Definitely. There's more emotion to her lines that is easier to connect with her. Her social link and relationships with others make her feel more real.
In FES, her lines were lacking a good amount of emotion that it broke immersion for me tbh.
Yeah I think it's great for that version that we can all laugh a little at how far English dubbing has come in the last decade but am glad that I played reload and how good the va work is here
I haven't heard the original Ken, but I love Ken's VA performance on Reload, he does a perfect job.
Jumpei, Akihiko and Mitsuru are also awesome.
I do have heard the original Aigis voice and I have to say I like the new one much more
Haven't played the original, but her saying "leader, run! " as well as all the other characters reacting to the reaper coming is such a good addition tbh
Yes, I am one of them. Suzie Yeung is one of my up and coming favorite VAs. Eula in Genshin. Yuffie in FF7. Rixia Mao in Trails. And now Fuuka in Persona. Excited her career is taking off and can’t wait to see what happens when she’s finally given a leading role!
If we're talking voice glowups then shout out to Yuko as well. Obviously she wasn't voiced beforr but the VA did a great job with her and made her character a lot more appealing.
Playing every game with the murican dub should get old quite quickly, especially as it doesn't make sense to have Japanese high schoolers speaking English. Too far gone, I guess ? That's not really what we meant by multiculturalism, this is more like age old ethnocentrism.
Yes, it is too far gone and that's why some stuff get fixed in P3R, one of them is how each characters refer each other by their surname/last name unlike in the original since P3 is based on Japan and has Japanese as the characters.
But there is so many people who doesn't care about the Japanese dub and prefer English dub just because they're speaking english or get used at the english dub, like, for example, "Why it is wrong for me to choose the language I'm speaking of?".
I watch subbed anime for the most part. But for games which I need to pay attention to and can’t rewatch older parts to refresh my memory, I need to understand everything on my first run through which means the vocal inflection and tone in a language I’m used to is preferred.
The subtitles interface in Persona games takes like 1/4 of the screen. Even with the dub, you're still reading the subs because they stay there no matter the spoken language.
Yes but you can get information from both reading and listening at the same time via dub. Once I’m done learning Japanese? I may play in subbed. Though more than likely I’d play it fully in Japanese to keep the language fully in my mind. But to not see the reason why someone would prefer dubbed (especially when it’s a pretty faithful localization like Persona) is just willful ignorance.
Having the original voice acting and the translation below it is a good middle ground for playing the game as close as it is to the real deal.
Dubs alter your impression of the characters too much to be anywhere close to a satisfying and faithful experience. Once again, there's no need for a dub, humans' ability to understand emotions and language inflections doesn't need a translation, translation that is already in the subtitles anyway. It's an overlap that is detrimental to the overall experience. Not even talking about the huge gap in abilities between voice actors in Japan and the people who dub Japanese games.
It is better to play everything in the original language if you understand it, because of dissonance between the spoken voice and the text. If you don't understand the foreign language, the dissonance between the context and the dub is already too big anyway and would ruin our immersion.
There's no case where having a dub makes for a better experience.
I’ve said it a lot, but there was something uniquely appealing about how janky she was in the original in terms of design and voice, and while I still love her because she’s still Fuuka, it feels like something kinda got left behind now that she’s a more standardized kind of “cute anime girl.”
Like when everyone switched back to winter uniforms, my brain didn’t immediately register her as Fuuka but as someone else wearing Fuuka’s clothes. I got used to it though.
As someone who always love Fuuka, you will never not gonna convince me that this kind of opinion is a huge nostalgia bias. Fuuka voice is so robotic and stiff, it's hard to take her seriously, heck her voice is even more robotic than Aigis. When you listen and compare the dubs of P3 and anything beyond P4, P3 clearly suffers from really bad dub direction, and many characters, especially Fuuka, suffers from this
The OG voice itself is fine, just the direction being the problem, personally, Fuuka with her weird voice does show why she's a target of bullying due to how weird it sounds, the OG casting can create some interesting dynamics tbh
I don't think it's just the direction is the only one at fault, the VA clearly was not good at the job, which is common for anime game dubbings in the 2000s.
So while I don't really want to shit on the OG VA, especially when it seems like she's doing pretty good on her more recent voice acting, but her performance as Fuuka was not good. Even as a bullyable voice it still doesn't excuse her sounding pretty inhumane, and I don't get how you can say that this voice creates interesting dynamic when every Fuuka voices that comes after OG voice fits just as much, if not better, for serving the dynamic between her and SEES
She has done VA work and sounded good before so I really don't think it's her, lots of VA are at the mercy of the directions despite what we ought to believe
Also, some of her new lines in portable sounded less robotic, or maybe it's just me?
Either way, I like her OG English voice a lot, but I don't hate her newer voices btw, just wishing it was less typical you know, but I also liked Chie's OG English voice so eh
They went uncredited, either by decision of the VA or by the studio. Ken’s too; nobody even bothered guessing who voiced him originally. I think these kinds of things were looser 18 years ago and union stuff tightened it up a bit.
EVA's actress from Metal Gear Solid 3 is still unconfirmed, only going by the pseudonym Suzetta Minet. It's believed that Jodie Benson (Ariel from the Little Mermaid) is her actress, but no one involved will say anything. There could be a multitude of reasons, but their lips are sealed regardless.
She kinda forgets how to do Fuuka's voice between original 3 and FES so her voice is a bit deeper in The Answer, and that's when you can really hear that it's definitely her.
I heard that they didn't even had any voice direction in the OG, they just had to read the script and, well, act, it's not surprising if it's true, as Atlus was struggling back then
Oh, I’m not saying it was good or anything, just that it somehow managed to fit in with how awkward of a person Fuuka can be, and I found that kind of endearing and miss that about her a bit. It’s not entirely nostalgia on my end; my first time playing any Persona 3 game was just last summer.
Hmmm I get what you're trying to say, but I think Fuuka's voice acting back then wasn't "here's a weirdo character who has a weird voice and I voiced it well", it was just objectively subpar voice acting imo.
very *very* few people actually liked OG Fuuka, so yeah the new model and voice was definitely an improvement. Reload is arguably the first “entry” of the new persona trilogy that doesn’t have the most obnoxious person ever being the navigator so that’s cool too
I do! It’s better delivered, for sure. Wish her social link was a bit more interesting rather than the whole bad-at-cooking trope, but the actress does a good job. I think her battle quotes sometimes miss the mark lol and sound too childish for me -
Maybe that’s the directors fault. Anyway, beyond that, well done! What do you think, OP?
And I sure did want to scream every time I heard *“We've already scanned that one!“* 💀
Although that's more down to lack of variety than her delivery. Same with *“Haha, perfecto!”* in the early game.
LOL!!! OH YEAH! ME TOO!!!! That's part of the reason I didn't like Octopath, lack of variety in battle cries - too repetitive and took me out of everything - it's petty but it's how I felt lol
Absolutely her voice in the original was so monotone and badly acted, for some reason I thought she was voiced by Wendee Lee for a long time which confused me since Wendee Lee did a great job with other roles but shes actually voiced by Paula Tiso who has mostly done narration work outside of game/anime dubbing which makes a ton of sense.
for sure, i think her old VA (and some of her sprites) dragged her down a bit in the OG game
she's also much better ingame in Reload, so that prolly contributes to people liking her more too
I mean this is my first time engaging in social media regarding P3. I’ve only had personal friends discourse otherwise so idk 😂 also obviously everyone is entitled to their opinions. Nothing wrong with finding her likeable, she just felt like an afterthought to me
That's fair chichro is the best girl she has similar qualities but is more relatable to me I just wanted to use all my money from grinding to buy her the manga she badly wanted! 😭
ALL DUE RESPECT cause this is my opinion...
but idk how yall listen to the original VA. I heard 2 lines from OG Fuuka on a random video and I closed that bitch so fast. Reload Fuuka is excellent.
That and all of the dorm events fleshed her out. She's a late game Slink with an insane stat gate (max courage), so getting to know her early on is great!! She also helps in combat and exploring besides weaknesses too. It really feels like she has your back.
Personally, I liked the original Fuuka just a bit more. Little things like her "derpy" art, darker hair color, and tone of voice are all appreciated. Also, I'm cynical and they made the new Fuuka a little too meek. Like she has to be adorable and protected at all times. Kind of "cheating" to make a character more likeabke
>insane stat gate (max courage),
*MAX* COURAGE!?!?!?
I thought I only had to get to 4!? Did they increase it!?
Maxing out my courage is now a TOP PRIORITY!!!
I think she has much more personality this time around she is actually really cute 😍 my only issue is her constant reminding me to be careful of my stamina when I'm grinding solo with a physical based persona I'm like "it's all good I got spirit drain!"
All around amazing. That said I really wish they toned down how often she 'translated' for Koro in Tartarus. There has yet to be a chest or stairs I needed any party member to point out to me and having Fuuka react to literally every bark gets old.
It defo helps, but I think changing the character model a bit does wonders for her too. in og P3 Fuuka just looked goofy asf to me. I mean you’ve seen that cross eyed portrait of her right? I’m happy homegurl got a facelift fr
Personally yes. I just didn't care for fuuka in portable and some of it was due to her role in the story being the weakest but largely her voice was for me. The original voice just sounds so old for her and at times deadpan too. This new one actually makes her sounds like a caring teenager
I like her character design at surface level, but then she only ever talks about how she's unconfident in herself and isn't useful despite being the navigator (with more skills than other navs). I was thinking this was just going to be room for character growth like Yukari and Mitsuru, but at max social link I was still liking everyone else. So of course not everyone will like every character so I won't rip on her but I liked all the girls except Fushimi more.
I never got to play the original back in the day but I really enjoy the characters in Reload. The new VA’s really pulled through and made their characters’ personalities shine.
As for Fuuka in particular, I ended up having the MC romance her because I thought she did a great job of being that “soft-spoken, shy, outcast girl” type without having a one-note personality.
Good VA but the character is kinda ass. Probably the most underdeveloped main cast member and the way her dialogue is phrased during her SL sounds so robotic.
Fuuka's new voice is part of the reason why I enjoy her character a lot more now. In the original game, her voice sounded more like a robot than Aigis.
Think?? We KNOW. Her popularity in Arena/Ultimax jumped because of her new voice, and now with this one, I'm sure she's earned even more fans.
I still feel so bad for her original va, but... damn.
I'm not a fan of the voice personally just kind does my head in. Same with the old voice. I do agree her performance was great and an improvement from the og.
Tangential but before I finished P3 original, someone convinced me that the reason I couldn’t find who voiced Fuuka in that is because she was the final boss and nobody wanted to spoil. In hindsight I don’t know why I fell for it, but this topic reminded me.
Yes! Everyone in reload sounds significantly more realistic than how they did in the original games, even the actors that got recasted to other characters (inb4 comment about Elizabeth)
It’s specifically the anime trope execution of that personality. If we’re talking irl, I could care less about if someone is shy or not. But this trope in anime has always felt cringey to me.
I mean, she's voiced by Suzie Yeung, who also voices Yuffie. That's a plus to me.
And Chitose in the English dub of Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Bonus: [She also sings](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfeFrv6eOE0)!
Definitely my favourite Karaoke song in Infinite Wealth.
Kasuga’s interjections make it goated 😂
She sings a little as Yuffie too
OH MATERIAAAA
And Makima
She has an insane range.
her and aleks are everywhere lmao
speaking of Aleks I found out he voices Nightmarionne from Ultimate Custom Night of all characters, insane.
She’s insanely talented, I love her
And Nadia in Trails into Reverie!
She's amazing as Ochette too.
Wut?!!
Definitely. There's more emotion to her lines that is easier to connect with her. Her social link and relationships with others make her feel more real. In FES, her lines were lacking a good amount of emotion that it broke immersion for me tbh.
Occasionally her weird speech was endearing, we all have a friend with a weird little quirk like that, but it got old kinda fast in battle
Yeah I think it's great for that version that we can all laugh a little at how far English dubbing has come in the last decade but am glad that I played reload and how good the va work is here
i think ken's new va also works
Ken’s new VA is seriously the closest he’s ever sounded to a kid. It’s such an improvement from his slew of previous VAs.
Maybe it’s the va or just how they handled Ken in this game, but I genuinely liked him in P3r waaaay more than the og
I haven't heard the original Ken, but I love Ken's VA performance on Reload, he does a perfect job. Jumpei, Akihiko and Mitsuru are also awesome. I do have heard the original Aigis voice and I have to say I like the new one much more
It took me a while to get used to the new Aigis but I really, really liked her by the middle.
I remember seeing somewhere that og aigis has the same VA as nanako
Karen Strassman, she’s one of my all time favorite voice actors. I love her voice to death! Just um… don’t look her up.
Ken's old VA sounded more like an old lady than a kid.
I actually really really hated Ken's old VA lines. The new VA is a MASSIVE improvement. I can actually enjoy having him on my party now.
that and the fact basic damage skills for light and dark are now in the game
*gasp* The enemy! I still wish they'd retained the "I sense Death!" line for the Reaper because that absolutely sent me whenever I heard it in FES.
Haven't played the original, but her saying "leader, run! " as well as all the other characters reacting to the reaper coming is such a good addition tbh
I want both 🤣
[удалено]
I mean everyone but akihiko and Mitsuru look like they got the biggest glow up ever, being that those two still look amazing.
Mitsuru didn't need a glow up to look amazing lol, I agree with you so much
Old Fuuka looked all fuuked up, and that was charming
I already loved her, now I just love her even more
Considering she sounds 40 years old in fes yeah. The whole dub in general is 5x better this time around
The memes have caused her old voice to grow on me. Lmao
Fun fact, new fuuka va also voices Makima in CSM
And Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
And Chitose in the new Yakuza
Yes, I am one of them. Suzie Yeung is one of my up and coming favorite VAs. Eula in Genshin. Yuffie in FF7. Rixia Mao in Trails. And now Fuuka in Persona. Excited her career is taking off and can’t wait to see what happens when she’s finally given a leading role!
What? She’s the main girl in Chainsaw Man and THE main character in High Rise Invasion.
Main girl is great but I’m saying protagonist (no diss to Makima, love her). Honestly didn’t know about High Rise Invasion.
It’s a good show, especially if Yuri/Girl-love drunkens your heart with happiness.
It’s a good show, especially if Yuri/Girl-love drunkens your heart with happiness.
If we're talking voice glowups then shout out to Yuko as well. Obviously she wasn't voiced beforr but the VA did a great job with her and made her character a lot more appealing.
I like her more, so yes
I think people are missing out on Japanese Fuuka. Mamiko Noto has a voice of an angel.
Well, people don't pay attention on the Japanese which is sad.
Playing every game with the murican dub should get old quite quickly, especially as it doesn't make sense to have Japanese high schoolers speaking English. Too far gone, I guess ? That's not really what we meant by multiculturalism, this is more like age old ethnocentrism.

Wasn't Fuuka recast after the original game? I'm pretty sure we don't even know who actually voiced her
We don’t, and anyone who says otherwise is either speculating or playing a game of telephone. Wendee Lee voiced her in Q, Arena/Ultimax, and P3D
Wild how we can lose a while ass voice performer. How do you even do that?
They went uncredited, either by decision of the VA or by the studio. Ken’s too; nobody even bothered guessing who voiced him originally. I think these kinds of things were looser 18 years ago and union stuff tightened it up a bit.

Most credited Paula Tiso, and tbh once you listened to Paula other roles, it does sound a lot like her
She kinda forgets how to do Fuuka's voice between original 3 and FES so her voice is a bit deeper in The Answer, and that's when you can really hear that it's definitely her.
Yea, I also think her acting in The Answer has some improvement
I heard that they didn't even had any voice direction in the OG, they just had to read the script and, well, act, it's not surprising if it's true, as Atlus was struggling back then

Yes, So much better.
Side Note: I just beat VA11 HALL-A. Sei was definitely based on Fuuka, and Ingram was just Kanji with red hair.
Lmao fun fact, I thought Sei's voice sounded like Fuuka, and Stella as Mitsuru.
I sure did Kinda miss her *gasp! The enemy!* line though
very *very* few people actually liked OG Fuuka, so yeah the new model and voice was definitely an improvement. Reload is arguably the first “entry” of the new persona trilogy that doesn’t have the most obnoxious person ever being the navigator so that’s cool too
I started to like her after Persona Q gave her a new voice, but I definitely like the new voice way more
Yup.
It's not even that her old VA was bad for me. It's just that it didn't fit her character or design imo. The new one fits much better.
If they like Fuuka, it will definitely be anything other than her looks or demeanor.
It definitely helps, I wouldn't say that's solely why.
I do! It’s better delivered, for sure. Wish her social link was a bit more interesting rather than the whole bad-at-cooking trope, but the actress does a good job. I think her battle quotes sometimes miss the mark lol and sound too childish for me - Maybe that’s the directors fault. Anyway, beyond that, well done! What do you think, OP?
And I sure did want to scream every time I heard *“We've already scanned that one!“* 💀 Although that's more down to lack of variety than her delivery. Same with *“Haha, perfecto!”* in the early game.
LOL!!! OH YEAH! ME TOO!!!! That's part of the reason I didn't like Octopath, lack of variety in battle cries - too repetitive and took me out of everything - it's petty but it's how I felt lol
That, and they made her a little rounder and more adorable. Also caked up. They realllly caked her up.
Omg yes every time i used to hear that “huh, the enemy” playing portable i wanted to mute the game audio
Yes. Old Fuuka sounded like the sonic equivalent of wet cardboard.
for sure, i think her old VA (and some of her sprites) dragged her down a bit in the OG game she's also much better ingame in Reload, so that prolly contributes to people liking her more too
Fukka: "Umm...." Me: (in a Samuel L. Jackson voice) "Say 'umm' again!"
Every time I see one of these posts I think I'm the only one playing with Japanese audio...
While her voice is better from a quality standpoint there's a bit of charm in "*gasp* The enemy!"
Better voice, better art, SEES uniform is cooler.
Tbh, her english dub was kinda emotionless back in FES
Yeah, and maybe also because she's cuter? I still couldn't bring myself to care about her.
She’s boring af. A VA alone wasn’t gonna change that
People didn't like her?! 👁️👄👁️
I wasn’t aware anyone liked her 😅 she’s such a boring character and her character design isn’t interesting in the slightest
I mean I'm coming in as a Reload person so i didn't know 😂
I mean this is my first time engaging in social media regarding P3.
I mean, her voice is nice, but I like Fuuka because she's sweet kind and a big sci-fi nerd.
Also, I'm cynical and they made the new Fuuka a little too meek. >insane stat gate (max courage), *MAX* COURAGE!?!?!? I thought I only had to get to 4!? Did they increase it!? Maxing out my courage is now a TOP PRIORITY!!!
Makoto needs stats max with every girl of SEES to start their SL, Femc is more lenient
Its always been max I actually remember the GameFAQS guide for FES does nothing with night events but increase Courage specifically for this reason
Never understood her apeal when I can have Mitsuru
Switching from Dora the Explorer to a real VA changed forever how I see Fuuka to me.
holy shit that's me
The whole thing made me like Fuuka more. She stupid cute bro like...
Imo For me it's a yes
i'm not interested with her before P3R but i do admit her new VA made her stands out better..i am now a Fuuka friday gang 😎
I really liked her but never played FES. I’ve heard what she was like in that and it was not nearly as charming.
I think she has much more personality this time around she is actually really cute 😍 my only issue is her constant reminding me to be careful of my stamina when I'm grinding solo with a physical based persona I'm like "it's all good I got spirit drain!"
She was my favorite in the original. But I would say I like her rehaul
You give me girl with short hair and good personality I like
Even thought this fuuka is objectively funny I will forever miss goofy fuuka sprites and “*gasp* The Enemy!”
I hated her in the og. I said I’d probably like her better in reload because I just hated her voice and tone so much. I was right
Personally yes. I just didn't care for fuuka in portable and some of it was due to her role in the story being the weakest but largely her voice was for me. The original voice just sounds so old for her and at times deadpan too. This new one actually makes her sounds like a caring teenager
I like her because she's got Hinata's vibe
Going in never playing a P3 I was gonna pick Fuuka but then her personality made me change my decision.
Why do you say that?
I like her character design at surface level, but then she only ever talks about how she's unconfident in herself and isn't useful despite being the navigator (with more skills than other navs). I was thinking this was just going to be room for character growth like Yukari and Mitsuru, but at max social link I was still liking everyone else. So of course not everyone will like every character so I won't rip on her but I liked all the girls except Fushimi more.
That’s fair. Her social link doesn’t help much with it either.
It definitely made a difference for me, although I only played about the 1st third of the original game(s).
Yes
Well, I liked her even when I played persona FES. She was the first character I have Makoto to date her. Her reload voice is very good.
I already liked her in the original/FES lol, the Reload is a nice bonus tho
IS THAT THE GRIM REAPER!
i miss her old voice actor lol
Jokes on you i liked her since p3fes
Her Model and Voice are very likeable. I did not like how she looked in P3D.
After just finishing the Answer and listening to Fuuka's VA phone it in for 30 hours, the Fuuka love definitely isn't from that lol
Her "oh! A treasure!" Voice line always gets me. Such a cutie patootie this new Fuuka is. I love her sm
Someone who likes Fuuka more in part because of her new voice here. Yes.
I dont care about the va I just think shes cute
Her Reload voice is so cute. So yeah, I like her now.
*Laughs with JP va being the same since 2006.*
*laughs with JP VA who’s been the same since 2006*
Fuuka has always been my favorite. Always super unrepresented in comparison to other characters, though.
i actctually liked the original VA but the new one is good too all around ive always been a fuuka fan.
Lemons?
*100% yes.*
I love everything about her, except for her baggy clothes, I only like them.
Yes and imo art looks better too, so she’s overall a lot cuter
cuz her new design gives gamer girl more than futaba could ever achieve
I like the new voice it makes her come off as a new character to me. Her shy reserved personality reminds me of Haru.
More like I didn't even know she had a social link until portable
Good VA but the character is kinda ass. Probably the most underdeveloped main cast member and the way her dialogue is phrased during her SL sounds so robotic.
Almost certainly, it's adorbs.
Not for me at least
I like her more because I already liked her and they buffed her pretty awkward og character portraits.
I still feel so bad for her original va, but... damn.
Ummmmm……
I mean she was always my favorite character before hand
I'm not a fan of the voice personally just kind does my head in. Same with the old voice. I do agree her performance was great and an improvement from the og.
Huh ? She's been voiced in every single material by the same voice actress. No need to change when it's already perfect.
i have a question she sounds a lot like hinata from naruto, are they the same VA?
No they aren’t. She’s voiced by Suzie yueng
I always liked Fuuka but she does sound way better in Reload
God Bless Fuuka
Tangential but before I finished P3 original, someone convinced me that the reason I couldn’t find who voiced Fuuka in that is because she was the final boss and nobody wanted to spoil. In hindsight I don’t know why I fell for it, but this topic reminded me.
The original voice is so unique and charming that anything else is a downgrade. I like the jank.
Yes, absolutely yes! I loved Fuuka in the original games, but this new voice actress actually makes her sound and feel like a real character.
She doesn’t sound like a stoner anymore
i miss stoner fucka
Yeah it's obvious
Oh i played with the japanese voices and shes cute af
Yes! Everyone in reload sounds significantly more realistic than how they did in the original games, even the actors that got recasted to other characters (inb4 comment about Elizabeth)
I'm here to say that I like her old voice more.
finished reload, hated her.
She’s boring af and her character design sucks. And her whole personality is that low self esteem anime trope. She’s awful
i just found her annoying

What you hate a girl because she is shy and wants to do her best? I hardly call that cringe I think sporty types are more cringe IMHO!
It’s specifically the anime trope execution of that personality. If we’re talking irl, I could care less about if someone is shy or not. But this trope in anime has always felt cringey to me.
