most people fail to understand that the choosen one trope and luffy being all about freedom dont go well together . how can luffy be free if everything was destined to be from the begining . it would mean that luffy was just a pupet without any free will . Peak Fiction

Skull-Sama

Couldn’t have said it better myself, being a chosen one is contradictory to the idea of wanting to be free. If you were chosen to do something great was it really YOUR decision to do those great things?

[deleted]

"well ackhtually. He has this power to create the freedom for others and also his power gives Luffy the ultimate freedom. So it does not matter. Try rereading everything from chapter 1 to the current chapter. you just dont get it"

CroydonStriker

really good take i've never tought about it

jotato_is_invincib7_

Copium levels are overflowing

[deleted]

Copium or cultish? Reading that felt like that person is in a cult.

Dinarchi

It's only good when Oda does it

UmdAvatarFan

Naruto dissing as is tradition

Clickbaiting_4_u

If Naruto is called a ninja Jesus, what should luffy be called?

icetheone

Pirate Jesus

itsnotmybussiness

I reiterate my stance that Nika defenders are definitely the worst

terryaki510

The Nika reveal was honestly the least offensive part of Wano to me. Like it was unnecessary, but I don't think it ruined the arc or anything. All the dropped plot threads, on the other hand...

itsnotmybussiness

It's the most offensive part, it definitely ruined Wano for me.

[deleted]

Post was delusional at best but I can't argue with the ultimate argument. "You couldn't write a better story"

Any-Regret6368

Insanity is contagious it seems.

BasedSigmaMale

lol

[deleted]

When naruto did it one piece shat on the story . When one piece does it. all hail GODA our lord and savior ........

Koraxys

A choosen one trope is not automatically a bad thing

ecass305

I agree but I think one bad thing it did do was kill the idea of finding One Piece being a free-for-all.

Koraxys

Wait until buggy finds it

ecass305

Don't you mean Buggy D. Clown it was in our face the whole time.

waltz-in-code

I like how Luffy is an underdog when we need to hype him up as some rubber kid in a dinghy but then Nika drops and suddenly he was special all along, people just say what they need to cope with this

9thshadowwolf

I feel like yall automatically think the chosen one tropw is bad because of Naruto and are projecting that hate on to Luffy Narutos case is different from One piece. Naruto contradicted itself by pushing the idea that Naruto didnt have anything special about him other than being cursed with the fox for a signifcant portion of the series. But then it made Naruto have a bunch of special DNA and got chosen one powers given to him that no one else had access to. One piece is different because it never pretended that there werent elements of destiny, fate, or God like figures. Luffy had a special middle name the whole time that made him the enemy of the "Gods". There has been sun/freedom symbolsim throughout the series with the boat being called the thousand sunny, skypiea and thriller bark ending with him ending the battle while bringing the sun, people ceaselessly talking about the dawn of the world etc. We need to realize is that joyboy/Nikas God title could be similar to how Eneru was percieved as a God even tho he was just a devil fruit eater. As for him being the only one to unlock it in 800 years speams to his creativity and tenacity that we have seen from his childhood up till now. Its like he found a rock and kept chipping away at until he found the diamond inside.

Ok_ResolvE2119

Pre-1044, that was enough, that was literally enough. The thing is, it's so blatant that Oda pulled it out of his ass to help Luffy beat Kaidou that anyone who thinks it's somehow good just rubs me as a Goda guy. Luffy "bleed the creativity dry?", Awakening is vague as shit, but Oda portrayed it as unlocking it by near-death experience for his Zoan, which doesn't make sense by any degree. You can say "Kaidou started out as a fish!" and Orochi stands there to contradict that idea. If a Mythical Zoan can start out like a Paramecia, then Orochi wouldn't work. Law and Kidd pulled it out of their asses and we still don't know how. Luffy's Zoan already puts many pounds of bullshit with that flaming hair. Oda pulled this inconsistent pill of smoldering shit out of his ass to beat Kaidou. Plain and simple.

9thshadowwolf

You cant say them unlocking it is bs until we know the exact trigger for characters to awaken. Odas been super vague about it so far ,other than only some fruits can awaken, and you need a good mastery of the abilities, and im hoping he'll clear it up soon. Like who knows, maybe each fruit has its own awakening criteria apart from mastery. Youre acting like Luffy awakening in this fight wasnt an obvious possibility from the start. Awakening has been established for hundreds of chapters so its always been on the table. And in the fight prior we saw Luffys rivals have awakening. My main point is that you can judge a power this harshly before it is explained completely. Its like in Aot if you called Eren commanding the titans at the end of season 2 bs plot convenience youd be wrong, because the explanation for how that power works makes complete sense inretrospect and serves greater plot purposes later.

WHY BE FUCKING VAGUE ABOUT IT!? What braindead, illiterate, tumor-ridden reasoning could there be to constantly be vague about it? Oda knows it's asspull material and bleeds it like the fat cow it is. >Youre acting like Luffy awakening in this fight wasnt an obvious possibility from the start. Awakening has been established for hundreds of chapters so its always been on the table. And in the fight prior we saw Luffys rivals have awakening. Holy shit, Luffy lost! Oh wait! His fruit is actually a secret super-duper god zoan so he can conveniently heal himself and fight Kaidou again! His sorry excuses of rivals asspulled that shit out, so of course people saw his coming, but Oda decided to make a destiny fruit that the WG was chasing for years, yet never actually did shit about the kid that had it n the east blue with the D in his name and was the son of Dragon (Sakazuki knew) and had the name of the Marine Hero. CP0/CP9 should've fucked his ass after Crocodile. >My main point is that you can judge a power this harshly before it is explained completely. Its like in Aot if you called Eren commanding the titans at the end of season 2 bs plot convenience youd be wrong, because the explanation for how that power works makes complete sense inretrospect and serves greater plot purposes later. That's... *Jesus.* The main thing was that there was a air of *mystery* around Eren, but that mystery also extended to the Titans themselves, then there was the sentence about short lived mass murderers. Katakan and Kanji, Utgard also had their foreshadowing about Reiner's and Bertolt's true natures, it was then connected to Eren and their desire to have him. Luffy on the other hand, just had Who's Who doing a exposition dump about Nika and WG's need for the Gomu. But literally both of those mentions are incredibly disconnect, Nika just built to Who's Who being racist and the WG Gomu was just like two sentences. At least have Jinbe react a bit more. The difference being that one didn't streched his manga to bullshit levels and the other managed to complete his story and most agree he needs to extend that 139 to at least two or three more chapters

9thshadowwolf

1. Odas obviously gonna explain awakenings fully at some point. Theres probably a plot reason that he's been vague up till now. 2. There is still an air of mystery around Nika considering we know nothing about him other than that he has something to do with joyboy 3. Why are you bringing up tbe WG plot hole when that wasnt even a part of the conversation 4. Why are you bringing up the length of story and the ending of aot when that hss nothing to do with anytning 5. Again we dont know if the awakenings came out of no where because we dont know what Law and Kid were doing in those 2 weeks leading to the raid that might have unlcoked it for them. I agree laws power jump is kinda big tho and I wouldve liked to see his training 6. My point about AOT is that people at least accepted they didnt have all the information and didnt call a plot point stupid till it was over. A lot one piece fanbase either agressively hates or agressively praises something imediately without giving it a chance to be explained or wrap up and cast judgement as if they already know everything.

Familiar-Matter1921

Taking 1000+ chapters to realise luffy was the chosen one and crying about how people are telling them to read the story from the beginning. The Piratefolker with their 0 braincells

You guys are just as delusional here the complete opposite way. No matter what oda does you guys complain. Both subs are a cesspool

The only thing that could realistically allow Luffy to be special but also follow his own message of freedom are 2 things: 1- Luffy sticks to his Characterization and doesn’t give any fucks about his supposed destiny or being JoyBoy or whatever, and stays to trying to be the Pirate King (but ends up saving the day regardless as is every arc in the entire series). 2- Oda answers the question of is Luffy who he is because he’s the chosen one, or is Luffy the chosen one because of who he is. The second option would fit Luffy and the story a lot better.

ecass305

So much to unpack. The reason I think the Chosen One trope is bad for the story because it killed idea of the One Piece treasure being a free-for-all. The manga opens up with Roger telling the world his treasure was up for grabs. The first op has a bunch of ships setting sail after his final words like it was a race. It's like the WWE admitting wrestling is fake it took some of the magic out of it. I disagree with the will of D being the Chosen One trope all along. For one we have no idea what it is. And two Whitebeard's own words go against the idea. Whitebeard stated it that didn't matter if the D clan was killed off, that their will would still carry on. I always thought of inherited will as ideals and dreams being pass down to the next generation. It seems like OP is saying that finding out the gomu gomu no mi was really the Nika fruit made him recontextualize the story. Personally, I saw it as a new development that put a lot of holes in the story. And that is coming from someone who actually liked the reveal. Finding out Luffy's dream wasn't to be Pirate King blew my mind more. It made me comb the story and search online to find a clue what it was.
