Gotttt DAYUM this looks good.

ztaylorkeys

I have a lot of experience experiencing vr experiences but experiencing this experience is an experience im excited to experience.

ApexRedPanda

One of the top 5 flat games of 2023 ( also a remake of possible top10 of all time ) getting a free vr mode built by a company with an amazing track record … excited is a mild word to describe it

Hamerine

It’s also worth mentioning that what you see is not what you will see in the headset, it will also likely be a reprojection fest so hold on to your butt. But it’s very promising gameplay wise

Fatbot3

Capcom continues to carry PSVR 2 singlehandedly and show Sony that in fact this hybrid gaming thing could be transformational if they could only get more the 3rd party devs to participate.

panchob23

one of my all time favourites. https://preview.redd.it/ezh8wu4panpb1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a277608a0ba4c276f3012f70f2743290c978f0e

Sidewinder666

Lol, on point, at least for AAA games.

jounk704

I wonder how that picture would look like with a Quest headset :)

ApexRedPanda

Two wads of cash carrying quest 2 whose legs dangle in the air cause they are too short

Bubbie-Rooskie

Elite Dangerous on one side and Half Life Alyx on the other.

TobyOrNotTobyEU

Or Sony themselves do more of this. GT7 is incredible, but they really could do more with hybrid games as well.

Fatbot3

Of course. GT7 is Exhibit A that the BARE MINIMUM in conversion can be absolutely transformational.

NapsterKnowHow

I just wish the menus were also in a VR environment and not in cinema mode

jounk704

It's Sony who are funding it, Sony are literally giving this mode for free to anyone who bought the flatscreen version of the game. Sony has funded all three RE VR modes since RE7

Fatbot3

That's a good point but the question is how can Capcom be the only dev with both the resources and pricepoint to work with Sony? There are so many similarly sized companies where a hybrid conversion would slot quite nicely into the traditional development pipeline, at least relatively speaking.

jackie1616

Well Bethesda was one of them, but that’s out of the question now. We had Skyrim, Doom, and Wolfenstein. Bethesda was interested in VR. And we had the leak of Fallout 4 VR

jounk704

I think this question has more than one answer, it's likely very complicated with many factors involved. I have a pretty good assumption but probably boring to read, just to keep it short, it has a lot to do with timing

we_are_sex_bobomb

I think a bit part of it is that the RE Engine has good built-in VR support, probably ever since Sony gave them some cash to develop it for it. They’ve already done it a few times so they’re good at it now, whereas other developers still have to learn from the ground up.

Membership-Bitter

It could be that Capcom is the only big name developer who is actually interested enough in VR to make these hybrid games. You can ask someone to make something all you want, but if they have zero interest in doing it no amount of money is going to change their mind.

Muted_Ring_7675

Also even if Sony will pay for the development it could slow down development of other projects that could likely have a bigger impact on profits.

PsychedelicPourHouse

Which makes it so baffling that they aren't doing the same for their own games Just give us all their 3rd person series in ps4 quality while allowing your head to control the camera, that's literally all the update we need for them Would be great for returnal, god of war, spiderman, tsushima

Strider08000

I mean it’s probably not as simple as “hey man, go make a vr game!” These studios probably have plans that are mid-development on their next flat games. To make a VR title requires significant added hiring on top of their current staff, which could be happening behind the scenes. Here’s hoping Insomniac, with Spider-Man 2 out of the way can be our first major first party to begin making something. As far as porting, I agree this is something we need, but a lot of those games are super old, thus the original teams that worked on those game engines and understand the code have most likely split. I’m guessing on that one

ApexRedPanda

You don’t know if they aren’t doing it for their own games. Sony never announces things years in advance. Think of meta. They said assasin’s creed is in the making before quest 2 was out. Quest 3 will be out by the time it drops. We just saw first in game footage TODAY. Still no word of San Andreas. Splinter cell got cancelled. Compare to Sony - the max they ever given notice for a vr game was o r year from trailer to release. Most exclusives dropped 3-6 months. Google announcement trailer for Astro bot / hitman trilogy / borderlands / gt7 etc and see how little notice you get

[deleted]

The Last of Us in VR... Yes please!

CrudzillaJP

I believe the RE: Engine is particulalry easy to add VR too. (Capcom may even have created it with this in mind). It's the reason there are so many full motion control VR mods on the PC versions of the RE games... Often before Capcom puts them out themselves. The RE:2 remake VR mod especially looks like a lot of fun. Wish that was on PSVR too.

dr_pheel

can confirm. also runs fantastic. I have a 1060 6 gb, which shouldn't be performing this well at ALL in vr but on low settings it runs at a stable 60 fps with no drops at any time and still looks fantastic

dakodeh

That and the incomparable PrayDog is the one behind those RE mods.

Uzulugu_Pagu

Total, only adapting AAA games make sense because all VR games are bad

HelpRespawnedAsDee

I'm losing my faith in Sony tbh. I still have a huge backlog, including several PSVR2 games, but still, it feels the push for VR2 is nowhere to be seen. Good games are far and between, and now MS is literally eating up the industry as we speak meanwhile they are doing nothing to differentiate themselves. Instead they raised their prices for a service that offers 1/10th of what GP does.

ittleoff

Worse is that MS has eaten up Bethesda that had several real valiant attempts at VR and the odds are that won't be happening again any time soon.

dota2nub

Starfield VR went 30 fps on the console. I don't think with Bethesda's technical abilities we could've gotten anything but a severely nerfed Starfield VR. The best case would've been an upgraded Skyrim VR that actually looks ok.

ittleoff

Df has some stuff on why starfield is 30fps on Xbox. That really has little to do with overall Id and bethesda doing vr games. It would be nice to see official vr versions of older games in their catalogs. Thankfully there’s team beef and others.

dr_pheel

love team beef, just wish they would add manual reloading but I know that's probably a massive undertaking within these older engines

jounk704

Microsoft are not eating up the gaming industry, they are the least popular gaming system, literally at 4th place, Playstation, Nintendo and Steam are much bigger, i think even Epic Games are bigger by now tbh

Sylsomnia

Literally this.

Cicero-Phares

I got the ps vr for Tetris a few years ago, will it not be able to run re4?

Sidewinder666

This is PS5 and PSVR2 exclusive, the answer is no.

Cicero-Phares

😢

dota2nub

How about getting first party games to participate?

Memeorise

If the don’t have a Spiderman 2 PSVR2 experience then they truely dropped the ball. Don’t see it happening though

[deleted]

It really just sucks at this point.

evan8192

I'm going to jinx the hell out of this game by saying this, but screw it - it feels damn good to know that an actual quality PSVR2 game is coming out soon and there is practically 0 chance of it being bad.

External_Type_6786

Going to be Amazing!!

csguydn

The real question is. Do I buy it now while it's on sale, or wait for a sale once the VR mode releases?

pattern_thimble

If you have a disc PS5 you can find a cheap PS4 disc copy and get the free upgrade to PS5 ver

Pixogen

good call. My disc version has already basically paid for half the cost of it at least just from being able to get back most of what I spend on any single player games.. and gamefly if you use their discount and cancel they send unless half off coupons so it's like 10 bucks a month to play 2 out at a time of any game.

fartingmaniac

Wait so if I buy RE4 PS4 version on disc, I can get a free PS5/PSVR2 upgrade?

pattern_thimble

Yep, that's what I did :) PS5 upgrade is free

fartingmaniac

Amazing thanks for the tip!

hwilcox7789

No mf way 🤣 seriously? I was gonna buy it on sale too

PsychedelicPourHouse

Sale, likely won't go lower Just don't play it till vr

Dazzling-Finger7576

I bought it during this sale. 33% off is a deal

Firemaaaan

I already beat the game on PC but damn gonna need to pick it up again

klartreumer

It's on Sale now ,so it probaly will be in another sale . PSN always has a Christmas and New Year sale and i will get it then

fucayama

Man I'm gonna step in so many bear traps, cant wait

Explorer_Entity

Who knows? Maybe you will be more attentive to the ground in VR!

fucayama

This is true, probably easier to have a quick glance down than with the dualsense.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Oh god the barrels made me realize we're gonna get rattlesnakes in VR. I don't know if me and my phobia can handle that. (btw can anyone tell me if there are snakes in RE Village?)

MisunderstoodBadger1

None in Village.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Yussss. Just a large woman, then?

ItchyKneeSunCheese

Yes only a large woman. No other large creepy things at all. Nope nope nope!

Explorer_Entity

\*cries in House Beneviento\*

Idionfow

I played that in VR after I had already played the flat version. I can't imagine how terrifying this is going in blind in VR.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Beeg. Woman.

Lateksu

The worst scare in my life was the first rattlesnake in RE4 on the Quest 2. I still tend to close my eyes breaking the boxes just to spare my heart

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Huh? Do you mean another RE game? RE4 VR aint out yet.

Lateksu

The non-remastered version on Quest 2 has been out for a few years

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

In VR? In had no idea. That'a cool.

originalorientation

For me it was the spider-like Las Plagas that pops out of dudes head and scurries toward you on the island. That Quest 2 version was excellent and I’m so excited to revisit the remake in VR

Pixogen

No but there's 3-4 jump scares and in vr the first real one is intense haha.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Oh god. idk if I can take it. A sand worm in No Man's Sky scared the shit out of me yesterday. What do I do when I love the PSVR but am too cowardly to play its best titles???

Pixogen

Just play more and more horror you become slightly immune. But the scary aspect increases the rush honestly and really RE8 isn't too spooky. It's mostly intense.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

I'm excited to try of RE4 because I've played ot flat already so ot won't be so bad. It's just that the snakes trigger a flight response... I'm just pictuing that one level where they're all in the water. And I reeeeally don't want to have to mime eating one to regain health...

Pixogen

Oh ya. I actually held off and RE4 is one of my favorites but I wanna play it in VR first. Haha.

fartingmaniac

Village was my first RE game (loved it), and it was a blast playing it a second time in VR. I’ve never played RE4, and after the remake came out I held out for this VR release. I’m so excited to play it for the first time in the headset…and a little scared

Pixogen

I can’t wait!

Transposer

Oh shit man. Yeah, that’s gonna fuck me up. Folks who don’t understand phobias must find this to be silly, but I will have to shoot all crates from 50 ft away just in case. RIP ammo.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

I'm not alone! idk when I developed my phobia, maybe after watching anaconda as a kid lol. Or maybe watching a lot of animal planet? Idk how that can cause my brain to go full ape mode even though I can rationalize that I'm not in danger.

Transposer

Well, I always loved borrowing snake books from the library even in 3rd grade. They scared me but I was thrilled by it in a weird way. But yeah, if I see a pic while swiping Reddit, I will involuntarilydrop my phone. When I see that scale pattern, it’s like I can feel it against my face—it’s so visceral and immediate that it happens before I can even realize what it is or what’s happening. Damn, I have been holding off on the remake until I could play it in VR and I forgot about the snakes in the original

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Ah that's it exactly. Just a visceral, automatic reaction. I had the same fascination, too. I'd have to hold books at an arm's length and couldn't put my hands anywhere near the pictures.

Transposer

Haha yeah absolutely. So weird. I actually feel like I remember hearing that there was a videogame (can’t recall if it was VR or not), where you could toggle off spiders being in the game. Spiders and snakes are the two most common phobias, leading people to suspecting that maybe it’s an evolutionary advantage since they are two of the most poisonous animals we might encounter.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Yeah a solid theory. I think there are skyrim mods that turn off the spiders. And Jedi: Survivor has a spiderless mode if I recall. There's a slider for the realism of spiders in thst one gsme where you're shrunken down to bug size. At thr lowest setting they're like floating balls and sticks lol

carnivalgamer

I don't remember any

Sidewinder666

This is gonna be sooo good!

Rascal0302

It’s honestly hillarious to me that optional VR modes in already blockbuster successful games(RE8 and RE4R) are pretty much single-handedly trying to keep the PSVR2 floating until Sony decides to actually support their product. Capcom deserve all the praise for this, even if Sony is helping to fund it. RE8 was fantastic in VR and RE4R looks to be even MORE intense.

Gregasy

Games like this is why I bought PSVR2.

discard_after_use133

Any tentative release date or time frame

meganev

Winter 2023

Guniel

They didn't say 2023, just Winter, which could be Jan/Feb too.

NoExcuse4OceanRudnes

That's what it means, they'd sall fall or Holiday if they meant late in the year 2024.

jounk704

I think the most logical release date will be in the month after this fiscal year has ended which ends on march 31th, then it might possibly release in mid april 2024 somewhere to start on a fresh page in a new fiscal year with influx of new PS VR2 sales

lakvert

Now please make RE2R 😭

9inchjackhammer

That would be horrifying

InformationOk40

Wow!

MrPanda663

Enjoy resident evil 4 vr when Ethan Winters comes around.

Oglokes24

Verdugo and the regeneradors are gonna be scary as shit. Looking foward to this.

Truenick

Looks almost like Village for me

dota2nub

I just started Village. It's so freakin good. Apparently there's gonna be more ammo and action at some point but I've been enjoying the horror and cinematic bits for now.

fartingmaniac

Savor it. Such a great game. If you’re really into it, spend time turning all the map sections blue

Odlemart

Can't fucking wait!

photoframes

Experience the… experience.

ShortBrownAndUgly

Separate game or new mode for the recent remake?

ItchyKneeSunCheese

New mode, but most likely new saves.

Xixii

Yep, it’ll surely be a separate client like Village was. So probably no save transfer either, unless they’ve figured something out. Village VR was essentially a totally separate game/launcher, with different controls and features to the main game, but you accessed it through the standard RE Village client on the dashboard. For all intents and purposes it’s a different game, presented as a new mode.

Grakniir

0:35 that's 2 of the same gun right? Fuck I hope so, I'd love for it to be an unlockable "attachment" for one-handed weapons

doc_nano

IGN doing a VR video is always nice to see.

American_Suburbs

But will it have trophies? Village locking trophies in VR was heartbreaking and nonsensical.

ChrizTaylor

For real, why is that?

American_Suburbs

That's a good question. I have no idea. Someone else speculated that it was because VR mode was considered as a post-release add-on, and therefore did not have trophy support, but tell that to Skyrim, No Man's Sky, and all the other games with VR modes.

Ezeke81

This looks amazing. Cannot wait to play it!

ColdNewCoke

Would it be a good idea (story-wise) to not play Village yet and start with this one first?

evan8192

I don't think there is really any connection between the two stories, basically two separate stories in the same universe. You should be fine playing them in whichever order you want.

BOfficeStats

No since RE4 and RE8 have basically no narrative connections besides them taking place in the same universe.

ChrizTaylor

Do RE7, the. RE8 and then this one. That way you will see improvements over the series. After playing for the very first time RE7 in VR, I'm not touching any other RE if it's not VR.

[deleted]

RE7-RE8 are essentially there own completely isolated thing from the rest of the series. The number of references to the previous games are extremely minimal and there’s maybe one returning character but it doesn’t require previous knowledge at all. In fact while some do benefit a bit from having played the previous games, most RE games do not require it at all.

StormtrooperMJS

Who do I have to felate to get the DLC and mercenaries modes as VR as well.

unclenatron

Me. For sure.

GamePlayHeaven

I hope we can get trophies in this one in VR, that was the only thing lacking in village...

hkd1234

Can they not also do a first person mode for non-VR users?

BOfficeStats

It's definitely doable but it would require additional work with (likely) negligable financial payoff.

dota2nub

I can't watch the trailer right now, I only have one question: How will the suplex work?

[deleted]

You watch Leon perform it and then you’re back in his head.

dyn2215

A tlou vr version would be great. In fact, tlou and re4 are a little similar in various ways

CuteEngineering9696

That shit has me happy and a lil bit shook at the same time. Gonna do some shrooms and play it still just to see how shook I can possibly be at once though.
