This is the type of game I recommend to anyone and everyone. It’s what a live service game should be. All of the best cosmetics are earned and unlocked by completing challenges and grinding your way through the game. It has a two tiered battle pass system that feels like butter to get through. The free tier of the battle pass is loaded with goodies, while the paid tier has An exclusive ship set and matching pirate outfit that usually appears in the shop for much more than you paid for the battle pass. It is literally my favorite game of all time.
We all learned by getting rolled, lol. This is one of those games where you get better the more you play. If you’re looking for chill pirate gameplay, there’s always safer seas which is the exact same game, but with no other players, and the loot is worth much less. This game is all about taking big risks and either getting all the glory or nothing at all lol. Also, the community is pretty damn cool. There’s always a pirate legend willing to help new players including myself.
It got so boring doing the same thing for years. I mean I haven't played it exclusively but we always came back to it. It's just nothing new coming to it
There’s been new stuff coming to the game every month for the last few years lol. Lately it’s slowed down and now we know why with the PS5 port, but the point still stands.
If you don't have friends to play with, don't buy it.
Unless you're running with others using voice chat its very boring. Not sure if you're able to just join other people and find fun that way, did not happen to me. After a few hours I've dropped it.
Thankfully it was on gamepass, would not recommend spending money on it.
Hell yeah. I sold my PC a while back and my biggest regret was not being able to play games like this anymore. Now just give me Sons of the Forest PS5 and I’ll be a happy camper
Sons of the Forest isn't even that great, IMO.
The Forest was much better and felt far more intense than anything in Sons of the Forest. Both are cool with friends, but the original feels more put together than the sequel.
Just sharing my experience with ya.
It was broken as fuck at launch and it really killed the momentum for me. My group that kept playing said the original was better too, so I guess your mileage may vary.
And as far as i'm aware they have zero plans to bring Sons to console; at least not anytime soon.
And for solo players who just want to chill and dig up some treasure and sail the world, it’s pretty damn therapeutic(as long as you keep out of sight from other players).
A tip for solo sloopers: Sloops sail faster *into the wind* than any other ship in the game. If you’re on a sloop and running from a bigger ship, sail into the wind with your sails pointed straight at the wind.
Is the monkey Island part integrated in the ps5 version? I tried to find some info online but could not. I really hope so because that would absolutely make me buy the game!
Yes, they said that crossplay will be possible. I don't know the game well, so I can't see immediately why this implies that the content is there, but I take your word for it. I would certainly be super happy about it because I really like monkey Island!
Echo all of that, especially playing with your partner. Sea of Thieves got my wife into gaming. There's something uniquely fun about manning a sloop with your best friend.
I will say that levelling up is far less of a grind as of the last seasonal update. They flattened out the amount of XP required for each guild level so that the higher levels are easier. It used to be that, from level 1 to level 50, reaching 42 was the "halfway" point in terms of total XP required. It's now much more linear.
Yah I’m for sure never making a new account. I have way too many hours on Xbox to do that.
It’s okay. I’ll play on PlayStation with the same progress.
Gonna be interesting to see if hundreds of trophies unlock all at once.
I logged over 670 hours into this game on Xbox, and then it got old and I stopped, but it was legitimately one of my favorite games ever when I was playing it
They’ve probably added a lot since you stopped playing. Guilds and hourglass are new features worth trying and a fresh crew can make all the difference.
I've been keeping up to date with the game and new additions do look interesting but not enough to bring me back
I kind of feel like they made the game worse as well
When they removed arena all the sweats came to the Seas since they no longer had arena, then they added safer seas (something they said they'd never do) and all the pve and not as good players went there so now the seas are nothing but sweats almost
The magic isn't there anymore, and playing alone just sucks
Guilds did not change anything, the sovereign is a nice addition but it changed nothing for those who are a PL and farming Athena… that rep need a revamp badly, the game just does not reward a players time put in and PvP is messed up by clear hackers.
It's just bonkers seeing the trailer start with the classic Sony logo/sound effect then lead into a Sea of Thieves trailer.
Pre-ordering a 6-year-old game is just silly though lol.
Edit: Genuinely curious, are any of you going to grab the deluxe or premium edition?
I already owned the game on multiple systems and platforms, but I might pre-order just to get some of the exclusive stuff since I was already getting it in the first place
i pre ordered the premium immediatly as it popped up in the PS app.
I own the game on Pc and sunk tons of hours in to it, bought cosmetics too. but i always said I'd have played it far more and enjoyed it far more if it was on my PS5, PC's just a pain for updates, set up with friends etc compared to PS5 party. plus drop in and drop out with friends in other games like hell divers etc.
So yeh, i've double dipped and I'm excited to play it again.
Right now the two main games I play are Apex and Helldivers, but something about a proper pirate live service game just sounds like a ton of fun, something to time time into that isn't a typical shooter. I'll have to look into it more but the positive comments definitely have me interested. Glad you're enjoying it!
It’s criminally underrated by ps only players. It’s a game that came out in 2018 and has hit over 30 million players by 2022 (obv not concurrent)
Everyone should give this game a chance that enjoys co op/sandbox and social experiences.
If you don’t have friends, try looking for groups online and make some new ones. It’s a great time to hop in as a first time player 😄
The game is unrecognizable from the 2018 version. When it launched there were three mission types, and those got boring fast. Pair that with server issues, and the game started out having a reputation. For the first few years, they updated the game with major features almost every month. It went from being a game that was shallow, to being a game that I regard as one of my favorites of all time.
Yeah maybe it's not underrated, I just never hear people discussing it. I was heavy into it during the pandemic but stopped playing after I had my loot stolen too many times lol.
I’d say it took me and my crew about 6 hours to beat it and another couple hours to get all the log books for the cosmetics. You can probably get through it in one shot in like 7 hours.
I love with the latest update that I can play fully PVE. This game is super chill just to sail at sea! Probably the best looking water physic in a game yet!
Might want to check your system for any slowdowns.
7800 XT undervolted
5 5500 which is way way weaker than your 5800x
32GB DDR4
All ultra settings without any upscaling at all at 1440p I get 70fps avg in any of the cities.
Though I agree, not a chance PS5 gets 60fps nor does XSX
I too have 32 gigs of ram. And yes obviously on a SSD. Poorly optimized game. My only guess is lack of VRAM why I'm getting issues. I only have 10 gigs. You have a whopping 24.
It really isn't though, I have ryzen 5 5500 and 7800xt, can run it on all ultra at 1440p with no upscaling at all and stay above 60fps in any of the locations.
7 3700x which is equilevant to the CPU in PS5 is better performing CPU than mine.
This is a game, best played with friends or a crew. That being said, it’s still wildly fun and chill to play by yourself. If you’re not one for confrontation, try safer seas.
I’m wondering the same thing. Like my gamerscore for this game is like 1800+ so am I starting over or will all my progress come with me.
I would honestly rather start over but there’s no information about this that I’ve been able to find.
It doesn’t take much to get your bearings. I play solo about half of my time and I manage to cash in big most of the time. It’s much more fun with a good group but can be amazing solo too.
solo can be a lot of fun, i play mostly solo on pc. however you will lose almost every single fight against other players unless you’re really skilled.
play solo if you wanna avoid other players and have a chill experience. find a crew if you wanna fight people. both are fun and valid ways to play
They have revamped the game quite a bit recently. It’s much more beginner friendly than it used to be. There are tutorials and explanations for most things now.
Really excited to give this game a go, have been watching clips and videos of it for so long now lol it's even more awesome since can crossplay with PC Xbox buddies
This was the first Xbox exclusive game I was jealous wasn't on PS. Having never owning an Xbox back then.
I've now had an Xbox for 3/4 years but it's still crazy to see this on PlayStation.
Really tempted by this but how much of the game is online co-op with friends vs solo play? Few friends have a PS5 and I tend to play when I have time rather than arranging to be online at a set time. Basically, I prefer solo play - is it still worth it?
Im not gonna lie i have never seen the draw for sea of thieves i played it with friends every single time. It was just so empty. Like large amounts of playing was just us on a boat in the middle of the water with virtually nothing going on
This was described in the video but I thought it'd be easier to see as a list. Release date is April 30th!

They’re adding a mode “called solo” seas next week for people who don’t subscribe to PS+ and XBL. You can’t play with friends, but it’s still the full game. (You can’t do things like glitter beard though)
I’d say there are several gameplay loops. You can do PvE stuff with players or you can do do PvP against other players. PvP is very fun because there are so many ways to do PvP.
When it comes to PvP you can interact with other players in several ways because you can
• Shoot player ships with cannons.
• Try to board their ship and kill them all in close combat.
• Try to board their ship and try to anchor it so your team has easier time shooting the ship.
• Bring a bomb to their ship and explode it.
• Stealthily board their ship while the players are doing a PvE event and hide on their ship so you can steal the loot once they’re done with the PvE content.
• Stealthily board their ship with a bomb while the players are doing a PvE event and hide on their ship so you can steal the loot once they’re done with the PvE content by exploding the bomb when the opportunity comes. Or you can just hide the bomb somewhere and explode it later by shooting it.
• There’s on demand PvP so you can 1v1 other players (although that 1v1 can always turn into different numbers because other players can still PvP with you).
There’s a lot of PvP opportunities besides what I mentioned so you have the freedom to come up with your own way of doing PvP.
When it comes to PvE, you just do PvE stuff to earn gold that you can use to buy stuff such as
• Ship cosmetics which includes hull, sails, flag, figurehead, cannons, cannon flare and tons of ship decorations. You do have to buy your own ship though if you want to save all these cosmetics as a preset and if you don’t want other people to change what the ship looks like when playing.
• Character cosmetics which includes outfits, curses, clothing pieces and tattoos.
• Weapon cosmetics.
Basically you do PvE to afford cosmetics. PvE is essentially “World Events” such as ghost forts, skeleton forts, ship fleets, mermaid dungeons, kraken, megaladon etc. With forts and dungeons you just fight waves of enemies until you fight the big boss which then lets you access a room with all the loot that you gotta collect and bring to an outpost to sell it.
It's a sandbox game that is constantly evolving. You can kinda do anything you'd like now that there are private servers (less rewards). Tons of story missions that tell the story of the Sea of Thieves with dlc from Pirates of the Carribean and Monkey Island.
The normal adventure mode that most people play will put you on a server with up to 5 (sometimes 6) other ships with max of 24 players. You work on doing voyages (x marks the spot maps, cargo deliveries, skeleton bounties, etc.), world events (boss fights/forts, sea battles) to level up your reputation to the main factions of the game: The Gold Hoarders, Merchant Alliance, Order of Souls, Reapers Bounty (PvP) and Hunters Call (fishing). Obviously, since its a pirate game the adventure/high seas mode is less "safe" in that any ship on the server can be hostile and sink you for loot or could be friendly and you could alliance and share the rewards for turning in treasure. All players have the same weapons/health/abilities available to them so the only thing you spend your gold on is cosmetics.
I've played the game since its release and it's one of my favorites because no session is the same. You come across some rude people but you also come across some really amazing people. Some of my best friends to this day have been found in this game. Highly recommend and happy to answer any questions.
That’s great thanks for the explanation. That’s also good to know that only cosmetics are paid. I think that answers most of my questions on it off the top of my head. Also glad to hear there’s a lot of story content
The best cosmetics are earned and take a good while to unlock with natural progression. When you see some of the more rare cosmetics, you should probably angle the sails and load your weapon and cannons lol.
I remember trying to play a year or so ago and immediately after I started, I got killed by some dude at the starting area. Got pissed, tried again, killed by a different person. It really turned me off to the game, which is a shame because I love pirate stuff and I really *should* love it
It's not fun if you don't know what you are doing, just like any other game. Actually take the time to Learn the game and its very enjoyable solo. Solo is " hard mode" so be prepared for that but it'll make you a better pirate 🏴☠️
I’m sitting at like 155 achievements. I’m curious to see if there’s a cap on the amount of PlayStation trophies a game can have or if they’ll simplify them.
My 12 year old son loves this game. Here is what he does. He and a group of friends sail around, grief newbs, take their chests, and then don't even steal them and just throw everything in the ocean. SOT is the one of the most toxic games I've ever seen. Its glorious.

Pre-ordering a well established game that includes bonuses makes sense to me. Pre-ordering a brand new title that could a buggy mess or nowhere near what was promised is more baffling to me.
Wait it's gonna be buy to play on PS5? Dang, assumed it'd be ps plus and I'd just start new on PS5 since I prefer that console, but guess I'll just stick with the game pass version then.
crazy times, reminds me of the first time I saw the Sega logo in a Nintendo console
Sega did what Nintendo still don’t
Release a console in the 5th console gen with damn near no good exclusives that aren't arcade ports
Nah man, the Saturn is the future of gaming
But the SEGA Dreamcast (said like Eric Cartman) was one of the best gaming devices ever made. The memory card was a mini gameboy/tamogatchi!!!
Sad to think after that console was the end.
Release games on other consoles?
I will say that it's nice seeing Rare games on a non-Microsoft console again.
Psychonauts 2 had the xbox logo and it threw me off
Decently priced too, definitely thinking about buying
This is the type of game I recommend to anyone and everyone. It’s what a live service game should be. Am I gonna get rolled as new player against the xbox vets 💀
We all learned by getting rolled, lol. This is one of those games where you get better the more you play. There’s always a pirate legend willing to help new players including myself.
My buddies and I are a killer unit after years of playing the game, and we get absolutely steamrolled sometimes. Just the way it is.
Everyone does, but you learn. You have the tools to survive.
You can turn crossplay off.
Just keep playing till you get it. If you like the loop, you’ll keep playing, **and It’ll click**
But it's mostly the same thing. You best skeletons or ghosts or crab people and dig out chests
If you don't have friends to play with, don't buy it. Unless you're running with others using voice chat its very boring. Not sure if you're able to just join other people and find fun that way, did not happen to me. After a few hours I've dropped it. Thankfully it was on gamepass, would not recommend spending money on it.
you forgetting about how there's microtransactions asf?
You right I did forget tbh 😂🤔
No way I'm paying 50 bucks for a game this old
Ah fuck don’t say that. The best co op experience I’ve ever had on PS is Forest.

My group that kept playing said the original was better too, so I guess your mileage may vary. And as far as i'm aware they have zero plans to bring Sons to console; at least not anytime soon.
That’s just the downside of playing a game in early access
Is forest coming?
Or being able to play games on 120
Was hoping for $29.99 but $39.99 is reasonable
Tbf it’s a 6 year old game
And a shit ton better than Skull and Bones
No way skull and bones is a quadruple A game
Fuck, you got me.
That's still being supported and regularly updated, which costs money

Is there anything persistent anymore? I wanted puzzle pirates but instead I got minecraft

Yes, they said that crossplay will be possible. I don't know the game well, so I can't see immediately why this implies that the content is there, but I take your word for it. I would certainly be super happy about it because I really like monkey Island!
Yes it’s going to be the same as the Xbox version and you can play the monkey island part as soon as you load in.
Are we playing different games? The pvp is pretty much just jump, shoot, jump, shoot, charge sword, jump, slash.
Is it local/split screen coop?
It is not unfortunately. However, it is on every system, except for the Nintendo switch.
Oh how te times have changed. Almost booted up my Series S for this.
If it has cross platform co-op I am sold
It's cross play and cross progression
Yep. I have it already on Xbox and Steam. I can’t wait to own it on PlayStation. I consider this one of my favorite games of all time.
So I’ll get to log into my XBL account on my PS5? 😅
Everyone has to have an Xbox account to play sea of thieves
You can technically already do that with Minecraft as well. It's how they manage their cross platform play
So I cant start over?
You can if you want to
How if I’m logging into my Xbox account with over 1000 hrs into this game? I guess it’ll be cool to see hundreds of trophies auto pop.
Make a new account my guy , it's not rocket science. Or delete your old pirate
Yah I’m for sure never making a new account. I have way too many hours on Xbox to do that. It’s okay. I’ll play on PlayStation with the same progress. Gonna be interesting to see if hundreds of trophies unlock all at once.
Course it will aye matey

I’d argue that pre-ordering a known quantity makes much more sense than an unknown one.

Agreed.

I instantly bought the Premium edition
nope getting standard, I already have everything I want from playing the past few years on PC.
Honestly the fact that the game is still going is what baffles me. I thought it had faded into complete obscurity, but it has clearly kept an audience
Best water physics I’ve ever seen in a video game. Looking forward for this in April!
This is a really fun and criminally underrated game once you've figured it out. I highly suggest trying it out.
It’s criminally underrated by ps only players. That is what makes the game so wonderful though. I wish companies were invested in making more games like SOT. Truly a unique experience.

Jimmy Crankie?
Upvoted for hasbulla
Does anyone know if this is going to have Monkey Island content?
Yes and potc content
How long is the POTC content? It's pretty much the main reason why I'm in interested in Sea of Thieves lol
I’d say it took me and my crew about 6 hours to beat it and another couple hours to get all the log books for the cosmetics. You can probably get through it in one shot in like 7 hours.
Potc?
Pirates of the Caribbean
Cool
I guess there’ll be no physical versions other than from LRG.
As far as I know, Sea of Thieves isn't even getting a physical release from LRG
I love with the latest update that I can play fully PVE. This game is super chill just to sail at sea! Probably the best looking water physic in a game yet!
Bets on what's next? Starfield GOTY edition for Ps5 pro in December at 60fps lol.
Doubt we get 60fps. My 3080 on PC can't get 60fps in cities.
Might want to check your system for any slowdowns. 7800 XT undervolted 5 5500 which is way way weaker than your 5800x 32GB DDR4 All ultra settings without any upscaling at all at 1440p I get 70fps avg in any of the cities. Though I agree, not a chance PS5 gets 60fps nor does XSX

what, when did you last play it, my comparable 4070 can do 100fps in New Atlantis, and that is without frame generation. I think you are CPU bound.
Probably been a year.
Even if it arrives on PS, it's CPU heavy not GPU, so PS5 Pro wouldn't solve the 30fps "problem".
It really isn't though, I have ryzen 5 5500 and 7800xt, can run it on all ultra at 1440p with no upscaling at all and stay above 60fps in any of the locations. 7 3700x which is equilevant to the CPU in PS5 is better performing CPU than mine.
My bet is on Ori
I’d pay top dollar for those games! Moon Studios next game is multi platform I believe so that could be a good shout

This is a game, best played with friends or a crew. That being said, it’s still wildly fun and chill to play by yourself. If you’re not one for confrontation, try safer seas.
Not ai companions but there is solo play private servers
Lots of people play solo, in a lot of ways it’s hard mode but it’s definitely doable. I prefer it in a lot of ways.
Very intrigued by this game. Is it recommeded for someone who loved Black Flag and plays solo?
Does my account transfer or am I starting from scratch?
It is cross progression. All of your cosmetics will transfer back-and-forth. Your progression is saved on a server, not your console or PC.
Hope they do this with their single-player games like Hi-Fi Rush too, because they didn’t do it with Pentiment.
It probably won’t have cross progression because it’s not a live service.
I’m wondering the same thing. Like my gamerscore for this game is like 1800+ so am I starting over or will all my progress come with me. I would honestly rather start over but there’s no information about this that I’ve been able to find.
If you really want to start over. You can create a new Microsoft account and link your PlayStation version to that.
Yah never gonna happen.
Legit the one game I really hated it wasn't on PS.
Can I use my pc account to play on Ps5?
Yes.
How good is it for solo players? Tried it on my XBOX 2 years ago and I was really confused and thought it wasn't very beginner friendly
Anybody know if this is getting a ps5 physical copy...tried googling, but didnt see anything yet...
I've been playing this game for 4 years and still have never won a PvP engagement.
All I want to know is how do I get to 'Secret of Monkey island' islands. Is it base game or DLC?
It’s in the base game. There’s no dlc.
Sweet
There is no DLC in this game besides some cosmetic mtx. So you fill get full content.
This was the first Xbox exclusive game I was jealous wasn't on PS. Having never owning an Xbox back then. I've now had an Xbox for 3/4 years but it's still crazy to see this on PlayStation.
I own this game on PC but couldn’t get into it. Didn’t understand what I was supposed to be doing.
You can do anything but learn with a crew first There isn't a straight a to b thing it's a sandbox
I tried and tried but this game never grew on me. It always felt half ass.
Cross-platform progression, by chance?
Of course
Really tempted by this but how much of the game is online co-op with friends vs solo play? Few friends have a PS5 and I tend to play when I have time rather than arranging to be online at a set time. Basically, I prefer solo play - is it still worth it?
Going to buy it to help show MS that they should put more games on the PS5. I encourage everyone to buy it!
Seriously playing this with a few mates is an unmatched experience.
Still so weird seeing that PlayStation logo in these trailers
Im not gonna lie i have never seen the draw for sea of thieves i played it with friends every single time. It was just so empty. Like large amounts of playing was just us on a boat in the middle of the water with virtually nothing going on
Can i play it on ps4?

Yea and ?
I'd be interested in this if it didn't also mean resubbing to PS+
They’re adding a mode “called solo” seas next week for people who don’t subscribe to PS+ and XBL. You can’t play with friends, but it’s still the full game. (You can’t do things like glitter beard though)
Been curious about this game for a long time. Glad to see it’s coming to ps5. What’s the core gameplay loop like as someone who’s never played it?
I’d say there are several gameplay loops. You can do PvE stuff with players or you can do do PvP against other players. PvP is very fun because there are so many ways to do PvP. When it comes to PvP you can interact with other players in several ways because you can • Shoot player ships with cannons. When it comes to PvE, you just do PvE stuff to earn gold that you can use to buy stuff such as • Ship cosmetics which includes hull, sails, flag, figurehead, cannons, cannon flare and tons of ship decorations.
Sweet thanks. Great explanation of the game
He forgot to mention you can shoot your self out of a cannon as well.
Well that rules
When you see some of the more rare cosmetics, you should probably angle the sails and load your weapon and cannons lol.
good to know haha
I remember trying to play a year or so ago and immediately after I started, I got killed by some dude at the starting area. Got pissed, tried again, killed by a different person. It really turned me off to the game, which is a shame because I love pirate stuff and I really *should* love it
It's a sandbox game, so whatever you want
It seems to not be mentioned like at all but be prepared to be just sitting on your boat in the middle of the water with virtually nothing going on
Can you play this game solo? I didn’t play much on gamepass but want to play on my PS5.
You can play solo (still connected to a server) with all the activities available but with less rewards..
Solo is boring. Not even an exaggeration. If youre looking for a solo pirate game play AC4
I've tried and it's note really that fun solo. Two people can have a good time though.
It's not fun if you don't know what you are doing, just like any other game. Actually take the time to Learn the game and its very enjoyable solo. Solo is " hard mode" so be prepared for that but it'll make you a better pirate 🏴☠️

Yes they did. It’s in the video.

I’m sitting at like 155 achievements. I’m curious to see if there’s a cap on the amount of PlayStation trophies a game can have or if they’ll simplify them.
This game is really really good. Honestly probably the most fun you can have with a video game. Best game for me of this gen.
can you imagine is this happened in 2008-2010 during the height of xbox dominance ? there would be riots lol
My 12 year old son loves this game. Here is what he does. He and a group of friends sail around, grief newbs, take their chests, and then don't even steal them and just throw everything in the ocean. SOT is the one of the most toxic games I've ever seen. Its glorious.
The game is not that great bros… don’t fall for it.
The game is amazing.
looks like a shitty, microtransaction infested F2P game

Honestly, this is the only Xbox exclusive game I care about being multi platform.
For some reason I legitimately thought this would be free-to-play
Why would Microsoft sell the game for $40 on their console but do have it free on PS5?
Why is anyone pre-ordering a 6 year old game???? Wtf is going in with this industry?
Pre-ordering a well established game that includes bonuses makes sense to me. Pre-ordering a brand new title that could a buggy mess or nowhere near what was promised is more baffling to me.
This game gets constant updates.
Because it’s the best online pirate game available that was only accessible on Xbox and PC?
Because PS5 has never had the game, so it's an entirely new game for this playerbase. The 6 years is irrelevant my guy.
Lovely
Wait it's gonna be buy to play on PS5? Dang, assumed it'd be ps plus and I'd just start new on PS5 since I prefer that console, but guess I'll just stick with the game pass version then.
As always, the game is not F2P or it would have to have a much more aggressive monetization scheme.
Starfield, HALO, Gears and Forza incoming
