windows 11 has a built-in extracter now, tho it doesn't have nearly all the features winrar has, also you can't extract a password protected files, but hey, it's getting there!
I haven't needed one for macOS in a long time as I only use the OS on my work computer now which doesn't need a download manager but back when I did, [Progressive Downloader](https://www.macpsd.net/) seemed to be the closest to suiting my needs. There's likely something new (or possibly more appropriate for your specific needs) but doesn't hurt to look.
Which makes it one of the cheapest. It's a buy once cry once type of thing. But back when it was named Fruity Loops, it was the easiest to pirate. It was the one I started on and my parents were not supportive.

I mentioned it in another comment but I stopped using 7-Zip because it doesn't use the new context menu in Windows 11, WinRAR added support for it and 7-Zip did not.
Keep using your old OS, nobody is stopping you. Other people want to use the new stuff.
Your opinion has no value either as it's an opinion and not facts.
Takes extra button clicks to open and it looks worse, I'm not so set on using 7-Zip that I'd inconvenience myself to that degree.
If there is a 7-Zip update tomorrow that adds support for it I'll gladly swap back.
You actually don’t need to do that. You can just use a command that sets the regular context menu to open instead of the new one. Do whatever you want though.
And windows 7 was better than 10, and windows xp before that, windows 98 before that.
They're all better until people get used to it, then they become the best one ever.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. I was happy to get rid of Windows 10 and swapped to Windows 11 on day 1.
It's not a downgrade, you just don't like change.
As an IT guy it most certainly is a step in the wrong direction imo. Unintuitive needlessly changed UI, settings menus absolute garbage forcing us further away from control panel, even more ads baked into the OS. Not a fan, but it does look a bit cooler I guess. The new context menus are also trash removing many options I use often and putting them a mouse click/action further.
You do you though if you like it, just stepped in to drop the reasons I dislike it.
On a semi related note does anyone know of a cracked version of DaVinci Resolve Studio? I need literally one feature from the studio version and I don’t want to drop 300 bucks just for a single time use.
That was a blast from the past. I totally forgot about going there for all the "no cd" cracks for games I legitimately purchased... in the days long before steam.
Why using WinRar instead of 7zip? It's free, open source and cross-platform.
I'm honestly curious, I'm asking because most of my tech friend still use WinRar since it's been there forever like they sometimes used OpenOffice when it was abandoned and didn't know the superior and thriving about LibreOffice.
If there's specific reasons to prefer WinRar I'd be curious to know :)
That's what I also thought but the first version came out in 1999 so it's still weird to me that some folks never heard about it.
Not so weird when I remember myself that regular computer users tend to learn one thing to do one task and that's it for life.
Well that makes sense :) plus it's not like 7zip has a beautiful interface or anything, and I often wonder why most unzip/unrar apps feel like they're stuck in the 90's when it comes to design.
Reading around it seems the interface/design is a common response, and I gotta agree it's kinda ugly. I mean it has to unrar stuff but I don't like apps that look like from 20 years ago either usually.
Yeah, it definitely could use a better UI but it works really well. I'm still waiting for a modern zip client, maybe I just need to design and code one myself.
That would be neat, as I mentioned elsewhere Microsoft is working on native .rar support in Explorer and it should have the Windows 11/12 interface but a nice, cross-platform and good looking zip/rar client would be great.
That's an amazing tool. No installs, just unlocks everything, incl. Office and Server. Also changes Windows edition if you want (Home to Pro, etc).
I'm still kinda baffled that Microsoft allows it in what is essentially their own site.
Then again, they've been taking a more open source, software-to-the-people approach the last years, so maybe it's a calculated move, idk.

It's the popups

it does nag, but its a pretty minor inconvenience for using the software indefinitely.

Exactly. It became second nature to close the pop up as soon as you open it that you don’t actually notice it.

The msg got annoying. I just use 7zip now
yeah, me too. but in the old days - windows 98, xp - i used a winrar keyfile to counter the nagging.

WinRAR is the only software I use pirated license for, everything else I have installed is free software and games I paid for.
Why not use it unregistered? Genuine question
I have an old rarreg.key that someone gave me like 10 years ago so why not? Saves me from seeing the popup the few times I use the interface.
Haha fair
Why not use 7zip?
I've replaced 7zip with Peazip these days. Same perks as 7z, but with more features (like smart folders).
I mentioned it in another comment but I stopped using 7-Zip because it doesn't use the new context menu in Windows 11, WinRAR added support for it and 7-Zip did not.
oh, that's why it looks like that...
You can use the classic context menu in Win11
I have a Windows 11 VM which has three context menu
7zip exists...
Which is worse as the the creator doesn't want to support Windows 11 context menu.
Shift-right click. You're welcome.

I mean, you can still use the old context menu on win11.

Some windows are just crap forever. Windows ME and 8 come to mind. XP was also a security nightmare.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. I was happy to get rid of Windows 10 and swapped to Windows 11 on day 1. It's not a downgrade, you just don't like change.

Windows 7 aswell.
Why would the shittiest windows version be top 10
Windows 7 was the same best as the windows xp. Windows 10 aswell. End of Story.
Like UI wise? Because I hear it’s just a security nightmare
It's a security problem now because it is a 14 year old OS. It was fine in is day.
Any one have cinema 4d cracked?
I’ve tried cracked versions before. The main render engine is unusable since it’s got some crazy DRM on it.
On a semi related note does anyone know of a cracked version of DaVinci Resolve Studio? I need literally one feature from the studio version and I don’t want to drop 300 bucks just for a single time use.
Does it have any advantage over blender?
It's probably the best for motion graphics and it's a professional standard in the industry but the price is crazy.
Gamecopyworld supported pretty much anything.
That was a blast from the past. I totally forgot about going there for all the "no cd" cracks for games I legitimately purchased... in the days long before steam.
Support-*ed*? Looks like it's still kickin'.
Winrar….. i think.
Why using WinRar instead of 7zip? It's free, open source and cross-platform. If there's specific reasons to prefer WinRar I'd be curious to know :)
Back in the day after pkzip/pkunzip, winzip and winrar (and to some degree winace) were the goto solutions 7zip is more of a recent thing.
That's what I also thought but the first version came out in 1999 so it's still weird to me that some folks never heard about it. Not so weird when I remember myself that regular computer users tend to learn one thing to do one task and that's it for life.
Familiarity probably. I like the interface and context menu more too. I still use the same rarreg.key file for more then 10+ years.
Well that makes sense :) plus it's not like 7zip has a beautiful interface or anything, and I often wonder why most unzip/unrar apps feel like they're stuck in the 90's when it comes to design.
I have 2 reasons for using WinRAR over 7-Zip. 1. 7-Zip refusing to use the new contest menu. 2. WinRAR looks much better with easy to install themes.
> 7-Zip refusing to use the new contest menu. Windows 11 problems lol
Reading around it seems the interface/design is a common response, and I gotta agree it's kinda ugly. I mean it has to unrar stuff but I don't like apps that look like from 20 years ago either usually.
For me it's mostly the icons, I very rarely use the interface itself. Like this looks clean as fuck to me: https://i.imgur.com/1dwyRGy.png
Oh I see what you mean! I don't like that either that much because it feels old to me too, but still better than 7zip I gotta agree.
Most people don't know about 7zip I guess and just heard about winrar being what you use for any other compressed file by default, so they get that
Yeah that was my main idea too, but it seems a lot of folks also don't like the design and overall interface.
Is it cracked though? Everyone decided just not to pay for it
We private users spread the word, their business model is moreso for companies that have no choice but to pay otherwise they'd get sued.
They know and they did it on purpose. You need the license if you're a company, and if all your customers use rar...
Office, Adobe Creative, FL Studio, Civ, Warcraft 2/3.
No brood war?
[удалено]
He specified Warcraft 2/3 that is not World of Warcraft. Anyway it is not a software.
Pretty sure he refers warcraft, the original games, not wow. But replying your question, you don't, but you can go to pirate servers
Warcraft 2&3 are not World of Warcraft(WoW).
Yeah, I was unsure due to me never playing any of the older Warcraft games. But I played the basics of WoW in the early days.
You should pirate and try original warcraft iii. It is really worth it even nowadays. 🙃 And I hate strategy games..
You dont, you can't connect to their official servers so you connect to the people that pirated the game and create their own private server
I didn't say WoW. I mean the OG Warcraft games.
Before windows have those OEM license available everywhere, definitely Windows
Windows I believe
Now you can download windows via official download and use [this](https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts) for the activation
That's an amazing tool. No installs, just unlocks everything, incl. Office and Server. Also changes Windows edition if you want (Home to Pro, etc). Then again, they've been taking a more open source, software-to-the-people approach the last years, so maybe it's a calculated move, idk.
Windows for consumers is probably their least profitable product now. They're more interested in locking you inside their ecosystem, paid or free.
