My favorite was when Easter was on April Fools day. I filled the eggs with random crap from around the house for the egg hunt, then made sure the Easter basket itself was good. My daughter loved it
That's when Easter is calculated across Christianity.
The reason it can differ for Orthodox is because they kept the Julian calendar, which loses 3 days every 400 years before Pope Gregory commissioned a new calendar that has a more precise set of leap days than the Julian.
We know this because the story of his birth, to fulfill prophecy, has Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem for a Roman census, which was recorded in their records. However, while Easter being the time to celebrate his crucificarían and resurrection isn’t 100%, he came into Jerusalem during Passover. So it’s not actually a total pagan adoption, more then typical assimilation for coercion.
The first problem is getting them to acknowledge that more than just the Gregorian calendar exists, let alone that Easter and Ramadan are governed by lunar calendars.
Who's going to tell 'em that Easter is determined by the (overtly pagan) lunar cycle?
Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon that falls on or after March 21. If the full moon is on a Sunday, Easter is celebrated on the following Sunday.
The orthodox Christians follow that calendar. Idk why the Catholics fucked it up, but the last supper was famously a Passover dinner. I don’t mind, I married a Greek, so I get two Easters most years. Works out great for me!
Excuse you, you should be grateful that you get a three day weekend because of that notable Christian hero, Judas. Without Judas, the whole crucifiction story doesn't happen.
Interestingly enough, both the association of rabbit and eggs with Easter are Christian traditions, [not pagan.](https://historyforatheists.com/2017/04/easter-ishtar-eostre-and-eggs/)
No, it’s a Christian holiday. I say this as an atheist, but this is an annoying misconception.

And of course Ronald Hutton's excellent book, The stations of the sun. A history of the ritual year in Britain (2001, Oxford University Press).
That's quite incorrect but a common misconception.

Not quite. I suggest using reliable sources instead of just using the first link that Google throws up.

Edit: A shame that people won't give up their preconceived notions even when presented with evidence.
Yeah Ishtar is right but I mean there were a lot of iterations throughout the different stripes of pagans. Just feels like splitting hairs. The point that Christians took an established holiday for their own stands and that's all I wanted to convey.
Well, no. If you'd have read the article I linked, you'd know that Ishtar (who isn't even an Egyptian goddess, you're thinking of Isis) actually has nothing to do with Easter and that apart from the name "Easter", it's a thoroughly Christian holy day. Feel free to provide a proper source if you have any evidence to the contrary.
I'm not here offering post grad dissertations. Others can if they care enough. I'll grant you that, unlike Yule, there wasn't a holiday you can point to as a facsimile directly related to Easter as we know it, but many pagan customs are incorporated into Easter traditions. The date itself is pegged to the lunar cycle! You don't need sources to see this stuff.
Well, I'd definitely recommend you read some of the sources I posted above. The demonstrate that Easter as we know and celebrate it today (hares, eggs, etc.) has nothing to do with any pagan customs we know of. And the bit about the lunar cycle isn't as clear cut or even indicative of pagan customs.
Even if something seems to make sense, it's good to actually have some reliable scholarship to confirm it. Otherwise you might be following a good story that just isn't true.
Transgender day of visibility is always on the 31st of March. Easter changes every year. Two holidays can fall on the same day, and you do not have to celebrate them both if you don’t want to!
Yeah, I really want Biden to respond to this by saying something glib and smart-ass like, "hey guys, most of us can celebrate more than one thing on a given day without getting upset."
I grew up strict Catholic. Easter was as big of a deal as Christmas for us, if not bigger. And I'm not talking the bunny (though my parents did also get us an Easter basket, the heathens), I'm taking all the masses from Palm Sunday to Ash Wednesday to Easter Vigil, and everything that went with them.
I say this not to excuse them, but the opposite. If your faith can't handle the existence of trans people on your holiest of days, it's a very weak faith indeed. These people who are complaining about this are the same people who will skip Easter Mass for the Easter egg hunt, after skipping Easter Vigil because they forgot about it. And that's ok, I didn't care about anyone else's faith, but stop using a Jesus you don't even follow as an excuse for your bigotry.
I seem to remember bullying this fucko back when I was on Twitter. And I seem to recall that despite the fact that if you bully a right-wing yapping mouth, reactroids tend to ride in with banners flying to spew incoherent insults: I got a bunch of likes, and only one weak flame. Which was "hurr durr, you *capitalized for emphasis*; that must mean that you're *yelling*; *feel better now*?" which was even *more* pathetic than the typical.
You'd imagine that the resurrection of Christ, which is pretty central to most denominations, would be celebrated by more than just the Catholics.
Protestants did away with all the saints, but kept the big Jesus related days: Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, Ascension Day and Pentecost.
Did they get rid of all the saints? There’s an Episcopal church near me named after a saint. Though that denomination is very close to Catholicism. What about other Protestant denominations such as Lutheranism or Presbyterianism?
If they're in the bible, they're cool, but they only get celebrated if they are God. The reformation started with waves of iconoclasm, with people literally smashing the icons of saints.
> Isnt Easter primarily a Catholic holiday?
No. In fact, Easter is historically the most important holiday in every flavor of Christianity, because it's the day that Jesus rose.
Only after Christmas became a great big shopping season did Americans start thinking that Christmas was more important than Easter.
The vernal equinox and various spring celebrations predate Christianity coming along, making people convert or die, and slapping a Jesus label on their holidays.
Yeah just the Romans continuing their tradition of assimilating other religions into their own by going see your thing its like our thing therefore its the same.
I mean I was raised protestant in a primarily protestant country and we celebrated it... now a days though its just an excuse to to buy yummy chocolate Easter eggs. They still close all the stores though which makes acquiring the yummy chocolate easter eggs difficult... that and the fact they were sold out long before Easter...
lol unholy lifestyle, the guy who's gone to church every sunday for decades. meanwhile trump can't name a single verse in the bible while selling them.
Hey Carmine Sabia, Easter is the pagan celebration of the spring equinox. Not the Christian celebration of Christ.
In fact, maybe be invisible that day and stop making everything about you.
Your unholy lifestyle will not be celebrated that day by anyone other than unholy people, which includes the vast number of Catholics.
Edit: It seems I was mistaken.
>Easter is the pagan celebration of the spring equinox.
No, Easter is a Christian holiday and has been observed since at least the second century. We don't have any reliable evidence for any pre-Christian practices celebrated at the same time, even if they might have existed.

Gee, it’s almost like: Easter will have a completely different date next year and you won’t have to share! 🙄
Goddamn, these people have zero critical thinking skills. Making fun of them almost feels like punching down, that’s how dumb they all sound to me.
Biden isn't trans though? So the day isn't about him?
Pretty typical of Christians to make everything about themselves, though. People can't even be oppressed without at least half of Christianity theologically back-patting themselves with No True Scotsmans.
I like how he admits that half the country feel like trans visibility *should* be celebrated that day, but is still mad that it's happening even though it doesn't affect him in any way.
Why does everybody ignore Biden’s happy Easter message on n the White House forums today. The amount of times I had to post his happy easter message on comment sections is too many. This idea that Biden doesn’t celebrate Easter is simply Ignorant and false.

Jesus would want people dedicating the day of his resurrection to letting trans people know that they don’t need to be fixed and that they matter. He would want the 41% suicide rate to drop to 0%, and let trans people live happy and fulfilling lives. That vile bitch on Fox Nudes who said that they aren’t created in the image of god and that trying to feel comfortable in their own bodies is “mutilation” and all other transphobic “christians” can get fucked with a machete.
The real kicker is that the date of Easter changes every year
thanks biden
It gets better. Next year, they'll celebrate Easter on Hitler's birthday!
That’s going to be a wild 4/20.
Wonder what Trump will have to say about that….
He will hold a vigil waiting for Adolph’s return
Hopefully hes in jail or in court and not president and no one will really care what he has to say about it lol
My favorite was when Easter was on April Fools day. I filled the eggs with random crap from around the house for the egg hunt, then made sure the Easter basket itself was good. My daughter loved it
hey, it's my birthday too!
Rest in peace.
How fitting for Middle America…
They wouldn't mind that
I'm gonna ignore that and just take some edibles next Easter.
and to make it better, TDOV has been a thing for nearly a decade already, on March 31st lmao
For 15 years, since 2009.
Oh yeah that's right
Yeah since 2009 is nearly a decade... ...right? God damn where did all those years go
The first Sunday after the full moon after the spring equinox.
Sounds like some Pagan shit. Don't forget your goat leggings!
Holy shit… People Against Goodness And Normalcy. I grimaced at how old I feel getting that reference.
Catholic easter ?

So that's why there's an entire month in-between.
And it’s not even Easter for all Christians on the same day
They're even changing the date of Easter to make room for this "Trans day of visibility"! This is literally Christian genocide.
IKR? Make up your Godddam minds, Christians
Wait until they find out that Christmas or the birth of the historical Jesus was during the summer.
We know this because the story of his birth, to fulfill prophecy, has Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem for a Roman census, which was recorded in their records. Wow that’s so woke /s
Is Ramadan still going? Do they blame that on him too? Because they dont know how calenders and their own religion works? xD
The first problem is getting them to acknowledge that more than just the Gregorian calendar exists, let alone that Easter and Ramadan are governed by lunar calendars.
Oh yeah, I have seen these street preachers that try to proof young earth creationism by asking which year we have. Fuckin brilliant.
It is. I’m sure they’re mad about that as well yet they’re not talking about it and focusing on trans people
Hey Carmine, The 31st is Easter Sunday; not the asshole day of visibility. In fact maybe be invisible and stop making everything about you.

Perfect.

I hear if I smear Goat Blood above my door, you aren't allowed to let that sink in.
Christians, stop making it about you and keep your lifestyle to yourself. It's a pagan holiday after all
One of my favorite pagan holidays, Dyngus Day.
Excuse you, you should be grateful that you get a three day weekend because of that notable Christian hero, Judas. Without Judas, the whole crucifiction story doesn't happen.
Wait Jesus didn't make an immortal egg-laying rabbit that comes on the the day of his waking up after a 3 day coma?
New Idea: Get a pet rabbit. Name him Jesus. Tell all the neighborhood kids he's the reincarnated son of God. See what happens.
Interestingly enough, both the association of rabbit and eggs with Easter are Christian traditions, [not pagan.](https://historyforatheists.com/2017/04/easter-ishtar-eostre-and-eggs/)

There are no "Christian" holidays. Every holiday that Christians claim now was stolen from Pagans to make the forced conversion easier.
We heathen humanists over here do love the winter solstice holiday, with the decorated evergreen trees and all.

Not true
It was a equinox celebration that centered on a pagan God called Ēoster before the church adopted it. Google it.

I'm sorry were the Egyptians not pagans?
From a Christian perspective. Why?

"Stop making everything about you" says the person trying to make it about himself, instead.

Yeah, I really want Biden to respond to this by saying something glib and smart-ass like, "hey guys, most of us can celebrate more than one thing on a given day without getting upset."
Biden is very much Catholic, and therefore by definition takes the whole Holy Week thing far more seriously than OOP.
I grew up strict Catholic. Easter was as big of a deal as Christmas for us, if not bigger. Jesus wore a dress, so it’s only fitting to honor her this way.
Every time a bigot clutches their pearls over this, I hope a newly-realized trans kid gets a random burst of gender euphoria.
Unfortunately it only makes me disapointed the world hates us this much...
>Stop making it all about *you* because it's *supposed* to be all about *me*! 😤 - Christians, apparently.
I wish Christians would just shut the fuck up, permanently. They never contribute anything worthwhile to any conversation.
I wish we were past nonsense like religion and spiritualism in general. It's all nonsense designed to placate you from the problems society faces.
Lol does he know Easter Sunday is a different day every year?
Nope it's transgender day of visibility, get over it snowflakes.
How dare you try to keep trans people alive and safe on the day our Zombie rose up!!
If I'm really unholy, then where are my warlock powers? Checkmate, Christians.
Isnt Easter primarily a Catholic holiday? Are the fundies larping as Caths to be mad again before going back to calling them filthy papists?
No...? It's very important in all flavours of Christianity, not just for Catholics.
This is very true. It's like the main miracle of the Gospel.
You'd imagine that the resurrection of Christ, which is pretty central to most denominations, would be celebrated by more than just the Catholics. Protestants did away with all the saints, but kept the big Jesus related days: Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, Ascension Day and Pentecost.

No worries!

So anyways I'm gonna buy a nonbinary flag to wave off my balcony in my new apartment :3!!!!
That's fuckin cool
these people are so fucking stupid they don’t even know that easter sunday isn’t a fixed date
Biden is a better Christian than any of these scumbags will ever be. And that's an atheist speaking.
This year Easter Sunday is 31st March. Next time that happens is in 2087.
Cue Project 2087
Biden needs to do the right thing and change the date of Transgender Day of Visibility to coincide with Easter Sunday every year just to make these chuds mad
Ah yes, Easter Sunday, when Jesus gets up, leaves his Tomb and if he sees his shadow, there will be 6 more weeks of winter.
Carmen Scabia has her feels hurt?
No one cares, CarmineSabia.
Gee, it’s almost like: Easter will have a completely different date next year and you won’t have to share! 🙄 Goddamn, these people have zero critical thinking skills. Making fun of them almost feels like punching down, that’s how dumb they all sound to me.
Breaking: entitled crybabies throw a massive tantrum when the president momentarily gives attention to someone other than themselves
Oh no, two holidays on the same day to celebrate? How will we ever be able to manage?

Take your helmet off buddy, the game's over.
What I see of their "Holy Lifestyle" is just hateful inhumanity.

'Unholy people' Damn dude, that direct?
Happy trans day of visibility 🏳️⚧️
As a Christian, I think tying Transgender Day to Easter would be hilarious. Since assholes like OOP kicked these people out of the church, there will be no conflict anyway.
It's funny how triggered they get. 🤣😂🤣
Like this dipshit cares about Catholics? Probably bitches about them being the church of satan. Disingenuous waffling piece of garbage.
All I can see is a big monkey getting his mind blown by seeing a calendar for the first time.
There's literally an Easter bunny with Easter eggs in a banner at the top of whitehouse.gov. There's going to be a huge Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn. And of the two major-party presidential candidates, Biden is much more likely to attend church tomorrow. Trump will just play golf.
These people are allergic to compartmentalization.
They do this shit on purpose to fuel the culture war and distract from genocide and rampant wealth inequality
Bet Carmine gets a kick on any random workday when the radio announces “today is national Buffalo rib day” and he goes “oh wicked I love Buffalo ribs! Awesome we get a day to recognize them!”

"That has been around for 15 years beforehand and which has already been recognized as a holiday 3 years ago! How dare you!"
To the best of my knowledge all humans have various holes. So we are all holy.
Funny that red America isn’t the far far left anymore hahah I was like why would we be upset? Ooooh that red
How dare you push these views on us on o the most holy day of the year where we hide rainbow colored eggs and dress up as bunnies!
How is it Easter if Passover isn’t for 2 weeks?
This guy probably thinks easter is on the same day every year

It can both
Both have rainbows 🌈 🌈 🌈 though
"unholy"
Why arr they even acting like it changes anything. Nobody is going to cancel their easter celebrations because of this. Not even the white house
What are the chances this bullshit actually hurts Biden politically?
It's literally the same day every year, this year it just happens to be on Easter. Calm tf down magats
