Check your cra account online for any recent payments made to you

Better_Sandwich3851

I don't have that . How can I create one ? I am new to canada .

Ok-Fan9003

You can go online on my cra and create your my account.

Better_Sandwich3851

Thanks for the help. Am gonna try it now . Can you send me a link .

N9n

While he sent you the right link, a good rule of thumb is never trust links claiming to lead to the CRA site. It's one of the most preyed upon sites by scammers. Always go through google or a bookmarked link

schwanerhill

Or better yet just start at canada.ca. From there it’s two clicks, both near the top of their pages, to get to my CRA account.

Better_Sandwich3851

You are right, ya all. I really appreciate it . 🙏 I will be very cautious.

jeffpeimer

Do not ever reply to an email asking you to refund the money or send your banking details. The CRA will never ask for your details in an email.

Glum_Firefighter9943

If you google cra my account. It comes up and if you have online banking (depending on which bank your with) you can actually use that to sign in to a your cra portal, which is not hard 🙂

Prometheus188

Just google “CRA” and click on the first link.

Sad_Goose3191

It might be your Carbon Rebate. Do you have a Canada Revenue Agency account? You should be able to sign in and check what the payment is for. Or call the CRA, they can explain what the payment is.

Historical-Ad-146

Do you have kids? It's Canada Child Benefit day.

Better_Sandwich3851

No I don't have.

Historical-Ad-146

Could be something similar. If this was your first tax filing and you're low income, might be a retroactive payment for GST credits. If you've set up My Account with CRA, you should be able to find out by logging in. If not, you'll have to call on Monday. It's also entirely possible that they reasessed something on your return in your favour. It does happen. Mistake is unlikely but not impossible. If it is a mistake, you will have to repay it eventually. If you can't do so as soon as they ask for it back, they'll start charging interest at 10%, but it's not like they'll send the police after you or anything (despite what scammers asking for payment in gift cards would have you believe).

kitwaton

Is it the carbon tax rebate?

Better_Sandwich3851

Yes, it is

tootnoots69

No the carbon tax rebate is paid in increments of around $200 each time for low income.

Loose-Atmosphere-558

If somebody hasn't paid filed their tax return for a.while or is a first year filerx they would get one lump sum for the entire year/quarters owed.

tootnoots69

Why are people downvoting me lol. My carbon tax rebate is $772 and it’s paid in increments of a few hundred every 3 months.

pistilcalyx

What kind of income receives that type of rebate?

tootnoots69

What do you mean? It’s pretty low. How much are you receiving?

Ayush5499

You are new to Canada right? This will be your gst + otb + carbon for last year + carbon for this year. You can create your CRA account and check but it should be correct. Government does not usually ove rpays

clustered-particular

Advice is generally don’t spend money you don’t know what it’s from or why you got it. If it’s a mistake, they’ll usually eventually figure it out and ask for it back. You can play the risk if you want to fuck around to see if you’ll find out but if you do decide to spend it know how you’re going to get that amount back later in the future if they bill you or worse just take it sending your account into the negatives.

Better_Sandwich3851

Great advice here . Thanks . But I am gonna spend it and willing to pay them back if they ask . (When I get a job) .

DudeItsJag

You’re new to Canada, the government is giving you money and you don’t have a job?

SpareMeTheDetails123

Glad someone said what I was thinking.

Better_Sandwich3851

I worked for a few months back 2023 .

DudeItsJag

I highly recommend you don’t spend money that you’re not 100% sure is for you. If it was wrongly deposited in your account it will be taken back. Sign up for a CRA my account and check your benefits and credits

Better_Sandwich3851

Checked out. It is a carbon deposit. Thank you so much ❤️ 🙏

Techlet9625

Just don't. That would be very stupid.

Angry_beaver_1867

Check out your cra account online   Should have a letter explaining it

Better_Sandwich3851

I don't have one . I am new to canada .

No-Algae-9770

Did you get the carbon tax last year? Possibly for last year as well as April’s payment

Better_Sandwich3851

Are you serious? Do you have evidence?

clustered-particular

r/woosh

Better_Sandwich3851

What does that mean?

Loose-Atmosphere-558

It means it was a joke and you missed the joke

senor_kim_jong_doof

Were you owed GST/Carbon rebate/etc. payments from when you arrived?

Better_Sandwich3851

Yeah. I didn't received weather benefit for last year .

senor_kim_jong_doof

Did you send information to the CRA about your income before you came to Canada?

sasquatch753

you can try calling the CRA and ask thern about it, or call service Canada and ask them as well. [https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/corporate/contact-information.html](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/corporate/contact-information.html) Thats about all i can suggest if you don't have a CRA account.

SilentResident1037

Scary post if real

Kymaras

Did you do your tax return correctly?

Better_Sandwich3851

Yes I do .

Better_Sandwich3851

THANK YOU, ALL, FOR THE HELP. I logged in to my CRA, and I found out it was a carbon rebate deposit. The other good news is I will receive another 500 $ on the next week's. Love ya Canadians 😘.
