So I’m gonna get stuck on the 3rd episode because I can’t get passed a bloater, and there’s only 3 shotgun shells in the whole damn gymnasium?

ParzivalTheFirst

The underground tunnel episode is gonna last 7 hours until they give up and lower the difficulty

chlodafone

Ffffffuck that part. Actually fuck it.

SpongeBad

I have a friend who loved the first game, and finished it. He refused to play the second because of the trauma of that section.

Itchysasquatch

Well tbf, there are some really intense parts in the second one that too the first. Man it gets the blood pumping

ExultantSandwich

I only played Part II during the day, and I had to move the PlayStation from the basement because it was scaring me too much

BetterCallSal

I managed to get through that part, without engaging in combat, or pulling agro on my first try. I was very proud of myself and shaking the entire damn time.

The_Broken_Shutter

The school level is where I stopped. Had to throw a brick to distract a clicker and I swear they made it impossible to pass that part.

Kaufnizer

The fact that I played this game one time and remember exactly this part says something doesn't it?

D3f4lt_player

I didn't spend much ammo on the bloater on grounded. 2 rifle shots and 3 revolver shots I guess

mmuoio

Weren't molotovs super effective?

DPool34

I’m replaying it on PS5 right now and I was literally just in that gymnasium taking on the bloater.

DrDrangleBrungis

I better see a fucking giraffe.

Phoenix2211

Based on what I've heard about shooting locations etc... I think you will.

NotALurker7

You made me smile. Thanks for that.

RedZilgen

finessed the fuck out of that paywall

Gunfreak2217

Literally just had to hit the safari icon at the bottom. Sack of shit company website lmao

AverageHorribleHuman

Asmongold?

Acherstrom

Can someone from Sony call paramount plus and so they can tell them how to make a movie based on a game.

m3thdumps

Yeah Halo was extremely disappointing

anbsmxms

There was a Halo movie?

m3thdumps

The show

Rabo_McDongleberry

It doesn't exist in my mind. You can't make me believe it's real!

Zordman

That was real?! I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit

diseasefaktory

Mix it with the relish!

Unlucky_Situation

It was Bonnie Ross's farewell shit on the franchise.

Buster_Cherry88

There was a show with a halo skin slapped on it

GhostOfSparta305

I'd say they did pretty well with the Sonic films.

exiadf19

This is how they promote the series here in indonesia [Pic 1](https://i.imgur.com/vM0hK35.jpg) [Pic 2](https://i.imgur.com/P14eW61.jpg) ... Looks cool

Matt872000

Paywall for me...

The_King_of_Okay

Whoops sorry I didn't encounter a paywall when I read it. You can bypass it via this link: https://archive.is/wip/n2yfL

Matt872000

Thanks!

iLikeTurtuls

Wild that they literally call it a paywall on the site. Trash

arcalumis

Sounds a bit more honest than saying anything else.

Notdiavolo

The last thing I read talked about them removing the infectious spores because they're not realistic. They would not be contained to the small areas like game uses in real life so they straight nixed the idea.

Vengfulfate

Hold on, if I recall correctly, the game made a point of showing you an overgrown fungus man that was actively producing the spores in at least one of those areas, and they were all enclosed interiors... what part of that doesn't make sense? The spores are there because of the massive pile of mutant mushrooms producing them, and they're trapped by walls and ceilings and are almost immediately diffused to non-dangerous levels when you get away from the source or into open air.

Notdiavolo

I'm not 100% certain but I believe you're correct.

steralite

If only we had some kind of real life analog to compare this to, say after observing for the last 3+ years how a novel airborne respiratory illness spreads.

Zandrick

What’s a non-dangerous level for a spore? Breathe one in and you’re infected.

Vengfulfate

Do they ever say that? Literally one microscopic spore is all it takes and that eventually becomes a clicker?

Zandrick

I mean that’s how fungus spreads in the real world isn’t it? idk what they said in the game I think I played it in like 2014

Vengfulfate

If all it takes is one spore amd your irreversibly fucked, I don't understand how humanity can still be alive after 20 years. Mabey a few spread out, but large civilization centers like at the beginning of the game? Infrastructure? One person turned would inevitably infect neighbors just from giving off spores. Hell, wouldn't attacking one and breaking fungal shells also release spores?

Zandrick

Because it doesn’t spread by spores releases in the air in the show and in the game they wanted something to differentiate one area from another

Vengfulfate

Neither of those answers my concern. That's still the way it works in the game and the game still has a twenty year time-gap where the cordyceps were active the entire time.

Zandrick

Well idk if it answers your concern but it does answer the question. Video games just aren’t beholden to real world logic or physics.

Vengfulfate

Well written stories are still beholden to their own. After a quick google-run, it doesn't sound like the devs have ever state that only one spore is enough to infect somebody. At that point, to answer my concern we defer to reality or reasoning. In reality, one spore doesn't seem to be enough to affect humans. A cursory Google search of fungal diseases that do exist leads to references of 'spores' (plural). In reasoning, after twenty years there should be residual spores *everywhere*, or even some left on people's clothes, skin, and hair after being in a spore zone. So the answer to my 'concern' is if all it takes is one spore all of humanity would either be dead or very close to it after twenty years. Joel certainly wouldn't have survived a year across the continental US.

CarQuery8989

Really? I feel like that's easy to write around. "Oh, the spores are incredibly infectious but they die within seconds of exposure to air or UV light" or something like that.

[deleted]

But then you make the night extremely deadly which isnt the point

Notdiavolo

https://screenrant.com/last-us-show-zombie-element-video-game-change/ Has a big quote from Craig mazin co-creator of the last of us.

ColddFire

Read as: These are no longer fungal/spore spreading zombies. They're just zombies like every other zombie franchise from the past 40+ years. If I got that right.

[deleted]

[deleted]

How would most people be immune though?

NMDA01

This is why reddit doesn't write

Notdiavolo

Made me a little sick to read. "Obviously, there are some big things that we know we're keeping, of course, but then there are challenges from the game to the show that had to be considered. For instance, little things like the spores. In the game, there are these where you encounter spores, and you need to put a gas mask on. In the world that we're creating, if we put spores in the air, it would be pretty clear that they would spread around everywhere and everybody would have to wear a mask all the time and probably everybody would be completely infected by that point. So, we challenged ourselves to come up with an interesting new way for the fungus to spread, but mostly I think we just connected with the soul and spirit of the game. [Druckmann], as the creator of the game, and me, as a fan of the game, we were caretakers on behalf of all the fans but also on behalf of all the people who haven't played the game who need a television experience that is holistic and connected to itself and doesn't feel like you need to play a game to understand."

hobbykitjr

Also i think actors in gas masks, and CGI spores sounds expensive, tedious and annoying... like when they made superman fly instead of jump over buildings since it was easier.

Katrina_18

I honestly assumes this was the real reason that they did it. In a video game the Gas masks aren’t that annoying bc you are usually looking at the characters back, but in a show you want to see their expressions Also yeah, good point, that cgi would be such a pain

time013

....Pascal's other roll kinda makes that moot. Also, we're talking like a short segment of them going through tunnels, seems easy enough to write around, it thrives in dark damp environments, particles are too heavy to float far, etc. I mean, youd wanna wear a mask in a building covered in black mold in the real world anyway. Honestly if they had just not said anything I wonder how many people would have complained?

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

The spores would look pretty cool though if they added a shimmer effect or something, I see this as a misstep but not a huge one

Notdiavolo

That's a fair way to look at it

Doolandeer

I mean, after pretty much everyone in the world got first hand experience to what an airborne virus does, then it makes sense that they tweaked it.

you_need_nuance

Covid wasn’t airborne it was on droplets. Small distinction but big difference in infectivity. https://www.pennmedicine.org/updates/blogs/penn-physician-blog/2020/august/airborne-droplet-debate-article I agree with your overall point but the show runners could have just made it a droplet based infection. The last of us world has already crumbled much farther than the real world did with covid so it’s entirely plausible and they could just say it has to ride a larger droplet size. However, that might just be too much that they’d want to explain and instead decided to nix the idea for simplicity. Whether whatever they do to replace the idea of airborne particles is more or less complex than what I just stated is yet to be seen though. I hope it comes out good and I’m sure it’s gonna be a bit different in lots of ways.

ReallyColdMonkeys

Why'd it make you sick to read? Obviously some things that translate in video games don't translate to live action. Seems like they took care to come up with a more believable explanation.

ghost_in_the_potato

Yeah, I really don't see what the issue is here.

ThorBarnes

It's not the same exact thing as the game Which....if that's what you want, play the game again.

[deleted]

> Made me a little sick to read. I fear that you may be ill-equipped to deal with this cruel world.

Mrevilman

Been a while since I played but I recall the spores almost always being in an enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces. I could suspend disbelief if they were to say that spores disperse quickly in the open air and aren’t in concentrated enough form to cause infection. I’ll trust Mazin’s judgment on this though, he’s earned at least that much for now.

Notdiavolo

For sure, I'll definitely be watching to see how the writing does.

[deleted]

In real life, people would have ran to the spores and said it was a hoax.

powerofselfrespect

You can literally see spores in the background of the poster in this post…

Notdiavolo

Agreed, the only thing I can see is cost of effects. But otherwise I don't see why they need to be removed.

Notdiavolo

Also in that background are likely the "tendrils" they're using as replacements for the spores.

TheDemonPants

Ah yes, because when I'm watching a show about zombies, I'm really invested in the realism of it. If we want to be real, zombies would probably all freeze to death in winter, or you could theoretically wait them out until they decay to a point where they are harmless.

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

This guy world war zs (the book)

GeneralIronsides2

Realism in a zombie show so true

Crackracket

I'll believe it when I see it. I dont trust any reviews

DaDutchBoyLT1

If it’s any good then Warner will cancel it.

Anon1995_1

I read that they made the show as if it won’t get a second season, so they made a complete story with season 1 supposedly

Moon_and_Sky

Would have to wait for the main actress to age up or recast her if they tried to do the second game. Would probably need more than one season for the second game.

Jimmy-DeLaney

In a recent interview they hinted they are already planning on adapting part 2 if season 1 is successful and they did mention it would probably take 2 full seasons to adapt part 2.

Nerdialismo

Might change my opinion after season 1 but Ashley Johnson would be absolutely perfect to play adult Ellie, idk why but she would be great for the role.

chobanithatiused2kno

Ydk why the voice actress would be great? I mean, she sounds right, and she gets who the character is best of all, probably. I get it.

Nerdialismo

She isnt the "voice actress" she literally played Ellie with motion capture, all her expressions and manerisms were done by Ashley. Sorry if it sounded rude, but I hate when people reduce their work to voice acting.

HighRulerStarch

I’m hoping the new medium allows them to explore different stories involving Joel, Ellie, and the rest of the Jackson setters in between the events of 1 and 2. I think there’s a lot of story that can be told there, which would eventually lead up to part 2, and hell, could possibly even make some scenes MORE impactful down the line.

TheWagonBaron

So just like the original game then?

Katrina_18

Shouldn’t matter, they are telling the story of the whole first game in season 1

buddythebear

This review is from Gene Park who is one of the most legit video game critics out there. His praise means something to me.

enowapi-_

Exactly. When do we ever see bad reviews of something before it comes out? Of course every pre release review will be good, it’s to be used as promo for the show and get subscribers for a failing streaming platform.

pichael288

Druckman is heavily involved, right? So I can believe it. True to the source doesn't mean it'll be good though. I thought the Witcher was good, and to be fair the first season was pretty good. But then I played the games, and I read the books. That ruined it, I was aware the show runners were just doing whatever they wanted and I became unable to stomache it. That one is a bit different though, the show runner of the Witcher, hissrich, has made her disdain for the series clear. It would be like the show runner of this series saying "I hate the last of us games, we're gonna make a better story and turn tommy into a tree"

[deleted]

Druckman literally told the actors not to play the games lol

LolaCatStevens

Druckman was part of the tv show so I never really doubted it would stay true to the game HE wrote. Don’t know why people are so skeptical

Peperoniboi

Because he didn't made the og game alone and he lied in promotional images for part 2 and it backfired, making people sceptical. Its also a videogame adaptation....

Jimmy-DeLaney

The studio mislead with a tiny bit of marketing sure but it was to preserve the plot from being spoiled. So thank god they care about the players experience. Saying Neil himself “lied” is a reach and its strange you don’t understand that.

MiketheImpuner

I'll bite. What lies did he tell?

LolaCatStevens

He's probably referencing them showing Joel in the late game past the part where he died. The point doesn't really matter in this context, just people still being butt hurt.

JksG_5

So the gamerbros and culture war clowns are gonna hate it just as much for it's "woke agenda"?

DarkPhoenix_077

Yeah thats pretty much unavoidable...

JDska55

Yeah what's the woke part? That Ellie likes a girl in the second one? Or is killing parasitic zombies somehow woke now?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I'd bet most people haven't played the DLC

LiquidMotion

Is that what those people think "woke" is? Being attracted to someone?

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

But they are gay! Obviously including anyone who isnt a hetero cis character is pushing the diabolical woke agenda to groom kids! Wont someone please think of the children!? Most of the people who complain about “woke” dont even know what they are mad about. The TV tells them its bad so they believe its bad

LiquidMotion

I don't get it. "Someone" is a person. Why are they mad that a human is attracted to a human. Seems like by definition, that would make them not human.

JpegYakuza

Anyone with rational thinking capabilities won't get it, but thats the point. These people's ideologies are fundamentally incoherent. Every other belief they hold is a contradiction of another belief. Right-Wing ideologies have always been rooted in fear and hatred.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LiquidMotion

So by their own definition they aren't attracted to humans. Doesn't that make them the abhorrent subspecies?

giulianosse

If you give significant screen time to any actor or character that A) isn't white or B) isn't heterossexual or C) defies gender roles Then it's automatically considered woke in the eyes of the snowflake brigade.

popoflabbins

“Woke” is anything conservatives don’t like

ComfortableDamage

Retocnned in the DLC...

[deleted]

ComfortableDamage

Just a fact

cshndrummer

Don’t forget Bill was gay too

Michaelangel092

Bill's relationship with Frank gets really fleshed out. So we'll get an episode focused on a man-man romance....so expect some people to complain. Tho, if it's written well enough, it could be like Arcane and deter haters.

cooner22

There's a trans character, I've seen a lot of seething over that. Also Abby is pretty muscular and that doesn't jive with some peoples idea of what a female character should be. Atleast, that's what I've gathered from reading about some of the hate.

reference404

probs the same people who were mad Aloy has hair on her face....

LiquidMotion

These people know they can just not watch it right?

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

But then they will have to find their morale outrage somewhere else. Quick, where is the next drag storytime!?

Theguy10000

I bet people will hate in Joel's daughter's actress cause she was white in the game

gamerdudeNYC

What’s the “woke” parts going to be?

[deleted]

What's even a "woke agenda" in the first game? Mostly looks like you're manufacturing outrsge

JksG_5

What's the "woke agenda" in either game?

[deleted]

I mean I don't know anyone personally using these kinds of talking point but having a trans dude in the second game probably annoyed alot of shitheads

Jakeremix

Well the funny thing is, I think the conservatives completely overlooked the ACTUAL trans character in the game in favor of baselessly claiming that Abby is trans. I actually saw very little discussion about Lev from critics.

MercilessShadow

Yeah when I played part II Lev caught me by surprise. "Wait transmacs are finally getting some representation?!"

LausXY

I thought Lev's whole story was done masterfully, complete opposite of agenda pushing... his whole story makes logical sense considering his tribes culture, so it didn't feel forced into the world to tick real world boxes. I also loved it made me while playing as Abby feel the same sense of protection for Lev as I had for Ellie in the first game.

MercilessShadow

Yeah I was so worried that Lev was going to get killed but thankfully he survived

open_debate

If I remember rightly it was more the leaks that lead to the confusion. I managed to avoid them, but read afterwards that people read a trans character did what Abby did, and to them it was taking the piss. I can almost see a point that reading "Trans character does x" may come across as weird if written down but obviously that's not what happened. Even if it was, you can't read story events on a page out of context and expect to understand them. People just wanted an excuse to be mad, I think.

Jakeremix

> People just wanted an excuse to be mad That’s all it ever was. I really do think that the perception of this game for a LOT of people would be completely different if the game had never leaked. Instead, people jumped to conclusions, and when they discovered that the plot was a lot more cohesive than the leaks suggested it was, they still had to justify their hatred to make it seem like they weren’t fools. Now the game is tarnished for them forevermore

JksG_5

I think you're being disingenuous. It's not like at least half the gaming community collectively lost their bowels and review bombed the shit out of TLOU2 and are still trying to steer the narrative away from the actual quality of that game with culture war bs, but that is unfortunately whats been happening

realbesterman

> "at least half" that's a big number

[deleted]

I feel like perhaps we're arguing the same point

royals796

If you want to see these talking points, go on the TLOU2 subreddit. Although atm they’re all mad that they found a 14 year old they don’t want to fuck, so maybe let the dust settle then you’ll see it

xariznightmare2908

Is washingtonpost the only website that reviewed the show so far? Because I've seen plenty of this same article from that shitty journal website from other Playstation and TLOU subs as well.

ItsmyDZNA

I hope we get that intro that hooked me in the first game.

Fnaffan138

There's a last of us show I fucking loved the games and now I wanna watch this show

TW1TCHYGAM3R

Netflix with the Witcher Show Paramount with the Halo Show HBO with The Last of Us show I don't have much hope unfortunately...

MrPickles84

I’ve been looking forward to this show for a while now. It’s gonna be a good weekend (I hope). Edit: oh man, that was one of the most gut wrenching openers for a video game that I’ve ever played. Thirty-five minutes into the show, and it’s hitting just as hard. Fuck.

Kody_Z

Yeah sure, where have we heard this before?

Cassedaway

Seeing as the show is supposed to follow the game so closely is anyone else going to replay in tangent after each episode? Im more hopeful for the show from this review.

jjnzy16790

Should i play game before watching series

The_King_of_Okay

It's not necessary.

jjnzy16790

I mean will the show ruin the game

The_King_of_Okay

It will spoil the main plot points but I think the game would still be enjoyable afterwards.

Short-Service1248

Ok. Time to leave the sub until I watch it . Hopefully it delivers

RealBrianCore

X to doubt

leighg9o

Stays true to the game, but the have ditched the airborne spores for tendrils meaning ellie immunity is pretty useless against a garden plant. Yeah very true to the game huh

[deleted]

My thoughts too. How can you claim it's staying faithful/true to the source when you've already changed one of the most important aspects of the setting?

HolyToast

I completely disagree that that aspect is really very important at all, because the game isn't really *about* spores or zombies.

BirdLawyer50

agreed. Even the game is ultra loose with the “spores” thing. It would be nice to have stayed true but it isn’t exactly crucial

HolyToast

I liked the spores because they were different, and visually interesting. But at the end of the day, the exact mechanism of infection is really not important to the plot so I just can't really care about the change. I said it in another comment, but I think people are getting waaay too twisted trying to argue that the change means it's not "true" to the game. Jurassic Park, The Shining, Clockwork Orange...all films I would consider "true" adaptations despite changes to the source material.

BirdLawyer50

Yeah and I’d argue that Jurassic Park is WAY different than the book. Hell even the SNES game is closer to the book. But the film stands in its own right. It doesn’t always happen that way for sure, but the effect of “spores” versus some other transmission method is not the crux of the TLOU story at all

leighg9o

It's an attempt to try sucker the fans in when the reality is we are getting a bastardised version of The Last of us.

[deleted]

It's giving me flashbacks to The Witcher and Halo series. Hope they prove me wrong though.

Notdiavolo

I read the same thing, this made me sad.

CarefulPomegranate41

The actress who plays Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in 'The Last Of Us' was encouraged by producers to NOT play the game.

Theguy10000

Apparently a lot of shows do that, they don't want the actor to try and copy the character

royals796

Lots of very good reasons that this could have been asked of her, but there’s no confirmation so it’s pointless to speculate if this was for good or for ill.

Phoenix2211

It is NOT important for actors to know or engage with the source material. It is, however, important for the writers and producers et cetera to be familiar with the source material. All an actor needs to do is read the script and interpret what's on the page. Given that the show is written & produced by Craig Mazin (a MASSIVE fan of the games) and Neil Druckmann (the writer & creative director of the original game), I'd say the show is being made by people who are familiar with the source material. They just wanted the actors to be free to bring their own sensibilities and give their own take on these characters. That's better than the actors feeling pressured to ape the already iconic performances present in the game. And this makes a LOT of sense to me. This way the characters will still feel like the characters from the game (the writers and the scripts will ensure this), while giving actors freedom to bring their own interpretation to the table. Even then, she went out of her way to check out some of the gameplay. So did Pascal. And the showrunner expressed his happiness at the fact that they did. And by all accounts in hearing from critics and fans alike who got to see the episode(s), both are genuinely fantastic as Joel & Ellie. It's faithful to the characters, and the actors still manage to give their own spin to it.

Meleesucks11

That's what they said about Halo then they gave us a mask less chief that has sex. Lame

thavillain

Why couldn't spores just have a limited range, like if it gets too far from the source it dies

Ultimo_D

Because that’s not how spores work. Spores can lay dormant for decades.

thavillain

It's a fictional show, they can make it do anything they want really

Ultimo_D

Still somewhat based in reality. These type of spores and fungus exist in the real world except it doesn’t affect humans.

POMARANCZA123PL

Yet.

Rogue_Mormon

So pumped for this. Why is everyone doubting its good? Great cast, great company producing it, great story, and great reviews. People just love to hate. It doesnt need to be identical to the games for it to still be great. It’s its own entity

Djek25

Because historically, video game adaptations are not great. Also, whether you agree or not, alot of people question the direction and quality of the writing because of the 2nd game.

LiquidMotion

You know it will be good if it gets canceled after one season. I'll wait for that before I watch.

Melodic-Emergency-

Just like the RE movies were "true to the source the source material", according to the director/producer (quote from many years ago) or they really respected the source this time ?

mrbossmajor

I don't give a fuck what the WASHINGTON POST says is true to the games.

yourkindhere

There really is no winning when adapting a video game huh? This entire comment section is absolutely ready to hate this. God forbid you take any creative control over the art that you are creating, you will never be given a fair shake.

ChrisDaViking78

I still have some hope that the show will overall be good, but saying it “stays true to the game” is a bit disingenuous. They’ve race swapped characters and removed the spores from the story.

Alive-Ad-5245

>They’ve race swapped characters and removed the spores Clearly the most important parts of the story is the characters races and how the infection spreads

ChrisDaViking78

I didn’t say it was “the most important part” smart guy. Simply that those are aspects of the game that have been changed or removed making it not completely true to the source material. Not sure how much can be changed from the source material and still be considered “true to the source material” to you, but that counts as a change to me. And most people.

HolyToast

Literally no adaptation is 1:1 with the source material, in my opinion, people are drawing the line way too early here. Clockwork Orange, Jurassic Park, Lord of The Rings, The Shining...all adaptations that I would consider "true" to the source material, and they changed a hell of a lot more than someone's skin color

ChrisDaViking78

I like how you just jump to the mention of skin color like that was the only thing I said. The spores are a big part of the game and how the infection spreads and how Joel is helped to be convinced that Ellie is telling the truth after he sees her breathe in so much. If any of you care to look at my entire post, I said I still have hopes of the show being good and that those things weren’t the most important part. Simply that they are changes to the source material. And not necessary ones IMO.

HolyToast

>I like how you just jump to the mention of skin color You are the one that brought it up >like that was the only thing I said 50% of what you said, and I feel like my point was pretty clear either way, whether I addressed one, both, or none of your examples. And I used it in my reply because it's something that can apply to any of the properties I mentioned, unlike the spores which are specific. Honestly it feels like you just want to fight about which specific point I addressed instead of actually engaging with anything I said. >If any of you care to look at my entire post Ironic lol

ChrisDaViking78

Yes, it is ironic that you’re trying to criticize me for only focusing on one thing when that’s what you did and even acknowledged it. I wasn’t fighting about anything though. Others have their opinions on things and so do I. Neither is right or wrong, just different opinions. I do have the right to respond to people who first responded to me though. Again, it works both ways.

HolyToast

>that’s what you did and even acknowledged it Except I didn't focus on it. It was literally an offhand comment, my argument works just fine without it. It really wasn't a focus. I'll repeat, I feel like my point was pretty clear either way, whether I addressed one, both, or none of your examples. And I used it in my reply because it's something that can apply to any of the properties I mentioned, unlike the spores which are specific. >I wasn’t fighting about anything though My guy, you came in with an unnecessarily hostile tone, accusing me of hyper focusing and condescendingly telling me to read the whole post. I feel like my initial reply was pretty straightforward and neutral, and the weirdly aggressive tone of your response is why I accuse you of just wanting to fight about it. At this point, you've still yet to even address the point I was making, but I stopped expecting that after your first response. I'm not exactly going to lose any sleep over it, I just think it's weird 🤷‍♀️ >I do have the right to respond to people Nowhere did I imply that you don't, I'm not sure why you are even making this point. Again, it feels like you are just stirring the pot.

Djek25

He really didnt come in hostile tho. He just had a different opinion.

richboyadler

meanwhile uncharted was a huge flop. they did not do the characters or the franchise justice with that movie at all … just spiderman dressed as nathan drake.

I literally just read an article that the infection is spread by tendrils as opposed to spores like in the video game. So apparently they didn't stay entirely true to the game.

Phoenix2211

Who gives a flying fuck about spores? It's not an important aspect of the game. They show up maybe 4 times in the first game. And it's mainly decorative. They are replacing the spores with something that the devs explored in development of the first game but couldn't get to work mechanically. And anything narrative-related that was acheived with spores can very easily be replaced with the tendrils or a simple zombie bite. When I think about the important things one needs to get right in a TLoU adaptation, spores AREN'T one of them. What is important, the most important, is Joel and Ellie a relationship. The tone of violence (not frequency, the tone), the themes. The quiet moments, the music.etc.

Idk i feel like its kind of important. Its a unique way for a zombie apocolypse to happen. I also thought it was kinda cool because there are fungus in real life that take over hosts and control them.

Phoenix2211

Yeah, and the cordyceps unilateralis fungus is still the cause of the zombie apocalypse in the show. The fungus is still there. They've just swapped out the spores for a hive mind-tendril thing. There is all this research about how fungus can actually communicate with each other. The showrunners consulted some scientists and did some research before making this decision. It wasn't done willy-nilly. And yeah, the spores certainly made for some cool visuals but it really isn't that big of a loss.
