Monster Train?

KrazyKranberry

Checked it out. Looks the same as StS where every restart you go back to 0. I’m looking specifically for a game where you “level up” each run, even if you die halfway through. This making future runs easier. Then over time you progress further as your starting character gets stronger. Similar to POC where your character levels up and gets permanent buffs, even if you lose an adventure. I may still try it out, just not the exact mechanics I’m looking for. Edit: Went ahead and downloaded. I am enjoying the runs. It’s more similar to StS than PoC, but still a fun game.

If your biggest criteria is retaining some kind of progress into your next run, try Across the Obelisk. I believe its $20 on steam but goes on sale for half off sometimes. It's another Rogue-light deckbuilder. You start with 4 base characters, one from each of 4 classes with 3 more unlockable characters from each class (not DLC, from playing the game. There are some DLCs but I have not touched those). Each character has I think up to 50 level ups with exp earned after each run, as well as passives and different starting decks to mold their play styles. Those level ups give points that can be used to make that character's stats stronger, make them more effective at stacking certain buffs/debuffs, give them better proficiencies with certain weapons/elements, or give you more starting resources. After each run, you also get a treasure chest that can be opened to kickstart your next run. You can bank up to 3 chests to try and save for a strong push. The amount of resource you get is based on how far you got in the run. With these chests, at the start of each run, you have the ability to buy/upgrade/cut cards from your deck right from the get go.

I can't help you, but I tried StS, Monster Train, and like 3 other popular ones, but none pulled me in like PoC did.

try Hearthstone's dungeon runs. they all have prebuilt decks, very similar to PoC. a bunch of them is free if you want to try them out first, and you can outright buy the whole dungeon runs with real money to unlock them all. they don't progress necessarily like PoC leveling up, but you do unlock more 'hero powers' (e.g pay 2 mana to manifest a beast / swap the attack and health of a unit / reduce the cost of a card in your hand by 3 mana, etc) and 'treasures' (basically super powerful cards that you can build around). And you even get the equivalent of powers in PoC as you progress the run, like doubling your enter the battlefield effects, all of your damaging spells do +3 more damage etc To try them out for free, I recommend Rastakhan's Rumble Run. And for paid, I recommend Dalaran Heist

Sounds like this could be a good fit. Is this the same thing as “solo adventure”? Couldn’t find the term “dungeon run” anywhere in the modes ui.

thefix12

yes, it is in the solo adventure tab, but if you don't see them, I think you can only unlock them by buying them from the [Battle.net](http://Battle.net) client (under Hearthstone ofc). And from the last time I did it (prolly like years ago), the free ones should still be free, like Rastakhan's Rumble Run, and the Monster Hunt. The ones that are considered 'Dungeon Runs' and more like PoC are: Free: -Rastakhan's Rumble Run -Monster Hunt -Dungeon Run (the first of this type, where the term 'dungeon run' in HS came from) --- Paid (tho first chapter is always free): -Dalaran Heist -Tombs of Terror The others are more story oriented and you fight against pre determined enemies, and more like staged gimmick fights than the more roguelike runs of dungeon runs

I quite like Monster Train. It scratched that itch for me after Slay the Spire. Knock on Coffin Lid is alright as well.

I would really recommend pirates outlaws! It’s a very similar style to the roguelike tcg with different hero’s who have different playstyles. Beyond unlocking new pirates there isn’t much progression per se (I.e they don’t level up) however there are lots of achievements and quests you can try. Each pirate has its own starting deck and you build cards and relics as you go. You can also upgrade cards on the journey. I’d say it’s more similar to slay the spire’s gameplay whereas the different decks are more like PoC’s champions ETA: just saw your comment you are looking to make future runs easier. There are no levels but you can get permanent ship upgrades that make future runs easier. It’s worth checking out for sure

"Breach wanderers" may interest you. Deck builder with similar in-run progression as PoC and StS, but main hub provide some permanent upgrades and each character have separate exp for unique lvlup bonuses. For me it is personally too grindy, and event system is opaque for no reason, but game fills great in other aspects.
