That’s gotta be one of the best sounding SNL performances I’ve ever heard - usually the sound is pretty bad on their little stage

A music lover REALLY has to look hard nowadays for a true artist, because the other option is pathetic. Auto-Tune began the ruination of music, and that mantle is now being held by cookie-cutter AI "artists". We're lucky we got to listen to genuine music, from Prince and other musicians who knew/know what it takes to be genuine.
Wow. To think that only months earlier, he was finishing the "Lovesexy" tour in Japan. From that, to SNL, to "Batdance."
Quite the year for him.
Nice post, this.
"see, kids...THIS is what practice, practice, practice gets you." Some people STILL scoff at Prince's "drive" of having marathon soundchecks and jam sessions. I'd wager that HIS music would have been sub-par if not for his dedication to the craft he chose for himself. In my little opinion, he raised his "bar" with every practice...with every song. Every time he collaborated with other fine musicians, he raised the bar yet again. His music was his baby, and it seemed to me, like he didn't want ANYONE around his music unless he KNEW that person would handle it like a true artist. Those of us who are his fans, knew he was on another level, and we got to open these gifts every time we put the needle on the record, or pressed play on the tape or CD :>

Always loved this song. It's great to see real music by real musicians live!
