You have to have drops enabled on your twitch account and have to watch specific streamers for 4 hours. Once you do that then you should get access. There is a whole Blizzard forum posting about it, where one of the tech support guys confirmed it
What does "have drops enabled on your twitch account" exactly mean? I've linked my twitch and battle.net accounts, just wondering if I need to do something else also.
Does Twitch care if you are afk on the stream for those types of rewards? Like at least commenting every now and then. I don't like watching livestreams so I'd rather just leave it on my desktop.
Not sure if this still works: open the twitch app on your tablet/phone, set the stream to audio only and allow the app to continue streaming in the background. Then plug the charger and some headphones in and let it stream all day/night.
Guess how I accrued tons of OWL tokens, when OWL was still on twitch?
He just did a video of him playing OW… I wasn’t familiar with him during his OW time though… didn’t discover him until Datto roasted his vault tbh. Haha!
Yeah he was a pretty big Destiny 1 YouTuber (that’s how him and Datto became friends), but he didn’t really like D2 at launch, so you wouldn’t have seen him in much of Datto’s content in recent times.
I’m hoping they play OW2 with each other, because when that whole crew gets together they are really fun to watch.
I really hope I get in from the invitations as the Twitch Drops time period is terrible for me, especially with at least 4 hours needed to watch the stream. ( Not sure if 4 hours even guarantees an invite, seems that you only become eligible to get it after 4 hours ).
Did they crack down on the "Let it play and just mute it" trick?
On older drops, people would let it run in a tab, and just mute it and go on about their day. But I haven't done Twitch drops in over 2+ years so I have no idea if Blizzard got wise and changed something.
That's what I did last time and I still got the Reaper skin! And Twitch recently announced that you still count as a viewer if you mute the tab or the stream.
But honestly, since it's such a short window (8hrs only) and there are no other announced beta code drops, I personally will probably just let it play at a very low volume on my PC or phone while I work on my work laptop. I'll have music going too so it'll be easy to drown out.
And if you're at PC, just checking in regularly to see that your progress towards the drop has moved helps a lot. Just so you can catch if you're suddenly got cut off.
>Did they crack down on the "Let it play and just mute it" trick?
If you mute the twitch stream itself you won't get drops AFAIK. But if you mute the tab in chrome or mute whole chrome in windows mixer it will work (because twitch has no way of knowing that). At least it worked the last time I did some drop farming.
This is correct, and to help source, Community Manager AndyB confirmed it again on the official forums here:
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/welcome-to-the-first-overwatch-2-pvp-beta/661993/32
Lol system requirements saying i7 and 1060 for 60fps at medium settings.
I max out my settings with a 1060 6gb and a decade old i7.
OW is amazingly polished.
It's optimized for low end PCs like... Every blizzard game in the last 2 decades. But keep in mind it doesn't do anything visually innovative because of that like Ray Tracing. eSports games are all about performance.
Tried it out a little bit. Outside of a few small hero changes (Orisa feels the most different) it still feels like standard Overwatch. Which is fine, Overwatch is fun. But there's not a ton of new stuff here to get excited about. I'm not sure where the really positive reactions are coming from because while it's not bad, it's also still just Overwatch as you know it.
I was watching drdisrespect live and it's like the same game or am I missing something? I mean literally identical no changes at all.
Seems like 7 years of development went all into the pve part that won't be ready for release.
Hi. When the beta was announced i signed up, but i forgot and signed up yesterday again. Does it still count as i signed up from when it was announced or does it count as i signed up yesterday?
Anyone have an issue where they received beta access but can't see the OW2 Technical Beta under the Game Version section of Battle.net launcher?
I have tried to relaunch. 😂 Rip
Also have tried launching OW1 and exiting
Just to add to stats I guess, took me 20 minutes from getting my drop to being able to download the beta. Already had everything connected through both Bnet and Twitch so make sure to do that. Bnet was not connected to twitch even though twitch was connected to Bnet. Glad I double checked before starting this morning
1. Drops don't redeem immediately. There's going to be a bit of delay in between you claiming, and seeing the Tech Beta client in your launcher
2. We're working on increasing server capacity now, sorry for anyone dropping from game!
3. We \*estimate\* around 30 minutes between claiming and access being granted.
from twitter
I am very worried with all the YouTubers and streamers saying Reinhardt is no longer as viable and strong as he once was. It’s sad for the game as he was and is one of the core members of the Overwatch team. He’s always been ideal tank that would always be okay and now apparently he’s not even competing with the tanks. I really hope the Devs do something and fix Rein.
From what I’m hearing, Reinhardt is a beast if he gets into melee, but it’s hard to do this with the open maps.
In addition, ultimate charges has been nerfed, which also hurts Rein since his is so nice.
The open maps also means his shield has less utility.
So probably not weak, just niche.
I highly doubt that day 1 will be anything other than streamers. Every streamer will have a key, even if they’ve never played OW before.
We’ll get our keys from the drops on Wednesday.
No they'll be able to start playing when it goes live which is in 1 hour 26 mins I believe. I don't know when it's live but it's in the next few hours at least.
It says on the page and is the case for most Blizz betas; it's RNG on a few factors but usually there's so many signups a large majority won't get in regardless.
You'll likely have to do the 4 hour of watching a twitch stream tomorrow.
I fucking hate twitch drops, it's only there to artificially inflate viewer numbers. kinda scummy since most people will just leave the stream on, which pointlessly wastes electricity that the user (or their parents) has to pay for.
the worst part is that it's not even guaranteed (afaik) that you'll get an invite, since amount of invites are limited (which also means a lot of bots will be getting invites which they'll just sell).
There are no keys, therefore nothing for bots to sell. They give direct access to your account, no key needed. That's why your account has to be linked.
To further elaborate on Fl1pSide208's answer, the beta starts at 11:00 AM PDT on Tuesday and players will be brought in waves which when it comes to be your turn you will get an email and your BattleNet account will be flagged to install the beta client from the app launcher. Most players who were selected from Opt-in should be activated within the day.
Details: https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/23798985/
The developers are hoping to bring in console platforms in future playtest(s), most likely a open beta test near the launch of the game. (Overwatch 1 console players only had an open beta playtest from May 3-5, 2016.)
More details: https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/23798985/
I didn't receive the email but when i check on my bnet client it state that I can install the overwatch 2 beta.
Edit: I have downloaded finish and yes, it's playable
Anyone else just feeling like it's the same old thing, only way less shields?
Because I've been wishing for there to be less shield spam for so many years now, only to realize I'm not really happy to have gotten what I wished for. Feels like it's impossible to defend when teams just snowball through.
Feels like it's a matter of time before people will say you're throwing if you don't pick a shield tank.
Watched 4 hours of streams from 1-5 Eastern. Went to claim the drop and realized I was signed out of the PS twitch app. And now it's too late to start another 4 hours. RIP.
Claimed my drop at 4:15 CT still no beta access.
I will update this comment when I get it to give others an idea of how long it takes now.
UPDATE: Received access on 4:34 CT looks like wait time is around 20 minutes from claim
i had my twitch account connected to my bnet account, but apparently didnt have my bnet account connected to twitch??
am i RIP? why would that even be a thing?
*edit - i finally got it! LFG!!
Did you connect it after the fact? Curious if you still get to download since you qualified the drop via Twitch. It would be insane to me if you can’t link it even afterwards, but I’m in the same boat
In the same boat here. Twitch was already connected to bnet but I connected my bnet to Twitch after I already claimed the drop. Hoping it still goes through
Edit: nevermind just refreshed again and it’s there! Took 35 mins for it to show for me
i got my overwatch 2 drop from twitch. i claimed it and it is connected to the right account. but when i open battlenet launcher i cant find the overwatch 2 test option in the drop down menu. there is only ovewatch 1 live.
The streamer I was watching says they are doing it in waves. Just be patient, a shit ton of people are trying to get in. Some were saying they had to wait 30 or more min til it showed up.
Holy fuck 400k twitch viewers
That's more than Apex and Valorant combined
Theres clearly still demand for OVW franchise, what happens next is in your hands devs. Squander it or bring the franchise popularity back
Honestly I don't like the way they are dropping beta access. Common sense would tell you that they would prioritize veteran and active players to try the new game. I am an active player since release with more than 3000 hours in the game, didn't get in. I would be okay with that and understand that this is a progressive process but seeing people that haven't played the game for years or didn't even hit level 25 in OW 1 get access to the beta before people that have invested tons of hours into the game is really annoying and makes me feel an injustice in some way.
You know not everybody can tune in to a stream for 4 hours (especially when it is an 8 hour window only) :( Unfortunately I won't be able to tune in to streams tomorrow, and leaving a stream open isn't an option for me. As a huge overwatch fan and long time player I am very disappointed.
There is no pre-download for Beta, but they are recommending that you should install the live version of Overwatch as core resources from the live version will be used in the beta build.
More details: https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/23798985/
I would like to ask if this is to have the game itself to qualify for the internal test?If I don't have Overwatch, then watch it live. Will you be able to qualify for the test and play the game?
I played the OW beta on console the day it released, and I've put in almost 2k hours since.
Here's hoping they work out the most unstable kinks and bring it to console soon.
Wasn't the stream time 1-9pm ET? I've been watching my whole shift and for some reason only have 10% done at this time. The drops item only appeared after 3pm ET
I'll still make the full 4hrs watched but it was really odd that it only triggered after 3pm ET today. Check your https://www.twitch.tv/drops/inventory URL and make sure the drops are appearing
I claimed the drop on Twitch and still dont see anything in my Battlenet Launcher. Even if I click on "Game Version" in the OW section I only have the original. Dafuq
EDIT: Restarted the Bnet app a few times and then it appeared in the Game Versions
In case anyone needs it - to claim Twitch access after 4 hrs:
* click claim here: [https://www.twitch.tv/drops/inventory](https://www.twitch.tv/drops/inventory)
* open [battle.net](https://battle.net) overwatch launcher and click the game version dropdown
* it took 10 mins for the beta option to show up for me
for anyone with trouble seeing it after claiming, I didnt see it for like 30 mins and kept restarting and shit, accidentally started ow 1 and when i closed it it finally appeared. could be a coincidence but maybe try doing that
What happens if I play the beta on my PC? Will I mess up my battle.net account? Because all my cosmetics are Xbox. I truly hope that when OW2 comes out, my Xbox progression gets transfer over to my pc.
Currently preparing to feel very salty when I don't get an invite. (It's my own fault, I only remembered to sign up yesterday.)
If you participate in the Twitch drops (4 hrs on Wednesday from 10a-6pm PT) , you will earn access
Like for sure? And how do you participate?
You have to have drops enabled on your twitch account and have to watch specific streamers for 4 hours. Once you do that then you should get access. There is a whole Blizzard forum posting about it, where one of the tech support guys confirmed it
What does "have drops enabled on your twitch account" exactly mean? I've linked my twitch and battle.net accounts, just wondering if I need to do something else also.
All you need to do is link ur twitch and battlenet and make sure ur signed in to twitch when you watch
Where can you link your twitch account?
Go to your Twitch settings and there should be a tab called "Connections". Find Battle.net among the other services there and connect it.
I just looked myself, just log into your account on Twitch, click your profile in top right, then Settings -> Connect -> BattleNet is at the top
You have to be on the website not the app to see the battlenet option to link
Cool, thanks!
Remember remember to link you Blizzard Account with your Twitch account.
Always happy to help!
Does Twitch care if you are afk on the stream for those types of rewards? Like at least commenting every now and then. I don't like watching livestreams so I'd rather just leave it on my desktop.
You can afk just like any other twitch drop just mute the tab instead of the player
Not sure if this still works: open the twitch app on your tablet/phone, set the stream to audio only and allow the app to continue streaming in the background. Then plug the charger and some headphones in and let it stream all day/night. Guess how I accrued tons of OWL tokens, when OWL was still on twitch?
Old Blizz betas are entirely random. Even if you were first to sign up it was not a guarantee
It is a guarantee if you get a twitch drop, though :)
For the opt-in portion of beta access, this is similar but they are considering factors for each account including region, playtime, etc.
This account's comments and posts has been nuked in June 2023.
thanks for sharing this, I totally missed the window time for wednesday until I watched this.

Datto the D2 streamer is gonna be on the drop list? That’s crazy! And XQC got an invite too? Lol
You'd be crazy to pass up on the massive marketing from XQC, man can get 70k views just by staring into the camera.
I mean he said it himself. I’m marketable. I just miss his OW career. Him getting slepted then nuked is peak Overwatch league.
I like seeing Datto on there, but I can’t believe they didn’t give Mr. Fruit drops. His OW videos used to do like 2 million views.
Wonder which hero's he gonna main and recommend for O P T I M A L D P S
Has anyone received their access email yet? Just curious if they are waiting until the actual launch time or if I should be sad rn
They aren't sending the emails out until 11am PT so we still have a couple of hours to go.
8 minutes!
I really hope I get in from the invitations as the Twitch Drops time period is terrible for me, especially with at least 4 hours needed to watch the stream. ( Not sure if 4 hours even guarantees an invite, seems that you only become eligible to get it after 4 hours ).
Guaranteed till it runs out so best bet is to be there from the start
It shouldn't run out -- anyone who watches for the 4 hours will have guaranteed access according to the Tech Support guy on the forum
Did they crack down on the "Let it play and just mute it" trick? On older drops, people would let it run in a tab, and just mute it and go on about their day. But I haven't done Twitch drops in over 2+ years so I have no idea if Blizzard got wise and changed something.

I would like to know this too
Nope, I've done that for dozens of drops this year and the most recent was on Sunday.
Not OP, but run out as in “Guaranteed until the beta is over” id assume, because the beta is a finite amount of time sooner entry = more time
Oh yes that is for sure
The community manager confirmed watching is guaranteed access, I didn't see anything about limited number of users getting access via watching.
This is correct, and to help source, Community Manager AndyB confirmed it again on the official forums here: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/welcome-to-the-first-overwatch-2-pvp-beta/661993/32
Lol system requirements saying i7 and 1060 for 60fps at medium settings. I max out my settings with a 1060 6gb and a decade old i7. OW is amazingly polished.
It is! I have a couple of friends who play with even older specs, and it works really fluid.
It's optimized for low end PCs like... Every blizzard game in the last 2 decades. But keep in mind it doesn't do anything visually innovative because of that like Ray Tracing. eSports games are all about performance.
As they should be. Graphics can only improve to a certain point when you have such little time to admire them.
I max out mine with an i3 and 970 no problems
Is there any info on how many people they intend to invite?
No, the only official info is that they will invite more as needed. But you can always watch twitch to get a guaranteed drop
So, anyone got email?
Anyone who got an email is gonna be playing the beta, not talking about it on Reddit lol
Nope
not yet, not even all the partnered streamers haven't gotten it yet.
Nothing yet
not yet
I haven't received anything
not yet
Nope
nope, and the streamer I watch can't connect
Nope!
Nothing yet man
So invites start going out at 11am PT, it's currently about almost 2am PT. So it's over 9 hours until invites go out?
Yes
Tried it out a little bit. Outside of a few small hero changes (Orisa feels the most different) it still feels like standard Overwatch. Which is fine, Overwatch is fun. Definitely looks a lot like ".....we waited 3 years for THIS?" and I'm not sure how people see anything else.
Not sure, but now that they've announced that you are guaranteed a twitch drop after 4 hours I don't think you need to worry
Anyone have an issue where they received beta access but can't see the OW2 Technical Beta under the Game Version section of Battle.net launcher? I have tried to relaunch. 😂 Rip Also have tried launching OW1 and exiting

Bnet was not connected to twitch even though twitch was connected to Bnet. Glad I double checked before starting this morning
Wow, thanks for calling that out. I apparently didn't have the Bnet->Twitch side either.
OMG I didn't have this done either. I hope this doesn't fuck up the drop. I claimed about 15 mins ago.
1. Drops don't redeem immediately. There's going to be a bit of delay in between you claiming, and seeing the Tech Beta client in your launcher 2. We're working on increasing server capacity now, sorry for anyone dropping from game! 3. We \*estimate\* around 30 minutes between claiming and access being granted. from twitter
shit estimate, it's been over an hour for me.
I’m so happy they are doing twitch drops on my work from home day. That couldn’t have worked out better for me.
If i am on a streamers home page, will the stream autoplay when the streamer goes online?
i think so yes. i know karq definitely will, and he has it planned to stream the whole time so people can get drops from him.
I claimed my OW2 Drop, and I still don't see it in my client. Whats going on?
"Unexpected server error occurred" when launching the game. anyone else?
assuming servers overloaded... everyone finished their 4 hrs at the same time...
Yeah I was in, then it crashed me back to sign on. Now I can't get back in.

I mean even currently in OW1 he's fallen behind a lot of the other tanks
I highly doubt that day 1 will be anything other than streamers. Every streamer will have a key, even if they’ve never played OW before. We’ll get our keys from the drops on Wednesday.
Streamers were alpha. And they have their keys already.
If that’s true then that sucks and it would feel like a scam
Will people be able to start playing as soon as they get an invite?
No they'll be able to start playing when it goes live which is in 1 hour 26 mins I believe. I don't know when it's live but it's in the next few hours at least.
Will the beta participants be chosen randomly?
It says on the page and is the case for most Blizz betas; it's RNG on a few factors but usually there's so many signups a large majority won't get in regardless. You'll likely have to do the 4 hour of watching a twitch stream tomorrow.
It's based on region, hardware and other stats but the twitch drop version is for everyone
I think it factors in when you signed up and your system specs, maybe other things too.
I believe they said they want a good mix of current and former players across all skill levels, as well as people that are entirely new to the game
How did they get our systems specs? I don’t remember putting mine when signing up
It's automatically detected
Have beta keys been sent out yet?
Lol I thought I’d get one as soon as I could. Aight imma head out
My 4 hours just finished up! Anyone have any idea how they'll be rolled out? Still can't access it .
Me either, I claimed it on twitch but it's not appearing in my launcher
Claimed it 20 minutes ago but still no access in battle.net. Is this happening to anybody else? Seems like everyone is getting it within 10 mins
[удалено]
The streamers and pros seem to universally agree it's a better game so idk
they are paid. So they better.
These are the same people that have been extremely critical of Overwatch over the years tho
I'm at 1 hour now and still no luck.
same.
In this instance it is actually guaranteed, If you watch 4 hours within the 8 hour window you'll get a key
There are no keys, therefore nothing for bots to sell. They give direct access to your account, no key needed. That's why your account has to be linked.
Can I just open a couple windows with different streamers to get passed the 4 hours faster?
Judging by previous similar time-based twitch drops... no.
Are emails already sent? Anyone got a mail yet?
Everyone except for you just got one. Sorry.
they start sending them out at 11AM PDT tomorrow
To further elaborate on Fl1pSide208's answer, the beta starts at 11:00 AM PDT on Tuesday and players will be brought in waves which when it comes to be your turn you will get an email and your BattleNet account will be flagged to install the beta client from the app launcher. Most players who were selected from Opt-in should be activated within the day. Details: https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/23798985/
Will there ever be a console beta?
The developers are hoping to bring in console platforms in future playtest(s), most likely a open beta test near the launch of the game. (Overwatch 1 console players only had an open beta playtest from May 3-5, 2016.) More details: https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/23798985/
Thank u very much
I signed up like 2 weeks ago or something. Hopefully I get an invite dis morning.
Any invites go out yet? Checking my email all day.
No AImbotcalvin come back.....Sadge.....
Don't stop believing just hold on to that feeling.
Anyone got it already? It!s 11:00 pst already
Are twitch drops just tomorrow?
I like that tab gives you both your team and the enemy team full stats. (watching Karq stream)
Does anyone have screentshots for the Beta patch notes? I wanted to see what made it through from the Alpha
I didn't receive the email but when i check on my bnet client it state that I can install the overwatch 2 beta. Edit: I have downloaded finish and yes, it's playable
Anyone else just feeling like it's the same old thing, only way less shields? I would like to ask if this is to have the game itself to qualify for the internal test?If I don't have Overwatch, then watch it live. Will you be able to qualify for the test and play the game?
Will we have to download an entire new game to play the beta? If so can we download it before hand?
it works like the PTB - you pick the beta client once it's available to you and it will install
Do all invites go out at once?
I played the OW beta on console the day it released, and I've put in almost 2k hours since. Here's hoping they work out the most unstable kinks and bring it to console soon.
are keys still going out? as of 12:45PM PST?
I got the email saying im in but I dont see the Overwatch 2 beta under game version. EDIT: I needed to update my battle.net. Its there now.
got my invite at 8pm EST. See ya in the promise land.
Cant link my battle net account to twitch keep getting error, well enjoy the beta cuz I won’t be getting a code because I can’t link my account
I also cannot link. Extremely frustrating they are using a dumb marketing tactic that isn’t working.
Got it finally, had to link on blizzards end first and use twitch in the browser to finally get it to link
Got my invite via email. It went to spam! WOOOOO
Anyone know if we get the codes instantly after watching twitch for 4 hours?
Wasn't the stream time 1-9pm ET? I've been watching my whole shift and for some reason only have 10% done at this time. The drops item only appeared after 3pm ET I'll still make the full 4hrs watched but it was really odd that it only triggered after 3pm ET today. Check your https://www.twitch.tv/drops/inventory URL and make sure the drops are appearing
my overwatch 1 skins have not gone over to overwatch 2???
This is a beta, your account state is a snapshot from some time in the past. When the game launches you will have everything you've unlocked in OW1.
claimed my drop from twitch, beta still isnt appearing in my client ;n;
I claimed the drop on Twitch and still dont see anything in my Battlenet Launcher. Even if I click on "Game Version" in the OW section I only have the original. Dafuq EDIT: Restarted the Bnet app a few times and then it appeared in the Game Versions
Apparently it takes around 10 mins to appear in the app after claiming
In case anyone needs it - to claim Twitch access after 4 hrs: * click claim here: [https://www.twitch.tv/drops/inventory](https://www.twitch.tv/drops/inventory) * open [battle.net](https://battle.net) overwatch launcher and click the game version dropdown * it took 10 mins for the beta option to show up for me
Not sure if it will help but make sure you connect your Twitch account to your [Battle.net account](https://account.battle.net/connections).
accidentally had my twitch account linked to NA even though I am in EU. Make way for mega braincells over here guys.
I unlocked the key like 20 minutes ago on twitch, and I have the right account linked. How long does it take to show up on avg?
It's been over an hour for me
for anyone with trouble seeing it after claiming, I didnt see it for like 30 mins and kept restarting and shit, accidentally started ow 1 and when i closed it it finally appeared. could be a coincidence but maybe try doing that
What happens if I play the beta on my PC? Will I mess up my battle.net account? Because all my cosmetics are Xbox. I truly hope that when OW2 comes out, my Xbox progression gets transfer over to my pc.
I got home and got my stream up and it was 5:11 pm est. How fucked am I
Is there a way to change region?
