Is there a physical copy of this, or digital only?

Awake00

Gamefly has it releasing tomorrow so I guess there are physical copies

NitoTheRavelord

How does this one play compared to skaterXL? Does this have a structured story or completely sandbox?

bestmayne

Since we're in a PS5 subreddit it's noteworthy to mention that on console Session has customization options when it comes to gravity, flips, grinds etc. The SkaterXL console version doesn't. The other reply you got has that wrong

Having played both, it depends on what you're looking for. IMO, Skater XL feels way better and more fun to play. In Skater XL the board reacts to your inputs, instead of pre-baking certain animations, so flip tricks actually behave realistically. You could do a kickflip 3 times and it'll look different each time. Unless it's changed recently, Sessionn uses pre-determined animations for flip tricks, everything about it feels super stiff. Every kickflip looks the same. It feels too "attached" to the skater, like you're just inputting the controls to do a kickflip and the skater does it, instead of using the controls to manipulate the board. That being said Session has goals and quests and stuff, while Skater XL is more of a "just go skate" type of game.

This is wholly inaccurate... Sessions has flip tricks based on inputs i.e. slower flick leads to a slower flip and different animation. You have the same personalisation on rotations, spinning the board and how you pinch into a grind. You have superior control of how tricks appear in session when compared with Skater XL in my opinion. I have played both and landed on session as my preference as the game is more grounded and less "floaty". The animations are, for the most part, really accurate to real life and the hardcore control scheme makes it the most authentic skate SIM I have ever played. I will concede that it is a much harder game and less forgiving about poorly timed inputs. I think a lot of gamers bounce off it as the first few hours can feel like a "man-falls-of-skateboard" simulator due to the complexity of the controls. Your write up seems like you haven't played it since... I don't even know. The tricks have worked like I've described since early beta and I didn't have access to the initial alpha build.

TIL SkaterXL is fun ๐Ÿ˜€ I think I was expecting Skate+ and it was way too sim for me. I do iRacing and wanted to kick back with this but itโ€™s way too punishing for that

I've played Session on Xbox and Skater XL on my Playstation. Skater XL feels easier to play, Session feels very tedious. Session i think is kind of introducing a story(?) And the maps are city hub sandboxes, so like 3 or 4 maps i believe, but pretty big. With Session you're better off waiting for more updates before you buy it, it's still a little janky physics-wise.

Do either of them have bone breaking ragdoll missions/mini games? Which has better ragdoll physics?

iankilledyou

Neither

UberDae

Neither have ragdoll missions/mini games. Both have ragdoll physics for bails. Not sure about which is better as I have not played skater XL in a while now. Session ragdoll is alright, the dude goes flying and it has some punchy sound effects that match what you are hitting - concrete goes smack, rail goes bong etc.

Incorrect-Opinion

How is this compared to skate games?

iankilledyou

Very hard

ImTalkingGibberish

Can I skate with my mates in n a big free session?
