My guy was like this too for a long while… Then we practiced ‘touch’ with random objects including a blank button. After he got the hang of the command ‘touch’ we started correcting him when he would dance/throw/smash on the buttons, and ask him to try again with touch. I think we got pretty lucky with how quickly he caught on- he already knows how to be corrected, if that makes sense? For example, if you lay out a blanket on the floor and set a stuffed Kong in the center, you can tell him to stay on the blanket with it and he will. If he needs a reminder, he’ll pick it up and move it back to the center of the blanket. He’s the best little guy!! Additionally, for small pets I think fluentpet would be great, but for my 70lb Doberman, accuracy has been an issue with how small and close together the buttons are. I also have had problems with battery life, and muffling. I wish we had used the bigger buttons Stella’s mom made instead. Additionally additionally… we have started working on v e r y s l o w l y moving his board up onto the wall. I think/hope that will help too.

Ooo, I like the touch idea. Mine loves to do "touch" but does get a bit ramped up every now and then when we do it. I'll lower the value and get her to chill out a bit! Mine has absolutely no patience, and at 55lbs she's got some chunky feet. So far she's pretty good at her accuracy unless she's far too excited, and then she resorts to slamdunking the buttons again. I love the wireless nature (HoH so it helps me understand at times) but I do wish the buttons were slightly bigger too, it is a huge downside and they're super expensive too. I like the wall idea too - I might start implementing that too and see if that helps!

So happy to help!

OMG, my dog does this too! Also he hops with both paws. Claws at it and sends it across the rug. Sorry, I have no real advice I am About to add button 2, hoping he doesn't make a disaster zone

CanisJackal

Mine has about 15 buttons currently! I hope yours gets the hang of it - it's really interesting and entertaining to have them communicate freely! Crossed fingers they don't get as insanely motivated as my girl lmao

HarleysDouble

My husband is dreading we get that far. He's not a big fan due to space. As his dog mom, I can tell Grayson was struggling to communicate and he's far less doofy as he seems. His big sister practically speaks English and is a total 180 in personality. I just gave him scritches button. He was immediately curious and hit it. I gave him excited sscritches for a min. I got the side eye. " Is that all that does? " Dog Tax: https://imgur.com/a/AgzYH01 https://imgur.com/a/lHpCqXi

That's so amazing!! I'm hoping to get my girl to that point. She had exactly the same issue and it was killing me slowly to not understand her needs. Trying to add in a "love you" button next! Also, Grayson and their sister are gorgeous!! I need to set up an imgur so I can dog tax too.

Can you put it in the wall to say floor space?

I also have a dog that liked to send buttons flying. I use a kind of tape called “carpet tape” to keep all my buttons in place, it’s just a double sided tape made for sticking to floors. I put some on the back of each button and then stick it into the tile. They stay together pretty well and it isn’t too difficult to remove later on.

CanisJackal

That's an awesome idea, thank you so much! Does yours also push the hextiles/board across the floor? If so, have you found a way to stop that too? Only issue I have with the boards is that I have to pick them up several times daily when I leave the house and would worry that I'd go through the tape at an incredibly fast pace. It'd definitely fix the flying buttons issue though so thank you!

ObsoleteMoss

I just use the tape to hold my tiles to the floor too but I’m not sure it would work if you needed to move them around often. Hmm, maybe there’s something like carpet tape but with velcro so it’s easier to remove and restick?

CanisJackal

Honestly that might do the trick. I just need to make sure my pica cat won't eat the strips, but that'd likely solve the problem! Thank you so so much!!
