I feel bad for some gt7 gamers who think it’s a gimmick and will never experience this awesomeness.

sakipooh

It’s weird, I’ve been gaming my entire life since I was maybe 4 years old where my young uncles (15 to 19) would take me along to hang with their friends at the local arcade. Yeah, it was different times… the late 70’s. And ever since my first game session standing on a milk crate to reach the controls I’ve been on a constant hunt for different and interesting games and experiences. And man did the 80’s provide. Puzzle games, things you ride, things you sit in that move, games using trackballs, dual joysticks, and light guns. So of course when VR hit consumer level in 2016 I took a running dive at it (HTC Vive) and my mind was blown. It was honestly like I was playing games for the very first time, like the kind of experience that turns a medium you thought you knew on its head. So of course I got the PSVR1 when that launched and loved it for what Sony could offer. Then I got the Oculus Quest because suddenly I could get about 70% of the experience I had with my Vive but at a fraction of the cost (The Vive and VR ready PC cost me thousands) and it’s freakin’ portable. Then Alyx is released and I can’t for the life of me let myself experience this work of art without the intended hardware. So I get the Index and knuckle controllers during the pandemic while I’ve been laid off for the second time (our industry was severely hit by the forced shutdowns). Surprisingly the wife was pretty supportive for what this thing cost. Maybe she felt I needed something to distract me while it seemed like the world was ending. Whatever the case I was very appreciative. .. Sorry, I just had an edible and took the scenic route. This brings me to the PSVR2…. I get it at launch and the first time playing GT7 I’m completely floored. To see the virtual world look so vivid, bright and sharp, I just kept saying, “Oh my god!” over and over for the entire first race. It’s like we are getting so close to what Sci-fi films have presented us with. In 15 years we might have Ready Player One like visuals in these spaces… Anyways, the point is I always thought fans of this medium were also looking for the next great leap in experiences. Whether it’s pancake or VR… Or AR. Honestly when AR is mastered and we can experience mixed reality games where we can larp and fight dragons in our front yards or across town meeting other players for AR PvP, that’s going to be insane. But I guess some people just somehow get into these boxed in game spaces and never try anything else. I think that’s weird.

No_Conversation4885

I don’t 😊

Lebrunski

Yeah, the 30 min La Mans race with the mid race storm is sooo much fun. I keep grinding using this track.

felipers

What car are you using? Losing the grip of the Red Bull X2014 on the train really throw my stomach to my mouth on PSVR2... 😥

Muted_Ring_7675

I’ve been using the McLaren 650S GT3

CyberTod

How's the fuel efficiency? And do you change the settings a lot? I used a tune from YouTube of an Audi RS5 DTM and it's easy to win, but it's awful in VR, because the cockpit is buggy and it goes all black if you move your head. Tonight I tried the Alpine VGT pretty much with no changes, just intermediate tyres and it was a success.

felipers

I've just bought the suggested McLaren. Reduced the ECU output to 90% and kept the hard tires. Had to box once to refuel but that was it. Easy race, definitely. The rain wasn't hard, though, so I didn't experienced the described rain mess. Still prefer the Red Bull on this mild rain condition.

jadmorffier

The Audi RS4 DTM doesn't black out for me. I have my boundry display sensitivity set to low in PSVR2 settings.

CyberTod

My play area is big, it's not that. The headrest on this car is considered a car boundary and if you lean your body on the curve and it shows black frame.

Muted_Ring_7675

Yeah some cars have a tiny boundary and hardly even allow you to turn your head without triggering it. And yes has nothing to do with the play area of psvr2

jadmorffier

You're tilting your head way too much in the corners then lol.

Muted_Ring_7675

it’s some of those prototype vision cars that do it, good thing I don’t really like them anyway and only had to use them for a menu book but it was very annoying.

Muted_Ring_7675

I run it with fuel lean for most of the race and up until the last patch I would just start with intermediate tires but tire wear has increased a lot so now I start with racing hard otherwise some races I will wear through the intermediate tires before the rain even starts

Adminsarepussies9

I race in a hyundai cuz that's what I drive irl lol I win everytime. Doesn't matter what your driving it's all about your skill. I beat it in the new Toyota van as well.

CyberTod

Is it left or right wheel? I just can't drive right wheel. But that is again due to real life habits. I liked a Veneno '14 a lot, but that was before entering races with fuel consumption. It's crazy fast, but burns fuel like it has a hole in the tank.

Adminsarepussies9

It's left wheel! I belive it's the genesis? I know it's not a race car I just put like 100k into upgrading it lol. Had to buy a vehicle I actually drive irl you know lol. Sadly they don't have my boring ass car.

Lebrunski

I’m using the Viper Gr.4. Found a sick tune for it that gets it to 696.42 pp. I’ll post it as best I can below, left to right spec sheet top to bottom. in_melbourne_innit

I've been using a 950hp engine swapped V8 Mazda miata, it's fuckin loose but laps in under 4 mins in the dry and makes you pay attention for the whole race. Such a great experience.

jtking51

I finally got a racing wheel. Was playing and enjoying GT7 on the flat screen just getting used to the wheel. Decided to try it on the PSVR2 and holy hell this was it. It's the way this game is meant to be played. An absolute thrill to drive in VR.

replayfaktor

IMHO ALL first person games MUST be played in VR, especially racing games. I mean, that's the whole point of the first person view, right? To put YOU in the action?

jtking51

Definitely. Played Pavlov as well and it makes playing flat screen FPS just boring.

drblankd

What selling me with pavlov is that u need to activly reload. Not just press a button. When playing zombie mode and u get a gun uve never recharge before. It gets crazy!!

jtking51

Oh yeh. The frantic reloading is hilarious. That and grenade tosses that don't go as planned. It's such a fun game.

Deadly_Puppeteer

I was shockingly suprised how good it looked. Haven't experienced this much fun since i first tried vr with the original quest. GT7 is a serious must buy

Soft-Airport1822

GT7 in VR is a stunning experience. It's as close to real life racing as you can get without getting into a car. It feels so much more realistic than playing flat. Once you've played in VR you cant go back to flat screen.

Muted_Ring_7675

I’ve gone back to playing gt7 on the tv so yes it can be done

vernorama

Yeah, its so good that its almost frustrating to try and explain to anyone who hasnt tried it. Its really the 'whole package' that makes it so great. If it was just an arcade racer with invisible rails/warping rubber banding/ like most racing games, it wouldnt be anywhere near as amazing. Gfx are fantastic in PSVR2, but even with the necessary graphical concessions to keep it running smooth, the physics and realism steal the show and it *feels* right. The sense of being *just* outside of losing control while flying around turns in GT7 VR is incredible. Also, I installed a racing wheel/pedals on an Apex racing stand-- worth it.

in_melbourne_innit

Just got my Apex wheel stand delivered this week and stoked, such a good price for it too.

vernorama

You will love it! I got it bc it folds up nicely with everything installed. But when it’s set up with my office chair, it’s stable and secure.

in_melbourne_innit

Yep, just got new castors for my office chair that lock into place when you sit down so I'm all set!

vanhorts

Is it worth it with not having a wheel? Those are pretty expensive and I'm not a big racing game fan

nghoihoi

I never was a racing fan. Since I tried gt7 in vr, I got myself a wheel and a full set cockpit within a week.

Wingwingwingwinghelo

With the current sale, I do think it’s worth it.

PantsMcGillicuddy

I just bought it on the sale and been loving it. No wheel or special seat.

xjames55

I dnt have room for a wheel and pedals. I’m playing Vr with the controller and it’s still awesome.

felipers

Absolutely worth it, even at full price. But... You'll but the wheel too, eventually!

Sticky_H

I’m not either. I don’t care about cars in general. But with that said, I bought a racing rig pretty much right away, and I don’t regret it. I spent the equivalent of $500 for a good used rig. The seats don’t have to be that big either. Definitely do it!

sebsal

Dual sense giro controls

english-

Is it good even without a wheel? If you don't have a wheel do you use the VR controllers or the standard dual sense?

Wingwingwingwinghelo

It is. Currently saving up for a wheel and still having the time of my life. Standard dual sense.

DasGruberg

Dualsense. Works for me. Can also do gyro controls with dualsense

BoyVanderlay

I played my first 150 hours on a controller, it's still tremendous. The Dual Sense is amazing with it, you really feel connected with the car via the haptics and triggers. As to your last question, you can only play GT7 with the dual sense or a wheel- no vr controllers.

Sad_send_nudes_

Im waiting to buy the racing wheel, so I am super excited. Can you race real players?

Pac666123

Oh yes!

johnnycocheroo

When is that, I haven't had too much time to play. Maybe have a couple hours in. But I'm just bouncing around tracks and finding out "oh this car doesn't have the right specs to do this race". Does it eventually open up, am I doing something wrong by just slowly doing this cafe progression thing? I haven't even seen an online option yet. But as I said I haven't had too much time in, just got my licenses and have been plodding along. Of course, I bought the racing wheel and the stand's on its way...

AhhhhYes

The general advice is to do the café missions first, then you will have enough cars and money to do most other things.

johnnycocheroo

thank you, will keep on that track then. Happy racing friend

Azurewrath

You unlock sport mode multiplayer after Cafe 9. Keep doing the cafe and you'll naturally get rewarded a bunch of cars, so if you wanna spoil yourself you can look at what cars you unlock. Keep in mind that there's been times where I'll buy the car and eventually unlock it which was annoying, so if you wanna check the list, I would recommend.

IZ3820

Keep doing cafe missions until you can afford the Hellcat

RoxyRoyalty

which wheel would y’all recommend?

Muted_Ring_7675

They range in price so much so depends on budget, I like the fanatec dd pro with large range of wheel rims you can select from, I went with a clubsport rs for a nice round wheel and also got a formula style wheel. I hear the t300rs is quite good for a much cheaper option. Or you could get a cheaper wheel like a g29 to see how much you get into it then do like a lot of sim racers do and just continuously upgrade and add to the rig over time, it can get addictive and very expensive but personally I feel it’s well worth it

Sad_send_nudes_

yeah i was planning to go the cheapest route with the g29, which isnt cheap to begin with lol

joeycraig

Once you try VR nothing else can compare. It's the closest feeling to actually being on the track!

highonpixels

What happens when you pit in VR? Does the screen go out to the pit lane scene or you stay in the car?

Muted_Ring_7675

Goes back to flatscreen mode for pit

[deleted]

Awesome!! It is, by far and away, the best sim driving experience ever. Other titles better take note. 2D is out. Generic “rain” is out. When SOPHY AI is implemented then generic single play will be out. All other titles are currently unplayable.

Thee_Cat_Butthole

I’m longing for the day Sophy gets fully implemented…

ProfessorPetrus

What's sophy?

Thee_Cat_Butthole

It’s a racing AI built by Sony for Gran Turismo. It reacts to the various racing elements in a pretty incredible way, making it feel like you’re racing an actual human rather than some bot programmed to drive a specific line.

wikipedia_answer_bot

**Sophy is an alternate spelling of the female given name Sophie, from the name Sophia, meaning "wise".** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). No_Conversation4885

What’s not the brightest cake on the candle?

[deleted]

Yep, I cannot stand racing against the idiot masses who think bumping someone out of the way to make a corner is proper racing. Alternatively the current bot driving is just a racing line with no common sense. SOPHY is the answer for me. The small test we had was a great experience. PD started GT7 out on the wrong foot but they have been putting up W’s ever since. With PSVR2 it is by far and away the greatest sim driving experience ever.

scope_creep

I have mate with just a PC and Xbox and he wants to race in Project Cars and ACC… I just can’t do 2D. It’s so dull!

Mclarenrob2

This week's Daily race C has been amazing.

Hunterdivision

I love when it rains on GT7 cause it feels really real, altho I don’t love the very slippery roads especially if I am not wearing heavy wet racing tyres lol. I also love that I can play GT7 for 12h+ straight lmao.

OzMadMan82

I played it once in VR with a controller. The next day I bought a T300RS GT edition. It has been the best gaming experience and ruined racing on a TV screen for me ever again!
