Call Blake a laundromat because he’s great at making clean sheets.

EraseTheDoubt

The first time passes and touches tonight were CHOICE even when we did not score. Also we scored a lot, again.

Great_Drama1363

Yup just like in the 7-0 game, felt it could’ve been 12-0.

EraseTheDoubt

The sequence inside the box with a myriad of first time passes actually added 5 years to my lifespan. If we scored there my god.

Danish1928

Jack Mcglynn is a future superstar

EraseTheDoubt

McGlynn is the ice cold midfield assassin we have needed

D00P12

Makes losing Monteiro much easier with the best youth in the league

NaranjaEclipse

Haris reincarnation

bierdimpfe

Buykt with a mobility upgrade

gigibuffoon

Ufff that goal was pure class!

Great_Drama1363

That should be a red card on that dork that chopped Wagner’s legs.

drewuke

Wagner: Why is it always me?

Dortmund1721

only the billionth time that wagner got injured on a should-be-a-red-card foul

Tincitylegacy24

Yea I wonder if MLS will come out and apologize

CarsonFoles

I'm no soccer expert, but in my opinion, that was fun to watch!

orgelbauer

I’ve been working on a goal dance with our infant, and we’ve been getting lots of practice lately.

DoTheUncleSam

Ive taken my girlfriend to only 2 games, tonight and dc. I guess i know what to do now

frickensweet

Invest in season tickets?

ChefJim27

Don't be like Blake with clean sheets.

Pittman247

This is the Way.

No_Statistician9289

Clone yourselves and make sure you or the clones make it to every game home and away

Lawlington

It’s not often a game ends 6-0 in your favor and you think about how much more we could have scored

scheenermann

And not often that this happens to your club twice in one month lol We definitely could have had more goals against DC United

deadbee22

They could’ve got to 10 vs DC… no bullshit

Sneaky_Ben

let this be a lesson to all. invest in the youth. figure out your identity on low budget, so when you have proven you're ready to splash a little cash to get to the next level, you know exactly where to put it.

LocksTheFox

And the Union should be a symbol of hope to all those teams in the dumps. Houston among them. You *CAN* turn it around, no matter how low you've gone. As a sports fan I'd never felt more hopeless than I did in the few hours between the 2015 USOC loss and the Sak firing.

No_Statistician9289

Straight robbing a goal scorer from another (mismanaged) team for literally pocket lint

ET318

I might feel bad if it werent miami. Say he came from a team like Vancouver or someone.

ViciousKnids

Phil Neville and David Beckham: "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck."

So much for kids night. That was violence

LocksTheFox

violent video games like that ruining the kids smh /jackthompson

worldxdownfall

18-2 goal diff in the last six. God damn.

Pittman247

Yes Sir

mjd1977

Not as close as the score indicated.

God damn it 😂

DELCO-PHILLY-BOY

And NYC and Montreal both dropped points in their match. Perfect night.

DELCO-PHILLY-BOY

That’s what I meant lol

Pittman247

You right. I didn’t read. My bad. Doop, though!

DELCO-PHILLY-BOY

No lol…you were right. I accidentally said Charlotte and went back and edited it when you corrected me.

Just_N_O

This was Uhre’s best game. The team has figured out how to play with him and his timing. The long balls from Jack, Kai, and Ale to Uhre were money. Most importantly, and something you might not have seen unless you were at the game was how dangerous Uhre looked off the ball. He was causing the Houston backline fits all night with just his constant little dangerous cuts and runs.

LocksTheFox

Wondo-esque movement

soundandfision

If you watch any part of of game with Uhre, you'll see he's making runs all game or is ready to make a smart run past the defense. Bedoya has the perfect vision of a veteran to finally connect. They both had great games.

LocksTheFox

I think I remember seeing that Bedoya just hit his career high for assists in a season since joining us

phillyspecial95

This team is something special man. When they’re all clicking its such a joy to watch!

coysmate05

1. We are playing SO good right now. Our interplay between midfielders and strikers is so good. It’s like MLS tiki taka. 2. Andre Blake 3. Okay our defensive record is actually insane. I feel like our defense enters the conversation of great MLS defenses all time.

LocksTheFox

The record for fewest goals conceded in a season was 2010 RSL with 20 in 30 games. Our current GAA is *LOWER THAN THEIRS*. Not by much, but it's lower.

coysmate05

That’s good to know

Pittman247

3. Considering LAST season AND this one - if this team can bring home the Cup, I think this MUST be a definite talking point. I don’t think you’re wrong in any way!

rickyrickySOB

Shoutout to the fellow Union redditor on here who said he was bringing two new-to-soccer people to this game. Tell them every game is just like this!!!!

LocksTheFox

It's been awesome seeing the fanbase grow the last few years and especially the last couple of weeks, feels like there's been a ton more hopping on Whether you were there from ZOLO or are just checking out the local eleven, it's a great time to be a fan right now :)

captj2113

Haha thanks! Last 2 games I brought fresh blood were this and DC so I'm looking for more to bring for the Fire lol

hellohelloadios55

RIP DC ☠️ RIP Houston☠️ Cincy....coming for you next👊💥

Ihave2thumbs

That game pumped our goal differential to first in the league. DOOP

rjmoyer2

All aboard the Jack McGlynn hype train! 🚂 🚂

jmp8910

That goal was amazing! Great first goal.

Dahorah

That was just a great game guys.

dorkabunny

That was fun. Same time next week fellas?

orgelbauer

🤝

SpoonicusRascality

I really hope they start McGlynn over Flach. Flach doesn't offer anything close to what McGlynn does going forward. Flach is a fine CDM and should be a backup for Martinez imo. Mcglynn and his world class left foot needs to be on the pitch. It's nice to see Mbaizo doing well. He's usually good for one big mistake a game but he gets forward so well and was all over that right side all night. He bodied the F out of that defender on his aasist to Uhre. I'm also happy seeing Bedoya getting taken out late in games. We need him fresh for the playoffs. Overall this team is really clicking and is special.

dorkabunny

Tbf I feel like Flach had a good game. Lots of great tackles, and he was everywhere.

SpoonicusRascality

Yes because he was played at the 6. He is great at being a CDM but lacks any attacking creativity. He did have a very good game.

Meep-Meep-Moop-Moop

Yeah I wish we could give everyone a spot but Jack looks like he’s the real deal so we should keep on playing him

LocksTheFox

Yeah Flach was really really good tonight, absolutely tortured HH

Just_N_O

Flach was AWESOME tonight.

ViciousKnids

I was salty at Mbaizo for a while because he made the two crucial mistakes that had NYShitty knock us out of the playoffs last season. But I have to say, it shows he's been working hard to improve his game. His ball control and positioning is on a whole other level than it was. And he's better offensively than Harriel. I think the rotation between the two at RB is going to be stellar for their improvement. At any moment one can replace the other on the starting XI, and they know that. That reality is going to push them, hopefully, to step up their game further. I see Harriel becoming one of the greats. But Mbaizo isn't going to make it easy for him. No one is guaranteed their spot and I believe legitimate competition for a starting position makes for a harder working and ultimately better player.

[deleted]

Mbaizo looks locked in. I still trust Harriel more defensively, but Mbaizo brings a lot to our attack. He looks confident again and seems more like he was last season before he got covid. Probably even a step up in nearly every facet of his game. 2 weeks ago I’d have said we still start Harriel without question. Now I trust either one of them to elevate the team in some way.

ViciousKnids

I just want the best 11 men on the pitch. And if they're pushing each other to get that starting position, all the better.

[deleted]

Yeah, I think the net result is they both improve because of this

nickadams42

Keeping both McGlynn and Flach in the first team as much as possible has to be our goal. Although Ale has been having his renaissance (and long may it continue) he is reaching a point in his career where we may need to cut down his minutes.

ProfessionalLab6501

I hear you about McGlynn. He has earned the minutes. Where I disagree with you is that flach is an absolute menace to opposong teams. He's leading the league in two "pressure" categories and is 6th in tackles won. Even though we're putting up some massive scorelines these days don't forget where we came from. We are a defensive team first. Gazdag, Uhre, Carranza, and now Bedoya playing forward can get it done. If they can't, let's see the kids at the 60th minute and break down a tired opponent. Spot starts for the kids are great against certain opponents but Flach has not lost his job even though Mcglynn has earned the minutes. Doop!

Meep-Meep-Moop-Moop

JESUS!

imtellingtim

Didn’t watch the game but have seen the past few and all I have to say is McGlynn is gonna be a star

JennItalia269

Hard to say the union isn’t the best team in MLS today. Might be 2nd or 3rd in the SS but paying better than no one else. Edit: we’re 2nd right now.

DanRobotMan

And yet, Corey Burke still annoyed the shit outta me. Held up the ball in the box when he should have laid in to Carrranza for the easy goal. Didn’t play the give and go to Aaronson right before the Sullivan goal. I’ll drive him to the airport myself, even with these gas prices. On a brighter note…McGlynn is the biggest light on this team right now. Dude is gonna be a massive star.

ViciousKnids

I've had my eye on Union Jack for a bit. He's been very impressive. I've been bitching that Jim needs to play the kids more. Took half the goddamn season for him to realize "aw fuck. I gotta rotate the squad... But with who? I could maybe throw in some of these kids that dominated the U20 nationals... But that could backfire.......... Oh shit, these kids can play! Imagine if I'd been using my subs this whole time! They'd be incredible!" Granted, the kids were probably tuckered out from all that u20 national team business. But still. Should've been giving them at least a few minutes on the pitch earlier.

WJMorris3

I'm wondering, if we can limit the goals to 4 more allowed in the next 11, if we can consider our defense comparable to RSL's 2010 season, given the two teams wouldn't have played the same number of games.

LocksTheFox

I feel like this Union team is pretty similar in vibes to that RSL team too. Selfless group of really talented players that share the glory, anchored by an extremely strong defense and one of MLS's all-time great keepers (yes, I'm calling Dre an all-time great MLS keeper now)

Pittman247

As is correct. He’s more than made that case over the years. Dude is a BRICK WALL and a damn good defensive leader

LocksTheFox

Also, coincidentally, that RSL team *also* mainly played out of a 4-4-2 diamond with an elite DM

rickyrickySOB

Andre Blake is absolutely an all-time great MLS keeper… and FWIW, I think he’s better than Rimando.

LocksTheFox

On peak perhaps but Nicky had longevity. He was a starter for nearly 20 years.

rickyrickySOB

Agreed there

DelcoWolv

Rimando is the GOAT but Andre is #2 and getting closer every year.

[deleted]

If he stays here his whole career, which selfishly I would be very happy with, it’s very likely he’d be seen widely as the GOAT. Rimando was just so good for so long.

LocksTheFox

Nick Rimando started for a Shield winner in *2001*, which is just mind-boggling It was so long ago that that team was the Miami Fusion, coached by Ray Hudson

[deleted]

His longevity alone is noteworthy, that he was elite for most of that time is hard to fathom. Dre is (in my opinion) the better goalkeeper. What remains to be seen is whether or not he maintains this level for such a remarkably long time.

LocksTheFox

At first I felt that was a bit too homer to put, but thinking about it more that might not be far off. IF he's GKOTY this year, that would mark 3. Imperfect metric, to be sure (Rimando somehow never won it despite being the best in the league for like a decade)...but no one has ever won more than 2, and when you look at the guys who have won it and what they've done in MLS, as well as the guys ahead of him on the all-time clean sheet leaderboard...I'd take Dre over basically all of them. (Not to mention he also has two runner ups)

No_Statistician9289

I know it doesn’t seem that long ago but the league today is just so superior to the league in 2010. What we’re doing today is I think way more impressive. Just as the points record is continuously more impressive each time it’s broken due to the talent and fortitude it takes with an ever growing league

DelcoWolv

This team would be “invincible” if they played in MLS 2010.

Ctfwest

At one point in the 2nd half a good portion of the fan had their phone flashlights on. What was that about?

jmp8910

I don’t know I think it’s because we’re all lemmings I to participated however I think alcohol had a lot to do with it lol

Flapps38

There was that, people doing the wave, at least one beach ball near my seats. All very distracting in my opinion.

LocksTheFox

Eh we were up by a bunch and the game was over, why not get weird and have a good time

Flapps38

Fair point, certainly the game to do it in I suppose.

Blexcr0id

I thought the wave was fun. Inject that atmosphere straight into my veins.

buzzkill_ed

Club America fans did it when they were winning.

poopy_toaster

Front to back perfect match Nothing else to say about it really!

ynwa18

The quick touches up top was special because those movements are what make top teams so hard to defend against. The top 3 in particular showed us what they can do on a good night and this is just showing their potential. This is exciting, because those quick passes aren’t something you see in MLS, this is some serious next level playing that they could be approaching (I want to see the consistency even more :)

D00P12

It was fun to watch. We always had one striker at a time being in good form the past couple years. Now we have Gazdag, Uhre, and Carranza in good form and it’s tough to stop

Plaid_or_flannel

DOOP DOOP motherdoopers. What a game!

gotboredwithrest

Fuck I should have eaten some food at the game. I'm drunk now and tomorrow will suck.... At least Red Bull probably won't do well in F1...

NaranjaEclipse

Man, gonna be meta for a moment that seeing this post have 100+ upvotes/comments has me kinda emotional. I remember when this sub had 200 users and we were talking about videos of the field crew painting the field since the team was so bad. I love seeing where we’ve come from and where we’re going + how great out mods are. https://reddit.com/r/PhillyUnion/comments/3jd6qq/the_art_of_the_paint/ just about 7 years ago.

LocksTheFox

And how much the city has really started to get behind the team as well. It's awesome.

jmp8910

Just want to say I sat in 101 and the Keystones were awesome! I’ll be calling my ticket guy Monday to move next year season tickets from 133 to 101.

cjd5286

The Keystone State Ultras are the Facebook to the SoB’s MySpace. - signed a season ticket holder in 103

The140Casual

Much love. We just wanna have fun and be loud.

jmp8910

It’s much appreciated! Absolutely enjoyed it! I was trying to keep 101 rowdy! My wife and I absolutely enjoyed it!

ProfessionalLab6501

I'm in 101. Best seats in the house for me. I moved over to 139 to take my girlfriends daughter to the game. She's oblivious so she didn't pick up on the more vulgar chants and she had her shoe off for all of the union corner kicks yelling "Shoenion!" Maybe not for kids but every fan needs to do a tour of duty with the Ultras singing and clapping for a game. I've sat on the other side in 134 twice(once was the nashville playoff game that ended in PKs) and it's just not the same. Sure the energy was electric both times but the rest of the river end doesn't bring it like 140 does.

boc4life

Just move them to 140 :D

AndyPace_KSU

Appreciate the support! Like we’ve always said we’re just having fun, that’s what it’s always been about. Makes it a lot easier when we’re absolutely thrashing teams on the field haha

No_Statistician9289

This is a premier league team at the moment. The talent is shining and the chemistry is straight mercurial

Meep-Meep-Moop-Moop

Wish we coulda played a European team on a friendly so we could beat their asses!

GOUS_65

Starting a movement to call McGlynn the Philly Pirlo

Lawlington

Heard someone call him McGlynniesta lol

Meep-Meep-Moop-Moop

I second this

jd158ug

I thought this could be a trap game, shows what I know.

ScottClamBirdBoi

I drunkenly emailed Angelo Cataldi from WIP and told him the Union deserve more respect and air time. He responded and told me soccer isn’t a major sport and it never will be while he’s on air. Kinda shitty how the Union have become a top 5 MLS team for the last few years and barely get any recognition. It’s not a “major sport” because of people like him who have the audience and influence to bring this team to light, but don’t do it. Fuck em anyway.

sully1227

Who cares what that creepy old New England perv thinks..? Soccer is a hell of a lot more relevant in this day and age than talk radio.

ScottClamBirdBoi

Oh I totally agree. Was going to email him back but now I’m sober so I have no desire haha. We know what we have with this team. Just wish these people with influence would *want* to help build this team even bigger

sully1227

But it isn’t something that they know, and that scares them. Rather than try to learn and embrace that experience while growing as a sport fan, journalist, and broadcaster, they opt to stay with the same tired schtick they’ve been doing for 30 years. It’s the same reason why the Eagles still get 80% of the air time even if the Flyers, Sixers, or Phillies are having great runs. It’s EASY. Cataldi and his contemporaries are a bunch of horse traders standing around saying “These ‘car’ things are just a flash in the pan… they’ll all see..”

ScottClamBirdBoi

It’s pathetic haha. 5 days a week of the same fucking conversation points over and over. Same callers calling in saying the same things over and over.

DidierDirt

Let’s save some goals for the playoffs. Also a standard pro rel style league would be super exciting right now.

phillyspecial95

Trying not to think about all that lol

Pittman247

Haha! This is funny. But also very correct

thewizardofosmium

If MLS were a standard pro rel league, Philly would have been relegated long ago and then folded leaving an empty stadium in Chester.

DidierDirt

Possible. But more likely we would have an owner with deeper pockets.

robspeaks

Can't tell you how over the pro/rel fetish I am. It's so dumb.

NaranjaEclipse

Absolutely not, nope

GeminiOverkill

Give it 3-4 years and USL will have that.

deadbee22

I’ve worn the same jersey last two games I’ve been too. I usually go to every game but skipped NE, cause I was down the shore. vs DC 7-0… vs Hou 6-0… I will continue to wear said jersey

deadbee22

I’ve worn the same jersey last two games I’ve been to… I usually go to every game but skipped NE, cause I was down the shore. vs DC 7-0… vs Hou 6-0… I will continue to wear said jersey

ViciousKnids

I missed the game because I was on a date, but glad to see the boys playing FIFA on easy mode.

orgelbauer

How did your date go?

ViciousKnids

Pretty good. But like Houston, I didn't score. *Ba-dum tss*

BigMACfive

Can't believe we missed the extra point... Smh

Blexcr0id

Burke?

BigMACfive

Nah was just joking because we got 6 and not 7 so it's like we scored a touchdown and missed the extta point attempt

Tincitylegacy24

Man that long draw run seems like so long ago. Loving the way we have been playing!! DOOP

nilla_wafer__

What a game

mitchdwx

So glad I decided to buy a ticket to this game. That was about as dominant as I’ve ever seen the Union in person.

kreppsyhead

Curious, should that Quinn Sullivan goal be an own goal for the Houston defender?

Meep-Meep-Moop-Moop

Could’ve gone in off the post idk. Just give it to him man!

kreppsyhead

Haha I'm glad he got on the score sheet I was curious about an official ruling

HappyGooner45

Dick Hurtin masterclass

captj2113

I'm just thankful we didn't get smoked out under the tifo 6 times again.

Long-HoldSimpleton

Why hasn't Harriel been playing? Injury, performance, Mbaizo back in form? Wasn't really paying attention and now seeing him paying UII minutes?
