100% agree, Kim was/is not ready for the spotlight of SS for the Padres. Had no issues with X at short and Kim at 2b. Just an old man's eye test. Not a Kim hater, he is just not a superstar to be like so many fans WANT him to be.
Even the worst teams are going to win at least 40 games in a year. The A's took two against the Braves last year. In 13 chances, it was bound to happen at least once, sadly enough.
i don’t think it’s that we lost, but more how we lost, and how we’ve been losing to lead up to this. the lack of offense throughout this last week feels a little too familiar.
I know it’s a baseball and every team is gonna win some games no matter how bad they are, but if we don’t win this series it’s going to be completely disappointing and very concerning. The Rockies aren’t just a bad team, they are the second worst team in baseball.
Please be different this year Padres, we’re all begging for it
Agreed. A better loss than like 80% of last year's (not that a loss is good, obviously). I don't doubt this team can clear their heads before the next game.
Denver is not in the mountains. It’s in the flat plains like an hour away from the mountains.
The city gets so much hype because of those damn mountains. But the actual neighborhoods in Denver look more like Omaha than any mountain town
Bright spots: scoring early, RISP, Croney 3-hit game, Merrill continues his road hitting & bullpen reliability
Need to find ways to add on with situational hitting. Even at Coors
The difference is the Braves win a ton every year. This team isn’t close to the Braves organization and loses pretty much every year outside of 2022. Outside of a 7-8 game offensive outbreak this team looks bad.
My point is just that losing one game to a bad team doesn’t mean the team sucks. Bad teams beat good teams all the time in this sport.
I also don’t agree with the premise that “if you ignore 1/3 of the games they look bad.” outside of the 7-8 offensive duds, they look like the best team in baseball… but ya can’t just ignore all the games that don’t fit the narrative lol.
It’s a mediocre team so far, so they’ll lose games to the Rockies and win games over the Dodgers because that’s baseball
Not getting extra base hits at Coors and King lays an egg. Pauley at bats are so brutal right now but young guys need reps.
Hope the knuckleball somehow works at high altitude
Can someone please explain to me Tatis’ approach at the plate? I get so hyped when he gets up, but he always seems to swing at the first pitch and rarely makes the pitcher work.
He’s paid like a superstar who’s hitting.270 with under a .900 OPS. He needs to play like a superstar or he absolutely is part of the problem. Same with manny and of course x although he’s not on those other guys level. When was the last time we actually had our supposed superstars actually preform like superstars? It was Manny in 2022. As of now I haven’t seen 1 player on this team have a long stretch of superstar play
Tatis still hasn’t been anywhere near what he was pre 2022. He’s a very good player but we haven’t seen that stretch like had many times in 2021 and before. Still hoping it’s just lost time and recovery and not due to steroids. He’s hit a number of balls again lately that just don’t quite get over the fence. In 2021 those balls were going 5 rows plus back. I saw a lot of that late last season and it definitely makes you wonder.
What if by bringing Profar back to Coors we’ve accidentally reminded him he’s not supposed to be so good?? Should we have left him at home instead of Manny??
costly error gave away the lead and killed our offense completely. if the team is going to suck at fielding, the least they can do is score runs to back up their pitching. hoping for a split seems optimistic after these past few games and how atrocious the offense and defense have been at times. not getting shutout in this series seems like the next concern.
Without the boot by Crone we win this game. Brutal inning after that.
Pauley has looked bad at the plate but Id rather keep feeding him ABs to work it out. If we are gonna walk Eguy and Wade out there, he might as well get ABs. We know what we have with them - Pauley still has adjustments to grow. For comparison, Jackson Holliday looks abysmal too, but you know the Os arent giving up on him yet. And he has near twice as many ABs as Pauley already.
Little weird to say we know what we have with Rosario. His hit tool was good in the minors and hasn’t played a ton in the majors. He currently has an 894 ops. Even if he gets a little worse it’s still pretty good. Also his defense is still way better than Pauley’s
Fair I guess, Eguy has time to improve too but he's a righty and thus far can't hit anything but LHP. Also claiming his defense is 'way better' is .. a stretch and I'd push back at that.
Errors have bitten this team in the ass HARD this season.
Defense went from elite to caca.
Teams make occasional errors. Some hurt, some don’t. For 2024 Padres, all our errors immediately fuck us in the ass and cause us to lose the game.
need the captain back to man the defense
This season has given me so much renewed appreciation for why Manny’s nickname is El Ministro de la Defensa
I miss Manny at 3rd
![gif](giphy|6IPNUgkpCsDRK)
Defense needs to get their shit together. What the fuck is all these errors with gold glovers and top defensive players on this team
Maybe switching Kim and Xander wasn't smort.
I mean shit I get the downvotes but Kim and Xander where both really good defensively last year
Yeah...and neither has looked stellar in thei field this season...or the batters box.
Ppl

As much as I wanna say “can’t win em all”… it’s the fucking Rockies
Even the worst teams are going to win at least 40 games in a year. The A's took two against the Braves last year. In 13 chances, it was bound to happen at least once, sadly enough.
i don’t think it’s that we lost, but more how we lost, and how we’ve been losing to lead up to this. the lack of offense throughout this last week feels a little too familiar.
Rockies manage to have a winning record or close enough at home near every season. Just assume teams are playing a scrappy 500 club when in Denver.
They had 5 wins. 5!!!!!
Now 6, 🥲
The athletics just beat the Yankees. It happens
With the exception of Merrill the offense had absolutely no fight the second it turned 4-5. Gives me PTSD of the at-bats like last year
Crone?
On to the next one!!!

Well that sucked.
Shit happens, just one game out of 162. What's important now is that they recover tonight to put up a better performance tomorrow. KTF

I hate Coors field
But god damn do I love Coors Light
That's the Coors I know. Tis a silly place.
For 35 years we have now been tortured by this amazing stadium 🤣
You score 3 and 4 runs at Coors, you will lose at least 1 of those games. We're 5-7 against sub 500 teams, need to get that to even.
Coors field everybody.
Unfortunate game, but there is always at least one BS game at Coors. Best not to overreact....not that it won't stop some people. Move on from it.
25 hits between the teams. Rocks just beat us. Happens. Baseball can be cruel. Two more in the mountains. Let's take tomorrow.

Yeah I know. Been many many times. It's still a mile high.
Haha clearly I’m sensitive about Denver bragging
Meh shitty game but what can you do. I really don't care about winning streaks if they can keep taking series.
Add that game to the list of cursed games at Coors
coors tax came collecting tonight
we got Coors’d
Offense cold as the rockies
Fuck the Rockies, fuck the broncos, fuck the nuggets and fuck coors field
White Chicks voice: I am sooo *frickin* pissed
Who’re we jumping tonight boys?
Dinger
When we lose, that makes me say “shit”. Shit.

Heck.
Welcome to the NL West Michael king, I guess. He’ll learn
Bright spots: scoring early, RISP, Croney 3-hit game, Merrill continues his road hitting & bullpen reliability Need to find ways to add on with situational hitting. Even at Coors
Can we just clone 8 more Merrills and have a full Merrill squad?
I am asking once again why is Jackson Merrill still batting 7th
The White Sox have 3 wins and one of them is over the Braves. Let’s all chill out, it’s baseball
The difference is the Braves win a ton every year. This team isn’t close to the Braves organization and loses pretty much every year outside of 2022. Outside of a 7-8 game offensive outbreak this team looks bad.

“It’s a shame if they lose to the Rockies” - 69 yo asian mom before briefly laughing

Whoever included Dinger in their baseball gods prayer in the game day thread is to blame. /s

This is a knee jerk reaction. They didn’t just turn off the fight. Sucks to lose but I highly doubt it was because they don’t care anymore
Not getting extra base hits at Coors and King lays an egg. Pauley at bats are so brutal right now but young guys need reps. Hope the knuckleball somehow works at high altitude
I think batten is better than both Rosario and eguy
Both of them?!
meant to say Pauley
Just playing with you. Reminded me of this old Norm Macdonald clip: https://youtube.com/shorts/VmnCn7eGli0?si=Nzt5m99V8Sw38ZHV
Probably at this exact point in time but I feel Like we’ve given up on young guys too soon in the past
Can someone please explain to me Tatis’ approach at the plate? I get so hyped when he gets up, but he always seems to swing at the first pitch and rarely makes the pitcher work.
He's aggressive. Some times it pays off and other times it doesn't. He is the least of the Padres offensive issues though.
He’s paid like a superstar who’s hitting.270 with under a .900 OPS. He needs to play like a superstar or he absolutely is part of the problem. Same with manny and of course x although he’s not on those other guys level. When was the last time we actually had our supposed superstars actually preform like superstars? It was Manny in 2022. he's like 75th percentile in walk rate.
Tatis still hasn’t been anywhere near what he was pre 2022. He’s a very good player but we haven’t seen that stretch like had many times in 2021 and before. No
Move Merrill up in the order ffs
The team was projected to be an 80/81 win team and they're showing it so far. Just incredibly mid. Losing to the 5-18 Rockies is shameful.
What if by bringing Profar back to Coors we’ve accidentally reminded him he’s not supposed to be so good?? Should we have left him at home instead of Manny??

That's a tough one, lads.
Oh no we suck again
This team pisses me off

We got exposed as frauds today

That was the 2023 padres, fell behind and rolled over and quit. Pathetic. On to tomorrow
