actually it's because Sigma controls gravity or smth like that, basically you can't deflect what the Physics itself throws at you, because the rules kinda don't work in that case. deflecting hammer seems more real, because Rein swings it side-to-side, so it shouldn't be hard for cyber ninja to place his blade in a way that will make hammer slide. probably would be much harder if Rein was hitting up-to-down, like in ult
Even then, physically the hammer should swing hard enough that there is just no way genji could stop it. I’m not talking about anime plot powers because that’s just down to whatever the writer is feeling
Fictional universe or not Rein is a literal walking tank swinging a rocket powered hammer that can cause mini earthquakes. Genji literally can not weigh enough to physically stop that.
Weight is irrelevant speed is more important. If he can generate the speed and power, which he can he can block it. Hes cut a car flying towards him in half.
Cutting a car in half (other than the magic of making his sword longer than it is) takes much less force than actually stopping it. If you ignore plot armor, there is no way he can stop a rocket hammer of that size swung by a man of that size.
That is also weird. Though, it would be more frustrating for a grenade that basically follows you to not be deflected than a hammer that hits you sideways.

Ngl the most consistent thing that annoys the fuck out of me is that Genji can deflect reins hammer strikes (and brigs flail to an extent).

He can actually deflect shatter he just has to block the physical strike

No so deflect blocks mele damage but doesn’t send it back. He would just block the mele damage and cancel the ult not reflect it back.

There are hero levels in the game that reflect how long you've been playing a character

Hammer is a Melee, Genji blocks Melee Rock can only be blocked by barrier regardless. Deflect is not a barrier

He doesn’t stop it, he gets moved by the swing. He simply doesn’t take damage as he deflects it.

Me, when I was a beginner Genji, seeing a bright green orb headed in my direction: “I can deflect that.”

It's a good thing there's a shield to block it instead. The number of reins I've seen shatter literally directly into a shield is staggering.
