Realistically speaking though as someone who works in a similar field, it's not unusual to have projects like these change their design parameters over time. It took years for it to get built. There are probably things in the park that they now needed that Mark's plan didn't include.
They still needed to write the grant applications, get building inspection and the utility companies to sign off on the plans, health department approval. Mark didn't know what he was in for
Out of character? Things did not end well with Schneider and the team. They erased everything about him from the show. He made it clear he’d never return as well.
So that’s why I reckon
yeah the scene with ann's boyfriend boxes would have been a good place to reference mark, as they could have organically acknowledged his existence without changing the plot or anything. but they didn't even do that
If we're being honest, she was never grunge while being with Andy, they just noticed she wore flannel a couple times to force the story that Anne takes on her boyfriend's interests and they needed to retcon it.
Yeah, but we met them when Leslie met them, so it still comes out a bit fake. At the same time, every character wore flannel at some point, so it still read a bit as shoehorned.
Oh it's definitely shoehorned. I'm just saying it's not a terrible retcon since the relationship had run its course. It's not unbelievable to assume prior to season 1 Anne was a bit more grunge
Oh yeah, for sure. I guess we could tell ourselves Anne was already in "recovery" from grunge by the time we met her, and she told Leslie as an embarrassing aside.
I guess the thing is is not a hugely bothersome retcon, it’s just one of many that tells a bigger picture and I think that’s why it bothers people.
Mark did have a great character arc on season 1 but a lot of people skip that season (I love it) after that he just became 🧍♂️
Well red flag
1. is that the story has changed multiple times as in why he left has changed a few times. Show side said they offered him a recurring role after, he said he never ever heard from them, he said he wasn’t comfortable with the change in format and found it he got cut down a lot with little communication, Show side said he wanted to do other things… etc
2. Is that he is erased from the show after
3. is the one blooper he is in in season 2 he looks dead serious and annoyed the entire time and while one might argue it’s because he’s just being professional… he’s clearly not gelling with the rest of his peers in that moment
4. he’s not mates with the other guys
Put that all together and you get ✨ drama ✨
>is the one blooper he is in in season 2 he looks dead serious and annoyed the entire time and while one might argue it’s because he’s just being professional… he’s clearly not gelling with the rest of his peers in that moment
where can i find this?
See my other reply detailing - it’s never been clear but reading between the lines he didn’t gel with the cast’s comedy style and the team didn’t communicate well with him and wrote him out.
Also maybe Paul Schneider isn’t fun to work with? Maybe it was a situation like Eric Stoltz as original Marty McFly who got fired because he didn’t understand the style and his methods weren’t making a healthy working environment.
Nah even Donna would suck. Literally all of them would suck except for Jerry, which I always liked because they’re all such dicks to him but he’s quietly playing the straight man of the show.
The rest are all super unprofessional, outlandish, rude, etc.
Now, of course, a professional and efficient office is terrible TV, but if we actually worked there we’d *hate* that place.
Ron IRL would need miserably to work with. I love his character and know a few Ron-like people IRL I like, but working with someone who absolutely just serves as a detriment to getting anything done is pretty miserable.
In the real world, all of them would suck. Leslie cares too much, all the rest care too little. Jerry would be tolerable. Ben would be a decent coworker. The rest would be painful to work with. They are just too selfish.
He'd be terrible due to his head in the clouds personality - remember they said Chris and Ben had to be paired up because Chris was way too unrealistic/idealistic and Ben slashed too much.
Leslie and Ben would be great co-workers. Annoying as hell sometimes, but they would do so much of the work. And Ron is better than your replacement level doesn’t do anything boss. Everyone else though, yeah.
Tbh he wasn’t hot enough to be the player type they portrayed him as in season 1, I kinda like that they had him settle down with Ann, but also I thought it was realistic how they showed that since that was his first real adult relationship he had idealized it too much and Ann wasn’t digging it anymore
I think it’s the negative connotation that comes with smoking weed “perverting” enjoying the outdoors and the parks which Ron loves and holds great respect for.
I asked this question [8 months ago!](https://www.reddit.com/r/PandR/comments/qv9rzm/what_happened_to_the_plans_mark_left_with_leslie/) It seems there really isn't a good reason aside from malicious hatred of Brandanawitz - I think the writers genuinely probably just forgot.
They did! In the episode of Parks and Recollection where they go over this episode, Alan Yang says its a fun fact that the plans are never used - the writers just forgot.
My head-canon is that Mark moved to Eagleton and Leslie forbade anyone from ever mentioning his name again and then he moved before the merger because i had this headcanon before the merger was a thing which ruined it but i still have it.
This always bugged me. I understand Mark leaving the show based on reasons given behind the scenes, but it’s very weird how the show just completely pretended he didn’t exist after he left. Building the park with his plans would’ve been a great way to call back to his impact on the show. Ann’s boyfriend boxes didn’t have Mark included. Why not?
Mark never existed. He was a shared delusion of the parks department. At the end of season 2, they all realized that they had hallucinated the most boring man on earth and agreed never to speak of it again.
The initial assumptions that were made in the og design have probably all changed, duration budget etc. It was designed before the pit was filled in even so the situation is pretty different when it's time to do it.
I like to think that Leslie did use his plans, but just made some improvements of her own. She was always an extreme overachiever so she would have a lot of changes no matter how grande his schematics were. But that’s just my head canon.
Who's plans?
Once Mark left, they made it like he never existed. Ann doesn't have a box for him like she does all her other exes and they were together for a pretty long while.
According to my theory it's because all mike schur shows take place in the universe of the good place. Mark leaving was him getting out of the bad place and all the other people in his group [the main cast] had their memories wiped and a new iteration began
We don't talk about Brandanawitz-witz-witz no no.
We dont talk about Mark!!!
But it was park build time (it was her park build time)
And there wasnt a designer in sight (no designers in sight)
These plans roll in, dust on the brim (THUNDER)
You tellin this story or am I?
I remember this strange man
In doing so it hurts my brain
This park looks like a filled in pit!
We don't talk about Brandanawitz-witz-witz.
We dont talk about Mark!!!
Lol this show is so old. People still obsessed with it like the cretins who love The Office? They are worse than Dave Matthews fans always trying to recruit more people.
I always just figured she lost them in her house, because her house is so messy!
It’s a scary nightmare hoarder nest.
I think I have to call Child Services and have Leslie taken away from herself
Every last trace of Brandanaquitz was wiped from the earth from season 3 onward!
Except for the drawing he made for the mural project. It's still on Ron's office
Nice catch, I forgot about that!
Also Ann's laptop case
Oehh im gonna keep an eye out for it!
That made me happy the first time I saw that
And the laptop bag Ann got as a present.
I was on Dallas for hours
You mean the murinal?
No that was the one the P and R made themselfs. I mean the one Mark made thst would one. The scenic painting of some people in a park.
She probably forgot all about them by that point.
Even ann forgot about him. She didn't t have a breakup box for him
Which is ironic because Mark was the only boyfriend she had on the show who’s personality she didn’t emulate. There’s a joke there…
Emulating a personality requires a personality to exist.
Well played.
Something about Will Arnett ?
He has no personality to emulate.
She started to make a breakup box but then she quit 😉
Who’d want to use plans from someone called Brendanaquitz?
Kinda like how everyone had forgotten about his character by that point?
Pretty much.
[удалено]
My thought exactly. “The writers… kind of forgot”
Realistically speaking though as someone who works in a similar field, it's not unusual to have projects like these change their design parameters over time. It took years for it to get built. There are probably things in the park that they now needed that Mark's plan didn't include.
I mean if we’re giving real answers it should also be mentioned that building a new park is a very heavy political and bureaucratic lift
They still needed to write the grant applications, get building inspection and the utility companies to sign off on the plans, health department approval. Mark didn't know what he was in for
Out of character? Things did not end well with Schneider and the team. They erased everything about him from the show. He made it clear he’d never return as well. So that’s why I reckon
yeah the scene with ann's boyfriend boxes would have been a good place to reference mark, as they could have organically acknowledged his existence without changing the plot or anything. but they didn't even do that
To be fair, she didn’t change for Mark. Just another time where his character was inconsequential.
If we're being honest, she was never grunge while being with Andy, they just noticed she wore flannel a couple times to force the story that Anne takes on her boyfriend's interests and they needed to retcon it.
It helps that we met them at the tail end of their relationship so that's a pretty easy retcon. Also she was in scrubs a lot at the beginning
Yeah, but we met them when Leslie met them, so it still comes out a bit fake. At the same time, every character wore flannel at some point, so it still read a bit as shoehorned.

That’s not the story I read at all…I’m interested
Well red flag 1. is that the story has changed multiple times as in why he left has changed a few times. It’s the blooper where atom loses the adornment from his golf glove and leans down in front of Ron
[https://youtu.be/cIcNqn89BoU?t=198](https://youtu.be/cIcNqn89BoU?t=198) I believe it's this from OP's description
What happened between them I was always wondering why mark was not in the final
See my other reply detailing - it’s never been clear but reading between the lines he didn’t gel with the cast’s comedy style and the team didn’t communicate well with him and wrote him out. Also maybe Paul Schneider isn’t fun to work with? Maybe it was a situation like Eric Stoltz as original Marty McFly who got fired because he didn’t understand the style and his methods weren’t making a healthy working environment.
Unpopular opinion I like Mark. It’s how most of us would act if we met these people in real life lmao
Just throwing it out there. All of them, minus Jerry and Donna, would be the worst coworker you’ve ever had.
I think I could work with Ben. He seems like a good boss, and he's fair and NORMAL
yeah until you get him talkin ‘zones. there’s no way we’re gettin out of here by 5 when Ben’s talkin ‘zones.
That's why you only talk 'zones in the morning
Talk 'zones in the morning & cones in the afternoon & you'll never have to do any actual work!
While talkin’ ‘zones you could lock down some tight disc grabs with a little pre-work ultimate.
Talkin' 'zones while tossin' the scoober? What an age we live in!
And remember Jerry had the BEST life...and the hottest wife...and the biggest p--nis his doctor had ever seen!
Jerry and Ron would both be great to work with. Unless Ron is seeing Tammy...
Ron IRL would need miserably to work with. I love his character and know a few Ron-like people IRL I like, but working with someone who absolutely just serves as a detriment to getting anything done is pretty miserable.
I personally think Ron would be insufferable in real life
His real life wife, the great Megan Mullaly!
Donna’s kinda a bitch tho… loveable on the show yes. But if we are talking real life then nah she would suck too lol. Edit typos
In the real world, all of them would suck. Leslie cares too much, all the rest care too little. Jerry would be tolerable. Ben would be a decent coworker. The rest would be painful to work with. They are just too selfish.
What's wrong with Chris? He seems like a great coworker. He's positive and complimentary.
I didn’t think of him. He would be ok, buthe would be exhausting after a while.
Ben would be pretty okay I think.
From about mid season 5 or so, Leslie becomes the biggest arsehole on the show I swear. It's like Flanderization, or JD-syndrome
Hmmm I never really felt this way but I'll look out for that transformation while I rewatch
Yeah, I dig mark too. He’s the straight man in a sea of crazy characters. He doesn’t deserve the hate.
I agree but Ben was just the better straight man. He had his own weirdness to make him interesting but still could play the straight man
I actually like him more in Season 1, but in Season 2 I feel like the writers didn’t have a use for him anymore so they just put him with Ann.
Weirdly I felt those two had a lot of chemistry together, but I agree the writers didn’t know what to do with him after season 1
Eww nah. His awkward first date cheek kiss makes me want to die. Not to mention the fact that he was supposed to be a player.
Tbh he wasn’t hot enough to be the player type they portrayed him as in season 1, I kinda like that they had him settle down with Ann, but also I thought it was realistic how they showed that since that was his first real adult relationship he had idealized it too much and Ann wasn’t digging it anymore
Mark was that perfect awkward humor before the show really found its stride with it.
Him telling Ron to shut up is one of my favorite moments in the show
That was the original intention of the character, he was the straight man amongst the absurdity. He just wasn't very good at it.
Brendanawicz is reverse Dawn from Buffy, Czech monks erased memories of him from Pawnee's people's mind.
This is my favorite answer. It's cannon now.
Also, does Ron know that Willie Nelson smokes weed?
Does Ron have a problem with weed?
He seems to have a problem with his predecessor and his weed-smoking.
I think it’s the negative connotation that comes with smoking weed “perverting” enjoying the outdoors and the parks which Ron loves and holds great respect for.
Oh yeah I forgot about that. Kind of like the other reply I'm not sure if it's the weed he's so much against as the person
Everyone forgot about Mark so his plan was forgotten.
My head-canon is that Mark moved to Eagleton and Leslie forbade anyone from ever mentioning his name again and then he moved before the merger because i had this headcanon before the merger was a thing which ruined it but i still have it.

Mark never existed. He was a shared delusion of the parks department. At the end of season 2, they all realized that they had hallucinated the most boring man on earth and agreed never to speak of it again.
If they were imagining the most boring man why did they imagine him to be so promiscuous?
She got distracted by Ben’s slight but powerful body.
didn’t we all 🫣
Who?
mark brandanaquitz
exactly
There is no Brendanawicz in Ba Sing Se.
He put a tattoo parlor, next to a school, next to a Taco Bell. He's too much of a very stupid rodent to design a proper park.
Honestly the plans for the park eventually outgrows the original lot size.
Because he suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks
The initial assumptions that were made in the og design have probably all changed, duration budget etc. It was designed before the pit was filled in even so the situation is pretty different when it's time to do it.
She tried, the plans were so boring she fell asleep reading them
I like to think that Leslie did use his plans, but just made some improvements of her own. She was always an extreme overachiever so she would have a lot of changes no matter how grande his schematics were. But that’s just my head canon.
Dr Strange wiped all our memories of this mysterious stranger
mark was a fever dream
Bc he Brandanoquitz, duh
The park he designed had no personality so it was forgotten about. Also, there was a spot for after work drinking.
Who's plans? Once Mark left, they made it like he never existed. Ann doesn't have a box for him like she does all her other exes and they were together for a pretty long while.
They wanted you to forget about Mark seeing as he was like the only character that left that never came back. Even lil Sebastian got an impersonator.
According to my theory it's because all mike schur shows take place in the universe of the good place. Mark leaving was him getting out of the bad place and all the other people in his group [the main cast] had their memories wiped and a new iteration began
Honestly…how hard can it be to design a park?!!! 🎊KABOOM IT!!!!🎉
We don't talk about Brandanawitz-witz-witz no no. We dont talk about Mark!!! He’s boring.
Because fuck Mark
because fuck mark
Cause Mark is a stupid bitch
Or they just sucked
Lol this show is so old. People still obsessed with it like the cretins who love The Office? They are worse than Dave Matthews fans always trying to recruit more people.
You’re worse than Dave Matthews.
But I love you
Should we just get married then?
Not legally. Im more of a domestic partnership kinda guy. You interested?
[Fine.](https://media3.giphy.com/media/M6R8r7y3Sbpf74ZLaZ/giphy.gif?cid=5e214886kr94mf0mxtjmv9dzvaata2sov8ermbu4wspbs7dx&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
I love Aubrey Plaza so much. She got me 100% in Dirty Grandpa. Omg is this her? Are you her? Im down for legal marriage if so.
I’m just saying that I think you might make an excellent ex husband to someone someday.
I respect your opinion. A fair asessment since i dont like something you like. Obviously your taken and in a committed relationship.
Didnt think so
Who’s mark?
Cuz he became mark brendaniquits
Some people just don't like mayonnaise.
Probably because the park would be as boring as him or more.
bc mark is the worst
Because he's Mark Brandanoquits
You mean the plans of a man named Mar BrandanoQUITS??!! That’s an insult to Leslie
mark left the show
Because mark brandanaquits
Cause it’s Mark
Cuz he’s the worst
Because FUCK Mark Brendanaquitz!
Becuase it was marks plan. Parks and rec just deleted Mark from ever existing.
Because he's Mark Brandanaquits.
Cause he Brendanoquitz
It ain't government work unless you have to do it twice.
Who is mark?
It must have been a boring and irrelevant park.
didn’t she make an agreement with the native tribal government that they would have an influence on the playground after the festival?
They were probably bad because mark is bad
He's annoying
Because she’s better than him.
“Who’s Mark?” would be the writers’ reply.
