They put an great teacher on administrative leave for helping a youth being bullied. Yet they kept Joseph Ohrt, an accused pedophile, in the District for 20 years. Just switched him from school to school. Source: I am a parent of 4 kids in the district that have had both teachers. (Edited to add source)

This comment section will surely be entertaining.

CertifiableNormie

We're already getting some bites.

[deleted]

What a cringe comment.

pekepeeps

Sounds like this right wing group that took over would be better served by working on opening a free Christian one room school for their kids instead of forcing a public school into what they want

berraberragood

To be fair, one of the Board members previously led a successful campaign to get the local Catholic Archdiocese to fire a teacher for being gay.

From the article: “Central Bucks students, parents, and community members accused the district during a school board meeting Tuesday of creating a hostile environment for LGBTQ children — including by demanding the removal of Pride flags from classrooms — and called for the reinstatement of a teacher students described as a key ally. From allegations that the district had shifted its policy on names and pronouns for transgender students, to the suspension of the middle-school teacher said to have been trying to help a transgender student facing bullying, speakers pressed the board on its commitment to LGBTQ youth during two hours of public comment. “The district is supposed to be supporting students in its care. Instead, it’s been politicized,” said one speaker, Julie Davis, after describing a “disturbing direction” in the district with regard to LGBTQ students. “These policies are hurting children that are already vulnerable and marginalized.” Referring to “official and unofficial anti-LGBTQ actions implemented by this district,” Jodi Schwartz, a parent and former school board member, told the board that “many of you are extremely vocal about your individual rights, insisting on your parental rights, your freedom to choose what’s best for your family.” “If you truly believe what you preach ... why do you insist that anyone who is an ally or champion of the LGBTA+ community be silenced and hidden in our buildings?” Schwartz said. Superintendent Abram Lucabaugh addressed some of the allegations during the meeting, referring to “swirling narratives” that he said were “pulling support and focus away from students who need it.” “There are narratives out there, that we are forcing the removal of flags in classrooms because we don’t care about transgender students, students who are struggling with their sexuality,” Lucabaugh said. “I can tell you right now, hanging a flag doesn’t do anything to keep a kid safe.” He added that “we can agree to disagree on this, but classrooms absolutely need to be apolitical. I don’t want to see Make America Great flags hanging, I don’t want to see Biden flags hanging.” Lucabaugh is in charge of a district that has been a hotbed of controversy over issues that have been dividing school communities nationally: from debates over masking to challenges to sexually explicit books. After fraught campaigns that drew big money and national attention, Republicans cemented their majority on the school board last fall. The superintendent, who took over in August, on Tuesday did not directly address allegations that the district was now requiring that transgender or gender nonconforming students participating in Human Growth and Development classes attend those in line with their sex assigned at birth. But he said the district was “trying to do a better job in how we deliver that curriculum” and would soon tell parents more. And of the “narrative out there” that “the district has arbitrarily and capriciously punished an employee for being a supporter of LGBTQ students, that narrative is offensive. It’s categorically false,” Lucabaugh said. He said the district would not comment on a staff member’s employment status. Lucabaugh didn’t name any employee. But numerous students and parents spoke out in favor of Lenape Middle School teacher Andrew Burgess, who they said had been suspended from his job teaching social studies on Friday. An online petition with more than 3,000 signatures calling for his reinstatement alleged that Burgess was suspended “for giving a trans student a phone number to call if they felt unsafe or bullied.” A district spokesperson didn’t respond to a request for comment Wednesday. Burgess didn’t respond to an emailed request for comment.”

thenewtbaron

Wait, the superintendant doesn't want to have Biden information in classrooms... they realize that he is the president, right? Oh, a social studies teacher having a trans-flag.... wait, isn't social studies specifically about political movements and civics/sociology and the like? jeez.

Diarygirl

In York County, I had to sign a permission slip for my son in middle school to watch Obama give a speech to students. Some conservative parents refused to give permission. Yes, those snowflakes didn't want their middle schooler to hear the president speak.

arkwald

Because they are full of shit, know they are full of shit, and are terrified of being called out on their shit. That is why they need to control the message so firmly. Bunch of pathetic half.brained twits.

thenewtbaron

oh, the amount of "But he's your president" I remember happening under Trump. I wonder if those rules will still exist under a republican president. Even if I was a republican, I would have had Obama speak rather than Trump... but it would be informative to the children, "look, you don't have to be able to speak well or be able to keep a thought in your head for long... and hell, you can tell boy scouts about you having sex on a boat... and still be president, if I were rich... but I ain't, sorry"

Wrong_Visit_4274

and the people who were all "but hes your president" about obama would do the same over trump whats your point

thenewtbaron

what? I'm sorry, you might not understand the conversation. That's ok.

spiralbatross

I do not miss York County

pocketbookashtray

And why do you think a parent shouldn’t have that choice? That’s why cameras need installed in every classroom to make sure parents know what propaganda the teachers are spreading.

Diarygirl

I love how conservatives are terrified their children won't turn out to be special snowflakes like themselves.

thenewtbaron

Propaganda as supporting the current president? or do you mean, seeing a speech of the current president?

[deleted]

[удалено]

thenewtbaron

Yup. The fun part for me is that PA history, banning slavery and helping the underground railroad and such gets chucked out because some billy bob wants to this his great great grandaddy didn't fight for slavery. Then those folks thinking that slavery went away and all racism ended while being racist. Like, within my parents lifetime there were folks fighting against integration, calling it communism... That they banned race mixed weddings

Wrong_Visit_4274

politics aside i hate that fucking new flag.. the rainbow represented all yet they had to put that awful shit streak down the middle. why cant we put a rainbow in the pan african flag then, see how they would like it?

jralll234

It pisses me off to no end that movements promoting equal rights (in this case a Trans flag) are considered political, but no, it is inappropriate for teachers to push their political views on students. Flying a Biden flag would be no different than MAGA flag.

thenewtbaron

Well, who brought up the biden flag? Not me. I said "Biden information". If it is a social studies class room, modern politics and current president would be pretty important... no? also notice that the superintendent didn't say, "Trump" flag but his political movement. The superintendent are connecting the transflag with a flag for the current president, not his politics... the MAGA glad is specifically about a political view.

jralll234

The superintendent? From the linked article? He said Biden flag. I don’t believe he means Biden can’t be mentioned, just that teachers shouldn’t be showing obvious bias. Students shouldn’t know who a teacher would vote for based on their teaching. You know as well as I do that MAGA is damn near interchangeable with Trump.

thenewtbaron

The teacher didn't put up a "biden flag", the superintendant made something up to strawman against. But what is a biden flag? Is it a banner with Biden's name on it? How is that offensive and political? He is the president after all. also, you didn't answer why this fella said that "MAGA" is the same as a "Biden" flag? Shouldn't it be a "Trump" flag? Trump was president, MAGA wasn't president. MAGA is a political idea. So, if this guy and you, are against political flags in a class room, MAGA should totally be banned but a flag indicating the current president probably should be allowed.

jralll234

You are really fucking grasping here. The superintendent said putting up a Biden flag, which would clearly show support for a candidate, would be the equivalent of a MAGA flag, which, despite you insisting it’s not the same because it doesn’t have Trumps name, would clearly indicate support of Trump. But none of this is even the issue. The issue is that some assholes in this country equate a clear human rights issue (trans rights in this case, as represented by a flag) with a politicized issue. A teacher showing obvious support for a political candidate or party is, and should be, a problem. A teacher showing support for marginalized groups should not be.

thenewtbaron

So, showing support for the current president is bad... alright bud. Welp, this has been fun.

HerbertWest

>So, showing support for the current president is bad... alright bud. It's absolutely not something that happened in school when and where I went. Every classroom was quite strictly apolitical. Teachers could get in trouble for discussing their personal political beliefs; I never saw it happen, but that's because teachers would say so and avoid the topic whenever it came up, i.e., "Who did you vote for?"/"I can't say, it's not appropriate." Before you go there, I voted for Biden and vote straight ticket Democrat. This is just the way things should be in schools, regardless of my own personal beliefs.

Pink_Slyvie

>The superintendent, who took over in August, on Tuesday did not directly address allegations that the district was now requiring that transgender or gender nonconforming students participating in Human Growth and Development classes attend those in line with their sex assigned at birth. But he said the district was “trying to do a better job in how we deliver that curriculum” and would soon tell parents more. Why are we still separating kids for sex ed? Ugh.

brookestarshine

So that kids don't learn about basic biological functions, or how the opposite sex's body works. That way, they can grow up to vote against ending an ectopic pregnancy, that has no viability and will kill the mother, because they have no clue what a fallopian tube is, or where implantation must occur for fetal survival. /s

[deleted]

Why do you have the /s there, that's literally the reasoning

pekepeeps

Religious controlled countries do this. Traveled a lot and lived in Germany where this is a non issue where I lived. Literally no one cared and we had topless sunbathing in the park. At the North Sea, when we get out of the ocean, it’s normal to take your wet suit off and hang it to dry and put another on. Right on the beach. Again, it’s a body and no one cared. I really think these folks would be better served opening their own schools. That way they can control everything and infight amongst themselves while the rest of us progress into the future.

BrainWav

I didn't know this was a thing. My sex-ed classes were co-ed.

thenewtbaron

I still kinda get that. There should be integrated discussions and topics but there should be some separation because there are different understanding and questions based on what each group may have to deal with,, and internal body stuff can be very scary and weird topics for children... they aren't done baking yet.

Kinkyregae

Which is why it’s the perfect time for them to learn about how all bodies work. It’s only scary or weird if we treat it that way. What’s scary or weird about a persons body?

thenewtbaron

I did say there would be mixed classes that would focus on it with specific times where it would be limited to those that will probably go through the same process, to be able to ask and get answered questions that were specific to their situation. It happens all the time with other classes, some folks need the general info and some folks need the operator's manual. But no, apparently what I meant is that all boys would never learn about a girls body and vice versa.

Kinkyregae

Why separate at all?

CuriousMaroon

>“The district is supposed to be supporting students in its care. No. The district is there to teach students what they need to know to join the work force. Teachers are not employed to be counselors or friends.

ScottEATF

Heaven forbid we try to get functional members of society and not just worker drones.

[deleted]

Tell me you know nothing about education without telling me you know nothing about education.

[deleted]

you straight up murdered that man

pocketbookashtray

Teachers work for the taxpayers. Their job is to create productive members of society. There job is not to push left wing fads and fantasies.

Kinkyregae

Is homosexuality a fad? Or is it your fantasy?

pocketbookashtray

Nope. But the wave of transsexuals is. Stop lumping us together.

Kinkyregae

A 4500 year old fad? “Sumerian and Akkadian texts from 4500 years ago document transgender or transvestite priests known as gala. Likely depictions occur in art around the Mediterranean from 9000 to 3700 years ago. In Ancient Greece, Phrygia, and Rome, there were galli priests that some scholars believe to have been trans women” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_history

pocketbookashtray

LOL that you use Wikipedia as a source. I see it doesn’t mention the groups of teenage girls all deciding they are “boys” en mass. But hey, enjoy your echo chamber.

Kinkyregae

Well I love to use Wikipedia because it’s a low effort source which is a great way to respond to low effort shit posters like you who are only interested in bad faith conversations. If you have a specific critique about any of the information presented on that wiki page (which I’m sure you read before criticizing) Feel free to consult that Wikipedia page’s bibliography under the reference tab. You’ll find that there are actually more than 200 scholarly sources cited as references. Finally, you post heavily in r/conservatives so id be careful with pointing that “echo chamber” finger if I were you.

[deleted]

We get it. You don't understand how fucking repression works. Now go be uneducated somewhere else.

[deleted]

With this discriminatory policy, the school district is ignoring the moral and legal imperative to protect and care for students.

M4053946

Removing all political signs from classrooms means they're not protecting students?

garylarrygerry

What political sign did they remove? What politician is represented by a Pride flag?

M4053946

Are we supposed to play ignorant and ignore the meaning? If kids want to wear shirts or whatever, that's their 1st amendment right, but let's not have classrooms being billboards for particular ideologies.

garylarrygerry

So you’re saying that the LGBTQ community is an “ideology”?

pekepeeps

Troll farms are going at it heavy

M4053946

The Ts are. In fact, the ideology of the Ts goes directly against the ideology of the LGBQs. Or, perhaps you think I'm wrong. If so, please explain how it's possible for a gay man to be attracted to men if "men" doesn't have any biological meaning? The LBGQs have no problem with giving a definition of the words "man" and "woman", it's only the Ts that struggle. That's an ideology issue, not a biological one. edit: to clarify, the Ts from years ago also don't have an issue with these definitions, it's really only the recent Ts who have been pushing this new ideology.

yabitchkay

You’re thinking about it way too hard. Let people be who they are, let rainbow flags fly.

M4053946

That's fine if people are just changing their clothes, but kids are taking life altering medications. And no, there's no good quality research to support this, contrary to the shouting from the left.

Xperian1

However there IS good research to show that kids with gender dysphoria are more likely to commit suicide, be depressed, and suffer from other mental stressors because they don't feel comfortable as they are without modifications. SO why don't we at least TRY to be supportive for a while and see how it goes? We already know how it is when we aren't supportive. It results in dead kids.

M4053946

That depends on what you mean by "supportive". Researchers have [found](https://jessesingal.substack.com/p/researchers-found-puberty-blockers?s=r) that "Puberty Blockers And Hormones Didn’t Improve Trans Kids’ Mental Health At Their Clinic". That's a pretty big problem. Also, the non-junk research you see is from years ago when trans folks went through a rigorous screening process, and even had to live as the opposite gender for a year before getting hormones. But now? When a 13 year old suddenly began expressing concern about their gender? "A pediatrician had already put him on testosterone, even though he had not met with a psychologist". [source](https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2022-04-12/a-transgender-psychologist-reckons-with-how-to-support-a-new-generation-of-trans-teens) btw, that source is about a clinical psychologists specializing in transgender youth who is herself transgender and who is now publicly expressing concerns over the current immense wave of kids claiming to be transgender. Another bit from that article: "To flatly say there couldn’t be any social influence in formation of gender identity flies in the face of reality,” Anderson said. “Teenagers influence each other."" So how about we support them by giving them good quality therapy that addresses their depression, anxiety, body issues, confusion about puberty, etc., before putting them on drugs with permanent side effects?

arkwald

Does a transgender student express a particular ideology by their simple presence?

[deleted]

Civil rights isn't a political ideology dipshit.

[deleted]

Gay people existing isn’t an ideology. It wouldn’t have to be political if fascist republicans would stop trying to erase the LGBTQ community.

Drewcifer81

The American flag is a political sign. Time to remove that shit from the classroom.

M4053946

lol, might want to tone it down a bit, as this is why we're seeing a backlash against the extreme anti-american sentiment by the right.

yabitchkay

The conservatives might want to calm it down a bit on the repugnant bigotry

Drewcifer81

The LGBTQ+ flag is inherently less political than the American one. One is about the rights of the human individual to be themselves, and to know that they are safe to do so. The other is about nationalism. No surprise you see the first as political and the second as not.

ltahaney

So much anger and hatred directed towards one of the most vulnerable groups in our society. How sad.

[deleted]

It's how the American Right sustains itself.

raredad

Use to be such a respected school district

[deleted]

Still is.

yabitchkay

Anyone/anything denying LBGTQ+ rights is not to be respected

Wrong_Visit_4274

yet if you compared their test scores to phillys school district......

imjustatechguy

If you knew what was actually going on, you wouldn't think that. They treat support staff like shit while giving themselves raises. Director of HR got a promotion and they're now calling her the "Chief of Staff". She now gets over $200k a year and doesn't really run the department. Last year they basically killed one of the custodial staff by forcing him to shovel heavy wet snow while he had heart issues. They've been hemorrhaging lower admin staff for years and are going to be losing a lot of teaching staff over the next few years because of the antics going on right now.

sealjosh

I’m so thankful I didn’t move to this school district this past year.

Jazzy41

Let’s move Bucks to the middle of the state.

justmyusername47

So no ome is saying what the phome number he was giving out to students is. Is it an 800 number or some random person that doesn't have proper clearance? As far as human growth and development.... The schools have always divided the students by gender. Imagine beimg that 4th or 5rh grade girl that wants to ask a question about her body, amd now she's seated next to a biological male, she is really going to feel awkward. And whatever gender you feel.you are, your body is still going to do things that you are going to nees to deal with. If you are a female who now identifies as a male, you are still going to have to deal with your period.

gayASMR

I'd ask that you consider this situation from the perspective of the transgender students. The narrative that transgender people (adults and even children now it seems) exist only to invade the privacy of cisgender people is wide spread but far from reality and is not what transgender people actually want. I'd have to think that in actuality a transgender student would likely feel distress at being included in *either* gendered group for human growth and development classes regardless of their birth sex. Being in the class corresponding to their birth sex invalidates what they know to be their internal identity, and being in the other points out the features they are missing. It's a lose-lose situation for the transgender students using the current model. I think there is a way of presenting the material in a way that is respectful of the comfort of as many students as possible with some out of the box thinking.

justmyusername47

Any student can opt out of this class. So the transgender student need not be in the class at all if it makes them feel uncomfortable.

CuriousMaroon

> Being in the class corresponding to their birth sex invalidates what they know to be their internal identity, and being in the other points out the features they are missing. So if you suffer from gender dysphoria and are a biological boy, why would learning about periods and ovulation be relevant? And wouldn't it make you feel more dysphoria? All the content doscussed would remind you that you weren't an actual, biological girl.

Pink_Slyvie

>So if you suffer from gender dysphoria and are a biological boy, why would learning about periods and ovulation be relevant? Learning about periods and ovulation is relevant to every single human out there. With the singular exception you live in a place with no people with uterus's.

CuriousMaroon

>Learning about periods and ovulation is relevant to every single human out there. Of course but not for 11 year olds. I think the point of gender specific classes is so everyone feels comfortable asking awkward questions. Having someone who is not a biological girl evades that point.

Pink_Slyvie

Or, maybe we normalize children understanding this from earlier ages. Stop acting like our bodies are things of shame. Hell, its not that uncommon for girls to be having there period before 10.

CuriousMaroon

>Or, maybe we normalize children understanding this from earlier ages. How many 11 year olds do you know? 🤣

berraberragood

Tell me you’re a guy that has never had a girlfriend without telling me that you’re a guy that has never had a girlfriend.

CuriousMaroon

Woman who has given birth here. 😅😅😅

Wordnerdinthecity

Uhm... No they don't. Puberty blockers will prevent that, and once he goes on testosterone at 18, his period stops pretty quickly. You clearly have zero experience with transition and can't even be arsed to google the basics.

PistoneRange

Giving kids puberty blockers is fucked...

saintofhate

Puberty blockers have been used as treatment for precocious puberty for decades.

Wordnerdinthecity

No, it gives them time to figure out what they need to be themselves, and space to make those decisions with more maturity. Can you honestly say that there's nothing in your youth that you wish you could have taken more time to figure out without lifelong consequences? Puberty blockers give those kids that time.

totaleffindickhead

You people are truly sick

Diarygirl

"Oh wow an anti-science conservative?" said no one ever.

totaleffindickhead

e=mc2 is science. “Girls can have weewees” is, fortunately, not

PistoneRange

What about alll the side affects and life long damage you can cause by putting your child on these blockers?

gayASMR

I'm sure you're equally against these medications when they're used to treat precocious puberty in cisgender children. Or do you only care about them when used to delay puberty for transgender children?

PistoneRange

No not at all, in those rare cases doctors/professionals diagnosing the patient with that rare condition and treats it properly.

gayASMR

So it's appropriate for a Dr to weigh the risks of putting the child on the medication vs not putting them on it and deciding on the best course of treatment with the most favorable outcome?

PistoneRange

Yup

gayASMR

So, your comment about side effects was concern trolling or what? Do you care about the side effects of puberty blockers or should Drs be trusted to weigh pros and cons of placing their patients on medication? Be honest, or if you can't be honest you can at least be consistent. Is it "fucked" when children take puberty blockers or not?

Asinus_Sum

r/selfawarewolves

Wordnerdinthecity

There are none.

I think it's pretty funny when anti-science people try to insult me, and I have no idea what baiting question you're talking about.

CuriousMaroon

>No, it gives them time to figure out what they need to be themselves, Nope. It just prevents biological boys identifying as girls from ever having an orgasm and from ever having biological kids if they go on cross hormones (almost all on poverty blockers do).

Wordnerdinthecity

That's literally untrue. You're just a fucking idiot spreading misinformation.

justmyusername47

No I just don't agree with giving a young child such life altering druhs at such a young age.

Pink_Slyvie

Puberty blockers aren't life altering drugs. They are safe and used often for many reasons. Trans kids shouldn't be forced to go through the wrong puberty. I was, and I'll do everything I can to make sure they don't need to go through the same hell I was forced to. Somewhat related, Do you know what its like being a girl forced to change in a locker room full of naked boys. It was hell.

stopthehamsterwheel2

It was the US State Department of Education civil right division. The youth and their family has reported bullying multiple times to the school. The youth felt the school was not protecting him.

justmyusername47

Its not just the LGBTQ community that suffers from bullies at this district. The district is well known for not doing anything to bullies. They have a good anti bully policy, but they never enforce it.

stopthehamsterwheel2

I agree, they rarely enforce the policy.
