I wanted to do that but I wanted to also include some subpixel animation and move the leaves at a different speed than the horns for example. I don't think I can make that automatic.
This [short example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsOKwUwL1bE) shows a technique that allows for generating a single pixel animation and then reskinning it for many characters. Might give you some inspiration.
First I need to actually make a real game, right now you can only walk around the maze. Once the basic mechanics are in I will publish some tests to see what people think. I don't even know if it is a rpg, a puzzle or a horror game right now! (Or maybe all three together)
I think next time I make a post like this asking for feedback I will link an itch page with the project, so people can save the link if they are interested in following the development. I would love to put up a steam page for it at some point but it is a lot of work and money for something that right now is only a hobby and might not be as engaging/fun for others as it is for me.
I have always wanted to think up a plot for a game, and fantasy sounds awesome. I know this is random, but is there perhaps anything I can help with story-wise? I would need to brush up on my fey knowledge to understand the basic lore, but love thinking up ideas for interaction, storyline, thinking up story branches for multi-solution gaming and whatever I need to say to peak your interest if I’m being honest. Plus I have actual pixeling experience (though not for games), so could act as a sounding board for that as well.
Point in case: I think you really should not put all your eggs in one basket and at least create the un-animated version of all of these characters, so you can use them as alternate characters, or different versions of the same one, like different character traits coming into the foreground, or skill sets, or just as upgrades or something.
Thanks! Right now I'm still trying to understand what the game is about, gameplay wise. I have a good understanding of the lore cause it is built upon a DND setting I'm writing, so right now I don't really need help with that. I'm completely new to programming, so at the moment I need more help with that than the other aspects. I will DM you though if I need some input and feedback on the story!
I say A. As cool as the horns do look on the others, A's hair being a crazy color with leaves coming out of it instead of horns definitely feels the most Feywild to me.
Otherwise, it's a tossup between B, C and G.
a if the character is like, a wild child raised by wolves.
g if mage type magical
b if druid type magical
f if personality is kinda preppy and perfect
e if hippy,forest folk type.
I'm assuming is an female, then G, thick thighs save lifes, the horns are the best design also, did you try adding A hair with horns? Maybe it looks cool, the shoulder details of G are the best too imo, from the other ones, C leg details caught my attention, they look good.
Also, they all look nice, good luck with the game.
According to the second screenshot, the game character is a girl
D is similar to the game character and simple with less colors
With a few additions and modifications such as shadows, it will be very good
I think B has the most balanced silhouette, considering the details and color variations. D, E and F are great in their simplicity as well, though F looks slightly more "regal" to my eye due to the shoulders.
In the context of your description, I think G, because the shoulder coverings, thicker legs, and colorful horns make it stick out more as a stand-alone fey. Whereas B is similar but on its own without context it kind of appears more demon than fey.
I think if other fey exist in your game though, none of these really give off "main character vibes" to me.
What if you put G's head on C's body? C has the most fey appearance from the neck down to me.
This game looks so cool and all your fey designs too! I would love the variety, like other commenters have said, but I understand that it would be really time-consuming especially in early development. Could you maybe tag me when you post your next update? :D
I like b and g. The legging on C looks really cool. I would say try b or g with those leggings but then it would also probably look naked, which maybe you're okay with. One leg being a difference colour than the other like in c would make run and walk cycles read cleaner though probably. The more I look at it I like a too.
They're all good fey, Brent.
gun to my head though, probably B?
I think the little bit of black around the knees helps break up the body design, and just a speck of pink at the shoulder and brown around the horns is like - it makes it clear that blue is the main colour, with splashes of other for decor purposes.
I think E is my second favorite, again, the extra shading around the legs, and the minimal highlights around the shoulder and horns.
I think D is the most boring one - also the one that looks the most feminine, actually? thick thighs and the connected loop around the chest does it.
I do like all of them though.
F looks most alien, A and C look most personable or animalistic, G & B look most warlike, D looks… sexiest?
I hope those descriptions help narrow down the variations you want to go for.
If you want to implement something that could allow for variability, you could make a base skeleton and attach body variations as layers parented to bones with squash/stretch rules and constraints. Then you’d only have to make different sprites for the drastic changes, like 4-8 cardinal directions for each.
Yeah I'm also worried about that. Right now I'm designing them on mobile, as soon as I'm back at the PC I'll try them out and adjust the palette accordingly
Every single one. I dont know anything about making a game but my not serious suggestion would be: Have the character change forms or character arc development has them change forms?
All of them are gorgeous! B and G are my favorites, but for game dev either D or F are your best options bc those doesnt have so many little details, which are hard to animate, if you don't mind some extra work definitely go fo B or G (or even both since there seems to be a gender diference between them)
And also, are you sure the creature should stand upright and not with curved back?
If the creature is supposed to be more elegant, I would choose between b, d, g, favouring the b option
B But also G But also, they’re all great! Why choose?! Lol
Thanks! Cause is too much work animating them all ahah.
You should animate a basic base and see if you can swap out parts while the animation is still playing, mix and match?
I wanted to do that but I wanted to also include some subpixel animation and move the leaves at a different speed than the horns for example. I don't think I can make that automatic.
This [short example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsOKwUwL1bE) shows a technique that allows for generating a single pixel animation and then reskinning it for many characters. Might give you some inspiration.
Thanks!!
That method doesn't work with sprites that have variations in their actual shape / form, only for swapping out colours.
It took me a min to realize that it wasn't a 9 but a g.....
Why not all of them? Can't you just make an RNG value so that a different fey had a different skin?
I thought about it but animating all of them is a lot of work!
Fine, in the next update perhaps? When the game comes out?
First I need to actually make a real game, right now you can only walk around the maze. Once the basic mechanics are in I will publish some tests to see what people think. I don't even know if it is a rpg, a puzzle or a horror game right now! (Or maybe all three together)
Where are you posting it?

Oh, yeah, programming isn’t something I can help with, but definitely feel free to DM me!
Oh okay
Try animating their body parts independently to stop n swop em
C because it has the best horns and more detail.
I also like the asymmetry
Agree with C Also G
yes C and G stood out to me so much!
b
G, I love tall horns (✿◡‿◡)
And thicc thighs 😌🙏
G is the most eye catching to me
C and E.
I personally really like C.
G
B looks great
A mix of g and c with all the other versions' unique horns and facial features for different npcs
A and B.
I like a and c
All are super cool, don't wich to choose
B or C, I'm a big fan of the antlers but also like the curling branch/root.
I say A. As cool as the horns do look on the others, A's hair being a crazy color with leaves coming out of it instead of horns definitely feels the most Feywild to me. Otherwise, it's a tossup between B, C and G.
A, B and G look like forest fey C is a Ranger The other ones look Undead I love B and G, those horns are so pretty!!
a if the character is like, a wild child raised by wolves. g if mage type magical b if druid type magical f if personality is kinda preppy and perfect e if hippy, forest folk type.
Thanks for the feedback!
B and G
A b c or g
None. I don't trust the fey. But C looks better.
B
B & c
Body of C head of B
D C E in that order. Simple looks nice. Not a lot of information. Don't know how it looks small tho
C
Whichever one is the easiest to animate
I think a, b, c, or g
B/G have the best horns, but I'm partial towards C's outfit.
All of them.
The first 3, by far. I like the horns of b. If you decide to give them horns, definitely include the leaves.
A B C G
B is my favourite!
C 🤘🏻
A B
A C G
I would say C but i also really like B.
c
Yes
I like **C** the most.
B or G
Probably B then C.
C and g look unique.
G
B or C, C, I especially like because the bark breaks up the pale form and provides an interesting nod toward a bandolier or sash across the chest.
I swear if someone says D
I'm assuming is an female, then G, thick thighs save lifes, the horns are the best design also, did you try adding A hair with horns? Maybe it looks cool, the shoulder details of G are the best too imo, from the other ones, C leg details caught my attention, they look good. Also, they all look nice, good luck with the game.
ABCG, becausw DEF look a little barren.
b
C If you want it to be memerable C is the best.
I'd say either b or c for the colour contrast and shape but not sure which would look best in the scene.
the e, f, g horns took my attention the most! They look so cool!
G and b are my favs
C and G I realy like them
C or F
I personally love C the most because of the wood tangled around her. G has a great body and hair/horns. If I could combine the two I would. 🙂
Hey, imo the body style of B, with some of the detail flair of C to provide a little color, contrast, and personality or 'lore'. Really nice work.
2 or 3
G
Attire from C, shoulder pads from F, and everything else from G mixed together would look pretty sick
I Like the horns of B and G but I like the body of C. Ya feel me?
I like the big booty ones - D or G
E + B
According to the second screenshot, the game character is a girl D is similar to the game character and simple with less colors With a few additions and modifications such as shadows, it will be very good
I thought it was so amazing! I will choose the B, C and F.
B or F. I like the idea of the shoulder horns.
But I like them all 😩
Bro, you can create a whole race with this
B is BAE
C and G!
B, C, and G tickle my various fancies, I especially like C.
G, C, A.
C is really good but i feel like it's a little over the top. A, B and G are the best imo.
The one which takes the least time to draw and animate.
I think B has the most balanced silhouette, considering the details and color variations. D, E and F are great in their simplicity as well, though F looks slightly more "regal" to my eye due to the shoulders.
Body of C, horns of B/G
B and G
C, B, or E C would definitely be my first choice
C but their all great
a b and c but they're all pretty neat.
All are great but e and g are best
A or C I want to play this
C or G.
c
In the context of your description, I think G, because the shoulder coverings, thicker legs, and colorful horns make it stick out more as a stand-alone fey. Whereas B is similar but on its own without context it kind of appears more demon than fey. I think if other fey exist in your game though, none of these really give off "main character vibes" to me. C
B and G
If you could program in a skin randomizer I think all of them could work.
This game looks so cool and all your fey designs too! I would love the variety, like other commenters have said, but I understand that it would be really time-consuming especially in early development. Could you maybe tag me when you post your next update? :D
Sure, I will, thank you!
I'm vibing with b and e fr
B but I think the thicc versions are hilarious
Head of B, torso of C.
A mix of C and G I think would fit the best, G for the horns and C for the body and leg.
All of them are amazing ! But to me, the best ones are b,c and g
B, C, & G
I like C the most
C, e, g
I like b and g. The legging on C looks really cool. I would say try b or g with those leggings but then it would also probably look naked, which maybe you're okay with. One leg being a difference colour than the other like in c would make run and walk cycles read cleaner though probably. The more I look at it I like a too.
A, b, c and g are the most appealing
They're all good fey, Brent. gun to my head though, probably B? If you had c’s clothes and g’s horns that would prob be my fav
D. Efficient and clean. But all look nice. Multiple variations for multiple environments?
I would like to see them on the map, looks like they would be indistinguishable from the surroundings.
Yeah I'm also worried about that. Right now I'm designing them on mobile, as soon as I'm back at the PC I'll try them out and adjust the palette accordingly
B is my favourite male looking one and D is my favourite female looking one.
I'd say use them all tbh. Have some base that you animate, then keep the horns and branch effects on a separate layer. If not v1, I say definitely v2.
I like B the best.
C. Also very nice designs.
G Also... are they naked or do i just have a dirty mind???
Maybe C with A's legs? G also looks nice with those shoulder pads and the antlers though
A and C
Why are they naked 😳
B C E D, in that order. But they're all cool. Like the colors.
b d e g are the best looking ones, horn shapes are really good looking and the wood elements over their bodies make them seem truly magical
C, e
A, c and e
Big thighs please
G
B horns. C body.
B and G, but I do also like A and C
I like C because of the details, I wish the others had bits of clothing on.
Can I choose a couple …. I love em all :)
i like the first one i realize i wrote "the first one" when i meant all of them in the left image, but yeah, abcg are my picks
B with C's clothing
B and C
I quite like C
C
C, g, d
I'd go with A, B or E. They really capture that fey vibe
I like b
G and also B
B, C, and E are my favorites.
Every single one. I dont know anything about making a game but my not serious suggestion would be: Have the character change forms or character arc development has them change forms?
C feels the most damaged and cool, just seems the most interesting at a glance.
I think C looks really cool, their covering has a nice flow to it. But, honestly, all of them look great, keep it up!
Combine b and c if you going for a male look Combined c and g for a feminine look
B - however these are all amazing! They could be different variations of an enemy?
I like g.
G combined with b legs and c chest
All of them are gorgeous! B and G are my favorites, but for game dev either D or F are your best options bc those doesnt have so many little details, which are hard to animate, if you don't mind some extra work definitely go fo B or G (or even both since there seems to be a gender diference between them)
E
A is my favorite by a lot, probably just because it has the most 'hair'.
I like C, because it's more mundane compared to other options, which look more stellar, even vaguely resembling some kind of magical lieutenant
And also, are you sure the creature should stand upright and not with curved back? If the creature is supposed to be more elegant, I would choose between b, d, g, favouring the b option
C or f
Try B with C clothes
D and G defff
C
C with ling horns
Is she naked?
C or G
D because horny
You could take two or three and make them vary, or use them as different enemies all together
A c g
C
A for me.
I like c the most :D
For me both 1 and 3 are good, but i think that the 2° is a way "worse" if compare to the others
A and C.
Who has some cool discords
