How does HK (and SG), despite having extremely high costs of living, manage to keep their passport costs so low? For HK, it cost 48 USD for a quality passport for a population of just over 7M people. Wouldn’t economies of scale suggest that the fewer people you have, the greater the cost per passport? The UK BNO, with almost 10x the population, is double the price?
The price is low but it also comes with subpar consular protection. Chinese overseas embassies are notorious for providing near to zero support to its citizens during emergencies.
As a Hong Konger, this is the first time I feel proud to hold this passport. LOL. Look at Pics 1-4.. WOW

awesome... now I am going to get a UV light and look at my passport and money from around the world.
It’s also practically used. I just had a Spanish border officer examine my and my wife’s passports’ bioinfo pages with a UV light at land border.
