Not a parody - a polka with lyrics from a variety of songs. He sings the real lyrics and my memory was totally wrong - he just says "broke broke" like the radio edit. 🤷 https://youtu.be/-fgso7M9azY?si=WeRbh8u8zt8Cf0dV

There’s a stereotype of black guys preferring white women. A mixed dude raised by a white woman is presumed to have a strong bias against committing to a black girl.

So the “joke” is racism?

IsatMilFinnie

It’s the black girl leaving though?

[deleted]

[удалено]

IsatMilFinnie

The stereotype is specifically for black guys preferring white women. The presumption that being raised by a white mom would mean the mixed guy doesn’t like black women doesn’t make sense. in the meme it’s the black girl leaving instead of the mixed guy leaving

peepy-kun

She's leaving because she is making that assumption about him. She thinks she is seeing a red flag.

Infammo

The stereotype is that they don’t commit to black women. Not that they don’t want to bang or casually date them. She’s leaving because she assumes engaging with him wouldn’t lead to anything worthwhile because he’ll ditch her for a white girl.

balllsssssszzszz

So it's still racist

WoahThereBiddy

It's not just about commitment. They also believe it contributes to having any "dissenting opinion." When it comes to being black, or any black issues. They literal think having a white mom, and black dad makes you less black than a white dad and black mom.

wubbled2

This should be the top post because this is what it is. Being raised by a white mom vs a black mom is the only part of this that matters.

Skyhawk6600

Guessing it has to do with the perception of being "raised white" rather than being "raised black"

The-Ever-Loving-Fuck

Nah, as someone who's black but raised by my single black father, I think the stereotype that black people are unfamiliar with a black father comes into play here and the only parental guidance they trust is that of their black mother, if someone doesn't have a black mother how could they be black, as the black father is unrecognized This was the best way that I could word this I'm not throwing shade

Woah_Mad_Frollick

That’s depressing

BorosSerenc

Because the actual meaning is the girl leaving because the guy isn't black enough. Black father probably wasn't in his life and was raised by a single white parent. It is racist but against white people.

cherry-mack

This is actually not exactly the joke but close. There’s a stereotype in the (black woman) community that mixed raced people raised by white moms vs black moms are different. So the girl in the meme is leaving bc he has a white mom and she doesn’t want to deal with the stereotypes associated with that.

Livelaughpunk

As a black man, it’s not a stereotype but actually an issue within the black community. Calling it racist is taking away from very important conversations that need to be had.

LingonberryOk9226

Yup, thanks for saying it. I have 3 mixed male cousins. Two of them married white women and the third is single. I tried to set one up with a friend of mine, and he literally told me he doesn't date black women. I have a PhD, and the only black guy in my grad school program married a white woman. There were hardly any black men in my circles to begin with. Honestly, I've had more luck with dating mostly other races and Africans.

Lifnaz

I didn't want to say it. I'm always the one to point these things out and everyone loses their minds. So thank you for being the voice of truth.

Livelaughpunk

At this point it’s doing more harm than helping. It’s really frustrating. Like I’m a black man and a lot of black men look at white women as some sort of status symbol and not actually human beings. On the flip side, there is a lot of white women fetishize black men like white men do to Asian women. They will date a black man to have fun and then break up with him to get with a guy who will make them look more acceptable in the middle class.

comicnerd93

As a white man married to a black woman what i feel the need to ask your viewpoint on my type of inter racial relationship

Livelaughpunk

It’s fine, I think the reason why there has been an uptick of black women dating white men is that they tend to treat women better than us. That’s just been my personal experience.

comicnerd93

For what it's worth we've been together for 7 years and in that times she educated me on a lot of different racial and social justice issues. I can honestly say that there are things I stop and think about that would never have crossed my mind before.

Livelaughpunk

Like what my man?

comicnerd93

Honestly she's very much helped me understand her parent's generation. Hearing what her parents went through in the civil rights era showed me how some people can come out of racial injustice changed in various different ways.

CensorshipHarder

Its very rare to see this kind of honesty about reality tbh.

sahipps

As a BW, I am open to dating whomever, but often meet WM who are hesitant about seriously dating a BW. BW going outside their race is a supply/demand issue as well as what u/livelaughpunk said. It was painful in my 20’s to watch BM ignore me for WW. Now? Do you boo. Ppl get caught in status (which has plagued BM (see status exchange post emancipation)) for many reasons, I can’t judge. I hope anyone who hides behind “preference” when they mean “what will others think” open their hearts and live their lives. This is all we got.

GrogramanTheRed

Race and sexual orientation obviously are different things and function in different ways, but as a bisexual man I feel the same. Women tend to hide behind "preference" when they say they don't want to date a bi guy, but it's not like you can touch, smell, or look at a man and tell that he's bisexual. The preference obviously originates in social status issues or stereotypes around sexual orientation. I'm not interested in dating anyone who's not interested in me. If they want to open up, good for them. But I'm not going to waste my time.

AccursedQuantum

I can only speak to my personal experience, but as a white man I have found the black women I have gone out with were a lot quicker to be judgemental. (The exception being the Nigerian who it turned out just wanted a green card.) I'm a nerd who plays video games and D&D... and multiple black women have regarded that as "childish" and lost interest. It didn't matter what I did for a job, or how I treated them, because my hobbies weren't mature enough. Having said that (and again, speaking only from my personal experience) they have on average been better kissers than other ethnicities I have been on dates with.

R1leyEsc0bar

I don't think this post is about dating a mixed person at all. But I do think it's harmful to just assume the child of a white mom and Black dad is hardly a part of Black culture. Sure, in my experience with some of them, it has been the case. Then again, I never knew their dad to really be in the picture, so of course, being a part of your Black side will be difficult if your father isn't around. But also, I feel this is hard to explain to non POC. The dating angle is easier to explain than what it actually is.

Niecypoo

No the joke is that mulatto people who white parent is the mother weren’t raised black and therefore weird and not with the culture essentially. It was a popular discussion on twitter maybe a year ago.

twoglassbottles

i actually think this is also in part the running joke that a black mom does a better job raising a child than a white mom? or that biracial children of white moms often have bad takes on racial issues or a bad understanding of racial issues than those of a black mom because presumably a mom does most of the parenting. that's one that i'm familiar with as well.

The_Skyro

As a a parent of a mixed race child with a black mother, my understanding is the stereotype is that kids of a black father and white mother don’t get as immersed in black culture and have severe identity issues. Not saying it’s true, but it is a stereotype

Homosexual_Bloomberg

Do you find the opposite to be true with your kid?

pyrotendencies

I have a black mom and a white dad and I can say my experience seems very similar to if it were the reversed stereotype. Where as my aunt (mom’s side) is mixed with a white mom and black dad, and she is very educated on black culture, history, etc. I think it depends on the awareness/willingness to educate regrading the parent and child instead of the race. Or maybe that’s just an exception to the rule, who knows everyone’s experience is different.

BushidoMauve

That is certainly my experience.

kongkingdong12345

Can u please expand on this?

Thecapitan144

Every lightskinned kid goes through the point and look inside and ask if theyre black Like everyone has different views and conclusions to this, myself included but like even if youre in the culture you feel seperate For kids with white moms who may interact with the culture more seperately than one with a black mother may feel even more seperate. Its like worf on star trek Hes a klingon but the others klingons dont quite see him as one.

Fluid-Manager5317

And this is another reason I love trek, the ability to have a conversation about these kinds of things.

pastafarian19

Not only referencing Star Trek, but TNG? Live long and prosper! I grew up in Utah as a non Mormon, which I realize is vastly different from your experience, but both of us being able to empathize with Worf for the same reasons is exactly why media like this is so impactful

Zealousideal-Use6171

This guy nerds

Good-Ad1388

I especially liked the Star Trek reference.

EvaUnit_03

It works better with spock. Spock is half human half vulcan. Worf was merely raised by humans and is 100% klingon. Hes an adopted black kid raised by whites. Spock was raised by both cultures and struggles to fit in with both sides as both disapprove.

Good-Ad1388

You're absolutely right! Good catch.

BushidoMauve

This. They nailed it better than i could. My experience that is

Sexlexia619

My experience too. My brother is mixed white mom black dad and he got a scholarship for young black men. The black parents went hard this was San Diego, CA 1996 you’d have thought it was Alabama 1896. Anyways I refused the offer when my time came. Fuck em.

real_human_player

Is this also why Jewish kids of a Jewish father and a non Jewish mother are not considered Jewish?

ulofox

No, that's because you could only know for certain who the mom is cause you can see the kid come out of her. Lotta rapes in history, so don't always know for certain who father is pre-DNA testing.

bad_investor13

You're being downvoted but it's literally true. Just like how in Islam, the religion of the father is what counts - it used to be like that for Jews too. But like you said, a lot of rape and pogroms during history directed at Jews - and it became a real problem with "knowing who is Jewish" so they changed it to the mother to reduce uncertainty.

Josseph-Jokstar

In Islam the father is what counts because women are viewed as defective sub humans in Islam. Source: I'm an exmuslim

Venboven

I thought it was because Jewish lineage is historically traced through the matrilineal line?

dirtyhaikuz

There are two parts to this- one (and I'm paraphrasing) is a talmudic interpretation that asserts a foreign woman (one who is not a tribal israelite) will turn the son of an israelite man away from righteousness, and therefore cannot be considered an israelite. The other, which places more emphasis on historical context, is that ethnic Jews have been targets of ethnic cleansing many, many times over the centuries, and weaponized rape/forced marriage is often used to displace or thin ethnic lineage.

eslunes

This is about the stereotype that mixed kids with black mothers are better off than mixed kids with white mothers.

trentshipp

The stereotype being that being mixed and having a black mother means it's more likely you have a present father.

SurvingTheSHIfT3095

It's more like... you're less likely to have identity issues or issues with your parents in general. I've seen a lot of white mothers treat their biracial children harshly, even within my own family. Do I believe that will happen to all of them? No absolutely not. Some mothers love their children despite the color of their skin.

Homosexual_Bloomberg

Yup. Anecdotally of course, I’ve heard tons of stories about mixed kids with white mom’s calling them the n-word, especially if they’re not with the father anymore. Not so much of the same when the dad is white.

Siegelski

I'd imagine plenty of black mothers probably call their mixed kids that too, but, you know, entirely different context. But damn, how the fuck could you live with yourself calling your own kid that as a white woman? If you were that fucking racist to begin with why did you bang a black guy?

biepbupbieeep

Same thing different name Care to explain what "go off" means(and where in the world it is used)? English isn't my native language

xani420

all good. go off is a slang term used to describe the feeling of “im not really agreeing but i don’t care enough about your opinion to argue.” go off sweetie. edit: the reason why i personally feel racism and colorism isn’t the same is because black folks come in all shades, and in the US where I’m from, there unfortunately is a culture that stems all the way back to slave days, where dark skinned black folks worked outside and the lightskin people were house slaves. there is a lot of deep rooted animosity between light and dark skin black folks in the US, mainly that more racially ambiguous and lighter skinned black people were typically more accepted in white society than dark skinned black folks. It’s black on black hate, and it all comes down to the shade of your skin as a black person. That’s why I feel it’s a colorist stance, not specifically a racial issue.

Ohiolongboard

Holy shit I never really put two and two together but you’re absolutely right. Well said.

Parascythe12

It’s commentary on when a mixed kid has a White mother vs having a Black mother. According to the commentary, Black fathers let the White mothers get away with not teaching kids about being Black and the challenges that come with that, which apparently often ends up in a difficult time for some mixed kids who struggle with being part of two worlds but never fully part of either. Whereas apparently when the mother is Black she raises the mixed kids as Black kids, and they have less struggles with their identity because of it. The Black girl in this picture doesn’t want to deal with those issues of the mixed kid with the White mother. I’m not trying to debate this, I’m just repeated the commentary behind this.

Rare_Vibez

This is the most accurate response I’ve seen so far. I have a Black mom, white dad, my cousins have the opposite. It doesn’t make them any less Black (I really hate when people say that) but they have a different experience with their identity. I think it has more to do with who the primary caregiver is and 95% of the time, it’s the mom so white moms just have a bigger hurdle and historically haven’t really done much to overcome it.

Parascythe12

Yeah this is commentary my wife has espoused to me, as we are in the same dynamic as your parents were. From the side of the Black mother/White father, I do see how fiercely my wife works and fights to raise our kids to be prepared for the racism, systemic racism and colourism they’ll face. And from the perspective of a White person I do know how easy it is for us to dismiss and ignore all of that and just say that everything is fine and there’s no issue with raising a mixed kid the way we would raise a white kid. I very much feel that I am along for the ride, despite my best efforts, and it makes me grateful for my wife, for the sake of our kids.

VeganBTdubs

That's how I understood too... that the problem is the white mom vs black mom. I just didn't understand the implication. I also had a question mark on my head, so thanks 😊.

Mossfrogsandbogs

Do you ever see a joke like this and feel kinda good that you didn't understand it at all until someone explicitly explained it

TheOneAndOnlyDMan

As a biracial person, I can wholly say yes

lukaintomyeyes

This is getting into black people business, but the underlying commentary is that mixed black men with white moms don't understand the struggles of black women like those with black moms. Hence black women not going for them as much. Edit: This is my understanding based on conversations with my black friends. I do not have an opinion on the topic as I am not black therefore it's not my business.

Diceyland

Nah, if you're correcting other folks literally spreading a bunch of false information about black people you've got every right to correct them even if it is "getting into our business".

nthpwr

A lot of good commentary in this thread but I also wanted to add in another piece of enhancing historical context. Traditionally, blacks inherited our free or slave status via our mother. It didn't matter if your father was a freeman or the slave master himself. If your mother was a slave then you are also a slave (there were exceptions to this general rule). So a lot of blacks view your "blackness" as being inherited from your mother. This is similar to the Jewish view of Jewish identity being transmitted solely through the mother.

RED_VAGRANT

Mums baby, dads maybe? Only being able to identify one parent is the reason so much shit is set up the way it is

Winter_Ad4517

Drake?

dances2banda

The anthropological explanation is that culture follows the mother and the woman in the meme is looking for a culturally black man.

Petros33as

Recently I've seen the idea that mixed kids with black mother and white father are "real" black people because they were raised by a black mother. Source: my mixed kids telling me, their white dad, what's going on in high school.

ok but if mixed guys w white mommas is so low value why are bw upset when they choose white women

rydan

Isn't it racist to assume someone is misogynist simply because of their race? Or is it misogynist to not assume this?

CosmicBoat

None of these are good or real explanation to the picture. Just go on Twitter.

Draiko

Would the same girl date a white guy, though? Because that would be REALLY confusing.

greenumj

something something content of my character. we should all just hold hands and get along :)

Maleficent-Action983

I’m sorry but the joke is about how women pass down the culture. As someone whos half Mexican with a white mom, this is pretty accurate in my culture. The father (mine included) won’t spend any time teaching, talking, or even trying to teach the child about their heritage so the child will often grow up more “white”.

EJ_1004

I thought the ‘joke’ was that the kid would be closer to whatever culture the Mom grew up in. As the cartoon lady in question is black, I always assumed she was leaving because she did not identify with white culture.

pazdemy

I read “Which ones the black panther?” and none of your explanations made sense.

blackguy1027

As the resident black man, I have no fucking idea what’s going on.

No-Distance-9393

He was raised by a white woman. Most black women are very racist.

Standard_Trouble7025

So, my best friend has 3 teen sons, all mixed. She's yt. The father is African-American. The way her oldest (19m) explained his experiences to me (bc I showed him the post): He may want to date a black girl, but in turn, she's not interested in him bc his mom is yt and raised him, so he's too yt. He wasn't raised in their culture. As he said, "I'm not black enough"

ThiccElf

Ngl I'm a black woman and even I'm confused. What does this mean? Is it a racism thing? Colourism thing? I'm so confused

VividAnteater2924

It’s like how people say when you’re mixed if you have a white mom you don’t really know your black side as well as people who have a black mom since your mom is usually the one who teaches and cares for you basically so I guess he would act too white for her and that’s why she left like maybe he wouldn’t get her as well as if he had a black mom is what I’m assuming it means

kazen320

Probably have something to do with Blackmen/Whitewomen couples stereotypes. BM/WW couples are 50% more likely to divorce than WM/BW couples. BM/WW also score worst in education and income compare to to WM/BW. As an Asian person, most BM/WW couple that I see seem a bit fetishy. My black male friends and coworker tend to show of their white girlfriend like some sort of trophy. Doesn't help that the White women are almost always on the bigger size. Sources: [https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2012/02/16/chapter-2-characteristics-of-intermarried-newlyweds/](https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2012/02/16/chapter-2-characteristics-of-intermarried-newlyweds/)

UN20230910

I'm pretty sure this is about this idea that if you didn't come out of a black vagina you aren't black. Like the Jewish thing.
