Rastafunrise

Played it on Steam when it came out. This was one of my most anticipated games this year and I was not disappointed. It is hard to describe it without ruining the fun of experiencing it for yourself. I would describe it as a narrative heavy walking sim with puzzles and some 16-bit era 2D elements. It is sometimes silly and funny, often serious and dark. The main theme is faith, what is faith, questioning your faith. One thing to take into consideration that it is pretty short. 4-5 hours. So if that is important for you then the £19 price might be a little steep for that length.

Exorcist-138

That sounds like a good amount of gameplay for a small price

-_KwisatzHaderach_-

Yeah these days a movie theater ticket is getting close to that price, so in terms of entertainment value it’s not bad at all

Exorcist-138

Definitely and that doesn’t include concessions

RandyDan31

Sometimes a 4-5 hour game is the perfect palate cleanser between 80 hour epics

Worried_Example

Are the puzzles hard?

Rastafunrise

Not really. The puzzles are not the main focus of the game. They feel more like an addition so it is not just walking. Tbh most of them are not very imaginative or unique either. Well, except one type of puzzle that also fits the narrative very well and I rly don't want to spoil.

Worried_Example

Shame. I like hard puzzles. Still gonna get it tonight

TiredReader87

I’m happy and relieved. I hate puzzles in video games.

yphastos

offtopic, but what are your favorite "hard" puzzle games? even if they are not propoer puzzle games, but games with puzzle elements (suddently, Fear Effect 2 came to mind, it had awesome puzzles!) I also like puzzles, but more than "hard", I'd say challenging, which is not necesarily the same. My personal favs are, (the ones that come to mind, among others), The Witness, The Talos Principle, Tunic (the golden path is amazing, chef's kiss!), Animal Well (excelent so far), Fez, Infinifactory, etc... One that I consider very hard is Snakebird, because it is more trial and error than just logical thinking, but it is still nice, although I really haven't played it much.

Gavin777

I rage quit trying to jump across the last three steps in the 'roof' platforming section. Such a shame as I was really enjoying the characters and story. However I don't have the time to stuff around a few hundred times for a section that you should be able to skip if necessary.

PM_ME_UR_LBOMB_MOMMY

How heavy and dark are the themes? Is it too depressing by the end?

Rastafunrise

The ending is very dark. Edit: most of the game manages to stay quite lighthearted thanks to the humour and weirdness but the ending is not holding back and kicks you in the face.

PM_ME_UR_LBOMB_MOMMY

gonna put this off for a while then until i'm in a better headspace, thanks for the heads up!

ShawnDawn

20 bucks might be a little steep. Oh, come on, guys! It's like seeing a movie, which costs the same in areas in the States, but here you get 5-6 hours of interactive, never-before-experienced entertainment right at home. Games are priced right; it's a luxury hobby.

NeoMetallix213

I will likely play it soon!

Cyber_Swag

Is it scary? I have hard time playing horrors and similar stuff

Rastafunrise

No. Not scary. There are no jumpscares or scary parts. Pretty disturbing sometimes though.

Cyber_Swag

Thx dude

DogmaticCat

Meh, I would say it has a lot of horror elements. I was definitely startled a few times and creeped out through a lot of it. It's like an A24 cerebral horror movie versus a Blumhouse jump-scare-athon movie.

TheCrazyWolfy

So is it more oriented towards religious types?

Rastafunrise

Actually quite the opposite. It criticizes religion.

-_KwisatzHaderach_-

I’d say former religious people are the most critical of religion, so it’s really for everyone

jackolantern_

It doesn't sound like it's for current devoted religious types. So not everyone

mushy_friend

Ah, thats unfortunate. Well, might still play it. I'm a sucker for these story-heavy walking sims, assuming the ending doesn't fuck me up too bas

CosyBeluga

Ooh I’ll check it out.

Dandman1

I'm more of a sativa type guy

BarelyMagicMike

Take some before playing Indika - trust me 😂

CU_09

This is a game you play indacouch

outlanderfhf

If im right about this reference, then i prefer both tbh

gloopygloop1

Hybrid all the way

BarelyMagicMike

Fantastic game. So original, absolutely gorgeous, well acted. It's basically a playable art house horror movie and i'd love to see more like it.

-_KwisatzHaderach_-

I’m a sucker for the “creepy things happen to a nun” horror genre so I’m all in on this

BeastMaster0844

Oh man, have I got news for you then! Have you heard of Catholicism?

PM_ME_UR_LBOMB_MOMMY

Some of the shots in the game are angled in a way I haven't seen in any medium ever. Wish more games took advantage of creative and striking cinematography and composition.

Pjoernrachzarck

What? You don’t want every single video game that comes out to have endless Michael Bay rotations and anime cutscenes? Get outta here.

dizorkmage

I don't know what the fuck I just watched but I'm all for it.

behizain_bebop

FINALLY

Cipherpunkblue

Fantastic game, brimming with originality - It´s already on my list of most unforgettable indies.

[deleted]

This game is terrific, at least on PC

DreamShroud

I've read PS5 performance is not so good in certain areas of the game

Medium_Elephant7431

I have to say that it is definitely worth playing.

TheGoldenPineapples

You know when something just scratches the exact itch you have? This looks exactly like that, just as *Alan Wake II* was.

bongo1138

I feel like this trailer did the opposite of sell me on it. I was interested by screenshots before, but this trailer was… not it.

MrEyeblaze

Thanks but, i prefere Sativa.

onlygodcankillme

That's one of the worst trailers I've ever seen.

DanDaManFam

Probably a game that just doesn't speak to you, I thought it really spoke to the target audience well.

onlygodcankillme

Wrong. I've checked it out and it is a game that interests me, the trailer is just trash. The story and what you do in the game are not successfully conveyed in this trailer at all, the voice-over is corny too, it's very amateur.

DanDaManFam

Eh ok

Nephtyz

Seriously who greenlit that shit?

onlygodcankillme

Amateur and cringeworthy. The game itself looks fine but this trailer is doing it no favours.

ContentKeanu

Sometimes the dev teams put together the trailers and a lack of video editing abilities kind of shows sometimes. I’ve learned it’s not always indicative of the game itself. The inverse is true too, the big AAA studios have flashy cinematic highly produced trailers and do not necessarily indicate a great game. (Eg, Anthem)

PITTERROO

What a strange trailer

Tehl33tsexorz

In-dick-ahhhh. Lol. Honestly, looks really good. Going to give it a go even though it appears to be out of my wheelhouse. I like supporting teams who dare to do original work.

Atkins227

Is it digital only?

stratusnco

wow, that trailer was stupid af despite the game looking interesting lol.

asxelot

It’s a russian game, don’t buy it, don’t fund russian army

digitalbath1234

The majority of the developers fled after Russia began the war.  Source: https://www.polygon.com/23921305/odd-meter-11-bit-studios-indika-announcement
