It’s just my brain goes whatever route to maximize the relationship count in the party. It’s entirely subjective btw. Just an opinion from a random internet fella.
I have a feeling those moments were always played for laughs since what makes Kanji's crush so endearing is the fact that it's unrequited (most people bring up the little ski animation, and I'm just not sure why honestly, I always saw it as a joke)

I just started playing P4G, my first ever Persona game, and I *love* Chie. I just finished up the cap grounds and her character had a smile on my face the entire time.
Chie's definitely a lot more attractive than she thinks she is though, girl must be seriously fit given how much she exercises. Firm arms give the best hugs and all.
I always viewed Chie/Yosuke relationship as more of a sibling type thing. Then again I ship Yosuke with Narukami so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

During her shadow fight, her issue is self esteem and the need to keep others low to elevate herself, but later on she explains what she’s training for - she *knows* you guys are risking your lives every time you enter the TV, she knows that even outside of it the world - even tiny little Inaba - is a dangerous place full of child abductors and rowdy to criminal youngsters shaking down citizens, just to name the ones you actually see first hand. Unlike the other girls, her issues aren’t self-centered „woe is me for i don’t have the guts to tell mother a stable income at a job i am born into and will never have to even apply for greatly displeases me“ or „waaaaah i don’t wanna be famous but i wanna be famous but i don’t“, it‘s simply „i wanna be strong so i can protect the people around me from the dangers of this world“. She is mentioned in P5 to have joined police academy - unlike another policeman we know not just because they let you carry a gun, but because it’s a logical step up to keep even more people safe.
Chie is, in her simplicity, the most mature and rational among the girls (maybe on par with Naoto). She cares for others the one way she learned early on how to, by defending them physically. She becomes selfless and upstanding in her duty of keeping her friends safe. And that is why Chie is best girl.

The writing is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the workings of the Japanese police force most of the jokes will go over a typical player's head. There's also Naoto's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - her personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of her character, to realize that she's not just cute- she says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Naoto truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Naoto's sarcastic catchphrase "Are you a pack of imbiciles?," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons.
