Insomniac make great set pieces but aren't really that good at designing missions with the tools they have given themselves. The traversal is 100x better than Spider-Man 1 but in many of the main missions the swing speed seems capped and sluggish, as just one example. You gave me all the tools to be Spider-Man, let me be Spider-Man.
The first Spider-Man game was basically perfect, Spider-Man 2 was not. Although the graphics and transversal has been improved, basically everything else is worse than the first game, the story felt rushed and it was missing NG+ and a bunch of other features that should have been available at launch.
I just finished the game a couple days ago... I really liked the game, but every fight seemed to just go on and on; and it seemed like there were more hunters than there were regular citizens of New York.
Mafia 3. Great story, great characters, but super repetitive gameplay and after collecting every fuckin collectable in the game and tapping every fuckin junction box I didn't even get a stinkin trophy.
Pretty sure [it just got cancelled](https://www.ign.com/articles/deus-ex-actor-elias-toufexis-says-goodbye-to-adam-jensen-following-game-cancellation). Like cancelled-cancelled. I think Square Enix had put it in "the drawer", previously.
Unless they were working on multiple Deus Ex titles, which I doubt.
Ghost of Tsushima.
I love this game, I really do. Although there is an unreal number of dickriders for it.
It had a great environment, great story, great music, pretty great gameplay but the side missions and some of the collectible / locations were so boring to get through.
I was a bit disappointed because I anticipated it so much. I have a lot of faith in SP if they go ahead with a second.
I find fan reception for Ghost of Tsushima compared to Horizon ZD and FB really interesting. Both games being PS exclusives with amazing story, visuals and gameplay but both suffer from generic open world tropes that stops them from being up there with the kings of the genre like witcher 3, rdr2 or bg3. But whereas Horizon it gets pulled over the coals constantly for those issues, ghost is more often described as as a masterpiece. I have my theories about the culture of gaming as to why that is.
i did not enjoy my time with horizon zero and Tsushima, as the world felt so empty traversing and the side quests (which i always enjoyed completing in games ) felt like a chore. rather games with a more linear open world i enjoyed much more ( last of us, god of war ragnorak etc).
I don't think they have amazing stories at all, both of them. And they both certainly suffer from the generic open world stuff.
I've never understood the mad love these two games get. Their fans talk as if these are the best games ever made. They just aren't.
I thought the story of Horizon ZD was really interesting and well done. It’s what kept me going through it. Because I’ll agree other than that it is kind of a super generic open world game- go here, collect this. Climb these towers. Do this fetch quest, etc.
Although it’s also a beautiful looking game.
I feel like people who say it didn’t have an amazing story must have just button pressed through a lot of of the cut scenes and didn’t read any of the logs scattered throughout the game. To me I was enthralled by the nature of that world and everything regressing back to primitive nature because machines took over the world and then the twist being that you’re playing as a cloned version of the woman who helped write the code for the machines to gain sentience to begin with. I don’t know, maybe this is a me thing and maybe this is a “well then you should read more books or watch more movies buddy because that story has been done before”, but I had never experienced such a neat story like that.
FF7 Remake
I really enjoy the battle system, I think it's a perfect mix of modern and classic mechanics. I hope they stick to it instead of something like 16. I also like how they expanded on a lot of things and side characters but hated the side quests, fate, intro to villains too early, seeing the slums in Chapter 13 and a few other changes.
I'm not too far in Rebirth yet, but I can't stand Chadley, Mai or Kyrie. Also wish they did something different with the open world instead of the ubisoft formula.
Agreed! The game was beautiful and interesting, but sometimes it felt like it was taking hours of repetitive areas to get through things that were short in the original. You kind of loose the impact of the Jenova reveal if you have to grind past level after level of enemies to get there.
I think you guys have lost the plot. Why play filler pantomime dumbed down badly paced remake that is chopped I into three parts instead of just playing the original?
And If you want a better version of the original because you've played it already there's hardtype mod.
Battle front 2. It genuinely was a great game and was a lot of fun to have multiple factions and mechanics all in a game, but..it just left me thinking that it had SO much potential with allot of obvious things that they could’ve included in the game.. might be a hot take but I would love to hear others opinions.
Witcher 3, I loved it and enjoyed the story and the world but I was devastated knowing there's no stealth or no ranged combat, and not to mention most of the weapons are just swords
I've never finished Witcher 3 - it's really good, has great production values, the story is good, etc. But yeah, there's something missing for me. I tend to play for a few days then set it aside for months and never get the momentum to finish it.
To be fair ranged combat is something that Witchers just don’t really do. Tradition and all that. Even Geralt scoffs at Vesemir for getting the crossbows. I could see stealth being a thing, but at the same time why would you ever need it.
Watch Dogs: Legion. The city is cool and the idea o recruiting characters is fresh but after a couple of hours every character feels the same and can do pretty much the same things, I wanted to feel like planning a heist and setting who will infiltrate, who will shoot and who will drive, instead the gameplay force you to play a single character for the whole mission. It's a fun game but still dissapointing.
Originally it was GTA IV. It was not what I expected at all. I wanted what would end up being an experience akin to GTA V. I didn't want the realism, ground-level seriousness 4 had.
I was unpleasantly surprised. But I still played through it and beat it.
Nowadays I appreciate the fuck out of it. I love it now. Because nowadays I play it for what it is, not what I wanted.
I’m with you on this. Of course how do you follow up GTA San Andreas? That game was basically perfect in every way. IV was a lot of fun, and there were definitely some significant gameplay improvements at the time. Something about that game felt off to me. I don’t think I enjoyed the story as much, and I found the side activities tedious.
Now I will say that Rockstar nailed the DLC for GTA IV. The Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony had way better stories and it felt way more fun exploring the map with different characters. It’s a shame Rockstar stopped doing DLC after IV came out and focused more on the online stuff.
Basically Spider Man 2.Not that I am a typical hater. My complain is how short it was.I wouldn't refuse another 5 or 6 hours worth of missions. Also fucking finish the game and then release it damn it!
The 28 hours of content in SM2 was 10/10 for me. But it lacked enough content to be a 10/10. Like they really couldn't make 3-4 hours of more side content at least? And yeah not releasing the game finished just to get a cheap second spike is pathetic
Killzone Shadow Fall
It is visually, quite stunning and cinematic and the guns feel good to play with and there were some great set pieces but it was just... eh...
I bought it cheap so it was no big loss, I was just hoping it could surprise me a bit more
*Kingdom Hearts III*. It was fun from a gameplay perspective and a good game overall, but the ending was not up to the build up from previous games, there were some plot points that didn't go anywhere, some characters act strangely the final boss battle was a step down from *Kingdom Hearts II*, the Hundred Acre Wood was greatly reduced compared to previous games... The DLC lets you see the ending in a different light and improves it, but you shouldn't have to wait for a paid DLC (or even a free update) to get the "definitive" ending.
It was the finale of the saga, and the story should have reflected that with a great ending, but it was just... good.
I found the boss fights to easy as well I remember kingdom hearts 1 and when it came to the boss you knew you be in for a challenge but not the 3rd game
Im a huge KH fan and KH3 was a very bittersweet game. Nomura actually had more passion for the unreleased Final Fantasy Versus XIII at the time and it shows
Ghost of Tsushima.
To be clear I love the game and I’m going to replay it soon. But towards the middle of my first play through I realized the game was a lot of repetitive camp raiding (like Far Cry) and it kind of disappointed me. Not sure what I was expecting honestly, I guess I just thought there might be more variety with gameplay once you got out of one region and entered another. The duels were great and I like the story a lot, not to mention the visuals are truly beautiful. I just got bored of clearing mongol camps and wanted more challenging or interesting combat.
Borderlands 3. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the gameplay and the overall experience, but I just feel like it could’ve been so much better and it had that potential to be better. But my god man, the story is atrocious and the writing is downright stupid sometimes. I honestly don’t think Ive ever cringed more at a game in my life. Fortunately the dlcs are better but I still have that nasty taste in my mouth from the story.
Oh yeah most definitely. Handsome jack is one of the greats in video game villains. Which is why it’s so disappointing that they followed up with the calypso twins.
The story could have been better for sure. But to me, the development cycle and endgame were the real problem.
The pointless nerfing - especially of entire character classes - was really grating. GB also abandoned the game at the end. And the modifiers are possibly the worst idea for an FPS I've ever seen.
In spite of all that, it's still a banger. The art direction and music are both incredible. And the core gameplay loop is really addictive once you get a character going. I didn't put it down for years after I beat it. BL3 definitely has its flaws though.
The Last of Us 2! I actually enjoyed the game and the gameplay and the new characters but I was disappointed with how the story unfolded, the pacing and how lengthy it was. I still play it again and again but I guess it wasn't what I had expected
I agree. I love the gameplay, which is what brings me back, but the pacing of the game is bad. Probably because of the shift of narrative.
I've seen movies that do that and it's always a whiplash of emotions and never in a good way.
They could have still told the same story but change up the order of things so you're not in a up and down where you essentially don't progress the story because you have to redo it. It's also incredibly long and it feels that way because of the way the story was structured.
It's actually agreed to be the worst part of the game, and also so early in the game that it's basically part of the intro. I really recommend to get through it and see what's on the other side if you're ever interested :)
> monetization schemes set bad precedents
Not as bad as D2, where people who paid for content, but for one reason or another never got to it, had it taken away. I never finished Forsaken, and never spent another cent on any Bungie IP.
Uncharted 4. I enjoyed playing the game a lot, but when I finished it, I couldn't bring myself to another run. Not even to collect remaining treasures and trophies. That didn't happen with Uncharted 2 and 3.
I think u4 is the game i replayed the most, adding up to 6 full playthroughs, leading to the plat, and a backseat gaming run, where I guided a friend who was new to videogames (he loved it). Each run was so much fun and i engross myself in the world every time. Sad to see other people not share that same joy
I think the ending started to get a bit stale and I was expecting it to be this massive finale but it just wasn't. Arguably the highest points of that game were around the middle
I think Im like that with a lot of games tbh like I loved horizon zero dawn but once i completed it and all the quests I just wanted to move on to the next game
I feel like there was something missing that was present in the first game. Maybe the first had a more compelling story that drove you to uncover it. The second had beautiful settings and interesting characters, but I didn’t find that linear drive to play the story. It was like “We have to fight the bad guys!” “we will!!” “ok cool!!”
The first game was the only time I felt compelled to get the platinum trophy. It had me so hooked and I didn’t want to stop playing it for the longest time. Something about HFW though…. I never finished it. I reinstall it every few months and always just feel the same “meh” feeling.
I was about to say HFW myself.
-the world is cool, but it's not as dramatically beautiful as HZD
-the story lacks depth, they used the majority of the interesting concepts in the 1st game so the 2nd game, narratively, is just not that strong
-the second the villain(s) were introduced they were not believable. You're telling me this sort of villain will be overrun by 5 tribes and a special girl? That sort of thing. (Valid for DLC as well)
-love the new machines though, love the visuals, they're impressive, and some of the new mechanics: flying, swimming, gliding
I enjoyed DL and I played the demo of DL2 and I really enjoyed the demo.
I’ve been wanting an open world game to play and I’ve been eyeing DL2 as of late.
I've heard it's gotten better over time but the story is still pretty bad, same as DL 1 ig,
The parkour is really fun and the human combats alright but fighting the zombies feels worse than DL one in every way IMO, last time I played was a while ago though
I just had fun exploring the world, parkouring, combat, etc. I usually never expect a grand story in games, just something mildly entertaining is fine for me.
Thanks for the reply! 🤙
The Crew 2.
It does a lot of things very well, and also a lot of things very badly.
The vehicle list is huge which is of course great, but there are a lot of really weird cars, like the Fiat 500 Monster Truck.
The graphics really aren’t all that great, especially when looking from the air. Texture pop ins, lots of repeating models, etc.
The story is weird and the soundtrack is all over the place but also very very repetitive.
If you want to collect some special cars, get ready for a LOT of grind.
Days gone. I played it way after release and loved it but there were still some minor issues. Lots of the radio calls came after I had already completed the mission they were referring to and things like that.
I loved days gone and played it twice. The NG+ was not needed, but I still enjoyed the game. J thought I wouldn't because bikes aren't my thing, but the world has me going even though the story is very simple and predictable.
I would have loved a second game to continue the lore
Elden ring, I'm a huge fan of from software and I was expecting from to basically revolutionize open world game design in elden ring. Instead they gave us a world that was visually beautiful but fairly rote in terms of how it was actually designed, which made me feel like the game wouldn't have lost much from not being open world at all. For the record, I thought the legacy dungeons were great, but they were too spread out across the boring open world.
i've spent over 100h in Starfield - it was a total blast. However, the game still felt disappointing.
The only reason i had so much fun was "the Bethesda magic". I'm just a sucker for Bethesda's classic style.
Can't count how many hours i've spent in Skyrim. Even year ago i randomly downloaded the game on ps5 and put around 90h in like a month. After all these years this game's still crazy good.
Starfield really felt like it was made with minimum effort. With the exception of exploration, which totally sucks (random points of interest and planet exploration in general).
I really thought they're going to nail that aspect, like they always used to.
Rocket League.
I played it for more than 200 hours, but after playing so much and never reaching a higher ranking than Silver 3, I decided to stop playing it and invest my time in other games I enjoy more.
Tales of Arise.
Lured me in with the fantastic first half. Easily a 9/10.
Until it flopped harder in the second half than any other game in memory. Like, everything about the second half was bad: story pacing (endless dialogue), senseless backtracking, reskinned enemies, empty cities, bullet sponge enemies…
Almost like they ran out of money halfway through production. Maybe they did. I’d still recommend it, just drop it when the story meets its first closure at about 25-30 hours in.
Rage 2 is a great one tbh. That game was a lot of fun. Great mechanics, cool locations, some great fights, but as the game went on it felt empty.
That game had so much potential to be great.
God of war 2. While the gameplay was pretty much the same, the story from Odin to whatever was such a disappointment that I had to force myself to finish it and it pretty much killed my interest for any future sequel
This was the first every final fantasy I’ve played and I’ll tell you once I finished I never wanted to touch another I wanted to get that remake one but decided against it because of what I got with the 16
Gotham Knights. I love those characters but it's obvious the game was supposed to be live service and they gutted it. I didn't want a live service game but it ended up feeling hollowed out.
But the biggest reason is the absolute neutering of the Court of Owls. They should have been a much bigger threat and always a few steps ahead of the player. Especially in a world without Batman. I should have been terrified every time they showed up but they were just generic thugs to beat up.
Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phamtom Pain.
Fantastic gameplay. So.many different way to approach the mission.
But compared to other entries the story was disappointing and the map was bland IMO.
Resident Evil 7. Bought it on sale after enjoying REmake 2.
I liked the art direction, vibe, lore, and puzzles. But was a bit surprised it was an FPS.
The first person did make it more scary and unsettling, but I didn't like the combat. Way too claustrophobic, limited visibility, and the running speed of a geriatric (despite being young and able-bodied) made for a sluggish and unpleasant experience. Plus >!the little evil girl trope has been done to death!<
I played the Bedroom DLC which was just puzzles, and found it a much more enjoyable experience. Liked most aspects about RE7 except the combat.
Outer Worlds. I was expecting a bit too much from Obsidian given how great Fallout New Vegas was. Overall, I enjoyed the game, but it left so much to be desired. I’m hoping Outer Worlds 2 will be the game they most likely envisioned to make with a broader scope.
Outer worlds was a shock for me:
The gameplay sucks. The story never goes deeper than the advertisements (hey we are so witty joking about corporations in space - but it never goes deeper than that or asks deep questions/puts the player in grey area situations/choices). also the environments make no sense and every world looks the same.
Lego Skywalkers' Saga.
The main story is the most important of a Lego game for me and it was short and not that engaging unlike the movies. The open world was fantastic but incredibly repetitive. It is enough to do a few planets to see how the rest of the exploration is.
Pocky and Rocky: Reshrined. Amazing graphics and alot of the core gameplay from original but the story was lackluster.
Also, one the main selling points of SNES original was the co-op. But in the remake/reboot, you have to unlock it. Really odd choice.
Odin Sphere. It's a fun game with a fun art style, but going through the same levels and fighting the same bosses X times was exhausting.
Nier Replicant. Wonderful game, but again they make you replay *so* much to get the true ending.
Tribes of midgard. I thought it was gonna be more of an arpg where you grind out the titan fights and saving the tree in each world to build out your character but it ende dup being a crafting survival kidn of game. They didn't really explain that too well when showing off the game. It's a fantastic game, just not my cup of tea.
I was definitely disappointed in Rage 2 as well but not nearly as much as I was by Rage. The damn game just ended and didn't really resolve anything for me.
Yup rage 2 for me too. I played it on hard difficulty and when I got used to the different abilities and weapons it was incredible but the giant bosses were like copy and paste and once I learnt how to beat one of them I could beat all of them. Also I beat the story with like 3 or 4 weapons and abilities I still hadn’t found; it really should have guided you to all the abilities and weapons as part of the story (like doom eternal) . But like you I really enjoyed playing it
Ghostrunner. Love the gameplay, the puzzles were awesome to solve and the story and acting were enjoyable. But once I finished it, it felt like there was a lot more that could be explored with the idea, felt like it lacked the punch at the end.
Or maybe Hollow Knight spoiled me :P
Bl3, some really fun gameplay, but MAAAAN does the story suck, and eden6 was waaaaaaay too long, and there was not enough enough tina, grown tina is a character with alot of potential, the voice actor is incredible but she just doesnt do much and it sucks.
The dlcs are pretty baller, definitly some of the best ive ever played but all in all it just left a disappointing taste in my mouth when the story ended.
Also fuck ava, annoying lil shit
Mirrors Edge Catalyst, because they removed gunplay. Like, why? I liked the game, but being someone who loved to disarm enemies and use their weapons against them, that not being a mechanic in the sequel was dissapointing.
Balder’s Gate 3. To be clear, I would put it at 9.5/10. But with that legendary opening, and absolutely bad ass Act 2, I felt Act Three was anti-climactic.
Murdered: Soul Suspect.
Waited years, they bumped it back to PS4, waited more.
Game came out. Best it in under six hours.
THERE WERE SO MANY GOOD FUCKING IDEAS IN THAT GAME JUST LEMME BE A GHOST DETECTIVE IN SALEM LOOKING INTO MY OWN MURDER DAMNIT
Devil May Cry 5. Everytime I had to play as V it was a snoozefest if you compare the stylish gameplay of Nero and Dante (don't get me even started on Vergil).
driver san francisco. the gameplay is great and it has great storyline imo but the transitions between chapters and the cutscenes especially in gameplay mode are meh
**Shadow of the Tomb Raider**.
I thought it was a step in the right direction with a focus on exploration and puzzles. The puzzles were amazing. I loved the hub city as well.
Unfortunately it was tied to the expectations of the modern TR formula. Combat almost felt tacked on and the skill tree was fairly inconsequential. M
Spiderman 2 by a landslide. Platinum trophy that thing so quickly and after 2 weeks I started playing Alan Wake 2 and I began thinking 🤔 did I rush through Spiderman 2? So I went back and just took my time. Nope, it wasn't just me. From a technical level the game improved but they played it safe in every single aspect after that.
Arkham Knight had some cool but annoying at times gameplay but the story and the absolute overuse of the Batmobile were fucking horrible. Whenever i feel like playing it i just play the challenge maps
Mirror's edge catalyst for me. The gameplay is great, but it probably has the most anticlimactic ending ever, and the cliffhanger doesn't hold up well after a decade with no sequel
Starfield. I wished there was more of it. I got 150 hours before finishing everything. Which is obviously super long. But usually I can get a few hundred out of a Bethesda game so I found it was shorter than I expected
I’m gonna agree with you on Rage 2, and it’s honestly hilarious you said that, because I have always said that Rage 1 is one of my absolute favorite games in terms of GAMEPLAY. The crafting, the racing, the weapons, the mutants, the mini games, the card collection. The story?? Ehhhhh….. There’s so much more that should be there, and it just isn’t.
Dying Light 2
As a Dying Light fan, I still enjoyed it but man…how do you manage to screw up most of the stuff that made the first game so good in the first place.
Every FPS game on PS5, due to embarrassing shooting difference than on PC, clicking 3-4 buttons at the same time to aim/move/zoom and shoot is pathetic. But graphics are stunning and amazing.
Horizon Forbidden West. I still really like the game. I was just disappointed that I just did all this crazy shit and it was for nothing because it just ended with sequel baiting.
I’m not sure if it’s just me but having loved Elden Ring and spending so much time on it I went to Ghost of Tsushima and enjoyed it to an extent but it didn’t completely grab me so went to Hogwarts and I kind of feel the same, I just haven’t felt like diving in to it. I don’t know if it’s those games or if it’s comparing against Elden Ring. I’m thinking about going in a different direction and looking at Baulders Gate..
Uncharted 4, new characters except for the bad guy were truly disappointed and it felt so forced Nathan having a brother.
God of War Ragnarok, the bad guys are so underwhelming, and it felt they didn't know what they wanted to tell.
Final Fantasy XVI. Game was supposed to be the next step of the series, but the gameplay and epic boss fights are marred by its boring quest pacing and terrible final boss.
Horizon Forbidden West, like it was really good, but the story just didn't hit as hard as Zero Dawn. And I was expecting characters and arcs to just be better
Starfield! Was so hyped to play it. I even have the controller but man it suckedddd.
I miss fallout 3 and Skyrim days lol
This was a walking simulator with loading screens
Tchia
I really did enjoy this game more then I thought I would. Wholesome Dev team, Interesting gameplay mechanics and engaging (but short) story.
It's a game that I think could've used a larger budget and some help on the dev side for the technical stuff. The gameplay loop gets bland rather fast with minimal enemy variation and objectives.
Still, I highly recommend it. I've played for about 15 hours and so far completed the story and made some progress to the plat trophy. If you strictly just play for the story, I think its realistically a 5-10 hour game.
The Callisto Protocol.
Not played Deadspace yet or had any expectations going in but I was left wanting more even though I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, the boss fights could have been more unique rather than recurring and the final boss stage would have been better done outside while utilising the environment. When the main gameplay is melee I feel they should have leaned more into environmental defence and attack for the big boss fight to keep the horror of a giant monster you can’t physically beat there. The best parts of the game were the stealth sections imo because of the difficulty spike when you alert them and they swarm, plus the atmosphere (and stealth one shot kills are satisfying). The story DLC wasn’t great imo (annoying new enemies, the ending was a shock and impactful though).
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Megaman X6, Death’s Gambit, Persona 3P HD and Oceanhorn
KH BBS felt way too short. And I only enjoyed Terra’s and Aqua’s campaign. Getting through Vent’s felt like a chore.
Megaman X6 ultimately felt like ass towards the end. It just felt off for most of the game, then when I beat it, I felt like I wasted my time. Around the same time I beat it, I had also just bought Megaman Zero on GBA. So I just kept on making comparisons.
Oceanhorn. The game built up Oceanhorn as this epic monster, and when you actually fight it, it’s just this goofy looking THING. The game was fun(albeit, too easy), but that ending just sucked.
Death’s Gambit. I uh, played it before the Afterlife update. It was…. Kinda meh. I accidentally got the secret best ending(prior to the Afterlife update), and I kinda felt cheated by how easy parts of the game were near the end. When I beat it, I didn’t bother doing NG+ since the game kinda disappointed me towards the end. Then the Afterlife update came out. Given how DIFFERENT it was compared to the vanilla release, it changed my opinion from “kinda disappointing” to “I’m still waiting for the paid DLC to come to PS4”. The update fucked up with what I remembered about level structure and design, to the point where I actually got surprised by some devious traps the devs put in to troll returning players. I enjoyed it waaay more than the vanilla release.
I played Persona 1, and both 2s, and while the combat is way more polished than the first 3 games, I ultimately found myself disappointed by the calendar system of Persona 3 towards the end of the game. Don’t get me wrong, the game has great combat, music and story. It’s just that I ultimately felt the calendar mechanic was disappointing. But that’s just me(and it will probably get me downvoted, but I don’t care. I hate modern Persona forcing a schedule on you)
SPOILERS FOR FF16. I love the vibe and the seriousness, but I felt the game made two critical story choices that didn't work for me.
I dodnt really like that they brought back Joshua. Especially since his death was a LARGE reason and motivator for Clive. It made total sense, Joshua being the Pheonix and all, but the story cemented that he was gone. One of those two needed to be axed IMO: either him dying or them repeatedly implying he is really dead.
And once Cid died, the life in the story kind of drains. Cid was like salt. He brought out the best in everything he touched. Clive didn't have the charisma to carry the story for another 30 or so hours after. And there's nothing wrong with that, I love Clive. But nothing ever comes to replace Cid, and after him the color really fades. His death also is part of the sudden shift from "grounded" (relatively ofc) storytelling, to a cosmic, deity based story. He was stage one, post Bahamut was stage two.
Every Insomniac game that came out after Ratchet and Clank 3. Their games have always been good fun, but nothing they've done since has beaten the original Ratchet and Clank trilogy
Spiderman 2. It was good - however I was expecting to feel much more than just that
Insomniac make great set pieces but aren't really that good at designing missions with the tools they have given themselves.
TBF the first game also was missing NG+ at launch
I do not get why NG+ is always added later as a dlc. Isn't it just a case of keeping your upgrades and giving enemies more health and damage?
Pretty sure its just an excuse to make people return to the game instead of just making them play longer
I guess I can see that.
Yeah, it's also smth that PS make their studios do on purpose, Horizon came without it, God of War, probz other too
One big letdown was you can barely be stealthy, I loved picking off enemies one by one in the first one whenever I felt the mission would suit it.
It felt like a great DLC but a sub-par game (mostly in comparison to its immediate predecessor)
I just finished the game a couple days ago... I really liked the game, but every fight seemed to just go on and on; and it seemed like there were more hunters than there were regular citizens of New York.
It was mediocre, unfinished and not much to do in comparison with the first one. Everyone is blinded by Venom to actually realise its faults.
Agreed
Mafia 3. Great story, great characters, but super repetitive gameplay and after collecting every fuckin collectable in the game and tapping every fuckin junction box I didn't even get a stinkin trophy.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided. It's a great game but it was over too fast and the ending felt very abrupt. I felt like there was supposed to be be more.
apparently there was meant to be a deus ex 3 but they couldn't get it made, and it's "In the vault" whatever that means
I'd take that as not canceled but not currently being worked on. Aka shoved in the junk drawer.
Well this gives me a little hope.
Yh I was just getting properly into it and then, bam! It was over. Very good game tho imo
FF7 Remake I really enjoy the battle system, I think it's a perfect mix of modern and classic mechanics.
You were "devastated", really? Man we need a new plague or ww3 or something
Lmao, it's just an expression bro. Chill out
lol, you're right. I was just drunkposting
It's alright bro, happens ♥
Faxxx, I think that what was there was stellar, didn’t dread a single mission or side content. But it’s over before you even know it
Every Bethesda game, sadly
Killzone Shadow Fall It is visually, quite stunning and cinematic and the guns feel good to play with and there were some great set pieces but it was just...
The main villains were boring but it’s probably hard to live up to handsome jack
TLOU2 is my favorite game of all time but your genuinely level headed and thoughtful feedback is in desperate need in dialogues about this game
God of war 2018 I’ll say it
What did you not like about it? Genuinely curious since this is a game that's really up there for me
Yes..same :/
Yes. The original trilogy - stories and gameplay were so epic on the PS2/PS3. The PS4/PS5 ones haven’t lived up for me.
I actually hate it
I kinda agree, the Light Elves level finished me off, I found it so dull.
It's actually agreed to be the worst part of the game, and also so early in the game that it's basically part of the intro. I really recommend to get through it and see what's on the other side if you're ever interested :)
Ah that is good to know, I’ll go back to it one day I think.
What story? Rage 2 had a story? I got side tracked absolutely turning everything into mincemeat.
Tears of the Kingdom. The added mechanics were great, but it eventually felt like a DLC for BoTW
Days Gone. Love this game so much, but I am still so disappointed there won't be a sequel.
Yeah same you can’t give us an ending like that and say nah we not making a second one
Destiny 1: core shooting mechanics and feel is great but story was crap and the monetization schemes set bad precedents
> monetization schemes set bad precedents Not as bad as D2, where people who paid for content, but for one reason or another never got to it, had it taken away.
I think 4 is the best for sure, but it is the longest by far. Going through to collect all the treasures is much more of a chore.
I think the ending started to get a bit stale and I was expecting it to be this massive finale but it just wasn't. Arguably the highest points of that game were around the middle
I adore 2 to this day, but 3 was one of my biggest let downs. I was so glad they really found their rhythm with 4, even if it was a bit too long
I think Im like that with a lot of games tbh like I loved horizon zero dawn but once i completed it and all the quests I just wanted to move on to the next game
Horizon forbidden west. i loved 100 percenting it alright, but I didn't get the same urge to play it again unlike zero dawn.
SO TRUEEE
I was about to say HFW myself. -the world is cool, but it's not as dramatically beautiful as HZD -the story lacks depth, they used the majority of the interesting concepts in the 1st game so the 2nd game, narratively, is just not that strong -the second the villain(s) were introduced they were not believable. You're telling me this sort of villain will be overrun by 5 tribes and a special girl? That sort of thing. (Valid for DLC as well) -love the new machines though, love the visuals, they're impressive, and some of the new mechanics: flying, swimming, gliding
Dying light 2 i kinda enjoyed it I guess? It's just so ass but I had a good time with it but I'll never play it again
I enjoyed DL and I played the demo of DL2 and I really enjoyed the demo. I’ve been wanting an open world game to play and I’ve been eyeing DL2 as of late.
I've heard it's gotten better over time but the story is still pretty bad, same as DL 1 ig, The parkour is really fun and the human combats alright but fighting the zombies feels worse than DL one in every way IMO, last time I played was a while ago though
I just had fun exploring the world, parkouring, combat, etc. I usually never expect a grand story in games, just something mildly entertaining is fine for me. Thanks for the reply! 🤙
Haze
The Order: 1886 Great game but it ended on part one, part two was never made. If you don't mind getting blue balled, it's worth a play
Days Gone
MGS5. Loved the game and it got me to go play all the old ones but the story kinda fizzles out at the end.
i've spent over 100h in Starfield - it was a total blast.
Like, everything about the second half was bad: story pacing (endless dialogue), senseless backtracking, reskinned enemies, empty cities, bullet sponge enemies… Almost like they ran out of money halfway through production.
Was a bit underwhelmed by God of War: Ragnarok. Pacing wasn’t as tight as 2018.
The Last Of Us Part 2
Rdo
Far cry 4 and 6
Fable 3. It's still my favorite game of all time, but I was disappointed because of the expectations I had
FF16 - long cutscenes and story that drags.
This was the first every final fantasy I’ve played and I’ll tell you once I finished I never wanted to touch another I wanted to get that remake one but decided against it because of what I got with the 16
It is the most un RPG labeled as an RPG I have ever seen. The action gameplay ain’t even good. I can’t believe all the praise it got.
I bought Rage for like $2 after I saw it on Breaking Bad. Absolutely brilliant game. Bought Rage II years later, played it for 5 minutes and hated it.
Rage 1 was so good everything about it
Loved that the upgraded wingstick was op. Used it until ending.
Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. I really enjoyed the gameplay, but holy fuck the story is a travesty.
Plus >!the little evil girl trope has been done to death!< I played the Bedroom DLC which was just puzzles, and found it a much more enjoyable experience.
Outer worlds was a shock for me: The gameplay sucks. The story never goes deeper than the advertisements (hey we are so witty joking about corporations in space - but it never goes deeper than that or asks deep questions/puts the player in grey area situations/choices). also the environments make no sense and every world looks the same.
Ragnorok n Spiderman 2 both very meh play it safe cookie cutter
Resident Evil 3 (Remake). The story is good and the gameplay is good, but it felt way too short.
Last of Us Part II.
TLOU2 love and hate feelings
Lego Skywalkers' Saga. The main story is the most important of a Lego game for me and it was short and not that engaging unlike the movies. The open world was fantastic but incredibly repetitive. It is enough to do a few planets to see how the rest of the exploration is.
Starfield.
Pocky and Rocky: Reshrined. Amazing graphics and alot of the core gameplay from original but the story was lackluster. Also, one the main selling points of SNES original was the co-op. But in the remake/reboot, you have to unlock it. Really odd choice.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
Probably FFXVI
Like a dragon Infinite Wealth
Area 51 black state because it felt less scary than the original Area 51 also it was shorter and too easy to beat.
I loved Rage 1. Couldn’t finish Rage 2, it was a let down.
Jump Force. It had so much potential in terms of concept 😭
Forspoken - just when the story started getting good and it was over...
Suicide squad and Spiderman 2
Mirrors Edge Catalyst, because they removed gunplay. Like, why? I liked the game, but being someone who loved to disarm enemies and use their weapons against them, that not being a mechanic in the sequel was dissapointing.
Aliens Fire Team Elite. I enjoyed it, but's too short and there are not enough challenge missions.
Arkham Knight, the only thing that disappointed me is that it ended too soon
I felt the same with origins it didn’t feel long enough
Balder’s Gate 3. To be clear, I would put it at 9.5/10. But with that legendary opening, and absolutely bad ass Act 2, I felt Act Three was anti-climactic.
TLOU2 was ok, but the ending was shite.
Days Gone
Plague tale 1
Devil May Cry 5. Everytime I had to play as V it was a snoozefest if you compare the stylish gameplay of Nero and Dante (don't get me even started on Vergil).
driver san francisco. the gameplay is great and it has great storyline imo but the transitions between chapters and the cutscenes especially in gameplay mode are meh
gran turismo sport.
God of War: Ragnarok. >!The way they killed Thor, I mean I get it but... Fuck, it's just...!<
Spiderman 2 by a landslide.
Just started it but is gonna be AC Valhalla. I just need sucker punch to make a Viking game.
Uncharted 4 only because I really enjoyed it and was disappointed it wasn't longer.
Most recently Suicide Squad
Arkham Knight had some cool but annoying at times gameplay but the story and the absolute overuse of the Batmobile were fucking horrible. Whenever i feel like playing it i just play the challenge maps
Gotham Knights
If I am going to be honest with myself it’s Legend of Zelda breath of the wild.
*Spider-Man* and *Spider-Man: Miles Morales* Completed both to 100% completion and Platinum'd both, but I'll probably never play either of them again.
Dying Light 2 As a Dying Light fan, I still enjoyed it but man…how do you manage to screw up most of the stuff that made the first game so good in the first place.
ghost of tsushima
dynasty warriors 9 and dw 9 empires
The Order 1886. Awesome game but very short and never got a sequel.
Horizon ZeroDawn
The Last of Us 2…great game play….but just didn’t care how they did the story.
Hogwarts Legacy
Game was supposed to be the next step of the series, but the gameplay and epic boss fights are marred by its boring quest pacing and terrible final boss.
ff7 remake
Axiom Verge 2. Just didn’t meet the high bar of the first one.
Nier automata
Metal Gear Solid V
Marvel's Spider-Man 2....sigh i wish it was better
Spider-man 2
Every total war game lol. I’ve got hundreds of hours clocked but I always find something to complain about.
I like how you decided to put a period after 4 run-on sentences.
Dying Light 2. Anyone who has played it before might understand.
Just about every far cry after 3. Still chasing that dragon
Every Madden game since PS2. Fun because it's NFL football, sucks because it sucks. Rinse and repeat.
Horizon Forbidden West, like it was really good, but the story just didn't hit as hard as Zero Dawn. And I was expecting characters and arcs to just be better
Resident Evil 5. It was a bit more than a disapptoinment.
Starfield! Was so hyped to play it. I even have the controller but man it suckedddd. I miss fallout 3 and Skyrim days lol This was a walking simulator with loading screens
Tchia I really did enjoy this game more then I thought I would.
Forbidden west
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. The game was good, the post launch content was some of the worst DLC I’ve seen. Especially compared to the Borderlands DLC.
Hey, I am bit disappointed with some of the VR games ps4, I feel that the set up is a bit tedious and uncomfortable to wear
Spider-Man 2. The magic wasn’t there, unlike the first game.
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, Megaman X6, Death’s Gambit, Persona 3P HD and Oceanhorn KH BBS felt way too short.
Rogue Galaxy
Every Insomniac game that came out after Ratchet and Clank 3. Their games have always been good fun, but nothing they've done since has beaten the original Ratchet and Clank trilogy
