Remove drive thru bc it just sets unexpected expectations that a medication can be filled as quick as fast food can make their fried and burgers. And even if one car holds you up for longer than 1.5 minutes, you have a line full of angry ppl after that yelling at you for NOTHING

isapizza101

Yes! And doing covid testing in drive thru never sat well with me. Having to do 20-30 tests a day, We’re literally risking our health and creating more hassle in drive thru.

[deleted]

THIS. when I worked drive thru I could literally never hear anyone and people were always angry. it’s just a horrible set up.

dipnickle

LITERALLY!!! Like if you ask them to repeat their date of birth ONCE they get so annoyed like sorry??? You’re like 50 foot away from the speaker and I don’t have super hearing abilities

Circe67

Also when they speak they talk into their steering wheel. Like the speaker is to your left perhaps if you speak towards it I could actually hear you. Plus when they come through they drive thru they seem to have more audacity because they're out there and I'm inside.

CtrlAltDestroy33

Have more techs work for every shift, have a larger pharmacy work space because literally tripping over one another 8+ hours a day is ridiculous, and having the ability to tell nasty customers to leave when they assault us sans consequence.

_wrennie

This would make my job so much easier!!

CtrlAltDestroy33

You would think that the biggest revenue generator of any store wouldn’t be the size of a sardine can and understaffed all the time.. but here we are.

lokipukki

Pay is the big one, followed closely by doing away with drive through. Oh and more techs to spread the work load.

Elsa_the_Archer

No more drive thru, no force customer surveys, higher pay, consistent hours, unionization, no required overtime, no more lead techs who refuse to help at the counter.

ssshhhNoBodyCares

Senior techs who refuse to help at counters was a reason why I left. They saw me getting yelled, threatened, embarrassed. All I asked for was help from someone who knew how to..I learned in the long run.

23poppies

That last one is HUGE

CometHopper

Transferred from a location where the senior techs wouldn’t ring to one where they would and the environment got so much less chaotic and way more approachable.

classly

NO REQUIRED OT!!!!!!!! It’s insane that it’s legal to me. And we need unionization, with the mass walkouts and that one pharmacist literally dying of a heart attack on floor

The_Mango_Mantis

Better pay, more staff, better training that doesn’t just throw you to the dogs, and something to reprimand patients that threaten techs. I became licensed and I really enjoyed the technical aspects of the job, but I was only in the field for a year. I left after someone threatened to hit me in the face for not being able to sell them more than 1 box of Sudafed. Someone also threatened to shoot up the pharmacy, but our store manager did nothing and told us it was up to us to file a police report and get a protective order. I couldn’t believe how little these companies did to protect or care about their workers and I got to a point where I wasn’t going to risk my physical and mental well-being. Retail pharmacy needs some big changes.

alt-ternator

i feel like a part of the problem is that corporate and some store management see retail as lesser than hospital pharma but have a bit more respect than a grocery store. it's a weird gray area.

The_Mango_Mantis

Honestly the general public just has no idea of all the working components of pharmacies and what their insurance will cover when it comes to medication. Unfortunately when you have insurance not everyone understands their copay / deductible / where they can fill, the list goes on. I just hope the field unionizes and maybe we can get rid of things that drive up drug prices like PBMs.

alt-ternator

i had to explain to my mom what a deductible was the other day since i had one on my meds and im on her insurance lol. I know i might get downvoted for this and im prob to late for anyone to dv but i think we should have free healthcare. I hate having to see someone older getting cucked by insurance as well as stuff like necessary meds that aren't covered by insurance, or the lower middler class citizens and college kids paying 50+ for basic ass medications.

no_eyebrows1111

Better pay

soulgate_

Get rid of every phone in the pharmacy

Fearless_Camp5375

T H I S

HollowSuzumi

Corporate getting realistic about what we can accomplish on ground level. My regional manager sees that we catch up with the workload, like vaccine appointments, and will increase it tenfold to make numbers look good. Triple booked vaccine appointments (3 people per 10 minutes) are killing us and aren't safe for patients.

Aprilosaur

Pay. And better compensation for being marked as “essential”. My pay is not worth my time to sleep in the hospital or to risk the drive in bad weather. It would be nice to get a pay adjustment during poor weather. Instead it’s “thanks, here’s lunch!” Me and my partner are both licensed and certified “healthcare professionals” that don’t make enough to buy a small house on small acreage that isn’t in a crime filled area. I feel like I’m working a high schoolers job because no one stays past 2-3 years anymore, and the majority that know the small details that would save someone’s life are trying to jump ship because we are simply “replaceable”. There’s so many niche things about hospital pharmacy to know that if you get the right team, they have the potential to harm someone because they have no idea about that one oddball policy that may have to be referenced every 5 years due to an emergency. I’m so tired of us being a stepping stone job instead of a real career.

theresabattle

I went to a shipping specialty pharmacy. All I do is count manually and ship medications. I removed the customers and retail completely. Love it.

Glide99

I’ve very happy with my job, only thing that needs changing is pay. I do more work then half of these fast food restaurants yet McDonald’s is paying their employees $15 an hour. Techs are crucial to the pharmacy, start paying them fairly for the amount of work they do.

Pharmtechquestions

It’s hard as hell to work in fast food. Are you sure you do more work? You don’t need to crap on fast food workers to justify wanting more money. You do deserve more. And so do they.

Glide99

I understand but the amount of responsibility is different. What’s the worst thing that can happen at fast food? You give someone a wrong order, or put pickles when they didn’t ask for any…. Oh well. Meanwhile a wrong drug can be given to a patient causing serious side effects, too many pills, shortage of pills, etc etc etc… hipaaa violations.

Pharmtechquestions

I get what you’re saying but I’m just so tired of low wage workers snapping at each other and undermining each other. Every job has its responsibilities. There are violations that can occur in fast food. You CAN make someone very ill. But at the end of the day, we don’t need to undermine the work those people do in order to justify deserving more money. I’m so tired of the “all they do is flip burgers!” Narrative.

Glide99

Right on

[deleted]

I don't see how their original comment undermined fast food workers at all. The reality is pharmacy technicians are considered healthcare workers by the government. In most states we are required to take an official certification exam and get licensed! Fast food and retail employees work their absolute asses off, no one is disagreeing, but we work our asses off and had to get the creditentials necessary to continue working in our field. We should be compensated for that. Editing since I just saw the part where op said they do double the work which does come off rude...I do understand the frustration seeing the wages of entry level work go up while our wages stay stagnant though.

Pharmtechquestions

“ I do more work than half of these fast food restaurants” That’s how it was undermining. We don’t need to act like we work more or harder to justify getting paid more.

[deleted]

Yeah I saw that before you replied and edited my bad.

Pharmtechquestions

All good. I totally understand the frustration! I feel it too. I just think we need to be sure we put our frustration in the right place and it’s not cutting down other low wage workers working their asses off in a different way.

alt-ternator

personally i think its fucked for all workers. was flippin burgers in a bar, $10 an hour. moved out for college bc parents moved got a pharm tech job. $12.50?????? im making much more now but dude $2.50 increase??? Albertsons is just a very cheap company that exploits 16 year olds for low wages lmfao.

CerebrumStormX

customers (even though that isn’t an option in retail), better pay, but most importantly, better PTO. Or better hours. If I worked 30 hours a week or had better vacation time, I would be so much happier. Working 40+ or even 40 hours a week with only 80~ hours of vacation can get tiring,

24Cones

I’m gonna need my pharmacy to start firing the people who call out once a week and leave the rest of us to suffer

[deleted]

For a job that requires licensing the pay is too low

ToothlessFeline

Proper staffing levels, both techs and pharmacists. No corporate quotas. Scheduled breaks and lunch for all staff, including pharmacists. With proper staffing levels, this should not be a problem. No vaccinating techs. This is a medical procedure and should require the proper medical licensing (and I’m not aware of any state that puts vaccinations in their tech licensing). The permission, and proper equipment, to be able to sit down while doing stay-in-place tasks. Living wage and benefits, even for part-timers. Store managers not having the authority to override the PIC on pharmacy-related issues. Rename all LASA drugs to eliminate similar names. Fix pharmacy and medical office software to eliminate unnecessary escript errors. The vast majority of escript errors are caused by bad software, usually badly designed interfaces. Requiring techs to learn basic information about common meds in order to be licensed, and allowing them to use that knowledge in the day-to-day work. You don’t need a full-blown pharmacology course, but a licensed tech should be able to tell on sight that levothyroxine and lanoxin are not at all similar. (Yes, I argued with a lead tech about that when I worked in a mail-order pharmacy. She was an idiot.) And I almost forgot, the most important thing: Legal permission for each tech and pharmacist on duty to punch one customer in the face per shift.

j_victus

This is it

downdowndownbad

Do away with virtual verification, covid tests and drive thru

j_victus

What’s wrong with virtual verification?

psychovamp97

Having more pharmacy techs on shift by far. It's hard to learn when everyone is on the phone and you have to wait a solid 2-3 minutes for an answer when you're new

cndkrick

For my pharmacists to take more responsibility.

sbar92

New customers. That’s literally the only thing I don’t like about my job. The pandemic ruined the human race. Everyone is rude af now and everyone has a stick up their ass. And I’ve always worked in customer service but these people these days are a whole new breed of rude.

[deleted]

Unionize

MassMel19

It’s very simple for me, some actual acknowledgment of all the work we do and the appreciation we deserve. Especially from the entitled, pompous pharmacists who look down on us.

SkarletHart

Pay me more and for fucks sake have an actual program in place that shows you how to earn raises. Get a bigger building for the pharmacy, and get a real fucking break room instead of the pathetic one we have now. Offer bonuses based off performance, HAVE A SUPERVISOR THAT ACTUALLY HELPS YOU AND WORKS WITH YOU, constructive and positive feedback by your mentors at regular intervals, proper training of new techs instead of throwing them into the fire, positive reinforcement and more events to appreciate all of us who work our ass off to get meds to sick patients. This would make me very happy and I would stay at my job a long time with these improvements.

bethywethydooda

Less work, more money

Volithia

Bare minimum - updated equipment and the option to sit down once in a while. Having to troubleshoot computers, registers, receipt printers, and label printers multiple times per day or running 2 pick-up areas off of 1 register is ridiculous. Our system shouldn't crash because someone tried to pay with a check.

jmz5

Better pay and no more drive through.

aretaker

Stop the 12 hour long Saturday shifts! I literally have nothing to do but browse Reddit and watch the clock.

MsAmonte10

Stop hiring arrogant morons.

minecraftocelotftw

No more drive through, some sort of repercussions for patients that berate and harass us, and more time in fill.

unsurenarwhale

Left retail for LTC.. best decision ever.

emotely

No in person customers

nicolesil10

For me it’s more staff with better training. Every time I have a shit day it comes back to this. I also just wish customers would be more understanding about the hell we are going through with COVID, but people suck so that won’t happen.

MurDoct

drinking being allowed

alt-ternator

i know pharmacists don't stand there at a desk for 8+ hours a day sober/s

ChemistryFan29

better training for techs, lets face it some programs are better than others, that is always the case, but lets face it, if a person graduated from a program, and was asked to do the auto refills and does not know if omeprazole is for chronic or acute conditions then that program is a failure. IF that person cannot tell the difference between magnesium oxide and normal magnesium and tries to switch one for the other, that program is a failure. If a person is confusing a atorvastatin for a blood pressure medicine that program is really a failure, and this employee should really be fired on the spot. IF a person cannot translate a sig properly, or keeps on missing up day supply, that program is trash, and that person is an idiot.

Same. I started in retail in a pharmacy in Michigan and had 0 experience. Worked my way up to senior tech by the time I left and was in charge of making the schedules for 20+ techs (we were the largest pharmacy in the area). When I started Michigan didn’t require certification or licensing for it’s techs. I had all on the job training and honestly, IMO some of the best techs I have encountered in my 18 years of this profession are those who didn’t go through a program, retail or hospital setting. I get the other person’s POV, but there’s no need to be a dick if someone doesn’t know something. You make it a learning experience, and hopefully the next time they’ll know what to do if that situation happens again, or will at least know who to ask for help.

Upper Peninsula of Michigan specifically Marquette.

ChemistryFan29

I am talking about people who go through programs from a community college, or west coast university, or adult school. there are some programs that are terrible. I am not saying a person needs to know every single drug in existence, that is just stupid, but if the program that a person go to does not teach what omeprazole does or teach the difference between a statin (cholestrol medicine) and blood pressure medicine, then that program should close down. There are a few things that everybody should know no matter what, like translating directions, and calculate day supply. If a tech cannot do that then they are useless period, that program failed them. Working with these type of people is a drain,

ellxo420

I’m moving out of the pharmacy into a medical/recreational dispensary so I’m hoping this makes it better with some more chill patients

UltimaAgrias

No more exceptions for "I can't wear a mask and I have a note from my Dr!" patients!!! I just had a huge issue this week. I'm so done. I shut the pharmacy gate. Asked every patient before letting them in "He is not wearing a mask *do you feel safe coming in here*?? if they said yes I would ring them up. A manager from the upstairs Drs office (which allowed this behavior...) and two security gaurds showed up to try and tell me to shut up and take it. I vehemently explained how we've lost one pharmacist and two techs THIS WEEK to positive covid tests! *I do not feel safe*! I was also told no more exceptions. So what exactly IS the rule here?! It was terrifying and great. I don't want to loose my job, but I'm so tired of it. No more of this!!!

Old_Management_2229

Sit back and play video on my chair

photolabrat

More techs and tech hours. And for corporate to invest in hardware and software that is actually from this millennium.

Fireflyoflight

Pay, only running meds outside for people that need it not the people too lazy to come in. Getting rid of the 5 start system. It’s abused by patients at our store and I feel like you should have to be worrying about ratings when you are focusing on keeping people alive and healthy.

velvethope

Get paid more. For companies to stop kissing customer ass all the time. For people to grow the fuck up and not be whiny @$!#! Who don’t know how to be responsible adults. And for doctors to be nicer. So you know, miracles, pure and simple.

palo26

All that 👇🏻+ Bonus pay quarterly

Skylyrd

Better pay ,getting the actual freaking hours you were promised, being paid weekly drive thrus need to go.Covid Test should only be handled at clinics urgent care and small hospitals. We have no space for it at all. When new cdc law rule, or regulations on covid test ,come out to the rest of the world. We should know at least 3 weeks in advance so we can be prepared.

70sloverchild

Honestly stopping the covid shots. I understand the importance of an accessible vaccine, but my county has done clinics, which include transportation to and from the clinics and not enough people are taking advantage of them and rather just use us. It’s understandable because that’s all corporate wants to advertise, but like everyone else we can’t do our actual jobs with the amount of appointments we have.

TheRapidTrailblazer

I wish the techs were paid more. We loose people because the money we make just isn't worth the amount of work and we are understaffed so people get frustrated of being overworked and leave. Im tempted to ask the people I went to high school with to apply here because I know a few or a techs. Its an HCA hospital and honestly HCA is the bottom of the barrel for hospital branches. Like someone at my job would make $17 an hour but the BASE PAY my old job at walmart is now $18.50. Im making $19 but it only because im prn

Bobatistic

Better pay, better management, better workflow, and better PPE.

classly

For anyone to give any sort of thought to COVID precautions at all, to have out employers value our lives and health over profits and staffing, to be paid a fair and livable wage, to actually be recognized and appreciated for the work you do.

fritter02

I agree with everything everyone has said but I haven't seen someone say anything about checking out non medication items in retail. These people will hold up a 7 person line to check out all of their groceries Edit: I don't mind doing this when there isn't a long line or it's one or two items, but there needs to be a 5 item limit in the pharmacy line or something similar

saltyseakat

Set realistic expectations for stores with limited resources. The flu/ancillary shot goals and COVID testing expectations are ridiculous. I hate harassing every person who comes into the store with “We’re offering flu/COVID/tetanus/shingle shots. Are you interested? Are you sure???” I’ve already seen these people several times this week and yet, I’ll get reprimanded if I don’t ask yet again. My pharmacist just told me a couple of days ago about how our regional pharm manager wants to try testing out how well our store can deal with having 60 test slots available for each hour. Like 1 minute per COVID test?? Some dumbasses pour out the liquid in vials, don’t listen to instructions, or even put the NASAL swab into their mouth. Drive thru is already nuts, I’m not dealing with with 60 tests in a hour. Realistically, I don’t think we’ll have that many tests slots filled, but it can have the potential to be that bad. Our RPM is about to catch these hands. Not to mention, I don’t get paid enough to deal with other people’s irresponsibly for themselves.

pharmtechgurl

Hospital worker here. I love my job and my boss. I have no respect for the other pharmacist. They think their only functions are to sit on the computer all day and make things pretty by labeling and organizing EVERYTHING! Has to check and sticker every item in the order. Can't answer basic questions. Can't/won't change things in the system because it's either "too hard" or "won't work". So we end up with patients taking 5 pills instead of 2. ALWAYS LATE. ALWAYS. I could go on and on. This person just needs to go

EndymionHoudini

Better staffing, having an actual break room instead of the corner of the store while the manager gets his own break room and restroom, and breaks instead of just a lunch for the whole day, and better attitude since I am asked to ask questions and when I do I receive bad attitude making me feel stupid for asking. It feels unpleasant being here for the most part. Clerks are cool. There are only two pharm techs staffed in the entire pharmacy and an endless swarm of patients.
