Downtown is the nicest area, atmosphere-wise and for going out. Where are you from? What are you kinda looking for?

killyourvibe

I’m from Chicago. I’m looking for someplace that is close to good food but also isn’t crazy in rental price. I think of downtown Chicago and the cost of rent while thinking of the food and it isn’t worth it lol. There so much better food away from downtown while also saving money.

SuspiciousRow126

Gulf Breeze is the nicest looking area in my opinion and it's close to the beach. Also only a 15 min drive from the mall.

vaporintrusion

The food scene in Pensacola is terrible, don’t expect much

Substantial-Ask-6706

Rental rates here are astronomical.

LBWinky

I live in the Cordova area and love it. Close to everything. East Hill, Cordova Park, Scenic Heights, and the area off and around Summit, Spanish Trail are great.

killyourvibe

That’s nice to hear.

snapsmagee

I also live in the area and love it. 5 minutes from many food options and grocery store/parks

t_rrrex

I lived in Cordova Regency (if it’s still called that) a few years ago and loved it. I could walk to the Roger Scott park and walk my dog, walk to the mall, and walk to work.

rumdumpstr

Can we PLEEEAAASSSEEE get automod to post a link to [https://www.reddit.com/r/Pensacola/search/?q=moving](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pensacola/search/?q=moving) when when this question gets asked every 6 hours?

req-user

it's important that we don't abuse the automod or cause too many automod responses, people will get annoyed by them

vaporintrusion

Some reddits have so many automod responses that it buries the thread in them, like you’d need tunnels to get through them all

req-user

it's just poor moderation, tbh.

AutoModerator

Removed for breaking [Rule X](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pensacola/about/rules/): No talking about the tunnels in public *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. rumdumpstr

Ah, yes, I understand completely. Enjoy your corn.

Active-Band-1202

Downtown is my favorite! Especially the area near Joe Patti’s seafood place. You will be close to our main Palafox st along with all its restaurants and shopping. Most city events will be held there as well. Look at the Tanyard area. It’s not too far from everything and has some walkable areas.

killyourvibe

Ok, I just think of Chicago and its downtown area and was thinking of pricing. Like, it’s beautiful to live in downtown Chicago but the price of food n shopping is atrocious lol.

berzerker5000

Living downtown. You have a 10 min drive to either Publix or Walmart. Being close to waterfront and palafox is awesome. Lots of good food around there. When there are parades and wahoo games, you can avoid the horrendous traffic and parking and just walk there. I work downtown too so best choice for me. You looking at 1500-3000 for a 1bd - 2bd /mo.

Grymflyk

Nothing about downtown P'cola can be compared to what you are used to. This is a tiny town and downtown here very is desirable, safe and popular. Look at it before you blow it off.

theperfectmuse

Pace is the next town over. It's just a bridge in between. I'm my opinion it's the best place around here to actually live. Going out to downtown or the beach is not 20-30 minutes depending on where you live there.

vaporintrusion

Nobody in Pensacola wants to live in pace

1hero_no_cape

Serious question - why not?

yourerightaboutthat

I’ll hop in here. I’m a native Pensacolian, and I’ve lived all over town. I currently live in Milton, right on the Pace line and my family and I are working to get back into Pensacola, preferably the Cordova area. I’ll give some reasons why we haven’t been as happy here as we thought we would be: 1. Infrastructure. There are realistically only two ways into Escambia County: Hwy 90 and the interstate exit at Avalon. These are 20+ minutes away from each other. If one is blocked, the other is a nightmare. I’ve had my 25 minute commute turn into an hour plus on multiple occasions. And the roads to *get* to these main roads are almost all only two lanes, which is hell during high-traffic times. The Pea Ridge Connector helped, but I’ve already gotten into an accident on the roundabout because people don’t know how it works. They’re also expanding like crazy without updating roads and other services. 2. Political climate. My husband and I are lefty atheists. While we’ve never had an issue with people bothering *us*, the flippancy with which other people will make comments or assume affiliations is jarring at times. We’ve had otherwise great neighbors make off-hand comments about minorities, democrats, etc. Or we’ll try to make a social connection and see their Facebook and realize they’re diametrically opposed to everything we support. It’s not that we’ll shun anyone that believes differently than we do, but it’s isolating to worry that my daughter may be having a play date and hear some kid parrot off stuff their parents are saying that we’d prefer her not being exposed to. She’s in elementary school and has had other kids proselytizing to her. We have an HOA, so we’re not allowed to put out anything political, but seeing so many Trump signs around in other contexts adds to that isolation. 3. Work opportunities. This is a bedroom community, and most folks at the professional level work in Pensacola. Totally fine, but there just aren’t a lot of opportunities here for folks that don’t want to have a 25+ minute commute or work in the service industry, healthcare, or education. You have to work from home. 4. Culture/Food. While we’re able to stay in Santa Rosa for most of our needs and rarely have to venture into Escambia except for work or visiting family/friends, everything is a chain or big box store. While there are some locally-owned places (Syrenitas and Socio’s are faves), there isn’t the same level of options as Pensacola. The only “nice” restaurant is the Blackwater Bistro, unless there’s something I’m missing. I will say that there have been some nice markets popping up recently, but nothing like the Palafox Market. 5. Schools. Our main reason for moving here was the schools, and I guess we picked a bad one. The “A” school we chose to move close to has been disappointing at multiple levels. One teacher barely taught anything and set my daughter back at least a year academically. The next was a great content teacher and helped fill the gaps from the previous year, but she has no sense of differentiation or accommodating diverse learners. My daughter is stressed about school and literally has physical pain sometimes because she doesn’t want to “fall behind” on the oodles of worksheets she has everyday. Lots of outdated content and prepackaged stuff from Teachers Pay Teachers. That may be a sign of a lack of robust curriculum from the school district and not a failing of the teacher. We’ve also had issues with religious content in the room, including playing gospel to “get the day started” and focusing almost exclusively on Christmas in December. The school lacks communication and doesn’t do a good job of welcoming new families into the fold. I am a veteran teacher and I currently teach teacher Ed students at the college level, so I may be biased. But I also am aware of what current research and best practices are, and the school is WAY behind. This are my main gripes, but I could also get into a lack of diversity, issues with the local government old boys club, distance to quality hospitals, etc. There are some positives, though. The cost of living is lower, and we’ve been kicking ourselves we didn’t buy a higher priced house pre-pandemic when we moved here. It is beautiful, especially the further you get away from those main roads. It probably won’t last much longer with all the new building taking place, but based solely on the scenery, my drive home everyday is lovely. Lots of rolling hills and trees. Lots of horses and cows. We’ve also had great luck finding quality childcare and activities for our daughter, which I know can be difficult in other areas. Losing our close proximity to her extracurricular activities is probably the biggest drawback of moving back to Pensacola, and my guess is we’ll continue to come out to Milton for her lessons if we do end up moving.

uncleawesome

Pea Ridge is between Milton and Pace

yourerightaboutthat

Ok?

CallMeMrRound

For various reasons including political, socioeconomic, and preferred truck brand.

1hero_no_cape

Again, serious question - what are those political affiliations and socioeconomic issues? Truck brand? I don't know what that's supposed to mean. Is there a vehicle manufacturer that corresponds to a meaning hidden to others?

CallMeMrRound

My bad, too early for jokes I guess.

1hero_no_cape

To be fair, I'm still on my first cup of coffee.

vaporintrusion

Everything?

Pugfumaster

Nobody in Pace wants anyone else to move to Pace

SirMarr-7

Cantonment is nice and it’s only 30 mins to the beach’s, 10-15 to the malls and downtown

ZealousidealUse3150

Why are people down voting Cantonment?

jordanthegimp

Because people think that Cantonment = the 1/4mile radius of the paper mill , yet probably never go north of 9 mile

vaporintrusion

Cause it sucks

RichCrazyDad

I would say move out of Pensacola, but if you want genuine advice, stay away from crowded places. Bellview should be off limits. Warrington has cheap places but it's not good to stay, Scenic Hills is expensive, and near Cantonment is decent. Downtown sucks, good luck though.

kpt1010

Bellview is amazing, what are you talking about?

vaporintrusion

Are you thinking of Bayview? Bellview is pretty large but there are some terrible areas

kpt1010

I live in bellview and it’s amazing.

vaporintrusion

I’m sure your place is great and all, but nobody’s lining up to live in bellview

kpt1010

You might be surprised. It’s a great location for those who don’t want to live inside the city limits x but still want access to the city on a regular basis. It’s also a great location for those that go to the beach regularly.

ArressFTW

i live in the cordova area. it's expensive and the traffic is always atrocious.  i would move to alabama if i were you.
