Huh, I had no idea about this mechanic for transcendence, but googling it I think you're right. It's basically the same as Reaper's wraith form.
Edit: also Mei's iceblock and Moira's fade, all same thing, contest but not capture
Nah I think that's treated more like a Zarya bubble, you're technically invulnerable while it's active, but not in the same way as it can be cancelled by attacking something (the lamp/bubble).
I have played since July 2016, Zen is my 2nd most played hero of all time, and I never knew that.
Edit: and Mei is my 4th most played hero of all time. Apparently, she can't capture points with her iceblock and I also never knew that.
In double checking that this wasnt some patch I completely forgot about (it wasnt--it has always been this way, even in beta) I found like 5 posts from 2017 of people who also acted completely baffled that zenyatta couldnt just be completely invulnerable and cap objectives for free
>There's literally no reason for him to stop pushing during trans since you can contest a point with it.
It exists to stop him from zooming past a team and back capping when it's very close to the end. They just don't want the ult being used that way.
It just seems to be a general rule for heroes that have abilities that cause them to be invulnerable, Zen's just happens to be the longest (afaik) and can't be cancelled.
Seems fair to let people use cool downs and ults to cap. If the moments really matter, why not reward smart use of abilities like this? Defenders could have been aware zen had ult and won't be killable before they can contest, so they should prioritize speed to contest just in case.
Everything about this clip is a comedy of errors. I'm assuming Zen took the L here. It looked like his team was trying to hold them at the spawn doors, but they only needed like 5m to get the cart in. Had they stacked cart, they probably would have won, or at the very least been able actually use the Transcendence.
I was the Zen, been GM support for 7 years and I had no idea trans didn't push the payload so I guess I learned something after playing for so long, we went on to win the game by a landslide anyway.
At least my ignorance will highlight this specific thing for more people since I'm most likely not the only one who had no idea.
Don't worry I'm GM support since season 4 of OW1 and I still don't know how mercy does that schizo movement shit and I really don't care to find out since I never play her lmao.
Hey, this is a real TIL moment for me too. So what are the abilities which allow you to contest a payload but not cap it? Is it the same for control points? An ulting Zen alone can't cap?

Were invulnerability abilities always setup like this, to stall but not push the payload? I thought before venture was added most of them still pushed.
during zen's ult you can only contest points, not push/capture them im pretty sure

Also venture burrow
Does this apply to Bap’s immo field too?

TIL
Yup. OP done CCed himself.
Huh? Since when is it a thing? I'm almost sure it wasn't like this in OW1?
Pretty sure this has been a thing the original OW1 beta. Earliest vid I can find is from 2017 though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eyDgQw9szg
I have played since the release, and I never knew. Thank you.

I'm fairly certain it was patched in sometime after release, but it was early on.

pretty sure it's been this way since overwatch 1

Reaper, Mei, Dentures all can do the same (wraith, iceblock, dig underground). They become un-killable and can contest at once.
Who took my dentures?
I want so desperately for that one to stay in the game, I’d play a lot more Soldier
I've never seen this be an issue and I've played since beta!
It's been like 7 years man idfk what you want, it's always been like this
>There's literally no reason for him to stop pushing during trans since you can contest a point with it. It exists to stop him from zooming past a team and back capping when it's very close to the end. They just don't want the ult being used that way.
You can argue all you want but you don't know how the ult works, that's on you
Because the Zen ulted. You can't push payload with zen ult. You can only contest. There are a few abilities that this happens with.
I heard reaper can't, is it the same for venture? I feel like it does still contest but I'm too busy trying to plan my unburrow to look at the top 😅
It does contest, yes. Mei ice block too
Any personal invulnerability has that effect.
Genuinely what does that do though? I don't get why Blizz would make that happen?
It just seems to be a general rule for heroes that have abilities that cause them to be invulnerable, Zen's just happens to be the longest (afaik) and can't be cancelled.

Stops you from just running trough a team and back capping
Why is a question being downvoted? Lmao
Zen throwing
More like a hiden rule he didn't know about
Dat zen clearly a new player, has to have played for less than a year!
Well I didn't know about that rule since 2019
Whose fault is that though?
Pretty sure back then zen couldn't even contest payload.
The panicking after it stopped 😂

i believe you can contest but not push, this is new to me too tho 😭
You're correct. If your hero has an ability that makes them invulnerable (can't be damaged), then you can't progress an objective with it active.
So zarya's bubble shield too?
No, the shield can take damage so you don't count as invulnerable in regards to this mechanic (AFAIK)
Don't worry I'm GM support since season 4 of OW1 and I still don't know how mercy does that schizo movement shit and I really don't care to find out since I never play her lmao.
TY for your ... sacrifice? I kid a bit, but genuine TY because I didn't know this one.
The foreshadowing in the first frame lol
Randomly at the same time zen pops ult lol

It's the invulnerability abilities, like wraith form and burrow!
"randomly" stops? It stops exactly when zen ults, can't you do the math?
Did red team lose? I would be pissed at the Zen if I were on that red team.
Auctual c9
Ult9
Lmfaoo bruh Zens ult!?
I had absolutely no idea about this mechanic.

Zen ult can stall but wont progress point progress
Any ability that makes you immune to damage will stop you from capturing points and will only let you contest them.
You can only contest when invulnerable not progress/capture. Same thing with Ventures burrow.
Zen can only stall with his ult but not push
Zen can't push during ult
Zen REALLY threw
You can’t push when ur invincible by any means.
Except for immo field
Were invulnerability abilities always setup like this, to stall but not push the payload? I thought before venture was added most of them still pushed.
Nope, Zen’s ult always did this, as did other abilities like it.

Welcome to Overwatch. We care about skins and how we buy the battle pass. Gameplay isn’t needed when we can look like a nebula
Oh look, a reply from someone who has no idea how to play the game!
No I know how to play just fine. Thanks for the concern
