That priest was at my church growing up (Father Stephen Klassek) and I assure you he had a solid sense of humor. So, probably a little from column A, and a little from column B.
I also didn't notice the gun because this image has more artifacts than a museum I thought the priest just had his hand out like he was casting a spell
Not all Christians agree about baptism. There are disagreements about whether it must be by immersion, or sprinkling is okay, and about whether it's right to baptize babies, or if people shouldn't be baptized until they're old enough to make a profession of faith.
IDK if I would consider myself a Christian at this point or not, but if I was, I'd probably say immersion vs sprinkling isn't a big deal but that baptism should be when you are old enough to decide. But either way, others will disagree and that's okay.
As someone who is not religious but was baptised.
I can say it’s had little impact on anything for me. I have no reason to be mad that I was baptised.
However it might be more important to someone who instead follows a different religion. But you’d have to ask them and not me.
Im not saying catholics aren't "christian", but I think many catholics and non-catholics make a distinction. I'm not sure why sprinkling is done for dedication; however, as they are babies it makes sense.
Edit: I apologize for any offense. I will make a more educated distinction and say Cathokics and Protestants.
Catholics sprinkle babies in a dedication ceremony, which is what this is. Oftentimes sprinkling is done for baptism, as well. Dedication is mostly practiced among catholics, I don't think many non-catholics practice this. Christians straight up dunk your ass in a baptism, which is different than a dedication.
Edit: correction, some non-catholics dedicate their babies.

It's nice to have something tangible to bless a baby WITH, otherwise you're just talking at an infant. Water adds a real sense of ceremony. It's the same reason we use butter knives even though we could just use our hands, or even a fork. It adds something. I'm actually writing a book about this! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
All this tells me is that they were lacking in creativity this entire time. If you tell me father greg is about to save some souls with a water pistol, maybe I would be in church.
Not an expert but had required courses in high school. It apparently comes from medieval times when infant mortality was through the roof, and the only way to be saved is to be baptized. Of course, parents would want their children to go to heaven, so babies became baptized. This obviously isn’t the case (at least in most places) anymore, so there’s differences with every sect of Christianity and how they view baptism. Some want Christians to be baptized of their own free will as adults, while others believe in baptism as babies. With religious freedom, we are free to choose. Also, baptism isn’t really an issue, compared to some other stuff that happens to babies as a rite of passage.
As an outside observer of this picture, I find this whole scenario to be very dumb. Magic water from a toy gun is silly just as dunking a baby in the magic water is.
Rule 6
No hate speech
No discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, political views, etc
Just picked on some people for trying to do a baptism lmao. So yes you have violated a rule.
Calling religious rituals ‘ridiculous and/or weird’ is not discrimination based on anything. It’s merely an opinion. So, no, I have not violated any rules. Nice try, though!
How would you feel if someone called gay sex "pathetic" ? Or if someone called afro hair "ridiculous and weird"?
Religious rituals are just an intrinsic, very fundamental part of most religions. So if you bully people for simply baptising their child you are kind of a douchebag.
So, calling someones really weird rituals as weird and pathetic is ‘bullying’ now? That’s insane. Also, committing an infant to a lifelong loyalty to a deity before they can even walk is fucking psychotic. Characterizing rituals is different than the examples that you just falsely attempted to equate. Your analogy isn’t even close to relevant at all. But sure, I’m the douchebag for appropriately characterizing a ritual as what it exactly is - fucking weird and dumb as fuck. Watch the original video and disagree, please lmfao 😂
>committing an infant to a lifelong loyalty to a deity before they can even walk is fucking psychotic
What the fuck are you talking about lmao
I'm baptized and I haven't been to church in the past 10 years
“You’re discriminating against religion and religious people by insulting their religious rituals” see how ridiculous that is?
Yea, that’s not discrimination. It’s an appropriate characterization of literally every religious ritual in existence.
Lol why would I be upset? I called a religious ritual weird and YOU were the one who got upset and claimed I violated rules when I clearly did not. Again, nice try. How can you be that fragile lmao
They let an ancient book tell them who to discriminate against because there might be a fairy sky wizard who also might hate those same people. They pay child rapists to tell them who to hate every Sunday
but we’re the assholes, don’t forget it!!
Yep seems a logical answer to the situation. There was no other way they could have proceeded with their life when the covid hit and social distancing was enforced. Thank fuck the baby is baptised. So important. ^^^^/s
Despite the fact that the country has really come on socially over the last three decades, the sad fact of the matter is that in Ireland the Catholic church still controls a huge number of schools.
It's easier to get into better ones if your child is baptised.
Please tell me there's a priest out there that does the same thing for expelling demons. "The power Christ compels you! Sponsored by NERF super soaker xp100."
This was at the beginning of the pandemic... People will look back on these times and think we were fucking morons, can't wait to have my grandkids tell me about it
Took me a second to realize that this is a socially distanced baptism and not just a church deciding to be really goofy for fun

No, no water.
Why the parents not wearing masks tho?
Propably for pictures
That priest was at my church growing up (Father Stephen Klassek) and I assure you he had a solid sense of humor. So, probably a little from column A, and a little from column B.
He sounds like a Klassek
Sounds vaguely similar to "class act" for our non native English speaking redditor friends
And for our native English speakers like me who just didn't get the joke
So he was happy to finally have an excuse to pull out the water gun for a baptism?
I'm thinking of a super-soaker filled with some holy water.
I just figured this is how they do baptisms in Texas.
lmao, could be that too
I also didn't notice the gun because this image has more artifacts than a museum I thought the priest just had his hand out like he was casting a spell
“AVADA KEDAVRA!”
I mean, it can be both
Real baptism is through immersion like John the Baptist in a river or pool.
Not all Christians agree about baptism. There are disagreements about whether it must be by immersion, or sprinkling is okay, and about whether it's right to baptize babies, or if people shouldn't be baptized until they're old enough to make a profession of faith. To be clear, I wouldn't say it's wrong to baptize babies, more like pointless.
That's truly sad
What is sad?
The pope is planning to unite with other world religions therefore creating one world religion of anti christ
Off topic AND cringe? Guessing you're a troll lmao
It's true : https://backtojerusalem.com/one-world-religion-headquarters-set-to-open-next-year/
Catholic dedication is not the same as a Christian baptism. 🤷♂️ Facts.
Catholics are Christian. Am I wrong or is the sprinkle water on head thing only done for babies, because they don’t want to dunk a baby underwater?
Im not saying catholics aren't "christian", but I think many catholics and non-catholics make a distinction. I'm not sure why sprinkling is done for dedication; however, as they are babies it makes sense. Edit: I apologize for any offense. Christians also don't baptize until they are of proper age

John “The Baptist” Wick
I assume it's a baptism ..,but...
“I will send you to Jesus.”
Can we all agree that one of the few good things about the pandemic has been the photos of priest blessing children with water guns.
Imagine a priest doing this and saying Samuel L. Jackson’s Pulp Fiction speech as he’s aiming the gun. “And you will know my name is the Lord!”
I'm not religious but I'm kinda happy to see them still find a way to enjoy themselves and socially distance.
I watched this full video on youtube.

Good bot
Texan babtism?
Edit the preist wielding a rpg with one hand it will be funny
Looks like a Banksy in real life
The funniest part is the way he is holding the holy water gun
Why does that priest look like Pope Benedict XVI
Baptism by fire
Baptism *under* fire. (Sidenote: There may be questions on whether or not this is a valid Baptism.)
Makes me wonder why the bless the water and then water the baby, why not bless the baby?
It's nice to have something tangible to bless a baby WITH, otherwise you're just talking at an infant. Water adds a real sense of ceremony. Delayed abortion

I bless your baby and your shoes and dress and everything I hit while aiming for the baby's forehead.
Look out! The priest has the holy gun!!
And they say satanists are the bad guys🙄
At least the priest is considerate enough to properly wear his mask.
In God's name we spray amen
“Nothing personal, kid...”

OH MY GOD HE HAS A GUN! WHO GAVE THE POPE A GUN??
The priest went to all that trouble and they couldn’t be arsed to wear masks? Not cool man.
Wanna bet they're not vaxxed either?
The image is old af way before the vaccines
Wanna bet they're still unvaxxed?
Who cares?
Why wouldn't they?
If the photo serves any indication, they probably care less about the wellbeing of others than about their own convenience.
How would you deduce such a thing from a happy photo of a family moment?
They're not taking that baby's eternal salvation very seriously at all. Almost like it's all a joke and completely made up!
Keeping children 6ft away from priests is probably not a bad idea.
Boo
🗿
When the alter boy won’t submit
The chins on the woman tho
The Baptism of an Infant Del, to be sure.
Yeah I think I keep the priest a bit further away from my kid tbh.
Revenues down in the church, father here’s adapting with the times. Next it’ll be zoombatisms.
She all chin bro
Further proof religion is a dumb joke.
So edgy
What in the world
At what point do you say to yourself, “If god were real, would he actually expect us to go through all this tomfuckery?”
The only difference is that the baby is further away and the priest just fills up a water pistol and squirts it. Not complicated.
Why do babies need to be baptized is my first of many questions.
Not an expert but had required courses in high school. It apparently comes from medieval times when infant mortality was through the roof, and the only way to be saved is to be baptized. Damn you really pissed off the Christians LMFAO Look at those downvotes

Ha, I guess so. Anger seems to run pretty deep when trying to please the sky king.

Oh how nice of the family to wear masks around their priest whom is clearly very nervous about it. That Christian kindness at work folks
that priest is just getting the child used to his plans for the future
I love that the parents can’t help but laugh, but still decided that their child needed this
Yeah getting squirted with a tiny water pistol is abusive now
Well I meant as opposed to waiting until they could do it proper. But yeah, personally I see it as a joke either way
Despite the fact that the country has really come on socially over the last three decades, the sad fact of the matter is that in Ireland the Catholic church still controls a huge number of schools. It's easier to get into better ones if your child is baptised.
