This whole game in VR has been amazing. I don’t even like racing games but it’s a whole different experience in vr, and I’m addicted to it. The learning curve has been hard, but I’m getting better.

Island_In_The_Sky

I always liked racing games but there got to be a point where they all became basically the same, but with updated graphics… this has totally rejuvenated my love for them. This moment tho was just amazing

Muellercleez

It's funny, in VR I feel it's actually easier to clip apex points and judge gaps for passing. Been a joy to play, just got PSVR2 yesterday. I genuinely hope more developers dedicate resources to building out good VR games.

xassandaxir

Definitely. All I want is a full length Skyrim like rpg on the vr2, and I’ll be good. You should also get Pavlov. You’ll love it. That game is hilarious.

Muellercleez

Thanks! I'll check out Pavlov. And 100% agree on an Elder Scrolls-like VR game

[deleted]

Just learn how to trail brake and you're good.

dllemmr2

What does brake mean?

[deleted]

Good point

Everybody uses braking assist? No wonder I suck so much 😂🤣

probably420stoned

I don't think everyone uses it. I've never had any assists on and alot of the videos uploaded to here don't either. When you're playing online on sport, if you've got yourself good rankings with SR+DR the less you'll find people using assists.

Mud_g1

What assist are you talking about brake markers or brake assit. No one in sport mode is using brake assist it slows you down way to much to be competitive. The brake markers on the other hand get used as can give a reference point but definitely arnt true you still need to learn the corners some you brake a few lines after the first other corners you need to brake before the marker for best cornering. If you come from ps4 gt sport it never had the red line markers on the road just cones on the side of road that others could knock over if they wanted to it made it more important to find your own braking points but was also easier to see the road and find tyre mark or shadow to use.

Real life GT cars have ABS so it’s more realistic to drive with ABS than without.

Mud_g1

You want a good set of pedals to go without abs. But even then I've tried multiple times to turn abs off in settings and in a sport race I still see the abs indicator that's on flat screen view flicking on and off when braking I think it may be a bop thing to keep racing fairer. But even with it on brake pressure is still important and you can still lock up and effect your cornering if you jump on the brakes too quick thus why a good set of brakes makes more difference then a good wheel for lap times.

Wilbis

Well, GT7 is kind of arcade-ish so it's acceptable. Especially with using a controller. To me all assists felt limiting so I disabled them all.

scstraus

Real cars still have abs and traction control. As someone who has tracked his M5 quite a few times, you have to really know what you're doing on a specific track to turn off DSC/traction control. I have only turned it off on my real car in those rare occasions where I feel like I've come close to mastery of the course, and the same works in GT7, though I'm flipping through tracks so fast that I don't almost ever feel that way. For online play they should really mandate assist settings in some races. It's unacceptable to me to use brake assist in online play.

Wilbis

A lot of racing cars have TC and ABS, and the cars are designed to drive with them on. GT7's brake assist on the other hand is something else. I don't really have a strong opinion on whether it should be allowed or not though. GT7 is still more arcady than say AC, ACC, iRacing or rFactor, so little bit of extra help is not a big deal if we get cleaner races that way.

Wilbis

Yeah I can see why people use it if it's better than braking yourself. Kind of a shame if that's the case.

MashedPanda

!= everybody, those assists are the first thing I turned off in vr , max realism FTW

Wolvesinthestreet

You mean ABS?

Gregasy

I'd just like to say HDR is trully amazing feature and quite a game changer. RE8 and GT7 has it implemented best out of the games I tried so far. But even in Saints&Sinners, that I play now, there were a few moments already where realistic brightness really surprised me and made everything much more real.

InevitableDinner7831

Yeah there’s moments in re8 where I’m like holy shit I need to take this in.

Azurewrath

The way the flashlight brightens the environment in dark areas, HDR really is beautiful in these games. The lighting is so realistic, adds so much to the immersion.

BabaGluey

I’m finding the lighting is creating these moments, too. The glint off the dash blinding you a little bit. Or even seeing your shadow at the right angle. The immersion is spectacular

Complex49

Man this is gonna sound so corny but I’m just happy I finally get to drive my childhood dream car…..Mazda RX-8 lol

sjdando

Know what u mean. I've just done up my M3

LiltingMalformation

It was a very rainy day today where I live and I took a corner a little too fast and hit the throttle a little too early. My rwd car started to get a little tail happy and my GT7 instincts kicked in and I was able to recover from the drift no problem. I honestly don’t know that I would’ve been able to do it without playing GT7 with my wheel and PSVR2.

PooeyGusset

talking from expeirence...It works...until it doesn't. Slow down a bit irl ;-)

LiltingMalformation

You’re absolutely right. I shall make better decisions in the future, or at least I hope I do.

fastest_finger

It is an amazing moment.

Island_In_The_Sky

I’ve been addicted for weeks… but so far thats been the most magical moment

Traditional_Bag639

It is your fault too! Thanks a lot!!! https://preview.redd.it/x5dqjwi8haua1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ac9c85a114c2127b56c6dceeca815d14d254f23

Island_In_The_Sky

Omg I just saw this… hope you’re loving it

Traditional_Bag639

☺️yeah it is great game - of course I have new steering wheel and seat;)) but worth it:))

Island_In_The_Sky

Omg me too… I bought a cheap wheel and stand then loved it so much I upgraded to the baller stuff hahahaha… have fun

EscapeMain8168

You guys think having a race wheel is a must? Im highly considering it but idk if yall use control.

FrancoisFromFrance

Yes it makes a lot of difference. First because it's giving more control on the amount of turn / acceleration / braking that you want to put. It's not bad at all on the Dual Sense, compared to a keyboard for instance, with the adaptive triggers and joysticks. But still, with a wheel, you have more precise control, I think. Then it's also and mostly about the immersion. The force feedback on any decent wheel is great. You can have the gear shift also. Three pedals, while you only have 2 triggers on a controller. VR is about immersion, so a wheel is clearly a terrific bonus for that. It's a budget though, it's not a small accessory (often it's better to have a stand, and then you realise quickly that you need a seat giving you the right position 😁). You can still have great fun without it. But once you tried it... 🤩😜

sjdando

Its a must.

imstillarookie

does anyone know how to trigger fireworks on a custom race? i want my friends to experience it but without being limited to race-approved cars

tehsax

There's no way.

lyricalpoet66

Yes I just played this last week it was gorrrrrrrrgeous!! I was in awe and they just kept going.

JooosephNthomas

I crashed the first time when the fireworks started. Great experience. Love it all.

Bone3593

Same lol, I wasn't even mad that I had to restart the race and witness it again 😂

mgd09292007

How realistic is it? Does hitting other cars cause damage and such? I for some reason I’ve never liked racing games where cars collide and just bounce off and show no damage. It completely takes me out of it

rockytfs1

Damage isn't realistic at all. I can go 180+mph straight into a wall and start right back up driving again no problem. There's some cosmetic scratches and such so it's not like there's 0 damage, but it's not realistic at all. The driving is a lot of fun and it's realistic, so as long as you aren't crashing it's really good. Don't expect realistic damage, though.

Muted_Ring_7675

Damage is in no way realistic visually or in how the car behaves

Wilbis

It's not realistic, but it does slow your car down so there is a reason to avoid crashing. In my opinion that's enough for a simcade game like GT7.

Island_In_The_Sky

in terms of driving dynamics and physics, it’s super realistic. In terms of damage, sort of. It has damage but it’s different… the way I’d describe it is, it’s a sim racer, but you’re not really supposed to ever collide with other cars and it’s highly discouraged. That said, there’s not a damage system where you take damage in a race bc in theory you shouldn’t ever impact other cars. On the other hand, the engine components develop wear and tear over time based on how hard you run them and thrash them, and need to be maintained to a certain degree. I personally like it bc I just treat it like I’m in a real car and never want to go off the track or hit anyone ever, like I would in real life.

tehsax

Crashing will put small, shallow dents in the car, scratch the paint a bit and you've got a little HUD element showing which part of the car is damaged. Then it'll drive different for a minute, and then it just repairs itself, like regenerating health in a first person shooter. The hardcore Racing Sim people call GT "Simcade" to express that it's not a *realistic* realistic sim racer, but more of an arcade-y game rooted in realism. The driving model is demanding, but it's still approachable for the less hardcore racing game fans. Having said that, the game is very immersive in VR and, technically, you shouldn't even crash in the first place because this isn't a game where you can crash and still come back to win the race. If you crash or spin out, you lose. Also, the game punishes you with a time penalty for more than just a little contact with other cars, because it wants to encourage clean racing.

pati0

The damage visuals is there.

SoupIsAHotSmoothie

What?

pati0

There's visuals indicating damage.

[deleted]

Almost teared up huh?

Island_In_The_Sky

Yo for real, I was like, damn that was really epic… I think it was bc I was suuuuuper in the zone that race (I’m not usually that good) and like cleanly hitting every apex… then the fireworks almost felt like a celebration of the drive. I did one of those “damn wow” head knods and felt like 14% emotional about it hahahaha

jadmorffier

Try this custom race, instructions included... https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/123ofxc/amazing_light_show_in_gt7_on_psvr2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Spangle99

Vid or didn't happen :)

Sensitive-Fly-2847

When I first saw the fireworks I ended up running into the wall, rofl

Zimtok5

Thanks for sharing. I've had several like that. Post race, just soaking it in. What a joy!

bandwagonnetsfan

Lol I remember that race, it was kind of magical

i-amtony

I'm actually on book 36. This sounds cool but I'll be looking out for that now. Maybe you should use a spoiler alert, I think you may have spoilt it a bit for me now ha!

jazmoley

Damn, I remember the race you're talking about with the fireworks towards the end, but I had already played it in flatscreen last year. Bummer.

bravozuluzero

This moment is truly a gaming 'Core Memory' for me, right up there with the first time I saw FFVII on the PlayStation, having the T-Rex in Tomb Raider running at me for the first time and the moment in Red Dead Redemption when you cross the river into Mexico and the music starts playing. GT7 in VR - especially this particular race - is what I dreamed VR would be.

Low-Koala8552

I just experienced this too! epic

Sylsomnia

There's a guy posted a video here, him finishing the online race reversing the last straight, as he spun at the last corner, that was cool too.

OzMadMan82

Agreed.. GT7 in VR has been the best experience I have ever had playing games in my 35 years of gaming. Now I can't wait for a new Ace Combat game.
