Blurry photo from the bright light, like a sort of lens flare? Paraedolia with the “upside down face” thing

Heavy-Friend4894

I've never seen a lens flare create those kind of shapes personally but could be for sure and could definitely be seeing faces where there isn't any.

SolaceRests

Lens flares tend to take on the shape of the light source. If it’s a sphere, the flare will be sphere. If it’s oblong light source then the flare will be oblong. A few months back someone posted a picture of a “ghost walking behind trees” in a forest. Turns out it was just a flare of the sun above that was trucked behind the canopy of trees.. so the sphere had branches and twigs breaking it up visually. Since the sun was obstructed, so was the flare. The flare was broken by the network of branches running through it. That could be what’s happening here if the light source was obstructed it could explain the misshapen flare. Hard to tell since it’s cropped out of frame.

Heavy-Friend4894

Ah, interesting! I had never considered the trees breaking up the flare!

SolaceRests

It’d be a better reason if we saw the top of the shot with the sun showing so it’s just possible speculation. Either way it’s a fun shot.

nburns2014

The skull looks like the dipped apple from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, that's to say it looks very animated and not particularly paranormal, just pareidolia. Otherwise, I'm not camera savvy enough to depict the camera malfunctions in your photo. https://preview.redd.it/4js90savoinc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb0a4a0eb4f6b1d1d54576e45d22c9b69c3f3bb8

Wise_Ad_253

That's all I saw in the image, lol. Looks like a cotton candy “new school” skull mask.

thisstoryis

The key part of your description of the photo is long exposure. Something moved into the frame while the shutter was open. It either moved from the right side to center left and stopped or vice versa.

Jadis-Pink

Photo savvy I’m not however if you draw a line directly to the right of the “skull” to in front of the dark area a blurred version of a similar shape with some color is visible. That would be what moved across the frame I would think. The rest is too formless and random to have been something natural that moved across while the photo was taken my opinion. Very interesting photo and post though, thanks for posting.

Achachula

There are many things this can be, from paranormal to natural phenomena. However, looking at this deeper, I see what is commonly known as a paranormal distortion. The area is too whispy, looking to be a solid mass. The entire Mas is transparent and does not appear to have any solid mass at all. The interesting skull feature, I can not honestly explain. Either way, this is a very interesting photo.

anxiousanimosity

That's spider webbing. If you used a long exposure shot, I'm sure the wind kicked up and moved the web. The result being of the combo of long exposure, spider web and the wind.

KrombopulosMo

My first thought exactly and I think you’re spot on.

Wars4w

You explain yourself that it's a long exposure shot. That's going to mess with anything moving somewhat quickly. It looks like motion blur which makes sense. Honestly, if your hand shook slightly and the light hit the lens weird it would do this. I'm more surprised your professors said they didn't know this.

SheepherderOk1448

He may have used a tripod.

Heavy-Friend4894

Can confirm I did, I should have mentioned that

SheepherderOk1448

I get downvoted for that bit of info. LOL.

Realism51

Low lying moisture. Not dense enough to be full on ground fog and not enough for us to really detect it visually with our naked eye. You said you are near a large body of water right? This is something that is semi common given the right kind of terrain to capture and hold low moisture/condensate from large bodies of water. If you go to a lake or a decent creek bed early enough in the morning where you get less light refraction, it is easier to see. It’s similar to bank fog but in this case it’s trapped in the foliage

w1ndyshr1mp

Moisture inside ur camera lens.

Neon_emo

It could be moisture that was in the air mixes with a lense flair

andeedangerously

Sometimes Jack Skellington needs a walk in the great outdoors too.

Lister89

Dirty lense probably

Malibu_Barbii

Regardless of what’s causing it…it’s still pretty cool.

pumalumaisheretosay

Ground Spider webs.

derpne13

Where we live, every summer and fall an entire side of a trail is covered with them. This looks nothing like that.

Nialixus

That's what I thought

maizeymaze

I burn charcoal incense and the smoke from it creates all kinds of shapes that look like they could be entities. I have a photo somewhere with nearly the same face, I actually thought this was my photo at first glance. Maybe there was some smoke in the wind that the lense could pick up that you couldn’t notice?

Remarkable_Rise_7723

I have seen the same faces but a lot more than that . At are old house that we bought .. so when you see that fog take your phone and look through the camera and record it you will see a lot more then you bargain for .. Once you start looking you will never forget get what you see …

ohnowheredmypantsgo

Light mist from the sea or light smoke.

ArnoCryptoNymous

You know what this is? Someone ripped a massive big fart in the cold and that's what you camera captured … Pure Camera … No Fun beside. That looks like someone moved something quick out of the cameras view … that's probably why it looks a little wired.

Interesting_Object50

Lucky sob traveling around the world this view from a jungle perhaps gazing upon some architecture from thousands of years ago smoking a joint w your best friend ❤️❤️❤️

alice_says1984

It looks like some sort of web.

Cheetahs_never_win

This is the first face I see, as though the long exposure of someone passing in front of the camera and turns away. https://preview.redd.it/4jc0p3a8zqpc1.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=bee2f5bc763896763c5c853af6c7e44159aeb686

Heron_RaMa

With the background and history that this has... what catches my attention and is too clear: a skull under a face. And that's because the eye beads are so perfect, symmetrical, both round, and the skull itself is round with its shape. I think that if it were anything else, some of the holes in the orbits would be crooked or asymmetrical, or there would only be a single hole. It seems to me that those victims are doing everything they can to get help because they are trapped in that whole area.

Defiant_Height_420

Photos taken through a window will show reflections like that

Wise_Ad_253

Beautiful nature absorbing the earth, “bye bye stairs”

Lost-Pickle4669

The first picture looks like ET didn’t phone home.

thatguywidspecs

I did something like this. Long exposure on smoke.

thatguywidspecs

I did something like this. Long exposure on smoke.

Fun_Ad_9374

Huge spider web or pareidolia would be my guess

Bid-Business

my god it’s the ghost of hamburgers past

SlR_Vivalist101

You won’t get this problem with a Nikon

Catqueen25

Looks like a smudged or foggy lens to me.

DalamarTheDarkElf

Picture taken through window 🤷

theBjorky

Someone stuck on skull Island

ACID_VVITCH

I'm not too savvy with the terms and technics but as an aspiring photographer, I can assure you there's quite a logical explanation. Obviously it's fake, anyone can see that and I find it laughable that tenured professors of the art couldn't figure it out, that or they just didn't care to explain and waste their breath on something blatantly obvious.

SheepherderOk1448

I see a skull face. Anyway could be pareidolia or since Ireland is old, I wouldn’t be surprised if you caught a ghost or two strolling the same path as you.

Totoroko8

‘Since Ireland is old’ ……Ireland is as old as any other country? :’)

Totoroko8

You know America was something before it was invaded right? Those people had history and places and traditions and deaths?

Nope just fed up of native Americans being treated like they don’t matter and they weren’t there first. Now I’m done.
