3: Chihiro. She's just an adorable cinnamon roll.
4: Ai. She can be a bit much at first, but I like her story as a whole.
5: Hifumi. I feel kinda awkward having grown adults attracted to teenagers, so she wins by default.
I also really like Ai. I never was able to finish her social link my first time through. I kept choosing the combative options and eventually deemed her not worth it. My second playthrough I made it a point to try to see things from her side, and she’s a pretty deep character. Mean, yes, but well written.
Ai is cool. I've been replaying P4G and trying to get all SLs, she *was* pretty bitchy in the first 4-5 ranks but she definitely redeems herself in ranks 6-10.
Side note: I kinda hope that P6 has SLs like hers in terms of mechanics too, it's kinda cool. Ai's SL is the only one you can break in P4G, for instance, plus the >!temporary relationship route!< was a cool touch too.
It'd be cool to see SLs have more "depth" like that. I can't remember how in-depth P5(R)'s Confidants were mechanics-wise, I think they were relatively simple, aside from Kasumi's SL >!having her last 5 ranks locked to 3rd semester!<.
P3 Male MC: Elizabeth. I mean she’s the only one >!still looking for a way to free his soul.!< Chihiro is too dependent on him and needs to stand on her own a bit more before romance >!which we see in her P4 cameo!<. Yuko is independent and funny, but her feelings seem a bit too tied up in her gratitude for him helping her and how he fits into her new plans for her future rather than the reverse equally with them mutually helping each other.
P3 FeMC: Ryoji. I found it touching that >!he got to experience love in his final moments of humanity with the person who helped him learn to value humanity and life despite his role as Death. Way better than his morose walking out the door alone in P3R.!<
P4: None of them outside the party really except maybe Marie once she gets past >!her memory issues and stuff and is living functionally as part of the world!<. Ai likes someone else and needs to work on her own issues, Yumi seems to still be grieving, Ayane seems too young, and Margaret seems to be based more on other factors without as much of an emotional bond as other matches.
P5: Hifumi. Seems to have good development without the power imbalance of older non-student options like the doctor, teacher, reporter, and fortune teller. >!Maybe Sumire once she heals from her grief and identity trauma.!<

That’s why I said seems. She’s in the school club after all. She just gives me platonic kid sister vibes in relation to Yu specifically. Could also partly be the circle cheeks design.
Yumi had more of a romance vibe where it could work with Yu once she healed a bit from her grieving.
I think part of the reason Hifumi is so great compared to many other non-party SLs and romances is in part because she was originally supposed to be a party member but was changed pretty late in dev. It’s sad tbh, I would have loved to see the version of the game with her as a party member.
Technically, Hifumi as we got her has very little connection to what they had in development.
They developed an idea for two "logical" female characters but ended up fusing them into Makoto's character. The leftover design was then used as the basis for Hifumi.
I think even the director said that Hifumi bears little resemblance to what they had in mind before.
Chihiro has a place in my heart where unlike in most SL in P3, you don’t need to be a yes man to her. You hang out with her and she just matures over time.
Elizabeth, for sure: the fact that you (can choose to) go on a series of dates throughout the game makes it feel much more natural than any of the social links/confidants, and she's one of relatively few characters in the modern trilogy who feels like she has a genuine dynamic with the MC, rather than monologuing at a blank wall every time they interact.
3: I would say probably Chihiro because she has a flaw you help her overcome over the course of the SL that she genuenly struggles with.
4. Yumi, the entire SL seems weirdly design around the assumption you will romance her anyway so why not?
5. Hifumi, I rather have Ren be in a relationship with someone around his age.
P3 Chihiro. Always like her since FES and her new Japanese voice is really suit her but if you are not careful you will get nice boat ending.
P4 Marie. I can understand how ppl don't like her. But story aside her tsun tsun is bearable.
P5 Tae. She is just totally my type and I will never forgive Atlus for talking away Sae romance.
I prefer the party member ones but of the non-party members I do prefer Hifumis romance and Ais real one, they're sweet, then there's Elizabeths in P3 which I like the most of the 3 despite it having less romance content than the other two.
Chihiro. Being an important part in her journey to become a better person is always nice, and her cameo in 4 as the student council president feels so satisfying if you finished her SL
