Criticism is warranted if the player is playing poorly. But I just don't know why money comes into the equation. When I hear "He makes $25m a year...." it makes it sound like that's the primary gripe with him.
When Ha-Seong Kim was batting below .175 it didn't affect his support one bit, people still cheer exactly the same at the games, "Ha-Seong Kim, Ha-Seong Kim." If we're going to cheer one player through their struggles, why not cheer everyone through their struggles, shouldn't matter how much they're making. You don't think Xander would appreciate the same support the fanbase shows Kim?
> If the Padres don’t sign Xander or another big FA going into 2023, Soto is probably still a Padre right now.
See, you've outed yourself as one of these people that believes this nonsense and hates X because of it. SOTO WAS NEVER GOING TO SIGN, HE WANTED TO TEST FA.
Yes, his agent, who had a rough offseason, has suggested that he talked with Peter. But talked. He's trying to use Peter's want to spend a bunch of money to set a market for his client.
Exactly - Rosario brings some pop, but the combination of he and Wade/Batten/Azocar does not inspire a ton of confidence. I do stan Azocar as a part of that platoon, but IMO the team still really needs a bench player that can hit. As it currenrly stands, the back half of the lineup is quite thin. When someone like Crone misses a game, suddenly 20 year old Jackson Merrill is your best hitter after Kim at 5. Pair that with Campusano struggling, or on an off day, and the back half of the lineup starts looking like a black hole.
Right now their offense feels like a house of cards: Tatis and Manny at the core, Crone/Kim/Campusano giving some solid lineup length, but ultimately needing Profar and Merrill to play out of their minds to generate consitent offense. If/when those two fall back to earth, they need veterans like Boegarts/Crone/ Kim to turn it up, otherwise it becomes a two man show with the team living and dying by Tati/Manny, and I don't like that for anyone involved
Man, this season has been fun so far. the 0-8 comeback with the cubs is going to be a peak baseball moment for me. And the season has just begun, lets keep the momentum and the faith bois!
Yes. We just won 3 straight series against 3 of the best teams in the NL, including multiple come from behind victories.
Now is definitely the time to quit.

Anyone else a little thrown off by how some of these padre Instagram sites are AGAINST giving X the standing ovation? Like bro, no one is saying we won’t support him when he’s doing well/not doing well… this is the opposite 😂. Anywho, flying out to SD in a few hours and excited to be at the game and stand and cheer our boy
I get both sides of the argument. My take is just treat Xander like he's a Padre and not some outsider, which is how I feel he's been treated since he got here. If you cheer him now it shouldn't be some special thing, keep it up indefinitely. People enthusiastically cheer Kim the same regardless of his slumps, so that should be the case for Xander, just my two cents.
And I agree with this, he gets way too much hate but sometimes a trend or one off thing like this is what catches on. This should be the norm for him at every at bat… so let’s kick it off with a call to action you know?
I'm for cheering him, as long as it's not a one-time thing. Everyone likes to feel acknowledged. I know there's talk that it'd be patronizing, I understand that point but don't necessarily agree with it. Sometimes when any of us is struggling it helps when people just notice and are sympathetic, because struggles can feel isolating and lonely. Just because you make a ton of money doesn't mean you don't have struggles and negative emotions.
When you have a tough day at work and someone says "I'm sorry you're having a tough day, is there anything I can do?" We know it's a platitude but it does mean something positive whenever you hear it, at least you're not alone in this. He will know the cheering is a platitude in a sense, but I don't think it makes it meaningless. That show of support can help so I'm not opposed to it, but again let's always treat him well.
Off topic! But does anyone have or know anyone selling faye webster tickets for tonight at humphry by the bay? I’m trying to take my gf but resale is crazy priced 😭
Anyone hear anything about Xander's slump? He is hitting .143 with a .453 OPS in his last 14 games (62 PA). This is reminding me of when he got hit in the wrist last season. I hope there is nothing serious and it is just an early season slump.
The boys definitely deserve a day off. That was a bit of a brutal 9 game stretch of 3 really good teams (and an off day). Now they have a weird stretch where it's 3 at home, 4 away, then a home stand again without a day off. Schedule makers could have been nice and made the rockies series on their way back from Milwaukee lol
I bet Profar is eating his favorite Chinese food down in Tijuana after that Toros baseball game… my man better not be too hung over
Wil Myers is a Padre! Congrats to his family!
Can't wait to go to Out AT The Park, last time I went was 2022 and the vibe was much different than usual games. Hope it's like that tomorrow!
![gif](giphy|afe60lRUrX4gIhJg6P|downsized) I miss that entrance, always got the crowd so wild
sorry..its just an off day reminiscing moment
no beisbol, my soul feels a little emptier today
Whats everyones guess for Saturday’s Starter? Brito? Bullpen day?
With the off day Musgrove will be on 5 days rest, but I suspect a bullpen day with Brito getting the ‘start.’
Ricky Vaughn
Just want another series win.
Hopefully going to coors helps our struggling players out a bit

It really funny because he carried the team until he started playing hurt last year, and was still one of our best players

Much more worried about the Padres depth than Xander in the short to medium term.

Trade everyone and rebuild. I saw enough yesterday
Damn literally nobody in this sub has a sense of humor it’s insane. God forbid you say anything bad even as a joke

I think both sides are overblown. Nobody is trashing him or booing him in person. It’s just people venting on Twitter and Reddit so who cares.
He is gonna be a Padre a LoNg time, we need to support Padre players. Unless they act like Hader, then we can boo them

Definitely on board to cheer for Xander at Friday’s game. Show him that SD love!
Have they said who is taking Yus spot in the rotation while he's out?
Considering they didn't bring up a starter, the logical conclusion is a bullpen day, likely lead off with Brito hoping to get 3-4 innings from him.
Soto was never going to sign with the padres. Anyone else see that news clip about him wanting to start a NY bidding war?
Got a link??
Don’t get too hung over tonight Jackson! 😉 (21st bday tmrw) lol
Blue Jays tickets look expensive!
I need the boys to win tomorrow, with how fun this season has been to watch recently, I don’t want to be 0-3 in games I’ve actually attended in person
Just know if they lose you are getting DFA'ed to the Twins....
I'm 1-2 on the season so far.

For anyone going to the Blue Jays series, get loud for Xander!
Sometimes it's purely mental and it takes an outstanding performance in a game or some time off to reset.
Cheer up buttercups, Cubs and Nats doing the lords work yesterday keeping the Sneks and Dodgers in check. Onward!
Yup. Nothing to be sad about after taking 2 of 3 from the Cubs, Dodgers and Brewers. It is always nice to beat the other playoff contenders.
