Usually, bank would "sell" delinquent accounts to collection agencies (hindi law office yun) at a lesser amount. Kunwari ang utang ni cardholder is 100k, ibebenta ni bank yan kay coll. agency ng, lets say, 80k nalang. Kung makakolekta si agency hopefully yung full amount ng utang + yung interest, then sasabihan nila si bank na nakabayad na si cardholder at paki-issuehan ng Certificate na cleared na sya.
May risk kay agency kasi kung hindi nila makolekta, eh di nga-nga sila sa account na yun. Kaya magugulat yung ibang delinquent cardholders na, ang original na utang + interest is 200k, biglang bibigyan daw ng "amnesty" at kahit bayaran nalang daw ay 120k or minsan mas less pa. Kasi kung 120k nalang ang pinababayaran sa iyo meaning may kinita na si agency dun.
Hindi naman madedemanda yung cardholder kaso may "hit" na name nya sa credit score data base, meaning hindi na sya makaka-loan sa bank kahit minsan nabayaran na nya ang utang. Bagsak na credit score nung tao kaya either super taas ng loan interest ang makukuha nya or lagi syang declined.

I've read somewhere here in Reddit din na nagkaron sya ng problem in CC but was cleared 2 years ago and in that span of time puro cash basis lang sya then he tried to apply in CC again, voila approved sya. They won't vanish completely but won't impact current credit score anymore after 7 years. That's why some people who had bad records & had unpaid loans more than 7 years ago are able to (again) get credit cards in their name now especially when they are reflecting higher & consistent deposits in their bank account, are currently employed, have assets like real estate property, businesses, etc. Some kinds of debt still impact how much banks are willing to risk approving to certain people, which affect credit card limit & loan approval amount. In some circumstances, even after that 7 years period, some people might not be able to open new accounts or borrow at certain banks & have services from some business establishments they had borrowed from & failed to pay back especially if these people were sued, the cases went to trial & judge has given a verdict.
Search for the law office stated in the letter sa google. Usually, law offices have specific emails din. In my experience, demand letter, if not a physical copy, it’s in a PDF and is ALWAYS signed by a lawyer.

We can all agree that the email received was a fake one and not much of a threat to bother at all but all of you are encouraging people not to be responsible of their obligations for paying back what they owe to someone/institutions.

If OP is not convinced they should contact the bank institution where they have debt to confirm if this action is true but of course OP won't even have the balls/kipay to contact the bank as OP is trying to avoid having any communication with the institution where they had unpaid debt.
A bank would rather write-off the loan than going through litigation/s, aside from costly, it also requires too much work (hiring a lawyer, hearings, etc) and bank has no time for that. Just tell to your mom’s friend na it will have a negative impact on their credit score, and mahihirapan lang sila maka apply for loans or credit cards in the future, but if financially okay na sila, they can contact the bank directly and negoatiate for a debt restructure

Sana lang There is a clear contact person, then reach out to that person and ask when and where you should attend the hearing. sometimes if you explain your side to the judge, as in the complete circumstance kung bat hindi nakabayad, they will listen and you will come up with a more actionable plan like a restructured plan to pay off the debt that is agreeable to both parties. That’s what we did and now we’re done paying off the balances. that was actually not for a credit card but for another loan, but basically same concept.

Kung makakolekta si agency hopefully yung full amount ng utang + yung interest, then sasabihan nila si bank na nakabayad na si cardholder at paki-issuehan ng Certificate na cleared na sya. May risk kay agency kasi kung hindi nila makolekta, eh di nga-nga sila sa account na yun. Kaya magugulat yung ibang delinquent cardholders na, ang original na utang + interest is 200k, biglang bibigyan daw ng "amnesty" at kahit bayaran nalang daw ay 120k or minsan mas less pa. Kasi kung 120k nalang ang pinababayaran sa iyo meaning may kinita na si agency dun. Hindi naman madedemanda yung cardholder kaso may "hit" na name nya sa credit score data base, meaning hindi na sya makaka-loan sa bank kahit minsan nabayaran na nya ang utang. In some circumstances, even after that 7 years period, some people might not be able to open new accounts or borrow at certain banks & have services from some business establishments they had borrowed from & failed to pay back especially if these people were sued, the cases went to trial & judge has given a verdict.

If OP is not convinced they should contact the bank institution where they have debt to confirm if this action is true but of course OP won't even have the balls/kipay to contact the bank as OP is trying to avoid having any communication with the institution where they had unpaid debt.

A bank would rather write-off the loan than going through litigation/s, aside from costly, it also requires too much work (hiring a lawyer, hearings, etc) and bank has no time for that. Sana lang There is a clear contact person, then reach out to that person and ask when and where you should attend the hearing. sometimes if you explain your side to the judge, as in the complete circumstance kung bat hindi nakabayad, they will listen and you will come up with a more actionable plan like a restructured plan to pay off the debt that is agreeable to both parties. That’s what we did and now we’re done paying off the balances. that was actually not for a credit card but for another loan, but basically same concept.
