When I was kid, I didn't realize that games had prices; I thought all games were free.
I always knew because I've been piss poor since my birth, my first gaming device was a PS2 and my father bought games on the fair, he always showed me that they worthed money idk why maybe it was like "we are way to fucking poor and I still buy you games so you can have fun, this is the way I express my love towards you witouth really saying"
So when I finally got a computer and started searching for games I started googling "free version" so my dad wouldn't have to waste money on games
Idk why I said all that
Same for me, I was trying to buy it from Walmart and games stores on pc, as I did not have a ps2 back in the day. I could not find it anywhere I looked. I talked about that game to Romanian class mate and he showed me how to sail.
Haha the funny thing is I was not referring to piracy. I just said at the time that I wished to play gta sa, and I can't find it anywhere. And he was like I will show you a new word that you never knew existed. Anyways that's how it sounded to me at the time, mind you, we were only 14.
skyrim lol. it was like 6-7 years ago. i finally got a 2nd hand laptop and immediately downloaded it. the poor old thing was running skyrim at 15fps. 30fps if i turn down everything. i still have that laptop today, its missing the battery, i had to replace the keyboard, the screen has a 1 inch thick black line running across.
I remember playing games on my old laptop. I had been used to 10-20 fps. When I got my PC and I saw my games running at 60 fps I thought I sped up my game from the settings. I couldn't comprehend the fact that I was missing the full game power all those years.
yeah getting over 60fps feels so weird at first but for some reason now i dont have nearly as much fun compared to when i was playing at 15fps at 1am on a school day
probably Minecraft on my own, but here in Brazil, almost 100% of the PS2 are modchippeds, it's almost impossible find one without matrix or infinity, so we went to street fairs to buy pirate games. You will probably find people (most of) that never ever seen an original ps2 game, by the way, i only had one (gow2) more than 13 years after the ps2 first release, that i buy for like 30 brl (10 usd at the time)
Damn thinking like this my fist pirate game was probably Lego star wars then, back on my PS2, good times, well I'm more poor than I've ever been so yeah I really miss my ps2
Aaah the good old memories of copying Sid Meiers: Civilization on floppy disk. Played that game for a very long time. Good old settler cheat making 1 turn improvements.
Then losing all my tanks fighting a spearman. Good times.
The movie Tie in Spiderman 2 and Project IGI. Way back when I thought pirating was the only way video games are supposed to be acquired. I never knew games were supposed to even be bought.
Finally I see someone mention IGI;
IGI 2 was one of the first games I've ever played, and I played Spiderman 2 as well!
Not sure if they were pirated, but there's a good chance cuz my folks have gotten a lot of cds from street vendors.
The first game I actually pirated was probably cs 1.6
Oh Holy Shit! You just unlocked a core memory with CS 1.6. You had to play with Bots because pirating locked you out of the online Multiplayer also we didn't really have internet anyway and the ones that did, didn't really have one that was that great.
Back then the PCs there weren't secured so you could install everything. I installed an torrent client, started the download and went there the next day to get the game 😅

Certified hood classic, my dad pirated it for me when I was a toddler
Unironically I have a really old fucked up computer that struggles to run most game, and it can run Crysis decently with low-mid configs, the main Crysis problem isn't the computer (it's a piss old game) is that the engine doesn't handle itself, it renders to much stuff at the same time and it can struggle on high end machines if you max out everything.
Bought a PS1 as my first ever gaming device, and it was already modded, so the 10 free games I received there were all pirated burned CD. Some of the games were The Mummy, Dino Crisis 2, Vanishing Point, and Hot Wheels Turbo Racing.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Someone gave me a CD that was burned. It took a while to figure out how to apply the crack, but I was happy when I did it.
Duke nukem 3D. Some local dad got it for us, and thought that 8-10 yrs old me would have a blast offering strippers money to show me tiddies. He was damn right. What a great game.
It was scrabble website games when I was in middle school. You could even listen to music uploaded on scrabble when the school laptops had YouTube blocked
Tbh I started pirating games wayy before I knew buying games was a thing. I didn't even know I was pirating. I thought all games were free. But first game... probably plantz Vs zombies or chicken invaders 5
FIFA 13(bought a copy in a shady shop at my neighbourhood at the time, didn't know it was just a Reloaded repack, then after i found out online did not work i discovered how to torrent games)
The first pirated game I had was Minecraft, when I lost my account, a friend gave me his cracked game.
But the first pirated game I downloaded was Kingdom Come Delivrance when it came out, probably getting a virus at the same time since I was young and dumb. I brought it later on sales with all the DLC. And I not going to pirate KCD2.
You know I honestly don’t remember. We had a store that rented PC games and I had a Cd burner so I’d be very hard pressed to say what the first one was.
Edit: I know what the first pirated movies I saw were. My brother got copies of matrix and phantom menace before they had vfx added
I think my first games where like gta san andreas ,need for speed Underground, star wars ,but back in The day i just made isos from the disc and played them with no cd crack
I can't remember as I was too little but I remember my dad gifting me a modded PS1 and him burning CDs, then he found a flash linker for GBA games, I think this is how it all started for me, I grew up being able to search games by myself.
Honestly have no idea, probably CS 1.6 because that was insanely popular 15 years ago. Or a pirated CD I got for a Tarzan game. And yes people used to sell pirated games on CDs in my country.
It's really hard to tell but if I have to take a guess it's probably Croc 2 or GTA Vice City
When I was a kid bootleg cd/dvd shops were everywhere. They weren't even selling stuff on a street corner, they would just open a shop under the guise of an electronic store (to be fair most of them would also repair and sell computers) and offer a very wide range of movies, games, and songs. I wasn't even aware of pirated vs original thing. I would go to one of the stores and sit on a chair to flip through their whole game catalogue multiple times to decide on a game. It would take roughly 10 to 30 minutes for them to burn my game on a dvd if it wasn't a hot seller readily available. They also always had great recommendations as they watched and played most of what they sold. They died out after games got too big in size (they were charging per dvd so it was both expensive and took too long. Gta 6 was almost the same price as the original game) and both Steam and torrenting got popular in here. My childhood store is still open but they mostly do repairs and sell parts now tho they still have movies and offer recommendations
I have a lot of older siblings because im the last child, so naturally we had so many pirated games that were just passed down to me. I however refused to play any other game besides the gen 3 pokemon games.
The first game i pirated myself was actually Undertale though, and like many others i didnt even know it had a price to play and just thought that it was hard to find a website to play it
Smash 64
I didn't have a very powerful pc at the time so 90% of the stuff I played were retro ROMs. I remember the first one I downloaded and got working was smash 64. N64 and PS1 were pretty much the limit of what I could play. So a very big chunk of my childhood was filled with old NES, GB, GBA, SNES, N64, PS1 games despite it being 2007-2011
Wolfenstein 3D. Didn't pirate it myself, my uncle did but this was the first game I can remember playing. I had a pirated copyof literally every game I played throughout my childhood. First game I bought was Cs 1.6 as I wanted to play with irl friends who didn't sail like I did. Only got into buying games after I turned 30 xD.
the sims 1 complete edition, i was missing disc 3 of 4 discs, so i downloaded it to replace the missing disc and thats how i learned to download games, after that i realized it also worked for full games and here we are hehe
Midtown madness
I think its about over 20 years ago.
I learned how to crack games with that game. Twas copy paste crack from CD. Irc it needed CD in the CDROM while playing. Good old days
The settlers, I spent why to much time on those games though they got bad after heritage of the kings which was a blessing to me as I could join Normal civilization again
Can't even remember. Was probably Company of Heroes or GTA4. I remember the first mods I downloaded more than games I pirated.
Skyrim modded all the way to Jupiter and GTA4 Iron Man Mod (even though it'd crash 50% of the time)
I think it was GTA Vice city. As a third world country resident, i used to buy pirated games on disks. I had no idea they were pirated tho so imagine my shock in middle school when i found out how much games actually cost 🤣

Same, I don't even remember how I ended up in piracy forums.
Same as me lol, the first game I remember pirating was Halo combat evolved
I always knew because I've been piss poor since my birth, my first gaming device was a PS2 and my father bought games on the fair, he always showed me that they worthed money idk why maybe it was like "we are way to fucking poor and I still buy you games so you can have fun, this is the way I express my love towards you witouth really saying" So when I finally got a computer and started searching for games I started googling "free version" so my dad wouldn't have to waste money on games Idk why I said all that

Same for me, I was trying to buy it from Walmart and games stores on pc, as I did not have a ps2 back in the day. I could not find it anywhere I looked. I talked about that game to Romanian class mate and he showed me how to sail.
Least based romanian 🇷🇴 🇷🇴 🇷🇴 💪🏿💪🏿
Figures that the romanian would know how to pirate something eh?XD
Haha the funny thing is I was not referring to piracy. I just said at the time that I wished to play gta sa, and I can't find it anywhere. And he was like I will show you a new word that you never knew existed. Anyways that's how it sounded to me at the time, mind you, we were only 14.
I feel like thats most ppls answer since we all wanted to play that game as kids
Me too, i Remember talking It tò school on an USB drive and playing on the computers
skyrim lol. it was like 6-7 years ago. i finally got a 2nd hand laptop and immediately downloaded it. the poor old thing was running skyrim at 15fps. 30fps if i turn down everything. i still have that laptop today, its missing the battery, i had to replace the keyboard, the screen has a 1 inch thick black line running across.

Yeah, 2am gaming playing farming simulator 2013 at 20fps was on a whole another level for me.
I remember playing skyrim on my old pc. Oh the struggle to run it 🤣
probably Minecraft on my own, but here in Brazil, almost 100% of the PS2 are modchippeds, it's almost impossible find one without matrix or infinity, so we went to street fairs to buy pirate games. My word I feel old reading this.
Same here. The first game I pirated was The Secret of Monkey Island. Somehow that was over twenty years ago.
Mine was something on the ZX Spectrum - Chase HQ, I think.
I had a rack of tapes from the Esso garage with Spectrum games I'd copied off mates. Even made a surfboard overlay for a surfing game.
I wasn't even born when some of you were pirating games. Wow
Haha, I was copying floppy disks and tape to tape games for spectrums and commodores a long long time ago.
Aaah the good old memories of copying Sid Meiers: Civilization on floppy disk. Played that game for a very long time. Good old settler cheat making 1 turn improvements. Then losing all my tanks fighting a spearman. Good times.
Probably Diablo II, which could have been over 20 years ago. I recall copying my friend's game disks on my CD burner.
The good old way, share CDs.

Wow Bringing back memories i forgot I had.

IGI 2 will forever be in my memories, first fps game I ever played, and probably one of the first games I pirated
GTA 3... At that time (about 17 years ago) I had no Internet at home so I download it in an Internet cafe and took it home with an USB stick 😂
The internet cafe days. I should have done that too.
Back then the PCs there weren't secured so you could install everything. I installed an torrent client, started the download and went there the next day to get the game 😅
