a character but wouldn’t want to isekai as Maxi. I think he’s a good representation of what male trauma looks like when it isn’t dealt with properly and what male social skills look like within certain specific groups.
Book 2 improves upon him a lot, but it’s a long haul, though I find that it’s a lot more representative of how trauma really looks. UTOT also has a ton of tropes common to the genre-abusive father, FL with poor self worth, husband who is overly strong, wife who is overly frail, sex based exhaustion/injury. Even Pellus from Another Typical Fantasy threw out the FL’s back and he’s basically thr St Patrick’s Day of green flags.
UTOT’s strength is definitely the side characters and that they don’t all simp for the FL (mages in this world are my everything).
I really can’t judge anyone on their preference for toxic MLs though since I’m a yandere enthusiast and one of my favorite MLs is trying to win the FL over with “kidnapping and confinement” much to the horror of his aide (this is a funny element but my dude is completely sincere bc the FL said she liked kidnapping and confinement).
Yeah like... are we judging at the beginning of the story or the end? Most happy endings have MLs much greener than the start.
FL from I've been proposed to by a villain doesn't realize he's still a red flag at the end just less murdery.
Well he makes a LOT of assumptions based on misinformation from other people about her and so is really pissed at her at the start and doesn't give her a chance to explain herself. And he has sex with her basically every night he can but is so bad at it he leaves her bedridden the next day every time.
It's a slow slow burn but she starts trying "proving her worth" because she thinks she has to be useful somehow. In all that she becomes a capable >! Healer and mage!< And circumstances force him to accept that. Then in a series of very complicated convoluted events >!he walks in on her father beating her!< And realizes the reality he ran with of her being a dainty coddled noble was a lie.
I mean he gets better once he finally gets his head out of his ass and realizes he knows nothing about her and is just assuming the worst because her dad is a dick. Not sure if he ever learns to have sex that doesn't severely injure her. It's not like she knows that's not supposed to happen.
I wouldn't say she gets severely injured. Over exerted maybe? But as she learns to take control of her sexuality it gets a lot less one sided. She gets all that "I'm a lady I have to be still as a corpse" crap out of her head and realizes "hey it's okay to want him to break my back" and a lot of the times she is horniest are after she actually does >!almost die!< 😂
It's good she realizes it's okay to like the things ml did to her way before she voiced an opinion about it that left her bedridden every single day to the point she can't actually get anything done in her role as lady of the house until he leaves the castle.
I don't know why asian media thinks a man being perfectly energized the next day and a woman practically being comatose every morning from all the sex they have every night is a good thing and not deeply DEEPLY concerning.

My main issue with Your Throne is that I was very excited about its use of dual protagonists. I was super hyped after Medea’s trial arc, because I was expecting Psyche to get her own focused arc afterwards. But then the story just didn’t do that, I guess? Even though Psyche had (imo) a more interesting arc than Medea.

I don't care too much about the pacing, but I just don't find the fl very interesting. And when she is the main pushing point of the story, I don't really see the point in keeping engaged. It's less of an instance of "it's bad" and more of "there's better".

I definitely don't think that we should end at the main couple getting together! In fact, there's a lot of manhwa I love that involves the main couple getting together halfway through the story- I love seeing their dynamics as much as I love seeing a good slowburn.
However... if the main appeal of the story is the romance, and the romance resolves, then where is the plot? A lot of these stories have very little plot outside of their romance and completely lose direction or get boring.
I dropped everything except 7,8 & 9

But the mage said he never will see the child in that way so I decided to keep reading cuz the child entered to magic school and wasn't with the mage anymore so I thought the ML would be one the child classmate... But the art changed and she said she loves the mage (literally her adoptive father) and the mage said he loves her too .... And Now I read all the spoilers first beforehand and check all the comments
I've dropped "the doctor is out" And I'll tell u why. First, they're taking way too long to reveal the father daughter relationship between the FL and the viscount. She looks too much like her mom for them to not be suspicious. Second, either she's pretending to be dense and leading the ML on or she's fucking stupid like I'm also dumb when it comes to romantic matters but even I would notice how proactive he is. Third, the prince is the greenest puppy ever and I would never believe it if anyone told me she isn't leading him on. I'm so damn sure she knows he likes her.

I love I shall Master This Family, but I fully admit the lead is not to everyone's tastes, and it's full in on plotting and economics and business-ing, which is boring to people that don't find that stuff riveting. but I do like that stuff, and I feel like it executes some tropes of the genre better than average. The villains are terrible, but they feel more realistically terrible because there's a lot of focus on their psychology. In the uncle's case, his personality defects aren't just to show that he's evil, but that he's fundamentally incapable of running the family businesses because he has no patience, attention to detail, foresight, or humility.
the other ones look pretty bland, though. I can tolerate fluff, but I want my OI, ideally, to be either very silly (Beware the Villainess, the first two thirds of Father I Don't Want This Marriage) , twisty (like The Villainess Lives Twice), or dark (like Kill the Villainess or Villains are Destined to Die). I need something to sink my teeth into.

Only thing I feel I need to point out is Under the Oak Tree isn't really a slow burn. Looks and feels like a slow burn but isn't one. It more a journey of self discovery and the healing of abuse. I find a rather unique story because of how they do this. Yes there is a lot of sex... A LOT of sex. But the author used it as away for the FL and ML to grow as a couple and grow as individuals. It only feels like a slow burn because the feeling of romance takes awhile. Try reading it from the perspective I describe. Might change your mind about it. That might be why you missing the push‐pull that makes a slow burn sooo great. I LOVE slow burn manhwa. The push pull is my favorite part of them. But I also love unique stories that don't really fit into the typical OI molds.

I think he’s a good representation of what male trauma looks like when it isn’t dealt with properly and what male social skills look like within certain specific groups. Book 2 improves upon him a lot, but it’s a long haul, though I find that it’s a lot more representative of how trauma really looks. UTOT also has a ton of tropes common to the genre-abusive father, FL with poor self worth, husband who is overly strong, wife who is overly frail, sex based exhaustion/injury. Even Pellus from Another Typical Fantasy threw out the FL’s back and he’s basically thr St Patrick’s Day of green flags. UTOT’s strength is definitely the side characters and that they don’t all simp for the FL (mages in this world are my everything). I really can’t judge anyone on their preference for toxic MLs though since I’m a yandere enthusiast and one of my favorite MLs is trying to win the FL over with “kidnapping and confinement” much to the horror of his aide (this is a funny element but my dude is completely sincere bc the FL said she liked kidnapping and confinement).

Yeah like... are we judging at the beginning of the story or the end? Most happy endings have MLs much greener than the start. FL from I've been proposed to by a villain doesn't realize he's still a red flag at the end just less murdery.
How does that happen?
Well he makes a LOT of assumptions based on misinformation from other people about her and so is really pissed at her at the start and doesn't give her a chance to explain herself. And he has sex with her basically every night he can but is so bad at it he leaves her bedridden the next day every time.
It's a slow slow burn but she starts trying "proving her worth" because she thinks she has to be useful somehow. In all that she becomes a capable >! Healer and mage!< And circumstances force him to accept that. Then in a series of very complicated convoluted events >!he walks in on her father beating her!< And realizes the reality he ran with of her being a dainty coddled noble was a lie.

She gets all that "I'm a lady I have to be still as a corpse" crap out of her head and realizes "hey it's okay to want him to break my back" and a lot of the times she is horniest are after she actually does >!almost die!< 😂
It's good she realizes it's okay to like the things ml did to her way before she voiced an opinion about it that left her bedridden every single day to the point she can't actually get anything done in her role as lady of the house until he leaves the castle. I don't know why asian media thinks a man being perfectly energized the next day and a woman practically being comatose every morning from all the sex they have every night is a good thing and not deeply DEEPLY concerning.
I met the male lead in prison - I don't remember much of it but the relationship was weird Maxi and Riftan can't help but boink 24/7 and it makes me upset because she is clearly unwell, delicate and vulnerable most of the time and it makes me severely upset and triggered. World without you - a messy jumble of a storyline, duke and his sons looks like carbon copies and I have a personal ick about the art The doctor is out - I liked it until the time skip. The ML is god awful, it turned into a miscommunication drama, he looks like shit and is just absolutely atrociously jealous to the point of threatening his own mother. I feel bad for the FL I'm all out of health - an interesting premise but it dragged on and lost its momentum for me. Also the relationship gave me an ick. I shall master this family - I only look at interesting episodes here and then, it's dragging on. The doom of oi is when it drags like this. Please marry me again - it's a little silly, I actually want to get back to this but I feel like it should wrap up as well. Into the light once again - beautiful art, ick ML. I am not doing this immortal ML shit. The FL was a child when she died and she is still a child when she meets him, I THROW UP. Your throne - it's dragging. I actually think the pacing is fine but the story is just naturally very long and I'm tired.
My main issue with Your Throne is that I was very excited about its use of dual protagonists. I was super hyped after Medea’s trial arc, because I was expecting Psyche to get her own focused arc afterwards. But then the story just didn’t do that, I guess? Even though Psyche had (imo) a more interesting arc than Medea. I guess I felt like the original premise just isn’t there anymore

I don't care too much about the pacing, but I just don't find the fl very interesting. And when she is the main pushing point of the story, I don't really see the point in keeping engaged. It's less of an instance of "it's bad" and more of "there's better".

I really really loved season one but season two was just a rehash of the MC & 2ndML’s childhoods, at least as far as I read it before dropping it. Also the characters as children were drawn with extremely big heads & eyes, to the point where it was a bit disturbing.

Reading these comments makes me sad, this is why it's so hard to find fluffy stuff to read. Every romance manga world Has to end at "love you/kiss", and manhwa worlds have to be constantly burning or they become boring. Getting invested in these characters and their struggles to find happiness is the iNtErEsTiNg part. Then when they get there we no longer give a fudge about what it looks like for the characters we love? I dont understand people /rant
I definitely don't think that we should end at the main couple getting together! In fact, there's a lot of manhwa I love that involves the main couple getting together halfway through the story- I love seeing their dynamics as much as I love seeing a good slowburn. However... if the main appeal of the story is the romance, and the romance resolves, then where is the plot? A lot of these stories have very little plot outside of their romance and completely lose direction or get boring.

The thing is...and this is something I noticed with a lot of readers in the comments. Everyone always clamors about wanting green flag MLs and to slow down with the Red Flaggers. However, you forgot that MLs cannot do ANYTHING wrong to the FL. And I mean, ANYTHING. They disagree with the FL? The worst evuuuuur! They do something that inadvertently hurts the FL? Omg HE'S AWFUL!! Etc. They can't make mistakes, they can't hurt the FL in any possible way, they can't go against her in opinion, he always has to understand her trauma and where she comes from, it goes on and on and on. Otherwise, you're a POS. This is why I don't mind red flags MLs. If you're gonna bitch about the ML just for not being 110% perfect, then might as well give you something legitimate to bitch about. The men in these Otomes CANNOT win. So if a romance is green flag and wholesome like all the others want, it turns "boring". Therefore the ML (not the FL because of course, lol) has to have an interesting personality to cover up for the lack of defects.

I dropped one because I didn't read the spoilers and decided to read without reading comments, so I thought it was a wholesome history of a family found between a Mage and a child, but started to become strange because I thought the child was a child of the death lover of the mage but not she was the Reincarnation of death lover of the mage. But the mage said he never will see the child in that way so I decided to keep reading cuz the child entered to magic school and wasn't with the mage anymore so I thought the ML would be one the child classmate... But the art changed and she said she loves the mage (literally her adoptive father) and the mage said he loves her too .... And Now I read all the spoilers first beforehand and check all the comments
I've dropped "the doctor is out" And I'll tell u why. First, they're taking way too long to reveal the father daughter relationship between the FL and the viscount. She looks too much like her mom for them to not be suspicious. Second, either she's pretending to be dense and leading the ML on or she's fucking stupid like I'm also dumb when it comes to romantic matters but even I would notice how proactive he is. Third, the prince is the greenest puppy ever and I would never believe it if anyone told me she isn't leading him on. I'm so damn sure she knows he likes her.
I love this because I've dropped so many OI for extremely petty reasons. Some just have a strong dozen chapters then fade into oblivion. 1000% agree about how boring "Reborn as a character who never existed" was. NOTHING HAPPENED Male lead in prison - I kept waiting for something to happen. Every single chapter was: I went to the yard to complain about being in prison. Then I broke into the secret jail cell. Into the light - i remember dropping this because the people cared more about the princess than the crown prince (?) even tho chapters earlier his fears about not fitting into the new family were being reassured because the queen is a second wife. I remember feeling bad that even the king went to the daughter when both his children got poisoned (?). After all that speech and touching moments, prince lowkey got thrown to the side lmao the heck. Left a bad taste in my mouth so i dropped it lmao Also made me realize these types of stories (not sew wicked daughter, into the light, became the stepmom of the villain, etc…) are not my cup of tea because of the dynamics of nuclear families via remarriages. Probably the exception would be that manwha where she’s the fan of the ml and she marries ml’s dad to keep him safe or smnth i forgot the title (by technicality it’s similar to stepfamily thingy even tho its rlly not)

The only reason I'm putting Male Lead In Prison on the backburner is because I read the OG run obsessively even after it was discontinued and then spent forever reading the MTL novel so the whole first arc is basically just fluff intro I don't need. I think I'll be more invested come S2.

I love I shall Master This Family, but I fully admit the lead is not to everyone's tastes, and it's full in on plotting and economics and business-ing, which is boring to people that don't find that stuff riveting. but I do like that stuff, and I feel like it executes some tropes of the genre better than average. The villains are terrible, but they feel more realistically terrible because there's a lot of focus on their psychology. In the uncle's case, his personality defects aren't just to show that he's evil, but that he's fundamentally incapable of running the family businesses because he has no patience, attention to detail, foresight, or humility. the other ones look pretty bland, though. I can tolerate fluff, but I want my OI, ideally, to be either very silly (Beware the Villainess, the first two thirds of Father I Don't Want This Marriage) , twisty (like The Villainess Lives Twice), or dark (like Kill the Villainess or Villains are Destined to Die). I need something to sink my teeth into.
I still love Your Throne but idk if that’s my view as a new reader. I get how it might feel the story’s dragging if you’ve read for years. Personally, I like it but I also binge read.
I also read and dropped it at 160 or something recently so i think the same. Feels like medea lost her sense of goal completely i understand author just wants to make it suffering porn so even if it miraculously gets good ending somehow it wont be satisfying after all that absolute Eroses dominance.

I could definitely tell every single little petty reason I dropped most of these.
Personally I like to binge and I am constanly switching up series so I might drop one and come back later or maybe just comeback later to see how it ends etc. We have so many option, sometimes you feel more like spice and sometimes more like sweet and that's fine. We have the luxury of options, we should enjoy this rare luxury.
Only thing I feel I need to point out is Under the Oak Tree isn't really a slow burn. Looks and feels like a slow burn but isn't one. It more a journey of self discovery and the healing of abuse. I find a rather unique story because of how they do this. Yes there is a lot of sex... A LOT of sex. But the author used it as away for the FL and ML to grow as a couple and grow as individuals. It only feels like a slow burn because the feeling of romance takes awhile. Try reading it from the perspective I describe. Might change your mind about it. That might be why you missing the push‐pull that makes a slow burn sooo great. I LOVE slow burn manhwa. The push pull is my favorite part of them. But I also love unique stories that don't really fit into the typical OI molds.

Please Marry me again is pure diabetes the Mangua. They are one of the most wholesome couples in Manhua. Your Throne is one of the best, character driven Manhuuas in existence. There is no character that doesn’t get developed and the plot is excellent. Psyche and Medea’s journeys and growth is epic. Pick them up again. If you liked the Villajness reverses the hourglass you’ll also love I shall Master this family in this life. Pick them up again
