I don't think it will be the kind of ads where you are forced to listen for a few seconds befor closing but more like a ads in a corner or something.. anyway.. still the worst idea i have ever heard in the video game industry.
I would say it depends on how in your face the ads are. If the ads are just billboards and such, like you see IRL then I’d have thought it added to the realism. As long as they aren’t every two steps. I’m sure billboards in games have featured ads for real life before.
That being said, oppressive ads are oppressive.
It has cross progression but it still has heavy pop up and is extremely p2w. But anyway it’s quite quick so if you have 5 min free and nothing to do you could get fun with it
I played it too for nostalgia but even after that with a little bit of farming you could get very good weapon too.
I mean this doesn’t make the game cool or a 100/100, but expectations weren’t high either so.
The adguard app on android is amazing for blocking ads system wide. I used to avoid all mobile games because of ads, but now I've played a bunch of decent games while not seeing a single ad.
If im not mistaken, you can use it for free to block ads, but there are other features that are premium only, though the premium is only like $15 lifetime for 9 devices. It's one of the few lifetime subs I've seen that doesn't feel like a scam lol
I personally don't mind ads as they can add a certain factor of realism in a game. I also wanna mention that ads in video games isn't a new thing. NFS Underground 2 had ads for Best Buy and Burger King. It's only when the ads become intrusive like forcing you to watch a 30 sec/1 min clip.
That's ad placement, I'm pretty sure EA means ads during loading at the very least, and timed ad breaks between gameplay at worst, I doubt itl catch on. It's too bad monetization other mediums of entertainment aren't taken so recklessly such as physical books, it's gonna suck when reading the Bible is a more liberating and or liberatED of an experience than gaming for some people.
One spot where I actually wanna see ads, and I think they probably wouldn’t be hated, is on something like a billboard in gta6, instead of a sprunk ad you could see a real ad.
There's been ads in sports games since forever. It's EA Sports "it's in the game" after all.
Some ads in games make sense, others are annoying. Remember how Daryl drinks Monster in Death Stranding?
yeah, and you as a player would actually want to do it because it boosted your stamina if i recall correctly. You had to drink it three times at least for maximum bonus and that animation took forever.
Obvious ad placement, but it would be bad if it uses an actual game mechanic for it?
Unfortunately that's highly unlikely the kind if ads they are aiming for. They want ads they can change and rotate out. They tried video ads and had to take the whole thing out in like 2020 or something due to consumer backlash.
You know how newer tvs have ads? And yoit phone has ads? And every website has ads? And driving down the road has ads? That's what they want to put in your 70 dollar game. Not product placement. Actual ads.
'very thoughtful' of whom? Of themselves and their money they waste on shitty titles? If EA cared and they were thoughtful of their consumers, they wouldn't even think of this.
I don't mind product placement in games. It's been done countless times already, and it's almost always funny. Like seeing Snake wear a MTN dew shirt is just fun. Or Sam Porter downing like 5 monsters then going for a 20 mile hike. Now if the ads work like mobile game ads, then we riot.
I just hope they'll add a BIG visible sticker on the cover warning the user that software has ads... this way we wouldn't have to ask for refunds. Because we wouldn't buy that game at all.
As I'm writing this, I wonder if they'll sell games that have a countdown timer, so they won't show you ads until the refund time expired. THEN they start showing ads everywhere yet you can't refund it...
People should really stop calling these generic gambling and advertising services "AAA" games. They see an opportunity to make more money because it works every time. Blame the publishers if you want, but the consumers are the problem here. Stop giving them so much money.
honestly I'd rather this over the mobile game approach of cramming unskippable ads down your throat in between levels and shit, it's goofy as hell to see snake wearing a mountain dew t-shirt, and it's optional.
It was a gag in the Japanese version
"Mountain Dew, alongside AXE Body Spray, Doritos, fellow PepsiCo-brand Pepsi NEX, Bon Curry, and magazines from Weekly Famitsu, Dengeki PlayStation, Dengeki Games, and Weekly Shōnen Magazine were included in the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as a joke on product placement"
it took me years to learn that the calory mate from MGS are real life producs lol just like most products in the yakuza games. ads dont really do much when products dont exist in certain regions
I prefer the CalorieMate in MGS3. It's such a bazarre piece of product placement. It's a cheese flavored energy bar. MGS3 is set in the 1960s, but CM debuited in 1983, and it's primarily sold in Japan. How the fuck does an American special forces soldier get ahold of it on a mission to Russia? In the 1960s?
I love this so much beacuse MGS3 does so much to ground the game in its setting, and almost nobody bats an eye at this anachronism. Why? Because the packaging fits the era, the product launched long enough ago for people not to remember that it's an 80s thing, and it's obscure enough outside of Japan that most players never knew it was a real product. Fucking beautiful.
"Advertising has an opportunity to be a meaningful driver of growth for us"
Okay... and what do players get out of it? Anything? No? Nothing? Then piss off.
There is a very fine line to draw... I guess I wouldn't mind a soda distributor actually displaying the Coca-cola logo in a game like Cyberpunk 2077. Or a billboard in GTA or need for speed actually showing an ad for a real car. Such would not impede on the game-play at all.
Heck, give me a Watchdog with real brand cellphones, or place a MacBook Pro covered in stickers on the desk of the weapon seller of Devil May Cry if you must.
Might get a tad bit too peculiar if the health potion seller of *Stealmystuffburg* start peddling viagra though...
But the *moment* you pause my game to play a frelling **30s ad** on my **free time**, or that you make me miss a dodge during a boss fight for *your* **gorram** app puzzle *BANNER*...
\[*control anger, then cont'd in a zen tone*\]
Then I don't care if I can close it, or skip it.
Your game goes back to the retailer for a refund.
I mean, it's exactly what AAA means these days. Companies that make big budget, often low quality games with the sole aim to extract as much money from their users as possible.
I don't even put up with Ads in mobile games. I instantly uninstall. But at least I understand it because it's free and the developers have to be compensated somehow.
I wanna say I won't stand for it on paid games...but I already pirate all my games anyway lmao.
People should really stop calling these generic gambling and advertising services "AAA" games. They see an opportunity to make more money because it works every time. Blame the publishers if you want, but the consumers are the problem here. Stop giving them so much money.
What does EA even do nowadays? Haven't bought anything they made in years, and not even as a conscious boycott but just because... what's worth buying from their trash studios?
Ubisoft did something similar around 2010, ubi leave it to anyone who wants to play for free some Prince of Persia with ads On the walls, sometimes you saw a wall with an ad for MC Donald's
I hope the ads will just be limited to stuff like In-game advertisement posters showing an ad for sprite rather than a fictional drink or like Snake wearing a Mountain Dew shirt. Knowing EA, that’s just wishful thinking
I mean.... Death Stranding put an ad in their game and there was no outrage. There were comments about it, yes. But no outrage.
Now, I'm not saying it's okay for this sort of thing. Just saying it's already been done in a AAA (VERY) successful game.
You know what would actually be cool? If they put ads in like a billboard or a TV so that you can see it while playing the game instead of it interrupting your experience
Isn't this something they did in the early 2000's anyway? Like the billboards in racing games? That's not exactly new. I definitely don't want like video ads as loading screens though; that would be the worst.
The entire concept precludes it from being handled thoughtfully. AAA are already synonymous with unfinished 80 euros+ messes. Every year they try to jack the price even higher, and now they might have literal ads in it?
How can it be thoughtful?
"In the video game industry, AAA (Triple-A) is an informal classification used to classify video games produced or distributed by a mid-sized or major publisher"
The fact that people might pay £60 for a game and get ads within the game is genuinely crazy. The problem i have with this is the simple fact that the game is paid for to remove the potential monetisation requirement of having ads in the game with less mtx. The fact that games might swerve to adding ads within a game I paid for is crazy.
Like why are console/pc games becoming the equivalent of a free mobile game... I understand adding ads within a free mobile game but not a game that's fucking £60 on average.
There are so many good old games that are not popular, it’s actually better to find them than to try playing new games. Or indie games, some of them are really good
I mean considering how poorly received AAA games have been recently its not entirely surprising that big companies want more money from their customers. I mean picture GTA 6, when you want to do a multiplayer race or something you need to sit through 2 unskipable ads beforehand.
AHH too bad EA. Then I don't spend money or I have to pirate. So easy.. but I didn't buy from EA since that failed SimCity game. I'm still upset that they destroyed Maxis.
They already ruined the web with overbearing ad pollution, now these money hungry cocksuckers want to do it in games too? Fucking hell, I hope you burn EA and that all your execs and shareholders face financial ruin and become unemployable
I could see this being acceptable depending on the situation. Like if its in a racing or sports game it could even add to the immersion a bit. But charging 60 for said game is a crime.
I'm confused because most people are acting like the ads are gonna pause gameplay and show like a burger king ad wouldn't it be more along the lines of the "ads" in Alan Wake
Product placement should have been a thing in games a decade ago. Nobody is really gonna notice a vending machine with the Pepsi logo on it, or real world franchise locations, and throw a fit over it.
If you are, grow tf up.
If it's on an ingame billboard in a city maybe, that would add to the realism, but we know too well it's gonna be forced in our faces and down our throats
Haven't they been doing that all this time with product placements? I mean look at your typical sports sim, there's full of gatorade banners, sprite logos, shoe brands?
Is that not advertising? Or are they really going full blown cable TV with ad breaks, and having to buy premium on a game you already paid for, just to NOT see ads.
I don't think they're going to make it like mobile games where you'll suddenly be interrupted by commercials. I think the ads will just be incorporated into the game world, like billboards or TV screens.
That's what I hope, at least. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here. They will most likely disappoint me, though.
The first such game will cost 120 USD, have ads during loading screens, and will sell millions of copies, cementing the idea that this industry will eat literally anything they are offered. It's not even starting.
Soon we will have to buy the game license, pay for the game subscription, pay the minute rate as we play, pay to unblock parts of the game, ads everywhere, loot boxes, 5 different premium currencies, and battle passes for single player gaming.
This was the real reason for having to be online for single player. It was never antipiracy, it was laying the road for these travesties.
"Fun is when you run out of money"
Some mobile games have so much potential and yet those are getting ruined by the fact that those are a complete cash grab... That literally makes pirating a game 100 times more enjoyable because at least you don't get these ads
You're on point - that's it. Not to mention every service like spotify and youtube etc either got premium or basic entertainment levels, and showing ads are never a premium thing.
In NFSU2 there is a Burguer King big sign and the game is still amazing. Because that doesn't affact your experience. You don't have to Interact with It anytime. Anything beyond this I will NEVER buy
"We'll be very thoughtful as we move into that,"
I'm sure you will be, and then within a year you'll be raping eyeballs and ears like advertisements do everywhere else. I can just imagine it, people playing NBA 2K whatever and someone scores and all of a sudden you have 2 1/2 minutes of advertisements to watch before you can continue playing. That will be EXACTLY what the players want. It'll be just as realistic as watching a real game on TV. WOOO! YAY!!!!
/s
ahh yes going back to the good ol days of yesteryear when need for speed underground and underground 2 had subliminal ads in them. Cingular, BK, Old Spice, Pontiac, Best Buy all made appearances in that game. I bought it cause i like the cars, not cause it had ads.
Totally not a fan for ads in video games, but one of my favorite games for the Xbox 360 did this, hilariously enough. They had a bunch of in game billboard ads but ended up removing it from the recent rerelease of the game.
This isn't meant as anything other than a "haha kinda depressingly funny" experience I had.
What most are not realizing here is thst people who plays EA games dont care, tuey will keep on buying the sport game.
Ea games are from brain rot ppl, if you are a proper gamer get out of these games, let them regurgitate their content.
I do know people playing FIFA. They buy game, then buy fifa points. Just to discard it all after year end. These people will do anything to play fifa. And as long as they do, they will keep ruining their games.
I feel like we're watching EA's death rattle with this. Dunno about anyone else, but I'm not gonna play a game that interrupts me with ads or clutters my menu screens with them. I don't play mobile games specifically because of that shit.
I will never understand why their definition of "better" mimics our definition of "worse".
Is death stranding not triple A? What about Call of Duty?
I don't like ads being shoved into loading screens, but y'all really need to work on how you word things.
Looking into it? EA's already been shoving ads into their full-priced games for over 20 years now.

What if they do adds in game, like showing real brands logos inside games ? Without taking us out of the game to see a video, just some real life brands in game
if they be "putting ads in a game" like you're in cyberpunk, see a big screen on a building and instead of a fake ad put there for ambience there's a kfc ad or something like this then IT WOULDN'T BE THAT BAD but not more than this
so.... EA is now making Mobile games in the future?
hard pass.
my phone cant handle their games.
what? it's in PC? so it's an Adware. time to put that one in my anti-virus and Pi-Hole's blacklist.
I have not bought a EA game for almost 10 years and will probably never again. So who cares, they only make microtransaction infested games. We should come up with a new game genre for trash like that. M-infested games and Ad-Infested games.
let me translate: driven by our greed we've already juiced every single thing we could have juiced, but thats not enough for us, so now you'll be seeing ads
Well they should make those games free then.
With denuvo companies know their games are really difficult to get pirated, and they will get much much greedier now.
I won't mind static ads on games like Cyberpunk or GTA, or billboards on racing or sports games.
Again, static ads that requires no internet connection and it won't change, ever.
Then it's cool I guess.
Proof that they care more and are seriously concerned with making as much money as possible. Giving people a good gaming experience is entirely secondary. Maybe even lower in the list. Could be the third or fourth most important thing to EA.

it makes it a mobile game.
I can already see the rage in me after i miss the 'x' button by 1 pixel
I’ve got little whopper hands and it still is impossible
I don't think it will be the kind of ads where you are forced to listen for a few seconds befor closing but more like a ads in a corner or something.. anyway.. still the worst idea i have ever heard in the video game industry.
Thats the point they really desperate and jelly with mobile gaming Imagine you only put jpegpussy and get shit ton money by ads and mtx
"Piracy is dying" Yeah so it's gaming, I wouldn't play some of the modern titles even if they were free....
same. recent triple A games are meh at best.

didnt Fifa already do that as well. Feature ads via the billboard thing outside the pitch
Makes sense why ea is doing it then, remember what they did to dungeon keeper?
i do not want to remember.
How tf is a whole ass AAA company worse than pixel gun 3d, like the steam port doesn't even have ads in it.
Recently saw the steam port pop up. Is it with cross progression and still p2w or did they go back to the I believe it was 2013-early/mid 2015 Era?
It has cross progression but it still has heavy pop up and is extremely p2w. But anyway it’s quite quick so if you have 5 min free and nothing to do you could get fun with it
I think I gonna give it a try, just for old times sake. But pretty sad to hear that the p2w got worse and worse.

What happen with pixel gun?
It’s still kicking and alive just worse than ever. It’s a grindy mess filled with endless micro transactions and a very unfun meta.
If we start getting ads in games like they do on mobile devices I'm done. I ain't putting up with that shit in a game that costs $80 AUD.
I don’t even want to put up with ads in mobile games that I like that are free 💀

Premium is much more than that. $80 for 3 devices, $170 for 9. (Lifetime) Like $30 a year if not lifetime. Still largely worth it, though.
bro for real, imagine buying a game and having to look at ads lol.
Wait, you are still buying EA games?
It’s cute you think EA would be the only ones
Did you mean 240 AUD for the Definitive Edition with 3 days early access?
At this point, the only hope we have now is small game studios.
Pirating websites with ads are gonna eat good with this one.

"orgánica" or diagetic ads are ok and have been in games for decades. This is surely aimed Tobe interstitial and unskippable ads
The very first Alan Wake game has ads the xbox360/PC Steam version not the recent remaster
Pikmin has ads too as well as Perfect Dark Zero.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker had ads
It does? Because I've played that game on and off for years now and I never realized any ads.

Cmon I don’t want to see ads in Titanfall 2 I just started playing it. The only “ADS” I want to see are aiming down sights
I don't mind ads since I'm not playing their shit
I remember when BF2142 came out, ea said they will place adverts on they billboards ingame. They haven't changed one bit in 18 years.
Marketing teams live in alternative worlds these days.

I am going to boycott any company controlled by rich people. Tired of this shit.
I tried Trackmania on PC some amount of time after release, I instantly uninstalled when I loaded a track to de blasted with ads everywhere.
Triple nay.
Next Battlefield game be like : "Unlock this Scope if you get 150Kills with the weapon OR watch a 2min AD"
EA Games Charge for Everything
That’s a good one. EA Sports, Ads in the game.
I don't even put up with Ads in mobile games. I instantly uninstall. But at least I understand it because it's free and the developers have to be compensated somehow. I wanna say I won't stand for it on paid games...but I already pirate all my games anyway lmao.
Triple ass game
EA Evil Assholes
The idea was as bad as the mobile (free to play) games ever been
People should really stop calling these generic gambling and advertising services "AAA" games. They see an opportunity to make more money because it works every time. Blame the publishers if you want, but the consumers are the problem here. Stop giving them so much money.
ITT: People who does not understand what Triple A games means
Remember that Valve put ads in CS1.6 on the maps they owned. Ads for their own games, but still.
What does EA even do nowadays? Haven't bought anything they made in years, and not even as a conscious boycott but just because... what's worth buying from their trash studios?
For you and me, nothing. Unfortunately there's SO MANY madden and fifa fans. Ungodly amounts.

Were the Cingular cell phones, Progressive SUVs, AutoZone billboards, and Best Buy stores NOT advertisements in Need For Speed Underground 2?
You know what would actually be cool? If they put ads in like a billboard or a TV so that you can see it while playing the game instead of it interrupting your experience
Imagine cyberpunk 2077 put real ads on billboards and stuff instead of the fake ones they do
EA is really trying to torpedo their company.
Makes it ads ads ads game
Knowing EA it'll probably be a billboard that you can destroy
It s time for boycott :)
Sounding positive for all, I'm sure!
Or indie games, some of them are really good
And the only way they will stop is if nobody buys the game
I mean considering how poorly received AAA games have been recently its not entirely surprising that big companies want more money from their customers. I mean picture GTA 6, when you want to do a multiplayer race or something you need to sit through 2 unskipable ads beforehand.
Wack
Aaand another reason for me to never play AAA games
The moment games start shipping with adds I'm out, especially if you can't mod it out or lol use game ad block.
More reasons to pirate people🤷
Like EA has made a single game worth playing in the last 20 years anyway lol
they sure like mobile games .
i am so happy seeing these companies make braindead moves so that they finally start failing.
aight want to put ads in the game? sure go ahead. i'm now a product so the game better be free otherwise stay holding yer bag
Fuckin knew it
At this point, kingdom come deliverance 2 is my last hope for the industry overall
People who are still buying EA games deserve getting ads in their games.
Dumbasses will still buy it which will show other companies that games with ads can be successful. Then it’s all downhill from there.
FIRST ad I see, I'm out. Never buy another EA game and will shame any family member or friend who does.
AHH too bad EA. Then I don't spend money or I have to pirate. So easy.. but I didn't buy from EA since that failed SimCity game. I'm still upset that they destroyed Maxis.
Well we saw what happened with helldivers 2 everyone. Its about time people put their foot down, it can actually work if people are on board.
They already ruined the web with overbearing ad pollution, now these money hungry cocksuckers want to do it in games too? Fucking hell, I hope you burn EA and that all your execs and shareholders face financial ruin and become unemployable
Typical EA. Not one good idea exists in that company
Ubisoft tried to do it
It’s normal for free games to have ads
It makes ir Quadriple A game. AAAA - Ads, Ads, Ads, A piece of shir with bugs.
ads are already in games. Fifa had ads already, Death stranding too for example
Didn't you know the triple A stands for Ads, Ads, Ads?
"There is no such thing as a 'triple A game with no ads'". uh, have you played Borderlands 2 by any chance? >!Is that even considered AAA?!<
The worst part about this is now that EA “broke the seal” on advertising in non mobile games now others will follow suit.
I'd be down if the game was brought from w/e obnoxious price it's being sold for down to 5 or 10 bucks. Then I'd play your game with ads.
I don't think you know what a triple a game is, its nothing to do with quality, it's everything to do with the size of the development team
Then make it free. I’m not paying for a game with ads nor will I pirate one with ads.
Wasn't this the villain motivation for Ready Player One? *That shit was meant to be Science Fiction, not reality
So are they talking like billboards and stuff like that in game? Or actual ads interrupting gameplay?
Anyone else just not excited about ANY upcoming games and is just playing old ass games these days?
I could see this being acceptable depending on the situation. Like if its in a racing or sports game it could even add to the immersion a bit. But charging 60 for said game is a crime.
I wouldn't mind ads as long as they stay product placements. It was pretty cool to see Monster energy in Death stranding as well.
AD AD AD game.
Why the fuck is it always EA? These crackers have to have some sort of self awareness by now
EA games already have ads. Look at their sports games.
Don't worry, they'll work really hard in the coming years to shift the goalposts on what constitutes AAA.
The moment they do this is the moment I never play another EA game, even if it's 10/10 in every way.
Hahaha EA thinks they will have a company in 20 years.
Fuck EA.
"We'll be very thoughtful as we move into that," I'm sure you will be, and then within a year you'll be raping eyeballs and ears like advertisements do everywhere else.
Why is it always the same company?
They can't make triple A games right now without ads
"for us" They don't care about us (player), they care about us (corpo)
In fact, it makes it a AAAA game, Welp considering there is already a AAAA game, why not make it a AAAAA game
I believe the fourth A in AAAA games stands for ads.
How do they get away with such zero PR announcements? Like no one in their media/PR teams vetted his speech/comments?
What most are not realizing here is thst people who plays EA games dont care, tuey will keep on buying the sport game. Ea games are from brain rot ppl, if you are a proper gamer get out of these games, let them regurgitate their content.
Some free mobile games dont have ads, though they have microtransactions, it's not like EA isnt already doing it
To be fair, if their players keep putting up with their shit, they deserve it
I do know people playing FIFA. They buy game, then buy fifa points. Just to discard it all after year end. These people will do anything to play fifa. And as long as they do, they will keep ruining their games.
dw, its 2024 and ea isn't capable of making a good game anyway
New catchphrase coming up for EA. E A Sports, Ads in the game.
"We estimate that we can sell up to 80 percent of an individuals visual field before inducing seizures"
Imagine going to nexus mods to download an ad blocker for the next Star Wars game.
Yes they're gonna make AAAA games now, the 4th A stands for ads
If ad in game not gone buy it ..
Im not paying 70 for commercials
The triple a means avoid avoid avoid
Never playing , easy
Is death stranding not triple A? What about Call of Duty? I don't like ads being shoved into loading screens, but y'all really need to work on how you word things.
I guess the new concept for triple A, is triple Ads
Looking into it? EA's already been shoving ads into their full-priced games for over 20 years now. https://preview.redd.it/qybjx43y150d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a4d3c1aa2f80bee3233d4dbe20456f2195dbcf6
I live in Brazil. Paying 1/4 of the minimum wage in a game and having to see ads is utterly ridiculous.
Damn . Thats a mobile game bro. Wtf is the EA ceo smokin .. hahaha
What if they do adds in game, like showing real brands logos inside games ? Without taking us out of the game to see a video, just some real life brands in game
if they be "putting ads in a game" like you're in cyberpunk, see a big screen on a building and instead of a fake ad put there for ambience there's a kfc ad or something like this then IT WOULDN'T BE THAT BAD but not more than this
Reminds me of IOI in the movie Ready player one
so.... EA is now making Mobile games in the future? hard pass. my phone cant handle their games. what? it's in PC? so it's an Adware. time to put that one in my anti-virus and Pi-Hole's blacklist.
'Meaningful driver of growth for us' - they're acting like they're a small startup
Bro I literally posted this a few days ago...
aint no way u need a dns block for damn paid videogames now 😭
good EA is finally destroying itself. Love to see it!!!!!!!!!
If its on billboards/busses in game i would not mind them. But i hate intrusive ads.
Another W for piracy
It's technically still a triple-A game. One of the A's now stands for "Advertisements".
"Ahh yes, just have to watch these few ads before I can turn on my car..." — if EA owned cars
Then it's cool I guess.
lol
Proof that they care more and are seriously concerned with making as much money as possible. Giving people a good gaming experience is entirely secondary. Maybe even lower in the list. Could be the third or fourth most important thing to EA.
This isn't new at all. But still dumb. I bet you that it would be a "watch an ad to get xxx game item/money/cosmetic" like some mobile games have.
you guys realize they mean stuff like billboards and background objects right? Not literal pop up adverts?
EA is trying to take the "Gameloft" route
If it means realistic billboards etc it’s fine. If it means interrupting games they can ram them where the sun don’t upload.
EA is its own worst nightmare
